Quodites off to good start in slalom, giant slalom, longest name categories

Two time Olympic medalist Li Peng Xiu won the slalom at Brockyrodge Basnips, Virabbleton, thanks to posting the fastest run of the day on a challenging course. Teammate Sabine Fisher led after the first run, but was beaten to second by Xiu's excellent second time. "It's great to be here in Brickriddle Batton," said Xiu after the race. Elsewhere in Varbaria, the Asses giant slalom course saw Quodite men take three of the top four spots, including a win for Joseph Bengtsson, and the women three of the top ten with Katri Laitinen competing the double for an impressive start.

Quintessence of Dust now lead the team rankings, and the Quodite Ski Federation was also pleased to announce that Björk Mæja Kjartansdóttir is expected to easily win the longest participant name category. "Right now, every win our skiers get gives us hope," said team spokesperson Wilhelm Biber. "However, most of all we are just enjoying trying out these foreign slopes, getting to know new people, and ruthlessly promoting our country's crushingly bleak mixture of socially intrusive welfarism and rank neoliberalism. And waving flags."

However, with controversy growing over a possible failure of the Department of Sport to fund an Olympic alpine ski team, Han Chung warned against complacency. "My congratulations to those Quodite skiers who've represented their countries well so far. But let's not rest easy now! This kind of cup is a marathon, not a sprint, and they will need to be prepared for leaner times to come." The noted dispensation of Quodite athletes for dramatically choking has also been noted as a concern by some. "It's a worry," said Hanna Brown (nee van Himpfelschnoorrddt), who won numerous awards for longest name during her football career before tragically marrying childhood sweetheart John Brown

Vulshainian Skiiers Struggling

The skiiers from Vulshain, while making some progress, are still struggling to get into the top rankings. "It's very difficult, but I hope we make it," said Tekla Angelina who got 19th place in the Slalom event. As of right now, Vulshain is overall in eleventh place. The skiiers are doing their best, but let's hope they can still keep on improving.

(OOC: Liventia are listed with 64 Nations Cup points, but Kevin King has 2 points and Lilian Barrett 58 points, which should total 60.)

Paralympians making waves (avalanches?) on World Cup circuit

Breckridge Basin, VIRABIA— Liventia's two Paralympians currently competing on the able-bodied alpine skiing World Cup circuit have found the going fairly difficult, but recent good performances have started to make waves – or should that be avalanches.

Liliane Barrett, Liventia's female competitor on the circuit, finished the recent Winter Paralympics in Neverend with three bronzes, and to date has had the better performances of the two, with male counterpart Kevin King – Paralympic champion in the Super-G sitting competition – having struggled against vastly more experienced able-bodied competitors. Barrett, on the other hand, has shown no sign of being daunted by her rivals – perhaps a side-effect of having had to watch Ariddian superstar La Little claim two golds and a silver from Barrett's three Paralympic races – and finished yesterday's slalom event in an impressive 12th place, enough to claim 22 World Cup points.

Barrett, who finished 11th in a Super-G race in Greschmeier, Quintessence of Dust earlier in the season good for 24 points, now has 58 points, a whopping 97 percent of Liventia's Nations Cup points total. King, on the other hand, has contributed just two points to that total, thanks to a 29th-placed finish at the same event at which Barrett scored her 11th place finish. However, King is not complaining.

"Whenever someone reminds me of the standings what I tell them, and tell myself, is that I'm not supposed to be here. I've got a motor disability in my legs. But here I am on a sitski, competing amongst the best able-bodied athletes, and I've managed to score World Cup points. That is plenty of satisfaction for me. I don't ask for too much; I've already got a Paralympic gold medal. What I tell people is to stop wasting their time trying to get me down and instead try to focus that effort on supporting disabled sport."

The Vonghurst Star
Virabia cruisin' for a brusin' come Olympic Time

BRECKRIDGE - Back when the world cup circuit was first announced, it was hailed as a big milestone for the sport of Alpine Skiing across the world. At long last, there would be a major international competition that didn't happen every 12 years. Not only would it serve to fill the hole in our hearts (don't even deny that you have it) that only top tier ski competitions can fill but, we would also gain a preview of sorts of what to expect from the olympic field. Granted, the field in the world cup is much, much smaller (only 14 nations) but, when we look at whose sending skiers, many of the elite nations are there.

