The highly illegal ( :P ) election for a Secretary-General was just an April Fool's joke. The role doesn't have any powers attached to it.

Existing resolution on Religious Tolerance

Postby The Holy Cee » Mon Mar 12, 2018 5:59 am

Hi there,

I do not know if this is the place to ask but is there an existing resolution that covers the topic of religious tolerance?

I did my fair share of digging the forums but I can't seem to find any existing resolution. I did; however, find a historical one covering the topic. I wish to make a new one and to better the old, historical resolution.

Of course I will draft the initial proposal following the GA Proposal Compendium: Rules & General Advice.

I don't think there's one specifically targeting religions (mostly because religion is one of the hot topics where it's hard to get people to agree on anything), but there is the GA #35, The Charter of Civil Rights which specifically bans discrimination based on many things, including "religion or belief system".

I wish to make a new one and to better the old, historical resolution.

You can always write one up and post the draft here, and see if you get any support - at the very least you'll get advice on whether it's legal (according to proposal rules) or if something needs to be changed to make it so. :)

EDIT: Do take note that you can't copy bits off the "historical" resolution without the permission of whoever authored it. And only changing a few words does count as plagiarism as well. Plagiarism being one of the things that can get your nation kicked out of the WA for one year.

Can you post essays/discussions of the GA in the GA forum, or is it reserved for discussions on proposals?

Discussions you can (be sure to mark then "DISCUSSION" in the thread title, and be aware that they're OOC threads), but I wouldn't necessarily post essays, they'd probably be better as Dispatches on your gameside account. (I mean, technically you can post essays, but why the hell would you want to?)

Essays are fine if they are so marked. There were a lot of them back in the day. You might try submitting them to the WA Law Review.

I'll take the somewhat controversial position (though that this is controversial is very much novel, for essays have long been a central part of the WA forum, which only in recent years seems to have been suppressed,) that you should be submitting essays to the WA forum. Debating how we see the role and the place of the Assembly is central to debating how we are to "improve the world, one resolution at a time".

Hello!

Brand new nation here, I got bounced over on the advice of someone to this part of the forum.

Any advice for things to do if you're new? I've messed around with all sorts of stuff on my nation's page, joined the WA, gotten slightly involved on the forum, gotten slightly involved in my regional forum, made some interesting choices on issues that have popped up, tweaked the flag a few times...

What else is worth spending time on for someone new to the game? I'm not looking to get intricately involved in things to the point of being a representative or something like that, but I'd like to help be a defender if I can, do a bit of politics, trading, etc. Is any of that sort of thing on here? I have no idea.

Thanks guys!

You're perhaps in slightly the wrong forum for that. This isn't "General Advice" forum, after all. ;)

I'm not looking to get intricately involved in things to the point of being a representative or something like that

In that case you're certainly on the wrong subforum, because General Assembly is for drafting and debating proposals for GA resolutions. It is mainly an in character (IC) forum, and you would be "speaking" as a character, usually an ambassador, who represents your nation in this international place. If you're happy with not jumping straight away into proposal writing (which is a mistake many newbies make), but will instead hang around, make a character, partake the debates (and ask a lot of questions), you'll eventually get the hang of it. But I'd say it fits the definition of "intricately involved" pretty well.

but I'd like to help be a defender if I can

For that you want our sister forum over there and not GA.

do a bit of politics

If you mean talking about real life politics, you'll want General forum instead of General Assembly. If you mean RP politics, have a look around the peaceful and the conflict roleplaying forums, and if factbooks and such are your thing, this is the forum for you.

trading

There's a whole subforum for that.

-The Dear Leader, Principality of Eastern Northerly Islands

This thread, funnily enough, is an OOC (out of character) one. :P

WA & SC

Postby The Union of South Island States » Sun Mar 18, 2018 4:33 pm

Hey, just a noob here with a question on World Assembly & Secret Council. I saw a post on this issue, which I cannot find, but it was about joining the 2 main voting entities. I had joined SC on my 1st account, which I still have connected to the account I play on now, but I want to join WA with this account, and it said something about joining WA and SC on 2 different countries could get you banned. If I could get any incite on what to do, please let me know.

The Security Council is part of the World Assembly. The World Assembly is currently subdivided between the General Assembly and the Security Council. Members of the World Assembly can vote in both the GA and the SC. You can only have one nation in the WA at a time, so you'll have to choose one of your accounts rather than both. I'm not sure who was misinforming you that the WA and the SC are separate entities, but that is most certainly not the case.
