Shocked over the large amount of illegal fishing taking part in international waters

Concerned about the growing numbers of extinct crabs due to human activity

Hereby,

DEFINES the following for the purpose of the resolution:
>Illegal fishing takes place when vessels or harvesters operate in violation of the laws of a fishery. This can apply to fisheries that are under the jurisdiction of a coastal state or to high seas fisheries regulated by regional fisheries management organizations

Limits fishing of crabs only above 8 pounds and crabs that are under 8 inches.

Urges governments to pass more laws, preventing illegal crab fishing

Umm...no you didn't. Of course criminals will go to trial, we have a resolution for that. If you really want to fight illegal crab fishing, you should put something together that aids in enforcing existing crab fishing regulations.

Perhaps some investigative agency to aid in uncovering the trade of illegal hauls? IDK, I'm not familiar with crab fishing. I like the originality of the topic, but I can't really write the proposal for you. All I can say is that you'll need something more effective than this to get other GA regulars to support it.

The Mission welcomes a resolution to protect the world's crab populations, and would like to propose the following additions:

- A clause that places a limit on the number of mature female crabs that may be harvested per unit of male crabs, e.g. 5 mature female crabs for every bushel of male crabs.

- Full prohibition on the harvest of female crabs from vulnerable populations and/or species.

OOC: Firstly, illegal crab fishing is by definition illegal. That is, the people who do it, are ignoring the laws on it. So passing more laws to make it more illegal (your Urges clause) won't help at all.

Secondly, we have at least one resolution on fishing, another on hunting and more than one on endangered (which includes endagering) animals. Have you read all of them? Because I'm fairly sure that if you're trying to secure the crabs' breeding by size restrictions, that's already covered.

OOC: King crab =/= shrimp. My point was that restricting it simply by weight would ban the fishing of any crustacean species that doesn't grow that big.

OOC: I read it as restricting it to below that limit. Either way, it's a strange regulation.

OOC: Well in that case it would only do any good for species that grow that big. And would encourage crabs to be fished away before they reach maturity.

I think the proposal writer has watched too many episodes of Deadliest Catch.

This seems incredibly "one-size-fits-nothing" for any sort of proposal. You do understand there is more than a single species of crab, and those crab species come in all manner of sizes, and that mandating a single one-size-fits-all standard cannot possibly work. You would need (as in RL), separate standards for each species. And there is not sufficient room in a proposal to do that, and may count as RW references anyhow. (King Crab vs Dungeness vs Blue Crab. All crabs, all edible, all wildly disparate in size. How can a single standard apply to all three, for example?)
