A Note Regarding The General Assembly Proposal Titled "Nationalization Of Land And Buildings"

Whilst I typically do not comment on proposals that quite obviously have zero chance of making quorum, let alone of being passed, this one is a special exception. It arrived on my desk with a note added by my aide-de-camp that simply read "To Brighten Your Day." Of course this intrigued me, and I cleared my afternoon schedule to read the proposal. After doing so, I must commend the honorable delegate from Old Hope on submitting one of the most amusing proposals I have seen in some time. That this was ever even conceived of as a serious proposal just proves that the venerable institution of comedy is alive and well in the halls of the World Assembly.

To wit, it should come as little surprise that the UCR will be voting an emphatic and enthusiastic NO on this proposal should it, by some twist of fate, make quorum and move on to a general vote.

With that being said, I would strongly encourage the honorable delegate from Old Hope to keep trying to get this (and any other proposals they have stashed away) passed, as they are clearly attempting to master a style of comedy that I can only refer to as "Legislative Parody." I speak for myself and my entire staff when I say that, with how dull it can get around the office, the opportunity for amusement would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind. It wasn't false then, but someone else submitted that, not me. It was probably marked illegal for plagiarism. The first draft was never legally submitted.

This is an eminent domain issue as I see it. Land held in trust by the State for the People can be nationalized. I don't see this as an issue. The Ager Publicus of Rome was public land that eventually came to be dominated by Patrician absentee landlords and every so often reformers would come along and try to correct this oversight (assassination was the preferred method of getting rid of them, as in the case of the Gracchi; Gaius Marius seems to have solved the issue by resorting to bribery to get land for his armies after the Jugurthine and Cimbric Wars). Privately-owned lands can't be seized without proper financial compensation (with the land owners hopefully consenting to prevent strife).

I apologize to my tardiness for getting to this Proposal. I was apparently elected in absentia to represent my Region as WA Delegate (a fact I find out today after a long absence- IRL stuff).
