World Cup of Hockey 14 RP/Roster thread

Postby Qazox » Sun Jan 23, 2011 9:21 pm

WELCOME TO QAZOX!

If you are here for the 14th World Cup of Hockey, then you are in the correct place. If you're here for the 14th World Hacky-Sack Championships, then you are not in the right place.

In Qazox, we don't enforce rigid cultural norms. Many citizens walk around naked, especially the sentient gases and the Cetaceans, and most of the merfolk. But since the vast majority of you visitors are going to be in the cities, don't worry about it, we usually wear casual clothes as to not freak-out the visitors.

Since the final number of sign-ups is not yet completed; we don't have a complete venue list, yet; but expect one soon. But since you're here, please post your roster and RP something about yourself, your nation, moose, or whatever else tickles your fancy.

Within your roster post somewhere, please copy/paste this small questionnaire with your responses. If you do not post a style modifer, it will be set to 0. I will allow ONE style modifer change per nation during the tourney; but only during the group stages. Once the playoffs start, your modifier will be locked in.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Y/N
Godmod scoring events: Y/N
RP injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players: Y/N
Hand out penalties to my players: Y/N
Godmod other events: Y/N
STYLE MODIFIER: -3 (most defensive) to +3 (most offensive)

Rosters will be linked to once the Groups have been announced and there will be a separate Scores thread, in which the rosters will be linked to.

Enough of the business end of this, get cracking on those RP's and rosters!

Any OOC disscussions or questions belong in the WCoHDT. Thank you!

Roster:
Kevin Hautifi/G/#16/AGE: 39
Kevin is a strong 24 year-old man that owns and pwns everyone at goalie. He has only let 9 pucks in the net his whole carrer. Also, If you get a puck in, you will die!!...In the morning. Kevin has never been injuried or stuck to something in any way.

Daylon Orali/LDM/#2/AGE: 35
Standing at 6,3 and weighing at 202 lbs is none other than the great Left defense man Daylon Orali! He is a beast at defending and can stop anyone dead in their tracks, Literally, he stops people and kills them. Be afraid! Anyhow, Daylon is a good hockey player and an average person.

Michael Buckley/RDM/#3/AGE: 34
Michael isn't good at defending, nor does he know what a Right Defense man is. But, he does know that he can play hockey better than anyone on the team. He is a pro at hockey. Just like how Jaleel White was good at basketball.

Jake Gaisdui/C/#7/AGE: 23
Jake is a German-American who can play just like everyone else. He is good at centerfowarding, he's a nice person, and loves the game of hockey. He is often reffered to as a "hockey fantic or fanboy" but he only likes the game, he doesn't worship it! Why? Do you think he goes to The Holy Church of Hockey Pucks?! Seriously?!!

Dimitri Roberazzi/LWF/#5/AGE: 40
Dimitri is a freshly drafted Russian hockey player. Russians are good at hockey, right? (no offense). Dimitri is from Vladivostok, Russia and played as a foward in the Russia Men's Olympic Hockey Team in the winter Olympics. He dreams of becoming a pro hockey player and move to Anarctican to play in the Anarctica Hockey Team, which doesn't exist but try telling him that! Dimitri is a nice person and has little temper issues.

Alexei Borodin/RWF/#10/AGE: 41
Alexei Borodin was a former Teinohikiran hockey player. And now he is back. Dimitri is from Vladivostok, Russia and played as a foward in the Russia Men's Olympic Hockey Team in the winter Olympics. He dreams of becoming a pro hockey player and move to Alaska to play in the Alaskan Hockey Team, which doesn't exist but try telling him that! Dimitri is a nice person and has little temper issues.

Ruhstad Journal : Sport
article wrote by our Journalist from Qazox : Ursula Kristiansdòtter

The Hakkland's Hockey team is here in Qazox. The Blue Lions arrived today morning to the Qazox capital Airport.
Here's the interview that I had with the Hakkland's Captain : Jens Heidelberg :

Journalist : Jens, first, how was the trip from Hakkland to here ?
J.Heidelberg : Ah well it was a bit long, due to the distance between the two countries, but you know it's always great to discover a country that you've never visited before.
Journalist : Great. I would like to ask you about the team ? do you think that our team has a good ambiance ?
J.Heidelberg : Yes, that's a very good question. Of course the ambiance is so important and we know that, so we do our best to make it good and cool.
Journalist : Finally, do you think Hakkland has chances to win the cup ?
J.Heidelberg : haha.. I don't know. We don't know our group and opponents yet, but i'm sure all teams are well prepared to go as far in the competition as possible, so it's going to be hard.
Journalist : Thank you Jens Heidelberg.

That was a global idea on the situation of our team here in Qazox. Good luck to Hakkland, good luck to The Blue lions.

Albertasby's Adventure
Annie-Elizabeth, Sports Editor

Today, the Royal Albertasbian Hockey Team flew over to Qazox, to participate in the Hockey World Cup. It seems that, although we have no experience internationally as a hockey team, the head coach is extremely proud and looking forward to the competition.

