NS Marching Band Competitions(Open, Idea)

Postby Arivada » Sun Oct 17, 2010 10:58 am

Well I am in my local marching band and was wondering if it would be a good idea for NS to have a competition of National Marching bands. Now granted it will be a unique rp but it does have some chance of actually being successful. My idea on how it would work would be-

Essentially you rp as the band. Standrad RL life instruments and you describe as best you can the way the band preforms. Then some judges rped by other players get to decided on a 1-100 score on how you did. The score from the three judges will be avereged and you have your score.

So i figured I would start an application for this-

Code: Select all
Band Name:
Number of members and their instruments:
Drum Major's name:
Amount of practice/rehersal a week your band gets(in hours):

Example:

Band Name: Arivadian Marching Hoplites
Number of members and their instruments: 15 Trumpets, 10 Trombones, 5 Baritones, 10 Mellophones, 20 Flutes, 15 Clarinets, 5 Sousophones, 30 Color Guard members
Drum Major(')s(') name: Pierre Claude
Amount of practice/rehersal a week your band gets(in hours): 20 Hours a week

The only thing I couldn't figure out how to do was music. That is obviously very important but would be hard to do and I am willing to accept Suggesstions.

Alliance Star and I have in fact been (very sporadically) discussing re-starting the drum & bugle corps championship tour. The scorinator I devised is rather byzantine to use, but the concepts are very easily adaptable to marching band, especially if we're talking about field rather than parade bands.

Incidentally, I can no longer point you to the threads in which the actual AIDBCA tours (there were seven before it was suspended) were RPed...they were all held before the move from Jolt, which means that they were deleted in just the last few days.

Well can you describe how you did music?

Well, for one our judging wasn't done via RP as you seem to have planned, for much the same reason scores aren't determined by RP in NS sporting events. The scores for the performance were generated by a computer program; you could then RP your corps's performance, the day's rehearsal, reactions after retreat in the parking lot, etc.--basically, whatever you thought was interesting.

You might find this article on WikiStates interesting.

At the beginning of each tour, corps would submit descriptions of their program, including their musical selections. That's as far as music went OOCly, though of course RPs would include references to/mentions of/descriptions of music.

This sounds like a great idea, I'm certain my nation would excel at a marching band competition obviously
