The General Assembly,
REAFFIRMING the commitment of this Assembly to protect children's civil rights, as expressed in General Assembly Resolution #4, "Restrictions on Child Labor";
DISAPPOINTED that "Restriction on Child Labor" did not define the definition of the Minor in a universal manner and therefore created a conflict between nations as to the Rule of Law;
CONCERNED that the wording of Section A Defines as a minor as, “a person below the legal age of majority as defined in their nation.” That this definition has allowed nations to declare the legal age of majority as any age including the age of the day of birth. That without a set parameters as to what is defined as the “Age of Majority” this Resolution has absolutely no power.
TROUBLED that Section A; was so poorly worded as to allow children in oppressive nations to be defined as Adults and placed in places of extreme danger with the consent of this August Body;
APPALLED that Section C bans the use of Minors in armed conflict but Section A allows nations to define for themselves what a Minor is. More to the point this terrible wording of the resolution has allowed member nations to wage war with children as young as 12 on a regular basis;
UNDERSTANDING that the flaws in Section A are too serious to be allowed to stand as international law;
CONVINCED that this Assembly can and must pass a resolution that better protects Children’s Safety in General as well as their Civil Rights;
Therefore:
1. REPEALS General Assembly Resolution #4, "Restrictions on Child Labor."