Our understanding is, that the Royal Albertasbian Hockey team is as follows;
GoalKeeper: Snowflake White
Left Defender : Annie-Elizabeth Levick (Princess of Albertasby)
Right Defender : Adrian Blakely
Left Winger : David Tate
Right Winger : Gavin Lobb
Centre : Aimee Peirson (Captain)

We have also been informed that the subs will be;
Catherine Tennant, Ryan Reece, Richard Wellington, Benji Watts, Christine Chiles and Phillip Smith

The team have also released their kits and we are happy to release the images of the kits for the first time. Home;

As a proud sports editior, I have 100% faith in the Albertasbian team and wish them all the luck in the world! With our current performance at the rugby world cup, we are hoping that this too will be an impressive debut. COME ON ALBERTASBY!

World Cup of Hockey Sweater introduced

Image

Whilst Coach Guy Lemaire has yet to announce his squad for the 14th World Cup of Hockey, Hockey Cotdelapoms has unveiled their brand new sweater that they will be wearing at the competition. Where the sweater they wore at the 13th World Cup was inspired by the old Cotdelapoms Cup winning teams of the 70's, the sweater they will be wearing at this tournament is inspired by the early days of hockey in Cotdelapoms. The cream colour is a throwback to the old Montréal Apples teams from a hundred years ago, as is the banner underneath the trademark national apple logo. This year's sweaters will also feature no names on the back, much as they would in that era of hockey.

Likely national teamers Pierre Drouin, Julien Champagne and Alexandre Briere were present when the sweater was unveiled, and all had great things to say. "It's wonderful to represent the history of the sport in this country. Our ancestors helped to invent the game, and we shouldn't get away from that- we should honour and cherish it." said Champagne, the young Montréal Cotdelapomais winger who has become one of the most popular players in the CHL.

The jerseys will be on sale across the country this week, and you can get one at www.hockeycotdelapoms.cdp . There was no word at the press conference as to whether these sweaters would be worn at the Olympics as well, which are also coming up. Hockey Cotdelapoms' chief Christian Montmorency joked "it depends on how well we do."

Coach Lemaire's training camp begins this week, bringing in 40 players, from which he will select the 23 that will go to the World Cup of Hockey. The big surprise at camp was big Benoît Cohen, who lit up the World Junior Championship and has just begun his first season in the CHL (after being drafted #1 overall!)- he is an excellent power forward, but he has yet to have much time playing with men as opposed to other kids, and few expect him to the make the team.

Just over 25 years ago Qazox had come off winning their 2nd World Cup of Hockey title and were awarded the hosting rights to the 7th edition of the championships. They reached the finals, defeating region-mates Prux and Taeshan and it looked like a Qazoxian hockey dynasty was in the making. But Valanora came back from a 2-1 deficit to stun the Pheonix on their home ice and took home the first of their back-to-back titles. Since that fateful weekend almost 28 years ago, the Qazoxian hockey team has wandered in the wilderness. But now the Championships are once again being hosted by Qazox. Will history repeat itself, and send the team back into the cold; or will history be re-written with the dawning of a new age of Qazoxian hockey dominance?

Den Véek Magazine - SPORT
Tuesday 25 January 2011

Few days before the official start of the 14th World Cup of Hockey, participating teams are making some retouches to get ready for the big event. Hakkland's "Blue Lions" are very motivated to play great games and show the world who we are. The team's plane arrived yesterday morning to Qazox the host country after 7 hours in the air. The players and the staff had a rest day yesterday. Today, they started discovering this country by visiting the main monuments and great places in the capital. The team also visited one of Qazox greatest restaurants, to taste the local cuisine, and get closer to local people. At the end of the day, the players expressed their joy and satisfaction of conditions here in Qazox, and noticed that people are very hospitable, and the local cuisine is so delicious.
Tomorrow, the team will start its trainings in a stadium near from the hotel, in order to start getting involved and focused on the competition.

Tarrentum Falcons

The Tarrentum Sports Committee announced the National Hockey Team roster, starting lines and pertinent information for the Falcons World Cup of Hockey debut. Francine Boddalla, Secretary of the TSC, announced all members of the national hockey team earlier today at a Press Conference at Dedengon Life Insurance Sportplex, home to the (now-defunct) PHL Greatness Cup Champions, the Krozuy Commanders.

*First and Last Name (Uni #), Age, HT, WT, S/C; Hometown; PHL Team
**Starting Goaltender in Bold; 1st Line in Bold

Goalies
Treppi Sama ASST. CAPTAIN (39), 30, 6-2, 185, L; Upper Didi, Napole; Krozuy Commanders – Sama recently helped lead the Krozuy Commanders to win the 2010 PHL Greatness Cup. Along the way Sama gave up 75 goals in 70 games (out of an 80 game season) he also picked up some hardware including the E.S.P. Borgia Award for Post-season MVP and the Briccenza Award for the PHL’s best goaltender. Sama is masterful on the ice and prefers the traditional crouch position as opposed to the increasingly popular Butterfly.
Illio Reddando (29), 33, 6-1, 223, R; Pullo, Krozile; Trumboi Chariots – Reddando helped the Chariots reach the Greatness Cup Playoffs last year and started a league-leading 76 games. Reddando is quick with his feet but his strategic thinking leaves a little to be desired.
Aio Fierren (30), 26, 5-11, 201, L; Yui, Krozile; Garatia Snowhounds – Fierren started his first year in the PHL in 2010 after serving as goaltender for the Imperium Hockey League’s (minor league hockey) Apolln City Thunderjacks the previous three seasons. Fierren played in 62 games last year and helped the Snowhounds reach the GC Playoffs as the #4 team overall (second in the Legionnaire Conference). Fierren’s inexperience at the higher levels sometimes creeps up but he should be a solid backup for the WCoH.

