Postby Delaclava » Mon Jan 03, 2011 2:02 pm

INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 7

Welcome to the seventh edition of the International Basketball Championships, hosted by Delaclava! The first five were hosted by Dancougar before a disaster that brought the end of that nation (but not the large mass of Dancougarian interns that plague logistics and organization everywhere). The sixth was held by Secristan, and just when the world assumed that the IBC belonged to Secristan, that nation soon feel from the face of the earth as well. Now Delaclava has stepped in to host the next edition of the world's premier basketball tournament. Hopefully our citizens meet a better end that the Dancougarians and Secristani did.

With a set number of nations, we now have a set format! There will be eight groups of five. The groups will be drawn from five pots of eight teams each, based on Quintessence of Dust's post-IBC6 rankings. Each team will play each other twice: once at home, once away from home - so feel free to whip out your best stadiums for this stage.

At the end of the first group stage, the two best from each group will move on to the Final Group Stage, while the bottom three from each group will compete in the Best of the Rest tournament. The Best of the Rest stage will consist of four groups of six. Each team will play their groupmates once, in Delaclava. At the end of those games, the 1st placed teams in the BOTR groups will play a single-elimination knockout for 17th-20th place; the 2nd placed teams, 21st-24th; 3rd, 25th-28th; 4th, 29th-32nd; 5th, 33rd-36th; 6th, 37th-40th.

The Final Group Stage will consist of two groups of eight. Each team will play their groupmates once, in Delaclava. At the end of those games, the 3rd-placed teams will play one game for fifth place; the 4th-placed teams, seventh; 5th, ninth; 6th, 11th; 7th, 13th; and 8th, 15th. The first-placed team from Group A will face the second-placed team from Group B, and the first-placed team from Group B will face the second-placed team from Group A in best-of-three playoffs. The losers of the series will play a best-of-three third-place playoff, and the winners of the series will play a best-of-five championship round.

Delaclav stadiums will be released shortly before the phases of the competition played in Delaclava.

I want to emphasize roleplay in this tournament, so RP will be graded heavily to reward active participants. RP will be cumulative and will not degrade over time. It will be graded based on general quality and respect for other roleplayers. I can't really set specifics for how I'm grading, considering everyone RPs very differently.

xkoranate 0.3.0 will be used to scorinate each night at about 9:00 EST. Off days are planned halfway through the first group stage, at the end of the group stage, after the BOTR group stage for those teams, and after the Final Group Stage for those teams.

At any stage of the competition, tiebreakers after wins will be: Overall point differential, H2H results, H2H point differential. If breaking the tie determines who advances into the next round of the competition, and two teams are still tied on these criteria, they will play a one-game playoff; if three or more teams are still tied on these criteria, the tied teams will play a single round robin. If tiebreaking only affects seeding (i.e. for drawing the Final and BOTR groups or for determining participants in non-semifinal classification rounds), then random.org List Randomizer will be used to determine the order of tied teams.

Get RPing, get creative and have fun!

IBC 7: Cosumar Dragons Roster and Information

Basic Information

The CBA (cosumar basketball association) for decades has been Cosumar's premiere professional basketball league. The CBA consists of 32 teams from Cosumar's largest cities. Every year these 32 teams duke it out for 16 playoff spots. Every year the CBA sends whichever team wins the National Title to an international tourney. For five years running that team has been the Kaldukosk Krushers. Kaldukosk is Cosumar's most populous city and is the nation's unofficial sporting capital. The Krushers tear up the CBA and usually fare well internationally. After the 2009 season, the team won the Churchma Basketball Tournament. Hopefully, the Krushers will represent Cosumar well ocne again as they did in the IBC 6. For this tournament the Kaldukosk Krushers have become the Cosumar Dragons in hope of bringing glory to their home country in the 7th edition of the IBC. The roster is as follows.

Basketball is not very popular in Quintessence of Dust. There is no organized competition between professional teams or universities, and past IBC teams were stocked with dwarves, a rhinocerus in heat, and hyperintelligent tree shrews (IV), the nation's best sportswoman and tallest man, neither of whom had ever played the sport before (V), and a bunch of chain-smoking trade unionists (VI). Despite all this, the international team has been pretty successful, reaching the playoffs each time and, in IBCV, coming within one game of the semifinals. For the first team, some players from a previous IBC team are returning, as another all-trade union team has been assembled.

