"As for you, Jennifer, I must confess that your delegation has a great prowess with theatrics. I've found myself mesmerized by them on more than one occasion."

"Oh? Which ones would those be? I know we have music nights, and sometimes the office does a small production in the lobby. Or are you talking about any particular individuals?"

Jennifer looks past McCooley to where her compatriots have figured out some sort of awkward shuffle to fit the music. It's not impressive, but they seem to be having fun.

"Ah, I was referring to the music nights. Quite splendid displays, I must say. As for particular individuals... I would say you and your dancing partner from earlier. I apologize, for I forgot her name. Started with a T, I believe?"

As he continues conversing with Jennifer, McCooley briefly tilts his head and nods towards Dame Allania, acknowledging her words without replying directly.

Dame Allania looked up as the newcomer came in, and was half-tempted to stand. But seeing one of the band head over, she decides to remain where she is for now. No need to but in on someone.

Instead, she focuses on the duo she's dealing with right now. "I would love to be present at one of these parties. I can make certain that-"

And then her chest starts singing.

Cute little puppy, cute little kitty
The cutest things you ever did see!
A cute little girl in makeup and dress
What an adorable little mess!
Bunnies that go hop hop
Foxes that go bop bop
What a cute thing nature can be!

The knight loudly mutters a few extremely unladylike curses as she digs around in her top, before pulling the cell phone out and quickly taps it before putting it up to her ear. "May the Gods shines upon you, Your Majesty. How may this knight help the crown?" From the neutral tone of her voice, she's said this a thousand times before.

As the person on the other end keeps talking, Dame Allania stands, places her hand over her heart, and gives a quick quarter-bow to the two she was chatting with before wandering off to a quiet corner. The entire time, random strings of "Yes, Your Majesty" and "I understand, Your Majesty" and "As Your Majesty wishes" can be heard from her.

"Ah..." McCooley says, trailing off. He clears his throat, a tad bit tense at hearing the context of Jennifer's relationship with Helen. "I do find it somewhat unusual that you haven't gotten anywhere with that endeavor of yours. Because, well... she is a lovely lady." McCooley reddens in turn at his admission. Shouldn't have had all that rum, should have you have now, Slick? he thinks to himself. Oh, fuck it. We're in this, he resolves to himself. Besides, Jennifer's lovely too.

At around this time, he receives his ginger ale, which he promptly takes a sip of. He's somehow still feeling the buzz and feels emboldened. "What is it about her that turns people away? That vigor you mentioned?"

Jennifer flicks her first finger in a farewell gesture, smiling awkwardly. Burn me, how denigrating to work like that.

Beads of sweat, already formed on her face, crawl slowly down to her jaw. She turns her face away from Slick and takes the opportunity to slowly drink her entire glass of water.

Dame Allania soon ended the call, just as her dark-haired assistant walked in. The assistant stood beside her and looked at the Kawaiian shrine. Dame Allania scratched the side of her nose, after which the man gave the briefest of nods and pivoted on his foot. Then the knight put her phone away as the pair marched out the door, seemingly intent on business elsewhere.

McCooley raises an eyebrow. Dangerous, huh?

He leans in, keeping his face as neutral as can be. "Hey hey, relax. Rumors never hurt anyone. Besides, surely everyone has their skeletons, no?"

He didn't know what exactly was spurring him to continue forth. All he knew was that he for some reason liked where this was going. "Really, Jennifer. I'm not one to judge. Not for your little mix-up, not for those... interesting allegations.

McCooley subtly pulls up the right sleeve of his dress shirt just a tad bit, revealing a miniature tattoo of a sword and a rifle crossed over one another, emblazoned across his inner wrist. He hoped that it wasn't a threatening gesture, though he could see how Jennifer may take it the wrong way.

The past was in the past. He hoped it stayed that way.

"My thought process is not that of the ordinary individual. Whether you take that be a good or bad thing? That's up to you."

At Jennifer's question, he freezes. Careful, Slick.

He swallows visibly, then sighs, as if resigned.

"Ah... Militar... Nope. Militia." he confides. "It did play a factor in my name change, for sure." McCooley then picks up his glass, and downs the rest of the ginger ale. The fizziness of it filled him with a rush. The simple things in life.

Jennifer nods, apparently understanding. "Interesting. In Wallenburg, militias were once instrumental to the freedom of our people and the existence of democratic institutions. Helen's father was in the Revolutionary Army, I don't know whether you call that a rebel army or a militia. I know lots of people in the military, not so much in the militias. The city of Independence doesn't really need militias in the same way border towns do."

Gerald enters the bar, cradling a Wallenburgian infant. He waves down Jennifer and approaches, his 9 foot stature carrying him across the Bar in seconds. "Hey, Jen, the assistant secretary arrived early and Mikael is busy with him."