So far, Virabi skiers have done rather well in this field. Yet, come the olympics, we will not find success. Sure, we have more men in the overall top ten than any other nation and Sócrates Reyes sits atop the super combined standings. Hell, even two of our women skiers are in the top and when you look at the overall performance of each nation in this competition, Virabia places third. A scant hundred or so points behind Kelssek. Yet, despite all of this, six or so months from now, when the winter athletes of the world converge in Ashton, Krytenia; Virabia will fail.

Many of you are probably thinking to yourselves, But how? You just said how we are one of the elite skiing nations of the world. Theres no way we're going to do bad. Or at least as bad as you say!

Well hypothetical person, to you I say, "Yes! I did just say that we are with out a doubt amongst the big names in skiing internationally."

However, we did not get there on the backs of one or two good performances, or just one or two strong skiers. The only reason we are in the position that we are in right now is that our skiers have been extremely consistent. We aren't the guys grabbing the gold or even the bronze. We're the eternal fourth place who always finishes fourth regardless of who finishes atop the podium, which is a good method for success in the longer tournaments. This only improves when you are able to often get more than just one or two of your skiers into the top ten (as our skiers have shown that they have been able to do).

This strategy, however, only works in longer events like the world cup. In the olympics, you only get one shot at gold and regardless if it's the fairest way to run things, it is run that way. Thus, you have to use that one chance to it's full potential. You have to milk it for all it's got. So far, we have not seen that in the ASWC. On paper our skiers are every bit as good as Jean-Luc Lacroix or Wilhelm Biber but, they lack that extra bit of drive to improve their selves that tiny bit to put them over the top. It works here but, come Ashton, the only places that matter are gold, silver and bronze.

The Laufston Journal
The Beginning of a trend?

NORTHERN HILLSIDE - At long last, things seem to be falling into place. Sure, it's taken much longer than we thought and the turnaround may just be a one day ordeal but, it's still looking rather promising. At long last, Virabia may have begun to crack the top three and I can only hope that this is the beginning of a trend, and that Ted Tulow doesn't mess it up.

The most dramatic field in which Virabia has improved has, of course, been the mens slalom., Two weeks ago when Breckridge played host to this same competition, Virabi skiers did rather well by most standards. William Lyon and Austin Hall taking third and fourth respectively. For most nations this would be a strong showing but, for one which has self-coronated it self as the Sultan of Slalom, it was still rather disappointing. Today, the same two skiers were able to improve that little bit and instead of taking bronze and pewter, they took silver and bronze. Granted, some of it may just be that the course at Northern Hillside is just much easier but, as Hall told us after the race, "There becomes a point where your so good at a sport that; Difficulty is the excuse, not the obstacle."

The men also fared well in the super-g where Mickey Alva was only three skiers away from winning the competition when Martin Dreher beat out his time by only one millisecond. This was disappointing to Alva who was looking forward to taking home Virabia's best individual of the tournament and when we approached him for an interview after the race had been said and done for a while, Alva was still speechless.

Aside from Alva, Ted Tulow and Mark Wallace also had respectable showings finishing 9th and 13th respectively.

Not everything is roses for our ski team though. The ladies' continue to drag the overall team back especially when it comes to events like slalom, where only Carli Roanoke managed to finish today, and when she's the only one on your team that finishes, you know something is wrong. Luckily, they fared much better in the super-g. Serafina Perez, Sofi Porter and Lisa Smith all had good showings and placed within the top 15, and if this seed can be grown we could very well start to see our women start to get on the same train that our mens' team is currently headed down.

Posted on the In Brief section of the QBS wobsite. A legitimate concern!
ASWC popular in ratings, unpopular in DoS

The Alpine Skiing World Cup, which this week saw an exciting battle on Hossaim's Northern Hillside as Akbarabadi Toufiq Karim pipped four Quodite skiers to the slalom win, with Martin Dreher winning the men's super-G and Quodite women taking the number two spots in both slalom and super-G, has drawn favourable ratings on QBS through the month of January, according to internal numbers. The Schi Schunday show has beaten competition from the International Cup of Basking; "Robots At The Blue Line", QBS's coverage of the Plutonian Hockey League; and hour upon hour of footage of WBC delegates debating proper comma use to be the #1 ranked sports show on national television.