Basketball....- A fairly unknown sport in Western Cuba, there is no league and barely any college and high school teams. The sport was completely unknown due to Hockey, Soccer, and Baseball being the dominant sports of the country. It was like soccer in the USA completely unknown. However though Vladimir Makarov the Second decided to send the Vladgrad University Basketball to test the other nations in the world. Every game was suspected to be a blow out. However though it was worth a chance.....

Vladgrad University Basketball Roster

Coach Rodger Jefferson- Rodger has been the college's head coach the past few years. However though they don't have much experience. Only playing scrimmages across the countries against other big colleges. His record is 44-6. Coaching Vladgrad for 5 years.

Center #2 Nikolai Federer- Nikolai is a blue chip freshman from Portland High School. He averaged 15 PPG, 4 Steals per Game, and 5 Blocks per Game. He was a high school standout. He received a partial paid scholarship to Vladgrad U as Basketball isn't it's main concern.

Point Guard #54 Steve Randle- Steve is a walk off from also Portland University. He is now a Senior on the team and also the team captain. He averaged 27.3 PPG last year as a Junior.

Shooting Guard #92 Jesse Jackson- Probably the most surprising player on the team. Is a Sophomore who averaged a poor 4.3 PPG last year. Even though he started. However though he hopes to gain redemption in the IBL.

Small Forward #34- Maurice Morales- The only Junior that starts for the team. It is his first year starting for the team. Replacing star player Jerry Divac as he went international. This will be tough for young Maurice....if anyone is watching.

Power Forward #69 Dallas Sprint- Probably one of the most hardcore player ever to play the game. It's a surprise he was selected. Out of the 30 games he has played in he's been ejected from the guy a record 12 times, and has a record of 25 technical fouls in 30 games. (You can get as many Technical fouls in Western Cuba as you want to)
Now known as the Technological State of Adros, the successor state of Western Cuba

Basketball is almost an after-thought in Qazox. After Baseball, Football, GridIron, Lacrosse, Ice Hockey; Basketball is probably the 6th most popular sport in Qazox, though some think vetching might be 6th as well. At the IBC, Qazox has done ok, making the playoffs at IBC 6. But since then, the team has fallen into dis-repair and only 8 players even bothered to show up to try-outs. Luckily for us, those 8 know how to play, but as to how good they will play... we don't know. But if you are looking for an underdog in this tourney, Qazox is it.

QAZOX' Roster:
COACH: Greg Jordan
STARTERS
#14- Jack Beamon (PG) 5'9". Quick PG, good range and defense. Takes more shots than the coach would like from a PG.
#17- Diane Dobbs (SG) 5'10". 1st female on national team. Great defender, but horrible shooter. Isn't afraid to jaw with the big boys.
#28- Eric Assega (SF) 6'7". A reminder that just because you're tall, doesn't mean you're good. Poor shooter, but crashes the glass with disregard for his safety or others.
#19- Hiram Jones (PF) 6'8". Will most likely foul out every game. Shoots well and rebounds well, but has a vicious temper.
#27- Chad Veldt (C) 7'4". Blocking machine. Horrible at just about everything else, except dunks.

Bench:
#20- Tyrone Reese (G) 5'7". Smallest player on team. Would start, but is legally blind. Somehow can make 99 of 100 free-throws though.
#8- Brian DeSalvatore (F) 6'8". Only white guy on team. Does what every white guy does on a basketball team, shoots 3's well.
#10- Jasyon Gunn (C/F) 6'11". Will likely be main substitute off bench. Does everything well, but is limited by asthma to only 7-10 minutes a game.

Qazox will play all their home games at The Palace of New Bruxen within the New Bruxen Casino.

THE GARON-AVERIA BROWNCOATS

Background

In Garon-Averia, basketball is not a popular sport. Most professional games will pull in 7,000 fans, and most stadiums are not built for more than 10,000. However, larger stadiums like the Auctorias Arena in Aubanie, can hold up to 16,000 fans. There are sixteen professional teams in the Garon-Averia Basketball League (GABL) and they season lasts for 40 games, with a small tournament at the end. Most colleges and high schools have club teams instead of varsity teams. Because of this, not many players would try out for the national team, and most players are selected straight from the all-star rosters. The head coach was the recipient of the Sir Marshall Kontar award, and his assistant was the runner up.