Defensemen
Giuseppe Callista (4), 27, 6-0, 217, L; Florentine, Tarrentum; Sainte-Jerro Archangels – Callista has found success in the PHL for his quick defensive play and ability to force opposing players off the puck. Callista was the runner up for the Dario-Maximo Award for the league’s top defensemen. Goals: 5, Assists: 14, PIM: 105
Maximo Sallai III (6), 21, 6-4, 236, R; Napoliroma, Tarrentum; Krozuy Commanders – Sallai, grandson of defensive legend Maximo Sallai (who lent his name to the Dario-Maximo Award), played magnificently for the Commanders last year winning the 2010 D-M Award along with the team’s achievement of the 2010 Greatness Cup. Sallai is more imposing and physical player than his grandfather but has enough “gas in the tank” to keep the legs churning throughout the game. Goals: 3, Assists: 10, PIM: 135
Enzo Salamicchi (3), 23, 6-0, 218, L; Napole, Napole; Krozuy Commanders – Salamicchi’s play alongside Sallai helped out the Commanders win a couple of close games last season. Salamicchi compliments Sallai’s physical style of play with a more finesse-minded style. But don’t call Salamicchi soft, he can lay out a vicious hip check when the need arises to pin a man against the boards. Sallai led all PHL defensemen with 13 goals last year. Assists: 9, PIM: 89
Erri Dommia (44), 30, 6-2, 219, L; Vardin Mountain, Krozile; Florentine Kings – Dommia has been Captain for the Kings the past two seasons and has been the main shining defensive star for the offensively-minded Kings. Dommia is great at penalty killing and looks to have a breakout year in the 2011 PHL season. Goals: 2, Assists: 23, PIM: 121
Paulo “The Guy” Gianetti CAPTAIN (28), 37, 5-10, 198, R; West Hughton, Napole; Lake Empress Mercenaries – Gianetti earned his nickname playing in the IHL. When his club, the Yui Region Slayers, was on the brink of losing in the IHL championships, Gianetti became “the guy” who was there to steal a pass and score a shorthanded goal to tie the game. The amazing thing is, he saved the Slayers again by being “the guy” who stopped the game winning shot the following year by taking one in the…let’s just say he recouped for a long time after that game. Gianetti’s career is winding down but his play has stayed steady. His determination and experience will help the rest of the team throughout the tournament. Goals: 5, Assists: 15 PIM: 75
Nero Udanna (20), 25, 6-1, 201, R; Kuli Caffron, Napole; Trumboi Chariots – Udanna has been a hard-hitting player since moving up to the PHL four years ago. His 239 penalty minutes led the PHL, including his 3 game misconducts. His 10-game suspension towards the end of the regular season last year helped calm Udanna down enough for him to play the final two weeks and the postseason. Goals: 2, Assist: 5
Fabino Stortini (19), 27, 6-3, 210, L; Gallen, Apolln; Napole Scholars – Stortini was the Scholars lone representative at the All-Star Game and really their only good player. Stortini is quick on the ice and quick with the stick to score goals from the point, making for an exciting game when he’s on the ice. Goals: 25, Assists: 19, PIM: 87