However, the Cup is not proving so popular with Department of Sports administrators scrambling to submit a team roster in time for the Ashton Games. A year ago, the Sixth Winter Olympics was the nation's top sporting priority, but many within the Department now fear Wilhelm Biber and others will be unable to attend the Olympics, having booked to compete in World Cup races throughout the coming months. A similar concern, given the inexplicable timing of the latest World Cup of Hockey, will rear its head among ice hockey fans, meaning there could be some tough choices ahead - and a subpar Olympic team on its way to Krytenia.

OOC: As I've noted, those dates in mid-February are subject to change and probably will be pushed back as I will likely be away during that time. So it's probably safe to send people along to the Olympics even if they are incapable of transcending space and time...

(OOC: Arrgh, sorry, just forget about the corrections as there have been other glitches, at this point I'm fine leaving it as is, since fixing them would actually give me too many in women's downhill (Ariadne Dromm should not have entered it but has, and is doing well there, so might as well leave her in.) Meanwhile Tyler Wills should have entered the slalom but hasn't, again, it's not important and at this point we should just leave everything as is I think.)

The Kerlagrad Courier
Literal, figurative handwaving poorly received

With Ferris Alkaev winning the most recent giant slalom race and Ariadne Dromm and Dolores Ribey the top two women in the standings, Zwangzug's performance at the World Cup of Alpine Skiing is going well. But after reports from Quintessence of Dust about potential conflicts between the ongoing tournament and the forthcoming Winter Olympics, skiers from Zwangzug were interviewed about the scheduling issue. Dromm's answer, delivered between vague flicks of the wrist, was less than encouraging.

"Uh...no," she said. "No, we're gonna compete. Some of us, anyway. Because it won't be until...I mean, we won't already...

There's...time...stuff!" she concluded, amid hand-flapping.

When pressed on whether previous cyclists and baseball teams hadn't set a contradictory precedent about the limitations on the malleability of "time stuff", she mulled it over for a while before noting that, "like, just because some other people from Zwangzug did something doesn't mean we have to do it the same way, we're not crazy nationalists or whatever.

Besides," she pointed out, "they're summer sports, so that's not really the same.

Kelssek are sending people to both! And Delaclava! And one of them is Lacroix, who also like has time to run for president!" she gesticulated.

When asked whether, if Jean-Luc Lacroix jumped off a cliff, she would too, she weighed it over before deciding "If by cliff, you mean snowy mountain, and by jump off, you mean take off on, then yeah, maybe."

The article prompting the speculation also discussed the potential for conflict with the next World Cup of Ice Hockey (which Zwangzug has never entered). "I'm not concerned," said Dromm, appearing to brush away an invisible bug. "From what I've heard of how the last Olympics went, it wouldn't be a problem I'd Quintessence of Dust couldn't send their best team.

Actually, from what I've heard of the last Olympics, I think it would be totally fine if Zwangzug didn't send any teams at all.

Look," she exclaimed, punching the air, "we're bleeping handi...it's bleeping enough of a disadvantage already, the time is constraining us, we have to turn in our roster before the bleeping home meet!

You just know it'll all end poorly anyway," she finally sighed. "At least give us a chance."

Talked to Tom Jeffries, one of the coaches for the national team squad, and we had an interesting chat about training methods. He revealed that he was reconsidering some of his training programs after chatting with one of the Zwangzug team coaches in a bar. Apparently, they don't have their skiers jump off cliffs. It's a novel concept, and one that could reduce the rate of injury. He's concerned skiers' jump technique might become poorer, but then again downhillers are just psychotic adrenaline junkies anyway and will go off cliffs even if they aren't supposed to. Hell, most of the kids you see on the hills seek out the bloody things. Myself included, actually, though I tend to prefer ones without trees on the bottom waiting to kill you.

And there's another exciting day of downhill racing tomorrow. Isn't it astounding what fabulously good luck we've been having with weather on the World Cup circuit so far? Not a single race delayed or cancelled yet. Of course, this is probably jinxing it but when I skied competitively it seemed every other race was being put off due to too little snow, too much snow, extreme wind, it being impossible to see past your outstretched elbow, etc.

