"Tastes like alcoholic cod oil to me. Neville has to start putting these in places unwary bargoers won't steal them..." Bell makes a face, then takes another pull from the neck.

"I do..." Riley looks off sideways at nothing in particular.

"How do ya manage not to pay yer tab?" asks a Wallenburgian from the far end of the bar. "Even the friendliest establishment gets tired of patrons that don't pay at the end of the month."

"Well that was the first time I heard of that here, and I deeply wonder how is it happening." Another voice, a quite youthful one, brimmed from the other end of the bar. "That's from the perspective of someone who always pay his tabs, so I really wonder."

"I said on time. I pay my tab, just not at the correct time. Or maybe there's a booze fund so my government doesn't get me back. One of the two."

Hrrafe Redsmith, who is an ‘Apprentice Voice’ [I.e. a trainee diplomat] * — had entered the room a few minutes earlier, and had been engaged in a quiet but intense-looking conversation at the Bar with the place’s chef Dazza. The latter now throws up his hands in “On your head be it” gesture, and heads back into the kitchen. Hrrafe comes over to speak with Artorrios.

“You know how Dazza boasts of his ‘Australian fusion’cuisine,” he remarks. “Hwell, I’ve just talked him into attempting what one might call an ‘Ursine-Glaswegian fusion’ rrecipe…”

“Oh?” replies Artorrios, in a doubtful tone. “And hwhat would that be: Not deep-fried porridge, I hope?”

“No, chief,” Hrrafe answers him. “It’s deep-fried marmalade sandwiches!”

over to him. Hrafe looks at the sandwiches on that plate, sniffs them, and takes a bite from one of them.
Then he returns plate and its remaining contents to the bar, with a quite word to one of the bartenders, before coming back over to Artorrios.
"No good, alas," he reports. "Even with string holding the slices of bread firmly together, the cooking-oil leaches out too much of the marmalade."
He wanders out of the room, heading in the general direction of the main debating chamber.

*Slick McCooley eyes Bell, and approaches the ambassador slowly. As an honorary guest member of the club, his nation having been ejected some time earlier, he was rather lonely. He wants to redeem his nation in the eyes of a representative to one of the most influential nations in the WA. He makes his move, and approaches slowly, carrying, rather shrewdly, a glass of Southern Comfort.*

"Just wanted to chat..." he murmurs quietly, his normally shiny and kept hair rough and shaggy, though his visage conveyed sincerity and candor.

The youth at the corner of the bar still eyed the group, particularly the person who approached the two, with concern, while he was eating some small sandwiches and drinking a cup of the "suspect tea".

Either way, no apology necessary here. Don't let me stop you from prostrating yourself before Mr. Bell though. McCooley now watches on as the two ambassadors prepare to exchange rhetoric. In the meanwhile. he waits for Ambassador Bell to respond to Riley and him.

"Think of me like an interpreter: I take all the mutually exclusive opinions being shouted by the States and the Triumvirate, translate it into something coherent enough to constitute a position on the issues, then unplug my phone and go to bed. So far I've been fired twice, but the truth is nobody else can do what I do. Or at least everyone else is smart enough to run away screaming when they're asked."

McCooley decides by this point that he wants to talk to Riley more. "Say... Bell seems to be in a bit of a trance right now. Wanna talk by the balcony? I just need someone to talk to. Here, I'll leave him a note." with that, Bell reaches into his pocket for a notepad and pen, and rips out a sticky note. He simply writes in his distinct scrawl 'meet at balcony', and tacks it to the table in front of Bell.

Amused, Slick turns around, his face full of energy now.

The youth at the corner of the bar froze in silence as he stared at the group, believing that he was the one being referred to by the ambassador from Xanthal. Not because he would be beaten up by the latter, but he feared that he might kill him.
