Repeal "Voting Equality For Freed Inmates"

Postby The First Ever Galactic Empire » Sat Jan 06, 2018 3:31 pm

The General Assembly:
An inmate is someone that commits a crime.
People who commit crimes are enemies.
Enemies are bad people.
And bad people should not vote.

That is why Freed Inmates should not have the right to vote

"No opening verb, which is the norm for proposals these days, and just stating an obvious fact."
People who commit crimes are enemies.

"Once again there is no opening verb and this fails to take into account civil disobedience, unjust laws, and a whole range of other factors."
Enemies are bad people.

"Still no opening verb and this relies on the exceptionally filmy prior clause. It also is false; an enemy of a tyrannical government may not be a bad personal, they could be a civil rights leader."
And bad people should not vote.

"Once again the opening verb is still lacking, and this needs the prior two clauses to work, and they don't."

That is why Freed Inmates should not have the right to vote

"This proposal contains no justifications this delegation considers to be reasonable and does not in any way follow formatting guidelines. It requires some very heavy changes to be even considered."

Kenmoria is an illiberal yet democratic nation pursuing the goals of communism in a semi-effective fashion. It has a very broad diplomatic presence despite being economically developing, mainly to seek help in recovering from the effect of a recent civil war. Read the factbook here for more information; perhaps, I will eventually finish it.

OOC: Theres something horribly Trump-ish in that wording...

OP, you should really consider not submitting this. It simply isn't up to the proper quality and intellectual rigor expected of WA resolutions.

"You see, there are a lot of people, and, of course, I don't mean all the other people, the people that like me, because way more people like me, but there are people who don't like me, and they're sad. Their votes are bad, bad for all of us, and we have to stop it. We just can't let it happen, people, it's illegal. I'll make it stop, we won't have any more bad votes here, believe me."

OOC: No. Just no. Please provide some genuine arguments, otherwise this repeal attempt is pointless.

OOC: How is this relevant to the current repeal that is being discussed?

Jebslund's Head Imperial Ambassador, Sofia Kerman, stands and clears her throat.

"Flawless proposal, friend. I can definitely see this as a proposal which shall guide the writing of all others for years to come. It is a very witty, eloquent law which in no way smacks of a two-year-old being asked to dictate a repeal.", she remarks, the sarcasm in her tone thick enough to obscure any view of her face.
Jebslund is a nation of kerbals ruled by Emperor Jebediah Kerman. We reject tyranny, believing that rights should be protected, though we also believe said rights end where the rights of others begin.
Shockingly, we *do* use NS stats, with the exception of lifespan.
Singular sapient: Jebslunder
Plural Sapient: Jebslunden
Singular/Plural nonsapient: Kermanic
Note: When a verb can logically only be done by the sapient using/piloting/holding the object in question, then the appropriate demonym for the number of sapients is used.

Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism are ECONOMIC SYSTEMS. Stop conflating them with political systems.

"Are you asking my fellow delegates to approve your sorry excuse of a proposal without even taking into consideration what the other ambassadors have brought up? You don't just do that. I've seen all I need to see to make a decision on this."

Okay...so if you want delegates to approve your proposal that means you have already submitted. Some advice for you that will help you go a long way; withdraw your proposal and take the time to edit it with the feedback that has been given or will be given here. As it stands, no support for this proposed repeal seeing as freed inmates in the eyes of the Federation are seen as rehabilitated citizens who have paid their debt to society.