*First and Last Name (Uni #), Age, HT, WT, S/C; Hometown; PHL Team

Forwards
Josoni Saru (9), 26, 6-0, 208, R; Napoliroma, Tarrentum; Florentine Kings – Saru’s ability to find the open lane and get to the net is always on display during Kings games. The top scorers in the PHL (262 Goals For), the Kings have made Saru feel right at home. Saru’s 60 goals last year led the PHL and helped him net the Italiana Award for PHL regular season MVP and the Flavius Florio Award for the league’s most outstanding Forward. Assists: 29, PIM: 65
Salao Vedden ASST. CAPTAIN (42), 26, 6-3, 225, L; Gallen, Apolln; Garatia Snowhounds – Vedden’s puckhandling is one of the best in the PHL and he showcases those skills game in and game out throughout the season. Vedden won the PHL 2010 All-Star Skills Competition and won the Spirit of the Game Trophy for best sportsmanship during the regular season. Vedden is a good all-around player, not very quick but not at all slow. Goals: 45, Assists: 20, PIM: 15 (though he claims that the instigation call wasn’t his fault)
Michael Brossimi (24), 25, 5-11, 188, R; South Pezza, Tarrentum; Krozuy Commanders – Brossimi led the Commanders in goals last season with 34 (team scored 111 in the regular season) and won the Brasto Giuseppe Memorial Trophy as the league MVP as voted by peers. Brossimi has the ability to skate through defensive traps and set up teammates for goals but his real value is in his defensive play (a staple of all Krozuy teams). Assists: 31, PIM: 52
Marco Feretti (23), 34, 5-10, 190, R; Trumboi, Napole; Sainte-Jerro Archangels – Feretti’s prowess as a scorer is matched only by his temper. A controversial selection to the National Team, Feretti has told reporters in the weeks leading up to the roster announcement that he would be on his best behavior during international play. We’ll see how long that mindset lasts. Goals: 29, Assists: 14, PIM: 191
Vincent Carrero (88), 22, 5-10, 179, L; Krozuy, Krozile; Napoliroma Legion – Carrero has been the leading goal scorer for the Legion since coming up from the IHL three years ago. He was widely seen as the savior of the team but then fans realized that he needed a supporting cast to get him the puck. His talent should shine on the international stage as he is finally playing up to his talent level. Goals: 49, Assists: 12, PIM: 45
Rian Vallena (17), 26, 6-2, 202, R; Trulin, Apolln; Bolonza Meatmen – Vallena (that name should ring a bell to baseball fans) has been a boon to the Meatmen since signing with them in Free Agency last year from Sainte-Jerro. He helped pull the Meatmen from last in the league into fourth from last place. Many fans and reporters in Bolonza realized that the Meatmen would have been worse off had Vallena’s power not been there. His two-year contract is supposedly in talks to be renewed by the Meatmen who can ill afford to lose their star. Vallena is, as many have guessed, the older brother of International Breakout Star Dessea Vallena. Goals: 35, Assists: 16, PIM: 75
Raphael Phillipi (81), 32, 5-11, 185, L; Lake Empress, Krozile; Lake Empress Mercenaries – The Mercernaries hometown hero, Phillipi has captained the team since arriving via a trade 6 years ago which sent a young Treppi Sama to Krozuy, but Lake Empress fans have said that they would take Phillipi over anyone. His contract shows that their maxim is true, being the largest in the PHL. Phillipi guided the Mercenaries to a PHL GC Playoff appearance as the #5 team overall. The Mercs had a quick exit though, losing to Garatia 4-0 in the first round. Phillipi should provide a good anchor for his line. Goals: 29, Assists: 34, PIM: 115
Silas Coretti (15), 34, 6-1, 205, R; Pullo, Krozile; Apolln Ducks – Coretti has helped the lowly Ducks manage to pull out 23 wins and 23 ties during the regular season. He was lampooned towards the end of the season by TSPNN by saying that a couple of “…better shots, better bounces, better calls – we could have been in the playoffs.” The Ducks finished 11th out of 12 PHL teams last year. Goals: 30, Assists: 19, PIM: 69
Hielo Brusconi (32), 26, 5-11, 189, L; Garatia, Krozile; Krozuy Commanders – Brusconi plays a hard defensive-minded offense for the Commanders. Many sports writers have tried to understand that phrase and the only answer that they can come up with is to watch Brusconi play. He has great penalty kill ability and was a great piece of the puzzle that helped the Commanders win the Cup last year. Goals: 19, Assists: 35, PIM: 117
Nicholas Sforzina (16), 23, 5-11, 190, R; Krozuy, Krozile; Trumboi Chariots – With Sforzina leading the way, the Chariots thundered into the competition last year, finishing the regular season and the PHL Playoffs in third place. Sforzina has a good command of the offensive side of the puck but still has some deficiencies when he has to get back on defense. Goals: 28, Assists: 12, PIM: 100
Robért Gradón (54), 25, 6-2, 208, R; Napoliroma, Tarrentum; Lake Empress Mercenaries – It’s Row-BEAR Grah-DOUN, as he constantly reminds Tarrentian reporters. Gradón is the grandson of the first Forrumm ambassador to Tarrentum. His parents settled in Napoliroma after Robért’s grandfather had left the employment of the embassy and Robért was born shortly afterwards. Gradón has been a benefit to the Mercs this year and has benefitted from being on the same line as Raphael Phillipi. Goals: 24, Assists: 12, PIM: 112
Marus Antilli (26), 25, 6-0, 205, L; Doria, Apolln; Casslaha Ice Monsters – Antilli is one of the hardest hitting Forwards in the PHL. Though a decent scorer his role has been that of a punishing forechecker and has the ability to stop a counterattack in it’s tracks. Goals: 13, Assists: 20, PIM: 178

Team Staff:
General Manager: Flavius Florio; Napoliroma, Tarrentum; Yes it’s THAT Flavius Florio - the Flavius Florio who helped pioneer ice hockey in Tarrentum 50 years ago. Though 73, Florio’s mind has stayed sharp and he hopes that his success managing the Florentine Kings translates to respect and success internationally for Tarrentum.
Head Coach: Giuseppe Calarone, Krozuy Commanders; Pullo, Krozile; Calarone guided the Commanders to the PHL’s best record and to the 2010 Championship, winning the Victory Award for the league’s coach of the year. Calarone is very defensively minded and is confident that he can get his team to play a defense-first style of hockey while working in their own unique abilities.
Assistant Coaches: Brione Farelli, AC – Krozuy Commanders; Garatia, Krozile; Claudius Sazzero, AC – Sainte-Jerro Archangels; West Hughton, Napole
Team Doctor: Dr. Fabio Buttera, St. Timothy’s Memorial Hospital; Napole, Napole

Vulshainian Confederate News and Media Network

The Winter Paladins are Back!

