Should I join WA?

Postby Fallhalla (Ancient) » Sat May 30, 2009 6:47 am

It seems like the United Nations in real life, just telling everybody what to do. What are the pros/cons of joining?

The pros are that you get to propose and vote on resolutions, and vote for the regional Delegates, and maybe even run for Delegate your self.

The con is that your own nation is affected by the resolutions. Also, if you participle in the WA debates, you WILL need thick skin, as the above poster said.

Pros:
1) Another aspect of game interaction.
2) Express an enthusiasm for politics.
3) Take part in voting and debating.
4) Be given the chance to write your own legislation.

I don't see any cons really... other than the obvious fact that you don't always win debates, and majority votes that you don't necessarily agree with will effect the 'stats' of your nation. Even still, if you aren't emotionally attached to the game beyond what should be considered 'normal' you'll find that even these challenges present oppurtunity for fun.

The WA adds complexity to an otherwise simple game. Not to insult Nation states, but making decisions about tellegrams gets a little old sometimes. The WA is an ever changing place, and you can discuss things with real people. In short, it makes it alot more fun.

Scope out the WA and see how the majority votes most of the time, if you don't like it, don't join.

Indeed.

Nation States without the WA is more or less a glorified personality quiz. It's a lot more fun with it.

The World Assembly is a place to voice your opinions and concerns (if you have two endorsements anyway). The proposals you can submit will have an impact on all WA nations. It can be a blast writing these proposals. But as Sionis said, you must be thick skinned. It is pretty ungratifying work, to be blunt. Proposals don't get through most of the time.

But to put out solid proposals take the following steps.

1. Familiarize yourself with the rules.

Yes there are rules, and plenty of them. If your proposal violates one, it'll be nixed and you get a warning. Three warnings and you're out. Whether a proposal violates a rule or not is up to the mods though...

2. Submit it as a draft in the forums.

Let it be open to debate! You'll good ideas and honest criticisms that will help make your proposal better. This is also why you'll have to be thick skinned though because there are nations who are real jerks and will try to pulvarize you to an emotional pulp. Don't succumb to it, but take actual ideas and concerns to heart.

3. Campaign

This you have to be careful about. Do not advertise a proposal in the message board of a region. It's against game rules. Don't do it. I reiterate: don't do it. What you can do however, is telegram individual nations. It's very time consuming but effective. You should write out a message to send to everyone on Microsoft Word or a similar program that you will send to every nation. Then go through the list of nations and copy and past it to the telegram box of WA Delegates (only they can vote for proposals). I wouldn't do this to mods though, you never know what they'll think about it (you can find out who are the mods in the list of members in the forum). Also don't waste your time campaigning to the WA Delegate of "Christland" (hypothetical) if your proposal aims to abolish churches (although you wouldn't in actuality be able to do this).

I do hope to see you active in the World Assembly!

There are plenty of good reasons to join us in the Festering Snakepit, and If I think really hard I can give you and example......hmmmmm......well.........ummmmmmm...... oh I know, you get to learn our really cool secret handshake. One of the reasons I stay here, is because every other Wedsnday is the day the Thessadorian Ambassador wears a really tight t-shirt. Its truly an inspirational sight my friend.
