Question about a resolution

Postby Zakure » Tue Jun 01, 2021 7:19 am

Hello,

I have recently become active again, and have joined the WA. Right now I´m planning on writing a resolution. But since I´m not that experienced I do have a couple of questions.
1. When writing a draft and posting it in the General Assembly, what is the process of it becoming a resolution ready for a vote?
2. Is there any formal requirements on how a resolution should/must be written? If there are, could you please link them?
3. Is there an archive where one can find resolutions? If so, could you also please link them?
4. Is there a difference between the NationStates International law and the resolutions of the WA? Also can the WA pass legislation which is a law?
5. Is it allowed to place laws which, say, make one system of measurment law?

It´s a lot, I know.

I sincerely thank everyone for answering.

Yours sincerely,
the Prime Minister of the Confederacy of Zakure

OOC: Rules for proposals: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=159348
Proposal archive: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=30
Regarding the last question, not until you repeal GAR 88

If the ambassador acts like an ambassador, it's probably Delegate Arthur.
If he acts like an edgy teen, it's probably definitely Delegate Jim.... it's always Jim

1. If you want to actually pass a resolution, the first thing you do is post a draft of it to this forum. We will critique it and all that until it's ready. You will know when it's ready. Let people know a few days in advance if you think it's ready, and they can tell you "no it's not ready" if it's not ready. Drafting can take a long time, and almost always at least two weeks. Once people think it's ready, and you think it's ready, you can submit it. Once it's submitted GenSec decides whether or not it follows the proposal rules. At the same time, send a campaign to the delegates (using the campaign tag) asking them to approve your proposal. If 6% of the delegates approve it, it will go to vote. Then, you just need 50% of the votes for.
2. There are conventions, though they are not required. The only requirements of a proposal is that they follow the proposal rules, linked above.
3. This is a more up to date archive that always updates immediately- https://www.nationstates.net/page=WA_pa ... /council=1
4. First thing- you can roleplay international law with other nations. Second thing- Yes, that's the entire point of the General Assembly. All members must follow the resolutions passed by the GA.
5. There is already a resolution covering this, I can't recall the name or number. As long as it does not duplicate or contradict that resolution, then yes it would be legal.