After their defeat in the 13th World Cup of Hockey last year, the Winter Paladins of Vulshain are back and they mean business. "We're back everyone!" This was the battlecry of team captain Lindicha McErul. The roster is still the same as of last year. However, the team's head coach, Yuriy Valery, retired in December 2010, passing the torch to the Sebastian Orfeo. Orfeo is well-known for his supportive nature to his players as well as his commitment to them. "If a player is having trouble, I help them. That's how I think a coach should treat his players. I may be tough at times, but it's only because I care about them. If I didn't, well, I wouldn't care if they acted like bumps on a log all day."

Many people are watching Lindicha McErul. The young Lobo player has been practicing since the Winter Paladins' defeat last year. She is very skilled and has improved greatly. Orfeo commented on her. "While all of the Winter Paladins have improved greatly since I came onboard, she's the one who has become dedicated and committed to this team. I wouldn't be surprised if the other teams tremble in fear of her!"

Offical WCoH Update!

Postby Qazox » Tue Jan 25, 2011 11:54 pm

Sign-ups have been cut off at 45 teams.

There will be 5 pots of teams for the group Draw which will be posted in this thread on Saturday afternoon at roughly 11:30am EST.

POT 1: Host and the top 8 ranked teams in tourney: (Qazox, Toyur, Kelssek, Plutoni, Cassadaigua, Valanora, Allamunic States, Delaclava, Sibirsky)

POT 2: Next 9 highest ranked teams in Tourney: (Quintessence of Dust, Teinohikira, Shofercia, Newmanistan, Cosumar, Mossulia, Cotdelapoms, Tarrentum, Western cuba)

POT 3: Next 9 highest ranked teams in Tourney/Unranked teams in order of sign-ups: (Churchma, Swartaz, Warkus, Silver Beach, Civil Citizenry, Garon-Averia, Auremena, Voiderus, Vulshain)

POT 4: Unranked teams in order of sign-ups: (Kercia, Countrydonia, Meguroko, Colmark, Mytannion, Kazzoria, Carasatoga, Mangolana, Albertasby)

POT 5: Unranked teams in order of sign-ups: (Corpi, Arcquest, North Chicanan, Narsora, Starplain, Nova Cambria et PBI, Hakkland, Lilua, Gonzalez Isle)

One team from each pot will be randomly drawn into each group. The Schedules will be posted approximately 2 hours after the Group Draw is posted as will the Scores thread. The Group stage will ICly take place within each nation's arenas, while every playoff game will take place in Qazox. Ties WILL be allowed in the group stage after one overtime. In the group stage 3 points will be given for a victory, 1 for a tie and no points for a loss in regulation or OT.

There will be NINE groups of 5 teams each, with each team playing a double-round robin vs. the other teams in their group. Although I did state in the bid that there would be only 16 teams in the playoffs, with 9 groups, 18 playoff teams will be used as to be fair to all teams involved. The TOP TWO teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. The 4 lowest ranked 2nd placed teams will play a one-game play-in to determine the 15th and 16th seeds for the playoffs.

Any nation(s) that CTE during the tourney shall not advance into the playoffs and the 3rd place team(s) from their group(s), if not CTE'd well, will advance in their stead. If perchance 2 nations from the same group CTE during the tourney, the BEST 3rd placed team, regardless of group will advance in their stead. (I'm not putting through a 4th/5th placed team that might have only 2 points into the playoffs)

In the playoffs, there will be one Overtime period followed by a best 3-of-5 shoot-out for each game. Each playoff series will be a best 2-of-3 game series with the Championship Series being a best 3-of-5 games series, execpting the aforementioned play-in games.

Tiebreakers to be used: for ties within a group and for seeding purposes.

Mossulia Echo

A new government, a new hockey team

Yet again we have managed to over throw our government with our second revolution in the last 3 years. The last government was simply an insane dictatorship which has now been changed into a free democracy. With the old regime went our famous pessimism which dominated the broadsheet newspapers. Instead there is now more cautious optimism which you'll probably find a lot less annoying. Also we now have a proper hockey team instead of a bunch of people picked off the street to play for us. Hopefully with a strong squad we can win the cup.

With this cup we have achieved to climb into pot 2 which will give the lads a major confidence boost. Last time the team only just crashed out in the play-off's against QoD. This time the team hopes to go a couple of steps further and has set it's target at reaching the quarter-finals. If we keep going maybe we will eventually win this cup, which would be a nice change from the constant failure.

And finally now here is our squad. We picked the top players from across Mossulia. The new government is very supportive of sport and sees it as a great opportunity to make money. Tickets are being brought up and sold by the Mossulian site Superticket for a small fortune. Rich Mossulians are also buying shares in Mossulian hockey merchandise. Here is the squad:

Starters in bold

GK- Daniel Port
GK- Ewan Thompson
DF- Fred Tricky

Ruhstad Journal : Sport

The Hakkland's Hockey National Federation - HHNF declared today morning that the home matches are going to be held in The Nystad Metrodome in the city of Nystad and not in Haksburg the capital. The federation also declared that the choice of Nystad as host city for the Hakkland's national team matches was not hasardous; "Nystad has one of the best hockey teams in Hakkland, and people here are very interested in this sport, more than any other city in the country, so we expect that the arena will be totally full of fans supporting Hakkland..And that's what we want for our national team" said the federation's chairman : Gùnther Schneider.