The Portsham Tribune
A Day in the Life: Mark Wallace

NORTHERN HILLSIDE - Welcome to 'A Day in the Life', my new twice or once weekly column where I will follow around someone either slightly famous or just plain famous. I will follow them around for a day, then, naturally, I will report on their day. There are little guidelines and I will leave out nothing, regardless if it makes the subject look bad. Ultimately, all of the editorial decisions will be up to me and I famously hold no punches when it comes to journalism.

Naturally, owing to my background as a sports journalist, many of these figures will be those in the world of sport. However, I will do my utmost to add in some variety. Politicians, musicians, actors and the like. Today, though, I stick with an athlete. Olympic skier Mark Wallace, who is currently competing in the Alpine Skiing World Cup. So far he has done quite well, and after the most recent races he is in fourth place of all the men. I followed him on the day of the super-g race.

Oh and why Mark Wallace, and not some one more famous like Ted Tulow? Because he's my brother. THATS WHY.

So enjoy what has to be the most informal version of this!

I started my day of trailing Mark rather early. We were both pinned up in the same hotel and I hadn't known until just that previous night that we were in rooms right next to each other. So, at around 7:30 I knocked on the (much underused) side door in the hopes that Mark was up. To my surprise, he wasn't. His roommate, fellow skier Sócrates Reyes was though. From some brief small talk, it had looked like Mark was up rather late partying and that Sócrates had to literally drag him out of the bar at 3:00. I sighed. Mark had always lacked discipline but, I never remembered it being this bad.

Sócrates' and mine conversation diddn't last too long, however. Soon enough (once one of us looked over to Mark), we decided that it was high time Mark got up. He had to be out to the slopes in less than three hours if he wanted to be on time for the race itself. So, lest we wanted him to sleep indefinately, we (Sócrates and I) began the arduous task of waking Mark up. I tell you, he's always slept like a log. Armageddon could happen and he wouldn't even move.

Eventually, after a few minutes of yelling, kicking, screaming and pushing like a pair of seven year olds, Sócrates and I were to finally able to wake Mark up. He awoke slightly confused as to his surroundings. In his drunken stupor of the night before, Mark (like most drunks) forgot the final few hours of himself being awake. He had no clue how he had gotten back to the hotel room but, once we filled in the blanks for him, in a minute or two he was able to catch his barring. Everything was normal for Mark. Except for Mark having "the worst hangover in my life" But, what do you expect when you down 20 brewskis in one night.

Luckily or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, Mark is rather accustomed to downing an obscene amount of drinks in a night. He is no stranger to these hangovers so he gets over the worst part of it in an hour and a half. It's one of the worst 1.5 hours though. The three of us; Sócrates, Mark and I tried to go to get breakfast but, Mark was in no mood to eat or talk in any pleasant manner. So, he ended up waiting in the car while Sócrates and I ate in a small café in the middle of town. There he told me a few things about Mark that I, even as his sister didn't know.

Despite him not looking it, Mark is apparently one troubled soul. Drinking heavily is actually just the tip of the iceberg. His marriage is in shambles, his wife only hanging on because she doesn't want to go through the complications of divorce. Sócrates also told me that he is rather abusive to her. Mostly using her for sex and that often she has to cover for his endless drug habits. Even with our lax drug laws, Mark finds a way to break just about every single drug law in countries that he visits for sking. Not only has he smuggled LSD (a drug which enjoys the status of legality in Virabia) into numerous foreign countries but, he also has smuggled cocaine and other hard drugs into various countries, including Virabia.

Overall it was a very unpleasant conversation. For years, I looked up to my older brother. Sure, he's had his fair share of problems but, he never struck me as the type of person so desperate as to smuggle heroin to every place he's ever been too. It's a lifestyle that will kill him way before he's supposed to go. The thing that kills me though, is that due to my editorial policy where I keep everything, this article will likely end up incriminating him. A heavy burden for anyone to carry, especially when I'm his sister.

Anyway, back on the subject of this article, after breakfast, Mark and I started to go to the resort where today's race was going to be held. His hangover was begining to go away, though, so it didn't take long for Mark to demand that we stopped at a place that has tea. Seeing as there was no reason not to, I obliged and pulled over at the first coffee shop that we found.

