WA membership: resolutions impact on daily issues

Postby Avalaun » Fri May 08, 2009 11:54 pm

For those, like me, who are relatively new to the game, could someone clear up a couple of murky points. If one of my nations were to join the World Assembly, I understand that any resolutions the Assembly passes while my nation is a member affect the civic/economic/political ratings just like the questions do, but I don’t know how previously passed but still in-effect resolutions would affect that nation.

Secondly, how, if at all, do the resolutions of the WA effect the issues we receive from the game? For example, if the WA bans war or slavery or something, and my WA nation gets an issue that involves war or slavery, are my options to choose the non-WA permitted path greyed out or something (ie choices in defiance of the WA resolution are no longer open to me)? Or, if I can still choose in defiance of a WA resolution, am I punished in some way?

First, although I can't remember where I may have read this, I don't believe the previously passed legislation in the WA affects your nation's stats. It might affect you if you participated in nation Role Play, but I'm not sure how people usually deal with that here.

Second, the WA legislation does not, so far as I am aware, affect your Issues. It certainly does not "grey out" any of the options for answering, or change your nation description to say something like "WA violation in progress!" if you pick an option the WA legislation has made illegal. It may have some effect on what Issues you actually receive, but that's just a guess on my part.

Past resolutions don't effect your nation. Some nations see fit to join the WA for good ones, then leave for bad ones. That's the only proof I have, but it makes sense, right?

If the past resolution didn't affect my nation, it will be another reason I may join WA soon.

Anyway, will the moderator answer this thread ?
By faith, we shall do the miracle.

I'm not a Mod, but I've been around for a while and seen such questions raised before_

Resolutions only affect your nation's stats if your nation is actually in the WA when they get passed... but while a nation is a member of the WA it is legally bound by the terms of all of the resolutions that have been passed (and not yet repealed) whether or not it was here for their passage.

Issues and the WA are completely separate in terms of game-mechanics, and being in the WA doesn't affect which issues you can get... because the Admins have better things to do with their time than go through the complete list of Issues, every time a new Resolution gets passed, to see which ones need re-coding.
Having said which, if your nation is a WA member then you "shouldn't" answer its Issues in ways that contradict any existing Resolutions... unless you can find a legal loophole to justify this.

No, you can answer your daily issues any way you want, and no one will care.

It's only in roleplay that you are expected to remain in line. Exploiting loopholes is perfectly acceptable, but otherwise, your nation is expected to comply with the letter of the law in all statutes, past and present. Open defiance is generally frowned upon.

Just hang around long enough and some bright spark will talk the WA into passing a resolution that cancels out the effects of one previous. It all seems to balance out in the end. All depends if you have a democratic short term government point of view or are in for the long term due to even worse behaviour.
