[Scrapped] Repeal “Restrictions on Child Labor”

Postby Tetik » Sun Feb 21, 2021 3:32 pm

The General Assembly,
Acknowledging that child labor must be restricted.
Worried that clause (A) could allow child labor by reducing the legal age of majority.
Hereby repeals General Assembly Resolution # 4 "Restrictions on Child Labor".

How will this prevent member states from "reducing the legal age of majority" as they are entitled to under GA#299 "Legal Competence?"

This is one of those classic RNT cases: is it feasible for member nations to do this when doing so would allow children to vote?

OOC: Yes, if the nation's leaders do the calculations and find that the economic benefit (at least to the nation's leaders) of allowing 8-years-olds to work in the salt mines outweighs the risks of the youth vote to those leaders' hold on power. Nevertheless, I agree with you that that would likely never happen, certainly not in a nation which chooses to remain a member of the WA.