When we finally made it to the resort, we were only three minutes away from being late and thus forcing a forfeiture. Like almost every other event throughout the World Cup Circuit, the resort and the towns around it were clogged with people who were in town for the sole reason of watching the world cup. Luckily, the majority of those people were gathered right near the bottom, where today's Giant Slalom course would finish, so, aside from right there, it was pretty easy.

When we got out of the car, a representative of the tournament's organisers came out to greet us. He told Mark to go to the race registrars office and there he'd sign in for the day as well as be directed to where the rest of his team was. Initially they refused to let me follow him as the area where Mark was going was supposed to be for racers only but, after a bit of fumbling around for my press pass and explaining nearly five times that I was A) on assignment to follow him for the day and that B) I'm his sister they finally let me through.

The time at the race registrars office was rather uneventful. He signed in and was handed his number for the day. 22. He shrugged and slipped it into a pouch in his bag. The real drama began when he got to where the rest of the team was. When he got to the area where the rest of the team was dressing, a few members of the team, Mickey Alva in particular, scowled at him. It appears his habits make him somewhat unpopular with the rest of the team, who for the most part are a bunch of golden guys and gals. Fortunately, no one said much to him so there were no fights. Fights which would have probably been made worse because of Marks foul mood.

For those who don't know or pay attention to these kind of things, the number which a skier wears dictates which order he or she goes in from the end of the competition. So in Mark's case, he was going to go twenty-two skiers from the end. Why his low placement? Well, the order was determined at seven in the morning. At that point he was still asleep, so instead of being the fourth or fifth person to determine where he went, the coach of the Virabi ski team, Grant Paulinski chose for him. Much like the rest of the ski team, Grant harbours a negative opinion of Mark. He's said numerous times that Mark would easily be the best skier in the world if he only applied himself. Remember, this is someone who went to the last Olympics in Sao Jorge at only age fifteen.

(Correctly) Sensing that waiting in the dressing room would be rather uneventful, I went out side towards the people amassed to watch the final few skiers of the women's race. Sure, I wasn't being faithful to the idea of this column but, I figured that if I hung around Mark for much longer, I'd go insane. Outside, I witnessed a threeway battle between the three Quodite skiers who would wind up taking the top three. Each of them were favoured somewhat equally to take the event and they all went in pretty close order. Michelle Eckoff wound up taking the day and soon enough it was the mens' turn out on the course.

It would be a while before Mark would get his turn on the slopes but, once he did, he reminded us all what a good skier he is. Even though the GS has never been his strong suit, he still performed quite well. Skiing with a grace that you just cant find anywhere else. It's real beautiful. Makes you almost forget about all of the mans shortcomings. His home is on the slopes and when one watches him, that fact becomes very obvious. If Sisyphus' punishment were adapted to skiing down an endless slope, Mark would be in heaven.

Still, despite his graceful form, Mark only finished twelfth. His second run costed him big time and when we met up after the race he expressed some rage at his performance. It wasn't anything that bad and we soon packed up the car and began on our way back to the hotel. There, he was supposed to attend a dinner with the team but, knowing what the team (aside from Reyes) thinks of him, his choice was pretty clear. He wouldn't be going. Instead, like most nights, his plan was to go to the bars and clubs and drink away the night. He offered to stop by the hotel and drop me off but, this night, I was in the mood for some excitement.

___

Just as a note, this is slightly more informal than future editions of the column will be. This owes itself to the fact that Mark is my brother and that Sócrates is our cousin, so there is that level of familiarity that with other people I wouldn't get. Either way, I hope you enjoyed it none the less and look forward to Monday, when will publish my day with Union Team manager/player and recent newsmaker Paul McCartney.

Vulshain Still Behind

Things aren't looking good for Vulshain's skiiers as they continue to struggle to compete with the other skiiers. "It's a tough and uphill battle. We've all practiced real hard, but to tell you the truth, I have no idea what we're doing wrong," Lyuba Natalka said. Both she and Tekla Angelina did not qualify during the Women's Giant slalom event held in Northern Hillside, Hossaim. Faddei Varnava also didn't qualify during the Men's Giant Slalom event.

Vulshain is struggling and is in desperate need of a miracle in order to pull through.

The Vonghurst Star
Continued Failures

ASANTHUL - The second day in Hossaim was thought to be somewhat of a one time occurrence. The giant slalom is one of Virabia's weaker events so, it was passed off with a turn of the cheek. However, as the ASWC moved to it's first stop in Bergnovinaia, things have unfortunately not improved. The downhill is supposed to be one of Virabia's strongest event but, today in Asanthul, Virabi skiers struggled to make even a fair sized dent in the top ten.

