The Emperor, serving as Ambassador, sips a glass of wine he held in his hand.

Ixhua glances up at a screen on the wall. “It does look like it, going by the numbers. It’s a shame, but hey, now I have something to write back home about. It’s a lot better than trying to turn “sat in a bar and drank a lot” into a formal report.”

“So, why did your nation join the World Assembly? I was talking to that proposal’s author a while ago, and his joined so they could make allies that could help protect them from the folks they seceded from. What about yours?”

“My nation joined, as it seemed to help spread globalism and international partnership. Of course, we also joined to protect ourselves. We have some neighbors that we fear plan to invade us.”

Ixhua sips her drink. “Neighbors more powerful than you’d like to deal with, I assume. Do they have something personal against your nation, or do you just hold a scrap of land they think would be better off in their hands?” Naqil had, over various conflicts, invaded and been invaded for both reasons. She was curious about which one applied to the Willania Imperium.

She was curious about which one applied to the Willania Imperium.

“Quite right. I suppose it’s a mix of the two. Back in my nation’s past, my people were foreigners in another land. We were fleeing from the destruction of the motherland, leaving the Mare Nostrum and Italia. They landed on the coast of the Dominion Sound, and quickly establish shed bases there. Over time, we grew. The border spread out, and started surrounding the grasslands, then the woods. But when we reached the mountains, barbarians raided our nation. This led to rivalry’s, and even now, the past stung like poison, and my nation is in rivalry with the neighbors, whose people are descendants of these barbarians.”

“Huh, that’s a little different than my nation’s usual conflicts. We have an on-again off-again spat, currently off, with Kyskin, over a little scrap of land that just happens to have oilfields on it. We also have a persistant rivalry with Muisa, who conquered us back some several hundred years ago and which we never really forgave them for.”

“What exactly happend to your Motherland? War? Natural disaster?”

We also have a persistant rivalry with Muisa, who conquered us back some several hundred years ago and which we never really forgave them for.”

"Some say it happened a long time ago, hidden within its Pax. Others say it sprouted during the end. But they all agree that it was a combination of internal corruption, barbarian invasions, weakening of the Motherland's power, and the division of it into 2."

“Division of- ah. Civil war.” Ixhua nods understandingly. “Those are always fun. So you fled from a national collapse, to a land full of savage barbarians who came to hate you and everything you stand for. Sounds like your nation had an absolutely delightful time.”

The East, no records are held, though rumors spread that they fell to the barbarians as well. But yes, it was a time for the ancestors. Eventually, they've managed to repel most of the barbarians. But, now here we are."

I’d suggest trying to raise up your most powerful city-god and have him or her or it overthrow your country-god. Gods you need to appease are a lot more trouble than they’re worth.”