Coaches

Head Coach: Ethan Combs, 44 yrs, from Aubanie
Assistant Coach: Leroy Michaels, 58 yrs, from Crestfall

Power Forward: Samuel Xioban, 23 yrs, 6' 11", from North District
Center: Jarad Miller, 29 yrs, 7' 3", from South District

Players on Bench
Point Guard: Garett Kazeal, 34 yrs, 6' 4", from Crestfall
Shooting Guard: Kevin Lowe, 30 yrs, 6' 6", from Charleston
Utility Guard: Howard Williams, 23 yrs, 6' 5", from Eske
Utility Forward: Anijong Lee, 28 yrs, 6' 9", from Katsukova
Utility Forward: Kalen Tretiak, 29 yrs, 7' 0", from Katuskova
Utility Forward: Issac Watson, 32 yrs, 6' 11", from Inwegia

Stadium Information
The Browncoats will play their games in the Auctorias Arena in Aubanie. This arena is home to the Aubanie Capitals (a hockey team) and the Aubanie Falcons (a basketball team). Because the arena is built for hockey and basketball, there are 14,000 permanent seats and another 2,000 additional seats that can be placed in case of a basketball game.

Group E looks Difficult, but the "G-Hawks" are up for the Challenge

In their first ever international basketball tournament, the Carasatogan national team is looking at a formidable group stage with Andossa se Mitrin Vega, Militaria1000, Meguroko and The 24 Islands also playing in Group E. During one of their practices, we caught up with the team to see how they think the tournament group stage is going to go.
Point guard Sean Taylor says, "We're pumped. We know it's going to be a challenge but it is our time to prove that the new kids on the block and compete with the old dogs."
Coach Grey was just as optimistic, "The last few weeks have been our best practices yet, and from what I see... we can win."
Fans from across Carasatoga are anticipating a show within the group stages, and basketball experts actually have high hopes for the team, ones they say, are appropriate. This has been TJ Brett, TVC Sports.

Head Coach Tecybe Dra'usto Age:49
Dra’usto, the most successful domestic coach in ASMV history, has been given the reigns and is working tirelessly to build a truly credible team for the moment and longtime championship threat for the future.

Asst Coach Faxisi Rad'rotii Age:41
Faxisi has been an assistant to Dra’usto for the past ten years and has come to be the trusted voice of reason when the Coach allows his emotions to run free - which is quite often.

Asst Coach Nileiq K'osust Age:28
Nileiq is new to the coaching game as just last season he was a starter on Errion Vega’s Ghost Cats Championship team. But a severe fall in the finals left the talented young point guard with a fractured neck that ended his career prematurely. Coach sees something in him - or he wouldn’t be on this staff.

Starters
Pos # Name Age Ht Wt

PG 20 Xyretu Tasaid'lii 30 6’4 185
Xyr, as his teammates call him, is a bit of an enigma. Capable of scoring at will, Xyr looks to other players to carry the scoring load - even to the point of absurdity. Will be challenged by youngster Jytih U’ankin for the starting position unless he learns when his team needs him to score.

SG 13 Xiduiq I'rayash 26 6’3 190
Xiduuiq is the ultimate example of a streak shooter. Electric when hot, he may be the key to Hoop Dragon chances in this tourney. No one else on this team has his range, which begins as he crosses mid-court.

SG 21 Worelyja Rilead'I 29 6’7 215
“Worry” is the nickname earned for actions on the days just prior to games. But there are no worries about how well “Worry” will perform. Averaging a triple double from the small forward spot domestically, he can - and probably will - make things tough for whomever is unfortunate enough to draw the assignment defensively.

PF 54 Bididagu Und'enda 25 6’9 245
Dagu is a powerhouse in the middle whose thunderous dunks shake the stadium and send defenders sprawling across the court. Fast enough to run with the guards, Dagu makes a dangerous trailer on the four man break.

C 15 Aenduenthi Pol'ighty 33 7’2 320
Even the offensive minded Hoop Dragons have a defensive specialist. Aendu os that man. A monster in the middle, Aendu is the reigning Vegan defensive player of the year with 249 blocks in 64 games. And defenders beware when you force the Hoop Dragons to set up in the half court, Aendu is the proverbial bull in the china shop.

Bench

PG 14 Jytih U'ankin 23 6’1 180
Young and quick, Jytih might be the better of the two point guards on this team. Only time will tell.

SG 11 Rokame Tiri’iri 28 6’6 225
More of a slasher than a pure shooter, Rokame gets to the rim quickly. Has enough game from mid-range to make defenders honor the threat,

SG 23 Arisuseru Poa’Teru 19 6’3 170
The high school phenom that everyone wants on their team. Can light it up from three. Experience at this level is the only question mark.

SF 31 Jogosi Ev’erelt 22 6’5 210
Another slasher type player who has struggled at times to find his place on any team. Perhaps his penchant for solid defending will help the Hoop Dragons.

