[Abandoned] Repeal End Conversion Therapy

Recognizing that General Assembly Resolution 437 still protects minors against conversion therapy
Recognizing that conversion therapy has a very poor success rate,
Aware that conversion therapy can be bad for a person's mental health, especially when the person has unreasonable expectations, or is being coerced,
Recognizing that some sexual orientations are always harmful,
Alarmed that General Assembly Resolution 559 bans conversion therapy even for clearly and obviously harmful sexual orientations that can never result in lawful sexual activity,
Ashamed at preventing individuals with these harmful sexual orientations from seeking conversion therapy,
the World Assembly repeals General Assembly Resolution 559, End Conversion Therapy.

Still can't pass resolutions, perceive the political winds, or format proposals. When did that ever stop anyone? Oh wait. Perhaps that 100pc proposal failure rate is endogenously constructed.

(OOC: This is incredibly homophobic. You should not submit this legislation on the basis of this not having a chance of passing, and more importantly on the repeal being needlessly prejudiced and offensive.)

Some of us have been around long enough in this Assembly to see through these very thinly veiled dog whistles. I had thought the Ambassador better than that.

The resolution-at-vote has flaws, but invoking language reminiscent of bigoted tropes is beneath this body.

Ambassador Tav: The Old Hope delegation endorsing conversion therapy? Now this is something new from the delegation that once endorsed corporal punishment.
In solidarity with Ukraine, I will be censoring the letters Z and V from my signature. This is -ery much so a big change, but it should be a -ery positi-e one. -olodymyr -elensky and A-o- continue to fight for Ukraine while the Russians are still trying to e-entually make their way to Kharki-, -apori-h-hia, and Kry-yi Rih, but that will take time as they are concentrated in areas like Bakhmut, -uledar, and other areas in Donetsk. The same problematic language exists in this draft.

I'd be curious to know which sexual orientations exactly that the Ambassador regards as always harmful. I have the feeling the Ambassador doesn't understand the difference between sexual orientation and sexual fetishisation.

Every attempt to equate or even hint that pedophilia is tied to sexual orientation or the LGBTQ+ community is made in bad faith. There's only one reason to even suggest a connection between the two: malicious defamation of the LGBTQ+ community and the definition of sexual orientation.

Sexual orientation is defined as "a person's identity in relation to the gender or genders to which they are sexually attracted" by Oxford. Someone's age is not an aspect of their gender identity. Therefore, being a child is not a gender, and thus, pedophilia is not a sexual orientation. QED. Case closed.
