Bull. Lambos aren't even advertised to the general public (barring magazines specifically discussing cars, and, even then, most of the advertisements are in the form of articles on them, rather than ads to buy them.).

I'm also going to point out that there is a huge difference in the performance of a Lambo and the performance of a 2k beater, or even a brand new mom car. The Lambo costs more because it is much higher quality. They didn't just paint a regular sedan pink and say, "Well, that justifies a higher price!".

Side note, as a very angry person once said, “Aesthetics matter!” There is a reason we pay out of the nose to get products that are not the norm; those products of different color stand out. A pink sedan is not the norm, and as such, its price would increase beyond just the cost of pink paint. There’s a very real, cultural benefit to having anything that is even slightly different. And that’s both why it’s desirable to have one and more expensive, it is, subtly, but still tangibly, more valuable.

Collector's items, perhaps, but not everyday things, and especially not *expensive* everyday things. And, no, a pink sedan would not cost more for being a different color. There are already pink cars. If it were an item that would have limited demand, that would be one thing (in which case, it costs more because it costs more because it costs more per unit to make small batches (as opposed to making in bulk), not because it is different.). Items bought solely for aesthetics and manufactured in limited quantity cost more because they are collectors' items. Making a toothbrush that is pink or offering pink as a color does not benefit from this when your company produces them in the same quantity as the other colors, because, while different, they are not limited quantity (compared to the others).

I know its a bit late to add, but instead of appealing to a specific demographic couldn't this ban simply apply to any and all gender-based taxes intent on exploiting the cultural norm. This would protect and support the sanctity of fair pricing over everyday health and hygiene products.

In hindsight this was poorly worded, my apologies. By "cultural norms", I was referring to how some businesses exploit preferences in culture for higher profit (like how men and women usually prefer different items). My original proposal was to ban unreasonable taxes on products related to everyday health and hygiene, whereas the original post was to only ban "Pink" items. Everyone should have the right to basic sanitary products no matter who they are, without suspicious taxes to skew the true value of said items. While it is debatable as to whether or not a "Pink Tax" really exists, it depends entirely on the nation in question.

"Pink Tax" isn't a literal tax, it's a figurative expression describing companies charging more for items because they're "for women" when all they did was make a line of items that were pink (or some other "girl" color), with no other changes, in the same quantity that they make the regular items, and then act as if that one change justified a significantly higher price without a significant increase in cost per unit.