PF 25 Mukymawu Mog’dish’aru 31 6’10 230
Mog has great range for a big man and creates nightmares for other power forwards who have to move out into space to guard him.

PF 51 Gesusani Murii-Hyu’utag 40 6’9 220
The Old man also known as The Hit Man. Intimidation works, and Gesusani is very good in that respect.

C 44 Cumirt Cu’yero 20 7’0 250
Another youngster capable of making some real noise. Hasn’t developed good balance at this point and still looks a bit clumsy at times.

Style: Offensive as it gets.
You can do anything short of killing off my players.

A few notes about today's scorination and onward:

1) Obviously, this cutoff was a bit late. I was aware that it would happen and did not properly inform you. I apologize for the inconvenience.
2) The 1 seeds in each group are not yet included in the tables. They will be when they play their first match tomorrow.
3) There was one match today that went to overtime. Although overtime is a part of the game and its points should be included in the tables, xkoranate does not do that. I have not manually added the overtime points yet, but I will do so at the end of the group stage.
4) Each team has association codes next to their nation name in the scores. If you'd like a different one, please let me know by TG, the discussion thread, or as a header or footnote in an RP (but not a standalone OOC post in this thread).

Despite not being by any means a basketballing nation, Qazox (QZX) is suprisingly ranked 6th in the world and earned a top seeding at IBC7. The good news is the #1 seeds get the first and sixth days off, so Head Coach Greg Jordan took the time to watch on IBC7.com the other 4 teams in the group as all of our opponents were in action.

The schedule seems a bit favorable, as only Bergonvinaia is ranked and the other 3 teams are newcomers. So Qazox potentially could finish rather well and earn a good playoff seed, but with just 8 players on the roster; will the team be able to seriously contend?

SCHEDULE:
MD1: OFF
MD2: v. Bergnovinaia
MD3: @ Stuffed Taxidermists
MD4: v. Draevok
MD5: @ D Land and Isles
MD6: OFF
MD7: @ Bergnovinaia
MD8: v. Stuffed Taxidermists
MD9: @ Draevok
MD10: v. D Land and Isles

In group One action, D Land and Isles dominated Bergonvinaia 81-68; and Stuffed Taxidermists knocked off Draevok in OT 88-87. Qazox will host Bergnovinaia at The Palace of New Bruxen within the New Bruxen Casino (capacity 16,789).
The early lines are as follows:
Pts O/U: 176.5
Qazox favored by: -5.5
# of fouls called on Qazox: O/U 18.5
Biggest lead of game: O/U 11.5

After the game and the press conference, Coach Combs was nice enough to sit down for an exclusive interview with The Aubanie Advance.
AA: Good game out there tonight, Coach.
EC: It wasn't me playing, it was the boys. Thank you, though.
AA: So how does it feel, coaching in an international tournament?
EC: Well, it was a lot different than a normal game. When we walked out into the arena, Leroy, my assistant leaned over and said, "Probably about 3K more than I've ever seen at a basketball game."
AA: Three thousand? Crestfall has a large arena, right?
EC: For Garon-Averia, yeah. Anyways, the crowd was really loud, especially because we were the away team. Thankfully, it didn't seem to bother the team much. We played better than we had at any practice. Our defense seemed tough, and our offense didn't have many problems. We hit three out of six three-pointers in the first half, and then another four out of nine in the second.
AA: Free throws were easy points too, right?
EC: Twenty for twenty four isn't bad. (laughs)
AA: Obviously not. Anything you feel that needs to be worked on Coach?
EC: Our starting lineup is one of them. The Ellerton brothers were excellent, scoring a combined thirty points, but our forwards were lacking. For the next few games, Kristophevich and Xioban will be sitting on the bench more, until they can prove that they deserve the bench. Likewise, Tretiak and Lee will get more playing time. They picked up eleven points each. We obviously misjudged their chemistry together.
AA: Well, they both play at Katsukova, so they know each other's style.
EC: Also, expect us to try to maintain a more offensive style of play. 79 points wont be good enough to beat the higher ranked seeds.
AA: Well, good luck to you coach in the coming weeks.
EC: Thank you for the interview, and Go Browncoats! ■

Random players quotes about the game:
Xander Ellerton: "It's was very exciting. First game that any of us have played outside the country, and it was nice to bring back a win."
Mikeal Ellerton: "Well, I think we need to man up better. There were times that they nearly walked to the basket for two. That and I need to pass better."
Jarad Miller: "I'd like to thank Coach Combs for leading us through halftime. We could have lost, our defense sucked so bad at half."
Anijong Lee: "Uhh... Well, like Xander said, it was exciting. I think once we settled into the noise we got better."
Aithen Vaughn: "I'm just glad to be here. The win was nice, but to know that I'm representing my country is pretty cool too."

