This whole argument seems to be "this is bad because it's bad". If you do not have any meat to your stance, you aren't debating, you are just arguing.

Do you mean why is slavery bad? It violates rights, like freedom of movement, and freedom from forced labor. You can, abstractly, ask why we consider those to be rights or why we should subscribe to a rights-based ethics in policymaking but, suffice it to say that, per the vote, there is an overwhelming consensus on their importance and applicability.

That, and it screws over the instituitions involved in slaveholding by providing no compensation, and the slaves themselves by giving them nothing to work with after freedom. Right, the General Assembly is forcing its agenda of "don't force people to toil and die for your agenda" upon nations that do want to force their agenda upon people. Do you understand you don't really have a moral argument to make here?

In any case, nations coming together to discuss and negotiate issues peacefully and globally is inherently liberal; slaver nations like yourself would usually *not* join the international organization that might try to put some oversight on their evil practices that cause immense suffering for profit. You still have the freedom to not adopt this particular piece of legislation, so your government is being granted much more license and agency than it apparently grants its own residents.

To put it in more neutral terms, authoritarian regimes do not benefit from giving up any of their authority and so it simply isn't in their self-interest to join a body like the World Assembly that does require member nations to sacrifice some authority in the interest of international cooperation. So ither slaver and authoritarian states are generally not part of the World Assembly and therefore won't influence the results of World Assembly votes.

If indeed the goal of the resolution is to combat slavery, I would like to respectfully point out what, in my view, are a few issues.

In “Slavery” is a state of servitude in which a natural person or other entity exercises the powers of ownership over another person;

I would like to point out that the use of "natural person" in the first half of the sentence and the use of "person" in the latter half might lead to ambiguity, wherein one might plausibly interpret "person" to be "legal person" and hence render the ownership, by any Entity, of corporations to be a state of slavery.

Would like to request clarification regarding the status of Community service. Community service can often be a system in which labour is forced upon a natural person against their will under the threat of penalty. It is unclear if any of the three exceptions address the ambiguity.

Would like to express my reservation at the exception permitting forced labour for "half of an individual's life expectancy"
Powers that suspend rights must be proportional, scope limited, with precisely defined trigger conditions. Half of life expectancy might be a larger fraction of working age. This implies that the resolution would permit member nations to compel a natural person to spend most of their employable years in servitude. This would likely have detrimental conditions on the old age wellbeing of a Natural Person

Would like to request elaboration on the definition of "informed" consent.

You're welcome to demand that people see it this way, but clearly they don't. I don't see the value in giving extensive treatment to the moral justification behind rights based frameworks for a single person who doesn't agree with the consensus on this. I gave pretty extensive treatment, already, to what you should do if you find your nation's identity or functioning so threatened by a proposal that this body of member nations has negotiated for addressing what it feels are compelling arguments for an international guarantor of these rights. Suffice it to say that your nation's prerogative to self-govern remains intact.

When I entered this chamber I expected to mostly hear arguments that the proposal is too permissive. Umeria finds indentured servitude to be a backward practice and sees no reason to accommodate it, and while we understand the necessity of conscription in some extreme circumstances, doing so for what amounts to the entirety of one's working life is beyond justification.

Instead I hear a chorus of loud voices decrying the notion of having a prohibition on slavery at all! WA overreach, they say! Well I ask, is it not overreach to exert total control over another human being, to be able to torture, rape, murder them without any repercussions, to have 'law enforcement' hunt down those who escape and drag them back to their captors? There is no reason, no possible excuse to permit this practice. Not 'culture', not 'history', none!

While I have long been skeptical of the 'national sovereigntist' movement, I agree with many here that not even that framework justifies opposition to this proposal. There can be no freedom of the nation without freedom of all people within that nation. It is good that, while they are certainly a loud minority, the pro-slavery extremists are still very much in the minority. Umeria votes in favor of this proposal and looks forward to adopting it.
