In January 2017 she was asked again to serve but this time as the United States Ambassador to the World Assembly. She accepted President Hoekstra his offer and was nominated short after. She was confirmed with unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate after several so called "confirmation hearings" by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Prior to her appointments as Ambassador and Secretary of Foreign Trade and Development Assistance, Ms. van Hollen had been a Senior Foreign Service Officer at the State Department and administrator of USAID for about a year. Which is one of the agencies she also later headed as Secretary. She had been nominated to this position while she still served as a Member of Congress between 2008 and 2012. During her time in the House of Representatives Ms. van Hollen served on several committees, including the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
