[Idea] Repeal of WA resolution #286

Postby Hatzisland » Sun Feb 10, 2019 2:19 pm

The nation of Hatzisland is here to see if there is any interest in a plan that would repeal WA resolution #286, and is hoping to pass a new plan that would allow abortion restrictions unless it is a life-treating situation or if the baby was created without consent. This post is to see if there is any interest in passing this as a resolution. Would you support a plan that would allow such restrictions? If not, should there be more exclusions? We hope to make this plan a draft in the near future, but we would like to receive recommendations first.

“I am opposed on principle.”

(OOC: The above is what the reaction of a lot of players will be, as the WA as a whole is generally pro-choice. More importantly, is the fact that On Abortion and Reproductive Freedoms exist, and pretty much enforce legalisation of abortion in almost all circumstances. I’m having trouble seeing how a possible restriction of a third-trimester abortion wouldn’t contradict one of those.)

A representative democracy with a parliament of 535 seats

NS stats and policies are not canon, use the factbooks
Not in the WA despite coincidentally following nearly all resolutions
This is due to a problem with how the WA contradicts democracy
However we do have a WA mission and often participate in drafting

This is not what the third trimester is; the third trimester includes the seventh to ninth/tenth months or ca. 25th to 40th weeks of pregnancy.

Falcanians hatch from eggs after around four months of incubation. Will this legislation be clear that it only applies to mammals?

Lawyers for our nation have upheld the legality of the law, so the major issue would be support. Would you support a plan that would apply such restrictions? If not, where should the bar be set? We hope to make this plan a draft in the near future, but we would like to receive recommendations first.

OOC: Currently there exists a resolution that won't let you set such a restriction. Your proposal would thus be illegal for contradiction, no matter how you worded it.

What Resolution

Postby Hatzisland » Sun Feb 10, 2019 4:15 pm

What resolution? Our lawyers have found both abortion resolutions still in effect, both of which our proposition did not contradict. Am we missing something?

The proposition will only apply to humans at this point, but an expansion to mammals could be added at the request of nations like your's.

Again, as SP said, look at GAR#286. This proposal idea directly contradicts existing abortion law.

Yep.

Hatziland, GAR#286 makes it legal for a woman to obtain an abortion at any time for any reason. Any such restriction would violate that law. This is illegal until you repeal GAR#286, which isn't likely.

What's the problem with lawyer jokes?
Lawyer's don't think they're funny, and no one else thinks they're jokes.

OOC: GAR#286 has stood against repeated repeal attempts, often from top authors. I have little expectation of it's successful repeal now. Even if it was, I would be extremely opposed.

OOC:
Did you change the OP completely and the topic to go with it?

Also, this is a place for drafting proposals, not to check whether there is interest in doing so. Reserving a topic is not permitted.

OOC: Yes they did. Their whole original OP can be found as quoted by others in the thread.

To author, for the repeal: No support, ever.
