As an American, I don't get to watch cricket, so I don't know what those are, but I do know some of the basic rules. A friend from Jamaica taught them to my Sunday School class once, years ago. Had a small game, and I got kinda hooked.

So once you've scanned through the info would you be interested in partipating in NS Cricket.

I'd be more for ad hoc test series, with an OOC thread for organisation thereof. But we can always run that concurrently.

With the way the RL ICC is planning on running the world test championship, an ad hoc test series can easily become a world championship. We can play a few tests, and then a to-be-specified number of nations at the top of the rankings after playing a certain number of series each could contest the championship. The latter can grow out of the former if the former works.


But I stress that, of all the people expressing an interest to host so far, the only one whom I'm wholly comfortable with is TBI. I'll keep an open mind about alternatives, but I'm not sure everyone here is fully grasping the extent of work potentially necessary here to make this successful.

My opinion : I think we need to make a list of all the nations that are interested and then start with some kind of a test series that pits them against one another.
We shall decide the rankings upon that. And uummm.... If we cAN have one tournament successfully then we shall come up with a governing body like ICC.

I'd like to start a conversation about the organisation of the first test cricket series. For the next six weeks my priority here is the World Cup, but I'd like to iron out some things now so we can start soon after WC54 ends.

Here are my thoughts for the first season of the Global Cricket Federation.

1. The season runs eight weeks. Tests are scorinated one day per RL day, Monday through Friday (or Tuesday through Saturday--any preference?).
2. Each nation may have one test scheduled per week. Determination of home ground is up to the nations who agree to play.
3. Nations are strongly encouraged, but not required, to schedule series of two or three tests at the same site on consecutive weeks instead of one-offs.
4. A ranking system (the subject of a separate post) will account for the results of all tests.

5. The World Championship is contested over three weeks after the eight-week season is concluded. A team must have completed at least two series during the season to be eligible. In the first season, the top four teams in the rankings will receive the seeds 1-4. In subsequent seasons the reigning champions will be seeded #1, the top-ranked team other than the champions #2, and teams #3 and #4 are the two next-highest ranked teams who did not play in the previous season's championship.
6. The Page playoff system will be used:
Week 1: Match A--1 v 2; Match B--3 v 4
Week 2: Match C--A loser v B winner
Week 3: Final--A winner v B winner
7. In all World Championship tests the better-seeded team has home ground and will advance in the event of a drawn or tied test. (Alternative: a super-over like Twenty20?)