The best finish of the day for us was Ted Tulow. He once again drew the short straw and had to go first. A fact which made him rather displeased. "One time it's ok. Even twice, it's cool. Three times though. That's nuts", he told an amalgamation of reporters today on the fact that he once again has had to go first, which, in the downhill is perhaps the worst time to go.

Sure, we've all heard Ted's rants on how going first deprives you of the drive to go all out to beat the current leader but, as some of you reading may or may not know, before any ski race worth a damn, the course is iced down. This is in order to provide each of the racers an even course and in theory should provide each racer a fair shot at the prize. In reality, though, the first run on the course is always going to be the slickest. Especially on days where snow is falling (like it was in Asanthul). Thus, you often have to ski a little more on the cautious side as there is a higher probability for a crash.

Or perhaps the last paragraph is bullshit and people like Ted Tulow who eternally go first are just complaining in the hopes that people will give them sympathy. Perhaps a combination of the two.

The rest of Virabia's skiers faired even worse, though. Abe Hayes finished eleventh and Mark Robinson only was able to achieve a tie for thirteenth. The real disappointment though was the 38th place finish of Mark Wallace, whom has been recently marred by scandal. His heavy drinking and otherwise scandal marred life (that we only learned about from the Portsham Tribune article where none other but his sister followed him around for the day), seems to have caught up with him. Downhill has traditionally been his strongest event but, today he looked downright atrocious out there. His form lacked the grace it usually has, and throughout much of the run it looked like he was going to crash. He pulled through but, he finished 38th. Way outside of the range that he would earn any points.

When asked for an interview after the race, he simply shoved some of the reporters out of the way and with his skis clutched in his hand he quickly walked away from the group of people.

Wallace's story has been somewhat of a shock. He'd commonly been thought of as a person who was a bit above falling to the temptations that he has. This story, which has quickly shot to the top of the countries attention will be the subject of an article tomorrow. We will delve into the issue and hopefully uncover some insight as to why he's done the things he's done. Until then, we'll keep you posted!

The Vonghurst Star
Interview with Mark Wallace

JUANITA - In the past two weeks, no one person has been talked about more than skier Mark Wallace. From the publication of Jasi Wallace's pseudo-exposé on his drug habits and how he treats his wife, the media has been covering his story nearly non-stop. The series of tubes known as the internet has, in particular, moved the story forward. Nearly every journalist in the country and even some beyond it's boarders have worked tirelessly to dig up any new information they can. Today, though, I go to Mark himself in search of answers. I knew there was little chance that he would accept an interview with anyone. So far, he has denied every request sent his way but, for some reason, I did not suffer this fate. So, with out further ado; my interview with Mark Wallace. (This happened at his hotel room after today's races in Juanita, Bergnovinaia)

Q: So, as I'm sure you know, you are currently the man of the hour in Virabia. Granted, this probably not the reason you wanted to get this kind of attention but, how has this affected your performance?

A: Contrary to what you may think, it's helped it out. Big time. Sure, the first race afterwards in Asanthul, I suffered but, overall it's improved things.

Q: Why is that?

A: Now, everyone's watching me. I can't drink, shoot, pop, snort or do anything that would resemble getting high. Since the story broke, I haven't been able to return to any of my old vices. So now my mind's clear. Now, I'm finally skiing to the fullest of my ability.

Q: You said that you haven't done any drugs since the story broke, Does this mean you'll probably quit?

A: No. I'll never quit. Once you go down the yellow brick road, ain't any going back. Sure you may quit for a week, a month, a year, ten years but, at some point you give up. At some point your fortitude runs out. Think of it like a timer. For everyone it will hit zero. For some, it's when you're alive, for others, it's when you've died. And it doesn't matter how many rehab programs you do, they just add a bit of time but, for everyone, it will hit zero.

Q: Speaking of rehab, what have you done to, as you've said, extend the timer. Also, if you don't mind, could you detail how you've been affected by withdrawl?

A: I've quit each cold turkey. As for withdrawal symptoms. Those have been especially bad. I've honestly felt no greater pain in my life but, it's unavoidable.

