If some pair of arsehole parents send their child off to conversion therapy to 'cure' him of the 'gay', the child doesn't get to choose whether or not to go or not.

"This is correct, according to the Patient's Rights Act, and I quote, '(VIII) For the purposes of this legislation, 'patient' may also refer to a legal guardian if the patient is under the age of majority, or is an adult unable to understand their rights under this Act.' Under this resolution, parents could still force their children into these 'treatments'."

Recognising that many citizens have been forced to endure conversion therapy with awful results, including the suicides of many LGBTQ+ people,

Realising that, in many instances, conversion therapy is effectively torture due to methods such as electrocution and inducing vomiting,

Defining 'involuntary' as 'carried out without the patient's informed consent and free will',

Asserting the right of all citizens to their own sexual orientation and gender identity which should not be forcibly changed by others,

this resolution hereby bans the practice of conversion therapy on citizens.

"Our understanding is that gay conversion therapy is usually coerced onto people, usually young adults and minors into consenting to the treatment. The treatment itself still causes unparalleled mental and psychological damage regardless of whether or not its consented to or not. Adult homosexual and transgender people wouldn't consent to hurt themselves in this way, at least most wouldn't. Would it be more cogent just to simply ban the practice all together?"

The initial draft of the proposal did ban it altogether. However, the number of replies I got saying 'but what about consensual conversion therapy?' and 'this is NS, not the real world - there may be people who really want conversion therapy!' convinced me to change it to only banning involuntary conversion therapy. If I had it only my way, the proposal would ban it outright.
