[ABANDONED] Repeal GA#416

Postby Fra Lice » Mon Jul 02, 2018 3:34 pm

General Assembly Resolution #416 “Ban on Ritual Sacrifice” (Category: Human Rights; Strength: Mild) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

ADDRESSING that the World Assembly has legalized the Freedom of Religion;

RECOGNIZING that this resolution does, in fact, contain admirable concern for the sanctity of sapient life;

AFFIRMING that animals and other sentient beings are killed and slaughtered legally for purposes other than religion;

SHOCKED that freedom of religion can coincide with this act;

SHOCKED that slaughterhouses may sacrifice animals but a religion, with this resolution in effect, cannot;

SHOCKED that this resolution recognizes the religions who sacrifice animals but yet infringes on their rights;

[OOC: Remove it from queue and wait for people to comment before submitting. And expect the process to take weeks, if not months. ESPECIALLY given how new you are to writing proposals. Also, this counts as NATSOV-only. Religious freedom, National Sovereignty, and Cultural sovereignty cannot be the sole basis of a repeal.]
Jebslund is a nation of kerbals ruled by Emperor Jebediah Kerman. We reject tyranny, believing that rights should be protected, though we also believe said rights end where the rights of others begin.
Shockingly, we *do* use NS stats, with the exception of lifespan.
Singular sapient: Jebslunder
Plural Sapient: Jebslunden
Singular/Plural nonsapient: Kermanic
Note: When a verb can logically only be done by the sapient using/piloting/holding the object in question, then the appropriate demonym for the number of sapients is used.

Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism are ECONOMIC SYSTEMS. Stop conflating them with political systems.

OOC: Illegal for Honest Mistake.

OOC: Not really. They use other reasoning too. It however completely misunderstands the resolutions it refers to.

Here's the rules for writing proposals, and some advice about how proposals work. Here's the passed resolutions thread. Please read these as much as possible, especially the first. Better yet, post a draft instead of submitting things to the queue and waiting for them to be marked illegal. That way people here can offer advice, should they wish to, about your proposals.

Now, as to the content of this repeal:
The targeted resolution does not ban the ritual sacrifice of animals. It bans the ritual sacrifice of sapient beings, e.g. humans. That makes this proposal illegal for an honest mistake violation, since its arguments against the target are not true.
While she had no regrets about throwing the lever to douse her husband's mistress in molten gold, Blanche did feel a pang of conscience for the innocent bystanders whose proximity had caused them to suffer gilt by association.

It actually does, in fact, ban animal sacrifice.

"3. Urges member nations to ban the ritual sacrifice of animals and other sentient beings."

This repeal is not illegal under any means, but I have taken it down from submission for now.

"3. Urges

"Urges" is an example of a non-binding clause - it is a strong recommendation, not a mandate. Besides, it would be advisable to change the designation of your three abandoned draft threads from [DRAFT] to [ABANDONED].

I urge you to read that clause again.

And they call me hostile to GenSec. I was unaware 4 of our 6 GenSec officers knew nothing about the rules.
