Test cricket interest

Postby The Babbage Islands » Sat Nov 20, 2010 7:56 am

I'm close to finishing a scorinator for test (and by extension, first-class) cricket. Two questions arise:

1. What nations would be interested in playing some sort of organised test cricket here in NS Sports?

2. If you have an interest in test cricket, would you prefer:
  • A scorinator that generates all five days of the match in one go (five times as fast, but automating declarations); or
  • A scorinator that generates day-by-day results (much slower, but allows players to influence declaration strategy along with their RP post).

Test cricket interest

Postby Greater Cotswalds » Sat Nov 20, 2010 8:05 am

I am very interested, and this is great given the fall through of the World Cup.

Honestly I'd prefer one that gives day to day results and allowing for strategy to be played out through RP...I mean...when was Test cricket ever loved for it's speed or efficiency?

Recent attempts to start up cricket again seem to have run into our old friend apathy - but with the Ashes starting this week (and with England facing their best chance to win in Australia in 20 odd years), this could be a good time to look at this again. The ICC has also recently announced plans for an official RL World Test Championship, which might provide some sort of model.

I'd consider sending in a monastic team.

I would prefer day to day results over all five days done in one go.

I would also be interested. And am glad someone has finally made one, after I have tinkered and tampered with excel as much as possible, I haven't managed so. Also, I'd prefer the day-by-day results. You can decide whether you declare or not, also if the follow-on has been input into the scorinator, then that could also be chosen/or not chosen.

I'd be interested, certainly; I think a scorinator with day-to-day scorination has more potential, RP-wise, as it allows people to draw up storylines/suspense/both during the match, adding a new dimension to RP.

I'll continue work on the day-to-day version, then -- that consensus is clear. It's also clear that enough people are interested to make it worth attempting.

Two minor factors I'm fussing about incorporating are day-to-day weather and a team style modifier or modifiers. Any thoughts?

I meant weather style is interesting, just not sure how easy that is to put into place. In regard to team style modifier I think that would be good, so we can decide if we want a bat heavy team or a bowling heavy team or a middle of the road squad.

Style modifiers are a definite yes...the weather aspect is something that would be helpful too, though it depends on whether people would really want to RP rain delays.

What could be more fun than RPing it pissing down in a field for five days before a draw is declared? :p

Seriously though, I'd certainly consider signing up for some sort of test cricket, so a yes for interest from me. As for what to generate I think day by day scorinating would allow for a more comprehensive scoring, though it would make tournaments, series and such pretty lengthy if they were done.

Style mods would get a yes from me. Weather meanwhile would certainly be good to have, though I'd see it more as a rather handy bonus than a necessity.

Of course, to counteract this for large tournaments, all five days can be scorinated one after the other, and posted either as five individual results or as a single comprehensive one.

We are interested in being involved in this and we would prefer a scorinator that generates day to day results.

Definite interest from me, and I would favour some type of style mods too. Not to fussed about whether it's day by day or all five at once, as either would be okay for me.

I did know a MSdos program which you could add teams and their batting and bowling averages. at the end of every game you had the option to save it, which would allow the scorecard, and from what I can remember, day-by-day scores, on MSword. I will try and find this program and get back to you all.

Ive found it. You can play test/first class (you can choose the number of days you want to play) and one day cricket. You can make your own teams. It saves the score cards and can be viewed in notepad. To make it generate the match faster, press the enter button while it is generating.

what do you guys think?

I want Khytenna for my first game. This will be easy to make into a rivalry, no doubt.

I like it. Though, I personally think we should have one day cricket. Depending on how many signups we get, we cannot have multiple days to do 1 match, tournaments have to go faster.

I don't know much at all about cricket, but we will play just about any sport. This seems like it could be fun. Would we have an organised tournament or would it be like real cricket where we just play tests against one another?
