I think it's worth repeating a post from the person generating our scorinator, who'll also be our likely initial organiser:

The Babbage Islands wrote:I would discourage posting rosters and stadia now. I will start a GCF thread sometime during the football World Cup to house all of that and start a formal calendar, with a target of the first week of March for the first tests.

Advice perhaps worth taking on board by some of our more enthusiastic participants.

Scorinator update: At this point I need input from the community on how to organise declarations. My thought is to allow declarations by run target (X runs in the innings), time of day (lunch, tea, or stumps), or a combination (350 by lunch, for example). More than one order may be set. Does this seem reasonable, or am I missing something necessary?

Been looking at the thread, since I've been interested in Cricket. The declarations sound about right so far. However, and this shows how long it's been since I've been on, wasn't there a Cricket scorinator in existence once upon a time? I remember it was java-based and I know it was on the Jolt boards before cuz I used it to run Twenty20 series in my old state.

I'm essentially a post-Jolt nation, so I don't know about a Java-based cricket scorinator. A spreadsheet-based one for ODI cricket is part of Miscellanator.

I was going to suggest allowing declarations for the team batting second by number of runs ahead, but I suppose that's covered by run target. In other words, if the team batting first are all out for 98 (sniggers in most unmodly fashion), and the team batting second want to declare when they have a lead of 500, they simply set a run target of 598.

In other words, looks like you have it covered to me, especially given the excellent addition of a time of day factor.

There is no formal comp to be accepted into yet - we're still discussion formats and scorinators.

That would be because that list is no longer being maintained by the OP; I would imagine that once a cricket tournament does get underway, this will become the discussion thread (and I'll probably rename it accordingly if I have to), with a new thread used for sign-ups, scores, and RP.

So please, can we leave the picspam of stadiums alone and try to concentrate and format and scorinator issues for now?

Im interested in this competition.

At this point I need input from the community on how to organise declarations. My thought is to allow declarations by run target (X runs in the innings), time of day (lunch, tea, or stumps), or a combination (350 by lunch, for example). More than one order may be set. A team isn't going to declare until the second day and usually after lunch if they bat first, and usually not before they make over 500 runs or lead by over 300. Second Innings declarations also happen on the fifth day or very late on the fourth.

So maybe a declaration condition could be: Team score > 500 AND Lead > 300 AND Time > Day 1 for example. It really depends on those three factors with the exception of the team that bats first in the first innings.

<<nods>> Thanks for the suggestion.

To bring you up to speed, the scorinator under development will spit out results on a daily basis. The side batting at the start of each day may then submit instructions on when to declare their innings, if at all. My question is about what forms such an instruction might take for input into the scorinator.

Or maybe the teams owner can say what score/time they want to declare on before the match?
