Correct me if I’m wrong but hasn’t GenSec made a legality ruling or two against IA? That would be a solid argument against any conflict of interest allegations. I can think of one, specifically, but I am pretty sure it predates WALL (something about kittens).

IA has been on both sides of several challenges. That should be proof that GenSec bears no animus for or against him.

I feel like it’s worth pointing out that, as others have said, WALL isn’t a secret cabal. It’s an agreement between various regions that exists out in the open.

Further? There is no rule that says a WALL region must vote along with the rest of WALL. TNP, for example, always holds a vote on its off-site forum. And the Delegate of TNP casts a vote in-line with the majority vote there. Sometimes the Delegate will even change their vote if the majority in the thread shifts. Come on over to TNP’s forum if you want to see how it works.
It should go without saying that the Delegate of TNP will vote for the majority opinion, regardless of if it aligns with WALL’s overall direction or not.
And other regions in WALL have their own mechanics for deciding Delegate votes, all of which operate independently of WALL’s consensus.

So again, the idea that WALL is a secret cabal is incorrect on two counts.
First, it’s not secret. It’s an organization that exists openly for regions to pool their efforts in writing and drafting WA Resplutions.
Secondly, it’s not a cabal as there is no part of WALL that compels Delegates of member regions to vote one way or another. If it were a cabal? It would be one of the worst ever.

In short? WALL is something that the CoCD and those of their ilk try to build up as a scary conspiracy to further there own ends. When in reality it’s just a forum for Resolution authors of member regions to pool their resources.

And now there's a 'Repeal Commend IA' proposal up for vote in the SC. We haven't a real opinion, the only times we actually *vote* in the SC is in support of people from our region, but with this coming straight after this telegram and all that unsavoury business, we're a hard hard hard hard AGAINST. A. Theres no obligation to be fair in the rules.
B. Even if there was, what WALL does isnt unfair
C. Even if it was unfair, the game is a political parody. that's the point: to demonstrate the uneven dynamics of politics.

Well from my standpoint, I think that organizations like WALL are great for newcomers to the WA as opportunities to rise or even inspiration to open groups. I'm saying this from past lessons I've learned about creating coalitions in stuff similar to WA, but maybe I'm wrong and it doesn't work like that here.

My understanding of the World Assembly is that it is a roleplaying forum for an international organization like the EU or UN, nominally composed of "ambassadors" or "diplomats" representing the many and varied NationStates, working to construct a framework of laws and committees around the general chaos of the NS universe, as well as settle disputes among member states.

The complaints I have been reading about how the WA functions, practically, are precisely the standard and accepted manner in which intergovernmental bodies function in the real world.

In other words, these are features, not bugs.

I can't help but notice that some of the nations complaining the loudest are younger than even my brief tenure on this website observing the goings-on in the WA -- and I wouldn't presume to have a full grasp on the protocols and practices.

A novice ambassador would not walk into the assembly hall of the UN and start upturning tables and tossing about accusations of corruption if his initial attempts are thwarted by the practices of more seasoned members. Bodies like this are all about experience and networking, getting to know the etiquette and "grammar," and how to get things done. Coalition-building is the norm. This only adds to the realism of the roleplay going on here.

"Elitism" is often just a skewed way of looking at expertise.

I honestly didn't think this would be hard to understand (Seriously if you don't want to politic, why are you playing the politicking part of the game). Many real world nations essentially have this coalition practice codified, forming into parties, which then (in multi-party states) go on to have coalitions of their own (Not to mention internal struggles form internal coalitions which but heads for control of the party as a whole). WALL, from all their accounts, and any actual proof that can be brought up, aren't even a coalition in this sense anyway though. If they were, then they are not too great at it. If you think they do swing votes, form your own coalition! It really isn't that big of a deal apparently, unfortunately because you became a course grain of salt in the boots of many WA members you may have turned this into a rather uphill battle for yourself.

I started around mid-year (actually slightly later than that) last year. I still would not say I am seasoned enough to attempt to criticize the pre-existing culture of the WA.
