Death Penalty

Postby Confoederatio Concordia » Tue Nov 13, 2018 6:12 am

Greetings World Assembly members.

I am new to this so first and foremost I would like to apologise in advance if the format does not satisfy the status quo.

However I would like to start a conversation regarding member nations who reintroduce the death penalty. As I believe the purpose of this council is to advance human rights, I believe we should have a conversation regarding the death penalty.

It is the goal of Confoederatio Concordia to bring forward a resolution to the general assembly that will require all World Assembly member nations to abolish the death penalty upon membership of the World Assembly. Also any current World Assembly member states that do have the death penalty must abolish it if the resolution is passed, or be evicted from the world assembly.

Are there other member states that hold a similar opinion? Is this too a radical opinion to put forward as a resolution to be voted on?

OOC: It's been tried and failed. We currently have very terrible legislation that permits (both pro and con on the issue want it repealed) and that must be repealed before anything remotely do-able with restrictions on death penalty.

Ooc: current legislation makes it literally impossible to carry it out. The only Anti people who want PEoI repealed are those who dont understand it.

This is good news because it means that we can legislate better on the matter.

(OOC: Adding to what others have said, you need a proposal to pass an idea to the GA, and this doesn’t look like a proposal. Threads that are purely about interest in a given idea should lead to some sort of productive draft relatively quickly, so that others can comment more specifically on what you are trying to achieve. It is normally a good idea to have a read through the the rules and some passed resolutions beforehand though.)
Hello! I’m a GAer and NS Roleplayer from the United Kingdom.
My pronouns are he/him.
Any posts that I make as GenSec will be clearly marked as such and OOC. Conversely, my IC ambassador in the General Assembly is Ambassador Fortier. I’m always happy to discuss ideas about proposals, particularly if grammar or wording are in issue. I am also Executive Deputy Minister for the WA Ministry of TNP.
Kenmoria is an illiberal yet democratic nation pursuing the goals of communism in a semi-effective fashion. It has a very broad diplomatic presence despite being economically developing, mainly to seek help in recovering from the effect of a recent civil war. Read the factbook here for more information; perhaps, I will eventually finish it.

Game mechanics would make your proposed idea illegal, as it would involve removing nations from the WA. Besides, ever heard of magical gnomes before? see also:

[OOC: Your second poll option would violate the Optionality rule. Resolutions apply to all nations or none.]
Jebslund is a nation of kerbals ruled by Emperor Jebediah Kerman. We reject tyranny, believing that rights should be protected, though we also believe said rights end where the rights of others begin.
Shockingly, we *do* use NS stats, with the exception of lifespan.

Plural Sapient: Jebslunden
Singular/Plural nonsapient: Kermanic

Well thank you all for the feedback.
As you can see I only joined this game two days ago, so I have much to learn. So I will take away from this as a learning opportunity.

I support abolishing it but the ban on capital punishment by a GA experienced failed at vote from its controversy.
