General Assembly Proposal
ID: conaim_1515341638

Repeal: “Voting Equality For Freed Inmates”
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal
Resolution: GA#419
Proposed by: Conaim

General Assembly Resolution #419 “Voting Equality for Freed Inmates” (Category: Furtherment of Democracy; Strength: Mild) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

The General Assembally;

Noting that this movement gives equality too all freed convicts and does not take into account the crime committed by each, and on top of that denies a nation a critical part of its sovereignty.

Beleiving That if a nation democratically decides that the political opinions of those who broke the law should not be considered legitimate, then the law abiding people have the right to keep criminal ideas out of the polls.

Concerned That those who would break the law at any point in their life could potentially vote for the decriminalization of seriously harmful things such as heroin, or lower the age of consent, etc.

Asserting That anyone fairly proven guilty does not deserve to influence the way their country operates, but a nation has the right to chose between franchisement and disenfranchisement of these people.

Allows Member nations to bar evidently malevolent individuals from corrupting their government.

Reserves for member nations to decide on the suffrage of criminals and ex-criminals for themselves.

The proposal is illegal, legislating in a repeal. You can't do that because repeals cannot be themselves repealed, and therefore, such legislation stricken from the record.

GA 419 isn't a repeal, and if it is I didn't know

It isn’t a repeal, but your entire argument is based on sovereignty. Bring something else to the table.

I also argued that criminals were more likely to have harmful opinions such as a desire to lower the age of consent or legalize heroin

Your proposal is a repeal. It declares Category as repeal. It is the clauses in that repeal proposal that make it illegal.

OOC: Your repeal is a repeal, GA#419 is a normal resolution, making legislation. It is illegal for trying to legislate in a repeal, as you try with your repeal. Next time, do some drafting before you submit. You might even find some reasons for repealing that aren't NatSov (Also illegal) or pretty poor.

OOC: Please draft on the forum before submitting it, and then these mistakes would be spotted. Thanks.