GOALIES
Jean-Claude Gorges (Burnaby MLHC)
The type of goalie who seems to get better the more shots he faces. Likes to come out to challenge shooters.

Joseph Akin (Dinamo Lupinissia)
Good flexibility and positioning, excellent glove work, but has a tendency to cough up unfortunate rebounds.

Lewis Belani (Breton Emeralds)
Experienced starter getting a third-string role on the national team and secretly hoping Akin coughs up a lot of unfortunate rebounds.

DEFENCEMEN
Sven Stefanovic (Neorvins Wolves)
A very ungentle giant equally prized for his fearless shotblocking and his "sandpaper" factor; gets under the skin and invokes frustration amongst opposition forwards, but also has a reputation as a dirty player.

Rob Fletcher (Kirkenes Dragons)
Hard-nosed and hardworking, doesn't hesitate to block shots and clear the brush in front of the net.

Stephane Lefèvre (CS Val d'Argent)
A fast and skilled player who can make great breakout passes and quarterback the powerplay.

Frédéric Arnal (Colwyn HC)
Scrappy offensive defenceman who comes out of the corners with the puck more often than not.

Colin Calderwood (Internationale Latrobe) A
Hard-hitting stay-at-home defenceman who camps out on the points waiting to unleash his wicked slap shot.

Josh Mulroney (Mazinaw Knights)
Skilled and quick defenceman who doesn't hesitate to join an offensive rush.

Louis Guillemot (Olympique Langlois)
Technically sound and doesn't often let opponents get past him, but has a tendency to take undisciplined penalties.

Kevin Sheridan (Breton Emeralds)
Young and exciting defensive player with good speed and a quick release shot.

FORWARDS
Laurent Oberforsky (CH Outineau)
Playmaking skill forward who likes to dump the puck and set up plays from behind the net.

Pierre Dubois (Burnaby MLHC)
Uses his good hand-eye coordination to lurk near the net trying to score deflections.

Phillip Adams (Dinamo Lupinissia)
A great puckhandler who skates circles around most defencemen. Doesn't have the best shot, however.

Gary Bavarillo (Internationale Latrobe)
A physical player, he's quick to pounce on rebounds and it's not easy to clear this guy away from the net. Enjoys trying to wind up the opposition goalie.

Séverin Jeanne (CH Outineau) C
Sporting and determined, the heart-and-soul captain of one of the KHL's most history and tradition-laden teams. A deadly sniper as far as shooting bits of rubber is concerned.

Harry White (Kirkenes Dragons)
Occasionally impulsive, as his running off during a previous World Cup to get married to one of the Secristan ice girls shows, but a solid and reliable two-way player.

Ben Connaught (Internationale Latrobe)
Young playmaking forward who uses his skill to deke past defenders.

Taylor Austin (Faucons de Saint-Rémy)
Big and speedy power forward, shot doesn't have the best accuracy but a good run of form got him the call-up.

Marko Russlund (Jokerit Arvika)
Intimidating presence on the ice, his size belies his excellent technique and grasp of the tactical aspects of the game. Can thread tape-to-tape passes through forests of legs and sticks.

Denis Roche (CH Outineau)
Rough and tumble player who likes to forecheck and pressure the breakout pass.

Sydney Crawford (Red Star Clayquot) A
Exciting young star with franchise player potential. Fast, skilled and deadly accurate with his shooting.

Shaun O'Leary (Partisans Clayquot)
Deceptive shooter who can often fool the goalie with a quick release or a backhander.

Leigh Blunt (Olympique Langlois)
A pretty boy who reels in his share of puck bunnies, but isn't afraid to battle through bigger and tougher defenders to get to the net.

Evan Chong (Burnaby MLHC)
Another young 'un with much potential to fulfill, widely tipped for a breakout year anytime now. A complete package, he shoots, passes and checks well.

TYPICAL LINES/PAIRS
Oberforsky-Crawford-Dubois
Bavarillo-White-Jeanne
Adams-Connaught-Roche
O'Leary-Austin-Chong

Stefanovic-Calderwood

RepSports.com: Today the head of the Republic's Department of Recreation, Kjell Selberg, announced the much anticipated final roster for the Republic National Team, which will make its first international appearance in the 14th running of the World Cup of Hockey later this month. Team 'Star Fox', as it has jokingly been refered to, has a lot to prove in the coming weeks as it makes the big leap onto the international stage. When asked how much pressure he thought his team was under coach Paavo Virtanen stated, "I don't think the pressure could be greater. For the first time, we are taking our national sport, which we all love so much, and putting out there against the world. I think the boys are nervous which is expected, but they're focussed, and I can guaruntee we will be ready come group play." Virtanen, head coach of RJK, brings two of his best players with him to WCoH 14. The current roster gives quite a good cross section of this year's talent in AS-Ligaen, but in Virtanen's own words, "Team comes before Talent." Coach Virtanen chose players not just based off their stat sheets, but based off how well they play as a unit. We'll see how well this strategy plays out in a tournement which is sure to keep us on the edge of our seats. So, without further adieu, here is the final roster for Republic National Ice Hockey Team:

Choose my scorers: TG me first.
Penalise my players: Yes, make sure its a roughness or contact-related penalty. I’d prefer a TG first to clear it.
Eject my players: Yes, if it fits into the game well. Don't simply eject players if it wouldn't make sense from an RP or story standpoint. TG first.
Injure my players: Yes, but I determine severity outside of game-ending for a player.
Godmod scoring: Make it interesting if you use this. TG with me first.
Godmod injuries: Make it interesting if you use this. TG with me first.
Godmod other events: Make it interesting if you use this. TG me first.