Carasatoga 95, Militaria1000 80

In their first ever international contest, the "G-Hawks" win big over Militaria1000 95-80. The first half opened up slow for both teams, Carasatoga leading at halftime, 39-35, and after the third quarter leading 57-55, but Carasatoga opened up big in the last quarter outscoring Militaria1000 38-25. The difference was in the three point shooting. The first half Carasatoga went 3/7 from beyond the arc and improved in the second half to 9/14; most of these from Taylor Morris, who finished with 29 for the night who was 5/8 from the three-point line. We talked to Morris after the game about leading the 'G-Hawks' in scoring, "I mean, from practice I knew that we could do it, and after the half I was like, you know what, I need to open up, and so I did, it was like I couldn't miss from beyond the arc, I mean come one, I only missed one the whole second half, that's pretty sweet."
In the paint though, it was Center Trevor Zelweger who came up big with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, "Rebounding, and putting up those second chance boards is what I needed to do tonight and that is just what I did."
Coach Grey was clearly pleased with the performance during the AP press conference after the game, "Our boys did it, they did it. Our practices paid off this week with a big win over a tough team, I mean, it was fourth quarter really where Militaria1000 couldn't handle us, especially from beyond the arc, and on boards. I'm proud of my guys, they did something historic here, winning the first ever international game for their country, it's great."
This week's match is going to be another challenge for the G-Hawks as the number 1 seeds in each group finally enter the competition, but after last night, experts say the national team can handle it. This has been TJ Brett, TVC Sports.

CVC Ball Mouflons Drop First Game at IBC

The Civil Citizenry Ball Mouflons, representing the nation in an international basketball competition for the first time, fell in a tight game to Spitfyred1, 73-70, at the International Basketball Championships in Delaclava. A double-double by Aleri Hazess was not enough to put Spitfyred1 away. Civil Citizenry led the game, which was played at Grand Basketball Stadium in Richardsonia, Civil Citizenry, after the third quarter; but a fiery final quarter by Spitfyred1 was enough for the visiting team to pull out the W.

Ball Mouflons Head Coach Olyapnemi Teerarhanai sounded both dejected and positive after the game. "Obviously, losing hurts pretty bad, especially on a stage this big," he said. "But we have no expectations to meet, no bar to jump over - and we played really well, almost well enough to win. If we can keep playing like this, you know, the next few years are going to be really successful for us."

The Ball Mouflons were led by Hazess, with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Leanker Umaga threw in 17 points and 6 assists, and Chopomnu Koofiname added 14 points. Center Iklim Iklim pulled down 10 boards to help the cause.

Koofiname had to be removed from the game in the fourth quarter due to a twisted ankle. He was taken to a nearby hospital for a routine check-up, though the team has not released any details as to the severity of his injury. Teerarhanai mentioned the loss of Koofiname, replaced in the game by young Gionu Bretawll, as a major factor in the team's fourth-quarter meltdown. "Chop is a tenacious defender, and I know that with him in the game the Spitfyreds' offense would have struggled a lot more," he said. Teerarhanai did disclose that Koofiname is likely to play on Sunday against Michael VIII (the team has a bye tonight).

A low scoring first quarter put Spitfyred1 ahead, 15-14, before a defenseless, back-and-forth second quarter gave Spitfyred1 a four-point lead at halftime, 40-36. But the third quarter was all Hazess, as he scored 12 of his 22 points in that quarter. Combined with another 14 points by his teammates, the third quarter ended with Civil Citizenry in front, 62-57. Soon after the last quarter began, however, Koofiname tripped over a Spitfyred1 player trying to get back on defense, and landed awkwardly on his foot. After team Trainer Krekamm Fowapin tended to the forward on the court for a minute, he was helped to his feet before limping off to the locker room to be brought to the hospital. For the rest of the quarter, the Ball Mouflons looked deflated on offense; Bretawll was not a presence in the paint, scoring just two points in twelve minutes. While the defense held Spitfyred1 to just 16 points, it was enough to pass CVC by the time the last buzzer rang sharply through the arena, which was packed from beginning to end due to the closeness of the game. The fans exited dejectedly, having hoped for a buzzer-beater by the Ball Mouflons to send the game into overtime - but it was not to be.