Jennifer reaches out to take the child. She cradles her in her lap. "She's quiet, huh? You have a magic touch, Gerald. Oh, by the way, there's a lady--a knight or something--over there by the chandelier. She's networking with other delegations. I think she's also coming to the next music night, so I wouldn't try putting off a meeting."

Gerald gives a low groan. "Okay, why don't you deal with that?"

"Because I'm not the chief of staff, that's why."

Gerald nods reluctantly. Then he takes note of Slick. "And who's this one? I don't think I've seen him before."

Slick was about to elaborate further, but then noticed this new, quite tall individual approach and stopped himself. That was close, he thinks to himself. He then takes note of this infant, and the tension within him mostly dissipates. "Oh, she's so adorable!" he exclaims, cooing over the little thing. Upon hearing the tall man talk about him, he averts his attention from the little bundle of joy. "Ah, greetings. My name's Slick." He extends his hand.

Slick politely smiles and nods towards Gerald, and watches him turn away. Then, he turns towards Jennifer. At her question, he ponders. After a moment, he answers: "If I were up to it."

His gaze lingers on the child. Yes, he wanted children, but could he offer them childhood?

He decides to elaborate. "Sure, most people have an instinctual desire for parenthood in some capacity. But, I just don't see where I fit in when it comes to that role. I don't exactly have a home of myself- I consistently travel, or reside in my Ambassador's office. Due to certain circumstances, my role is long-term, and I can expect at least having a comfortable place to stay for quite a while. But it's hardly a home." He frowns at this. Let's see...

"Well, what do you see in me, personally, Jennifer?"

"Well, what do you see in me, personally, Jennifer?"

Jennifer's lips tighten in contemplation. Well, I suppose different cultures have different priorities. She looks over Slick again and begins nodding, ever so slightly, as if settling on a course of action. "It's hard to say, only having met you a few minutes ago. It feels like minutes, at least. But from the evidence around me I see an artist and a soldier thrown together. That is not too uncommon a combination for an ambassador around here. It takes creativity of an artist to see your way through the process of improving international law, and it takes the strength of will and calculating intelligence of a soldier to turn the international community one way or another on a matter of policy. I don't know, maybe both of those traits are of great scarcity around here, but that would make them that much more valuable."

The child grabs her mother's finger again. "Then again, I could be wrong. I cannot pretend every piano player is the same, or every soldier. There was this one boy I dated in college, a reservist, who could barely navigate his hometown, much less a battlefield. Not too strong-willed either. When we had sex--well, there's more than one reason I kept looking."

Due to certain circumstances, my role is long-term, and I can expect at least having a comfortable place to stay for quite a while. But it's hardly a home." He frowns at this. Let's see...

"Well, what do you see in me, personally, Jennifer?"

Slick listened intently as Jennifer spoke. There was a sensitivity and understanding to her words that seemed to soothe him. At her mention of the reservist she dated, McCooley nodded in understanding.

"There are two constants right there that I would like for in a partner. Intelligence, and courage. Ideally, I'd find such a person's company to be refreshing. To pass them down to my children- if I have any-, would be another reason why." He considered her words again. "I must say, I'm flattered you see what you do in me. Maybe it's because I don't particularly have, ah, the greatest self-esteem. But, of course, I manage, and have been doing much better than I have been in years past."

At this, his gaze fixates again on the child. "Do you, ah, mind if I could hold her? Provided you're okay with that, of course."

"I guarantee you that wouldn't go your way," Bell calls from his spot at the Bar. "That Bug is better liked on its worst day than you on your best. Half the people who matter in this Bar owe Herby their lives. Threats against Herby are threats against us all and our sovereign positions.

Van Roy, wearing a black dress with a Hulldomian flag pin and black pumps, sits down at the bar.

“For the life of me, I don’t understand what all this shouting is about in here. One would think Ambassadors would comport themselves a bit better-even if this is the only place of debuachery in this building.”

She takes a sip of a bourbon on the rocks.

Ambassador DuBois enters a certain bar.

There are confused looks from the bar staff, as this is the first time he has been spotted outside of his office or the halls of the Assembly since being appointed to his position as the Jedin ambassador to the WA.

He sighs. "How about some punch?"

As if the bar were not chaotic enough, a great black crow, one of the largest crows one might see, came flying in. Those who had seen the Trellanian delegation around the building may recognize the bird, for it is the one commonly accompanying Dame Allania.

The bird lazily circles the room before coming to land, aiming to try to land on Van Roy's head. Why the bird would pick there of all places would baffle even the corvid's owner. And yet, it seems to have decided that is the spot to rest for now.