Overview: The "Volunteers" system seems to have worked well; players, at least temporarily, for the duration of their time with the team, resign all contracts with domestic teams or franchises, and join the national team full-time. This change in approach yielded the first World Bowl playoff appearances for an Allamunnic team, and a championship run for the lacrosse team, so the formerly-lackluster hockey team hopes to continue to benefit from the change in approach.

Physicality has generally been a strength of Allamunnic teams, not finesse. It’s those roots the Tide is looking to get back to, as they'll try to bludgeon every team they face with superior power, strength, and aggression, and they'll focus more than ever on playing fast and hard after being outclassed by a championship-winning Plutoni squad in the quarterfinals in the 12th WCoH. An aggressive offense will likely be the hallmark of this team. There will be a very good power-play presence for this team, with hopefully a lot of scoring overall. Expect good penalty-killing, as well. Fighting will not be nearly as prevalent as it was last time around, but it will still be a big part of the way the Tide plays.

It is worth note that it was decided that a specific enforcement line was no longer necessary, as the normal players seem to be physical enough in how they play.

Head Coach: Kyle Smart (Career Record: W: 36- D: 39- L: 32) - After two WCH's, Smart (a cousin to World Bowl coach Ryan Smart) has more than proven himself after leading the Tide to their best finish in the Cup of Hockey, with a 7-1-2 record in qualifiers only falling in the playoffs to the eventual champions (Plutoni) in the quarterfinals after knocking out Sarzonia in WCH XII, and after making it to the second round before losing to eventual champions Kelssek in WCH XIII. Smart's approach of balancing finesse-offense and brute Allamunnic strength has done good things for the team, and the rough and tumble defense he espouses doesn't hurt their ability to play against the best.

1st Line - Balanced

LW#03 Skaade Saen-Vaalhulm (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 156lbs; Age: 21) - Skaade has taken her place at the head of the team with the rest of her recruiting wave (Braannur and Maarks), and made for a fully Skraeling starting line. Skaade, like Maarks, has a surprising propensity for roughness and physical play. She's about as likely to score as any of the starters, and is certainly quite competent at setting up plays for other players and giving the opportunity to cherry-pick goals. Saen-Vaalhulm is a fixture on the power-play, as a general rule.

C#22 Theodur Braannur (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 255lbs; Age: 21) - Braannur was one of the more pleasant surprises that the team found when they first started looking around to recruit players. Braannur's natural talent, both in skating and stick-handling (as well as passing and shooting) made him an attractive enough prospect. Add to that good size, a knack for physical play classic of Allamunnic players, and an unusual degree of maneuverability, and you've got a dangerous player. Of course, add to that a knack for play-making, and you've got an even more dangerous player. Then, pair him wiht Kristin, and you've got quite possibly the biggest hazard to your championship hopes. He contributes on the powerplay and is a noted penalty-killer.

RW#02 Kristin Maarks (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 141lbs; Age: 25) - Kristin is one of the most explosive players on the team and is a fast, accurate, and agile player. She’s got a surprising mean streak, and will team up with Theo Braannur for just about everything. Kristin has a nasty (for opposing defenses) tendency to find the net when it should be impossible. Add that to her being one of the smallest players with a propensity for fighting and a scrappy attitude on the ice, and you've got a handful to deal with, even without the other four players moving around. Maarks tends to stick around and goal-vulture during the powerplay, so watch out.

2nd Line - Rotating Players

LW#81 Zak Crist (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 262lbs; Age: 23) - Crist is a rising left-winger who's main job at the moment is to gain experience and occasionally give the starters a breather. Crist is, though, a newly-recruited player who the Tide should be able to keep on hand for some time to come. Crist's tendencies lean towards attack and set-up for other players. He's on the inexperienced side, and is a little prone to erratic play in high-stress situations. Zak is a safe option when it comes to penalty-killing, though he's the most likely to come out; they can manage without a left-winger for a little bit.

C#88 Dann Rikken (Height: 5'10"; Weight: 244lbs; Age: 20) - Rikken is another newly-recruited player. He is possessed of some rather good scoring abilities, and is a good shooter, and is plenty good at setting up plays for other players. Rikken is also, alas, inexperienced. His mix of power and finesse, though, and his heavy amount of natural talent makes him a good player to keep around, especially if he matures and keeps up his talent and intensity.