Q: Why haven't you tried to go to a rehab program?

A: If I try to re-enter Virabia, I'll be arrested on the spot. Normally, that wouldn't be bad but I'm not just a domestic criminal. I'm wanted in quite a few countries for drug smuggling, so I'll be tried there as well and I'll have to spend a good amount of my time behind bars. So, honestly, cold turkey is the only way I can quit. It's going to be hard. Real hard but, it's all I can do.

Q: Are any of the countries you're wanted in on the schedule for the ASWC?

A: Fortunately, no. That being said, they may have extradition treaties with the countries I am wanted in. So, there is an extremely good chance I won't be able to finish out the World Cup. I have my fingers crossed though.

Q: Ok, for a moment, lets change the subject to the allegations that along with drugs you have been rather abusive towards your wife. What do you have to say on these matters?

A: I'd just like to say that I'm real sorry. I know it's little consolation for all the harm I've done to her. I know that she will never forgive me. She gave me her heart, her love and I just crushed it, like one would an ant. It's something I will regret for the rest of my life. We've been together in some form since we were twelve. We were soul mates there ever were one. Yet, in my blindness, I abused her. Forgetting that she had feelings too.

Q: On the subject of apologies, in her most recent column, the one on Paul McCartney, Jasi Wallace apologised for all the grief she caused you? What is your response to that?

A: I know that she was just doing her job and in the long run she probably helped me out. If she hadn't brought my situation to the national spotlight like she did, I would have never begun the process of falling out of my old habits. That being said, she did pretty much ruin my life. I can no longer go back to my home country. I am the punching bag of every late night comedian. No one at the Ski Council or the Olympic High Council would dare consider put me on a roster ever again. My wife, who was only a thread away from leaving me, has left me forever. Bringing my kid with her. So many aspects of my life and my career, forever gone. In so many eyes, I will never be redeemed. Granted, considering all that I've done, all that I've harmed I deserve everything that will happen to me and perhaps even more.

That being said, I do want to warn my sister of one thing. Whether she thinks it or not, she got some sort of rush after all the attention given to her in the wake of her story on me. People will now expect her to make these kind of revelations on a regular basis, and she will. Chasing the rush she felt after the first time. That rush is much like anything a drug could give you. Soon, she'll be addicted. Chasing any opportunity to expose the dirty side of peoples existence. Sure, in some cases like mine, it is warranted but, eventually that well will dry up. Soon she'll have to start attacking otherwise good people over small flaws. Sure, this may not happen but, I've seen it transpire. Good people who've turned corrupt. I just hope she doesn't fall victim to it.

Q: So, on that thread of turning corrupt. When did you first try hard drugs like heroin?

A: It was when I was in Sao Jorge. I was asked to attend some party that some of the athletes from various nations were going to. In my naivety, I did. There, some guy offered me heroin. I didn't know what it was at the time, nor did he tell me. He actually said that it would ease the pain from competition. So, blindly and stupidly, I tried it. Worse mistake of my life but from then on, I was hooked.

Q: Before then, had you ever done drugs?

A: Nope. I was notoriously straight edge. My mom's father had a history of alcohol abuse and she told me stories of what it did to him. Made me swear that I'd never try those things and for years, I had no particular desire to. I knew they'd ruin my skiing. Yet, at that one party; I did. At that one party, I made the subconscious decision to abandon all I had in pursuit of the quick high. Who knows where I'd be if I didn't do all of that stuff. I just wish that I had never gone to it.

Q: So, you mention Sao Jorge. Which brings me to my next topic; that is the announcement by the VOHC that you were to be excluded from the olympic roster for the games in Ashton. How does this make you feel?

A: I certainly don't like being excluded from the roster but, I know why they did it and I don't blame them.

Q: One final question. How do you foresee the rest of your world campaign going? What will you try to accomplish?

A: As I've mentioned before, this is the last event I will ever ski in my career. So, I will go all out. Do the best I can, ski like I have nothing to lose because, I actually do have nothing to lose. Perhaps, I exaggerate a little bit when I say that my career is completely over but, the way it looks now, I won't be skiing for competition any time soon.

Thanks for the kind words, all. :) Unfortunately, there are risks with this RPing style that aren't as problematic in other styles...

...fortunately, I can RP my mistakes off.
