BELIEVING partial-birth abortions to be immoral,

HEREBY:

1. DEFINES a partial-birth abortion, for the purposes of this resolution, as the intentional killing of a child during the process of childbirth,

Since someone has to ask it, and it might as well be someone that has already honked off a whole boat load of the right-wing of The WA, I have a question :-

What if it becomes apparent during the birth that there were heretofore unforeseen complications that would make the child's life not worth living to the point that it would spend the rest of its life in complete and total agony, screaming every single second of every minute of every hour of every day, but that quite honestly the child would be dead before Day 1 ends anyway? Would it be acceptable to euthanize the child at that point on the basis that doctors are required (or should be required) to put the best interests of the child first, and not pander to some fucked up ideology that says any life is better than death with dignity?

Also - at what point does childbirth end? When the umbilical cord is cut? When the child is fully out of the vagina? When the child turns 18? When the child goes off to serve in the military? When the child has a child of its own? Just curious at what point a doctor might be allowed to do her job if the child is screaming in agony and going to remain that way for the rest of its very short, very agony filled life?