RW#85 Haanryk Dercyk (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 258lbs; Age: 36) - Deryck is, by far, the most experienced part of the second line. He has a knack for finding the goal, can play quite physically, has plenty of break-away capability, and passes quite precisely. His shots can snap past most goalies without too much problem, and he has the Allamunnic team spirit flowing through him; he's more than capable of sitting back and taking a supporting role to the others, if necessary. Dercyk's presence will be felt when it comes time to penalty-kill.

3rd Line - Reserve Line

LW#35 Leopold Oakes (Height: 6'3"; Weight: 268lbs; Age: 28) - Oakes is an AHL veteran who's decided to take his skills to the national team full-time. He's a solid, reliable, and flexible player who can be plugged in at any time to keep things moving and functioning properly. That said, don't expect any fireworks, either in fisticuffs or scoring from this disciplined supporting-player.

C#00 Annaka Larsson (Height: 5'6"; Weight: 160lbs; Age: 17) - Annaka seems to have all of Theo's explosive tendencies, but little of his size. Instead, she seems to have made up for it with some ridiculous speed and a nearly-terrifying scoring ability. Unfortunately, she's a little on the inexperienced side, having just come out of high school. Therefore, she'll be playing a reservist's role unless the competition is truely laughable or injuries start to cripple the team. Of course, sometimes they might take advantage of powerplays to stick her into the line and see what she can do.

RW#51 Benjamin Steinfeld (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 251lbs; Age: 24) - Steinfeld is a player who had been unemployed for almost a year when the call went out from the team for reserve players. Having survived the cuts, Steinfeld has endeared himself to coaches with his work-ethic rather than his more-or-less average talent level. Steinfeld is an obvious reservist who can be counted on to come in and play his position well (although he's a little more defensively-inclined), or at least well-enough that glaring problems won't show up.

Defensemen

First Pairing

RD#66 Haanryk Grimmur (Height: 6’1”; Weight: 295 lbs; Age: 26) – Grimmur is probably the single most violent and undisciplined defenseman that the Tide still has, which means that, rough-and-tumble as he is, and as fight-prone as he may be, they can probably start worrying about other things now. Though he'll sometimes drop the gloves, Grimmur is, on the whole, much more disciplined than his former partner on the Iron Tide, Artie Weiss. Grimmur plays some airtight defense, to boot, even if he is a little lacking in the maneuverability department. What on earth would have made you think this guy wasn't a penalty-killer?

LD#55 Joe Quinn (Height: 6’0”; Weight: 274 lbs; Age: 25) – Who’s this guy? Only an excellent defenseman. Joe Quinn, in addition to being a very good defensive player, with good instincts, good speed, good size, and discipline is also a good shooter and can turn a turnover into a score for the Tide. Look out for this kid, or he'll make you pay, especially now that he's got the starting job with Artie Weiss' departure. Don't be surprised to see Quinn on the ice during powerplays or when it comes time to penalty-kill.

Second Pairing:

RD#18 Joe Willems (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 212lbs; Age: 26) - Joe is a competent player, and a good, reliable, stabilizing defender. Joe is noted for playing his responsibilities closely and conscientiously, and moreover doing it well. That said, Willems lacks that certain spark that some of the other players have.

LD#95 Thomas McKnight (Height: 6’0”; Weight: 274 lbs; Age: 24) – Last year, Thomas McKnight saw most of his limited action at center. However, with the team's needs at defenseman increasing, the powerful, versatile young man has moved to left defenseman, and provides a bit of flexibility to the defense; he's quite good at covering his defensive responsibilities, but still has the memory of playing center going for him, which means he's used to and capable of capitalizing on turnovers to make them into points, or at least harassing shots on goal. Due to his offensive experience, McKnight tends to come in during powerplays to help out.

Third Pairing:

RD#24 Sheila O'Connor (Height: 5'8"; Weight: 141lbs; Age: 25) - Sheila is a reliable defender, good at separating attackers from the puck by hook or by crook, and is more than willing to smack some heads to get it back and away from their own goal. Sheila is unlikely to be heavily penalized, and probably won't get too many goals, either. Perhaps a few assists.

LD#71 Hailey Kierkegaard (Height: 5'7"; Weight: 174lbs; Age: 18) - And then there's Hailey. Hailey seems to have all the makings of an excellent, athletic, finesse-geared defender, and she's smart enough to not let anyone fool her or distract her from playing her responsibilities well. That said, Hailey's also on the inexperienced side, and has yet to fully adjust, stamina-wise and mind-set-wise to high- and international-level play, so she's stuck in a reserve spot while she develops.

Goalkeepers

GK#07 Aandrik Stok (Height: 6'1"; Weight: 241lbs; Age: 25) - Aandrik is a crazily-athletic goalie who specializes in making spectacular and efficient saves. He has great stamina, and since the split with the AHL, Stok has assumed the starting goalie's duties. Stok and Galloway alternate starts, but there's no doubt in any observer's mind which is the more efficient of the two.

GK#09 Felix Galloway (Height: 6'0"; Weight: 235lbs; Age: 27) - Felix is a goalie brought in due to the earlier-than-expected split between the AHL and the personnel of the national team. Felix is probably the lesser of the two goalies, but he's not too shabby a player himself. Either way, the Tide will have someone they can count on in-net.
