St-Fortunat International Bonspiel Complete, Congrats to...

[Cotdelapoms]

Curling is the third most popular sport in Cotdelapoms, and the new season is kicking off soon. There are five major events in Cotdelapomais curling, the Bonspiel St-Fortunat, the Thistle, the Skins Championship, the Inter-Provincial Championship and the Whaler $1,000,000 Challenge. For the first time ever, in the weeks following the Bonspiel St-Fortunat, Curling Cotdelapoms is hosting an international bonspiel for teams from all over the globe.

Scorination
I will be using Miscellanator v1.08, since I've been playing around with it a lot recently and like its' curling results. The RP Cutoff will be at 21:00 UTC.

RP Bonus
RP Bonus will be the entirety of the difference between the rinks in this tournament, as there are no rankings I am aware of. If anyone states that they want to not be very good, I can appease that. I will be rating RPs on creativity and syntax. They do not have to be crazy to be creative, it can be very creative even within a simple match report.

Tiebreakers
1. Head-to-Head
2. Tiebreaker matches. A single match for a tie between two teams, a triangular series for a tie between three, and so forth.

Format
There will be a single round-robin between all the competing rinks, with the top 4 making a playoff. Ideally there will be 8-10 rinks competing.

Previous Experience
Frankly, I have none, which is why I am starting with such a small event. I've been playing in events since the beginning of the summer, and I think I've been doing ok. The Cotdelapomais Série A football league has players from all over the world and I've dealt with lots of countries as a result. I can't guarantee it will run perfectly, but I will try my best. It's curling, let's have some fun with it.

About St-Fortunat
St-Fortunat is a small island in the Modraine Sea, the northernmost city in Cotdelapoms. It is a popular summer destination for its' natural beauty and cooler climate, along with its' massive collection of puffins and polar bears. Only about 2000 people live there year-round, and the St-Fortunat Curling Club holds only 1000 spectators.

Due to taxes, things in Cotdelapoms are already expensive, but they're even more so in isolated St-Fortunat, and they will be even more expensive now than before with the Cotdelapomais Dollar being strengthened. Fresh produce doesn't really grow there, so apples can sometimes cost as much as $3/kg. Thankfully for the pescetarian population, there is bountiful salmon- and it is considered the best in the Goose Coast.

Cotdelapomais people are aggressively polite and remarkably stubborn. They tend to be very well read and positive, but tend to behave in a manner that doesn't benefit themselves, perhaps due to the stubbornness. The nation has just voted in a controversial new government that has made the country more capitalist and in turn improved the economy considerably, but it is still wildly unpopular. There is an eternal language debate between the French and the English, which flares up during elections but generally is not a major factor in day to day life. Most people are bilingual.

Curling is the third most popular sport in the country and the event will surely be sold out and draw a large television crowd. Smoking and drinking during the event is not only allowed, but encouraged.

The UCCC is the oldest sporting organization in Carasatoga. Curling is the most popular winter sport, if not the most popular sport in Carasatoga. After a rough St-Fortunat All-Cotdelapomais Bonspiel, Martin Deslauriers' Marianne rink is weary coming into the St-Fortunat International Bonspiel. Having never competed against foreign competition, the team is unsure as to what to expect- so they've seemingly decided to prepare by going on an all night bender on the quiet winter resort island. At 3AM this morning, locals reported seeing three drunk men sledding down a large hill on the north-east of the island with empty bottles of beer scattered around. When police arrived, the men were identified as skip Martin Deslauriers, lead Yann Dumas and alternate Axel Perreault, and all were charged with one count of criminal mischief and immediately released on bail.

The ACC released a statement about the rink representing them at the St-Fortunat International Bonspiel, which was not particularly condemning, stating that "We would like to congratulate the Marianne rink for their victory in the St-Fortunat All-Cotdelapomais Bonspiel, and are excited they will be representing us at the International Bonspiel. After hearing of their celebration and arrest, we would like to say that whilst we do not condone their actions, it's just a bit of fun, and sometimes you have to let boys be boys, eh? Nobody got hurt, and who doesn't like a bit of beer or cidre in celebration of a job well done? We just hope they practise a little bit more discretion when celebrating their victory in the International Bonspiel."

FEVELO CURLING NEWS CENTER AT fevelocurling.fv

Curlers take to the ice in Cotdelapoms over the next few days in events that open the way to qualification for St. Fortunat International Bonspiel playoffs.

8 curling teams from across the world are gathered in St. Fortunat preparing for the competition. Rinks from Cotdelapoms, Meguroko, Liventia and Adi'han, Legalese, Garon-Averia, Fevelo, Carasatoga, and Altimarus will compete.

Fevelo is sending Mackofor Rink, one of the most prestigious in the nation. Mackofor Rink consists of 5 curlers: Carlos Delgrad, Teemu Barzsinski, Jack Bonner, Leonard Schmitd, and Thomas Bennison.

Fevelo's first challenge will be the combined delegation from Adi'han and Liventia. These are two very experienced sporting nations and will definitely be a challenge for the Fevelese rink.

Play begins on Monday evening for all rinks and will continue through January 20, the day of the Final. Check fevelocurling.fv daily for more curling updates.

UCCC Opens St-Fortunat Campaign Against Meguroko

The UCCC Purple Sweepers are making their international debut at the first St-Fortunat International Bonspiel in Cotdelapoms, St-Fortunat. This is an historic even for the UCCC, as it is its first international appearance since the modern game has spread across the world. This years rink consists of members from the Johnstown Seamen club, the reigning national champions. Skip, Avery Goodwin; Vice, Zakary Presley; Second, Halon Burton; and Lead, Jacob Kowlchetzcy, coached by Kaperin DuBentley are looking to impress with their curling skills that could only have come from Carasatogan blood. Many say that there is no better club to represent our nation than the Seamen, having beat the club from Caroga which was ranked second 16-5 in the final match. All are future hall-of-famers and are excited for the competition that lies ahead.
During an interview with Goodwin and Burton, UCCC Monthly delved into the mindset of our nation's pride:
UCCC Monthly: "So, here we are, our nations first international tournament; how are you guys feeling?"
Goodwin: "Good, I think. Nothing has changed, I mean, from reports, the Caroga rink is better than the Meguroko rink who we're facing the first round, and look at how bad we smoked them. I think it's later on when we play the host team and teams like Altimarus and Liventia where we will need to be especially on our game."
Burton: "Yea, I agree. I think it's pretty safe to say we got this first match, but just because we're confident doesn't mean we are over confident, we're still gonna' train our hearts out for the tournament."
UM: "So it seems you aren't worried at all about Meguroko?"
Both: "No."
G: "No, not really. Like I said before, it's later teams where we might not win big."
UM: "How does it feel to be playing in your first international match, the first in the nation's history during the modern game?"
B: "Omigod, it's incredible when you think about it. I mean, no one has ever done this before. Of course Carasatogans played on the national team for Naragansett and Norway, but this is the first totally Carasatogan side to compete."
G: "It's exciting, I feel honored to be a part of something this momentous. I can't wait to cast the first stone."
UM: "How are you all getting ready for the Bonspiel?"
G: "Pretty much training like normal for right now. Later on I think we'll start training harder."
B: "Yeah."
UM: "UCCC fans are wondering, what is it like in St-Fortunat?"
B: "Oh, it's awesome. The people here are ridiculously nice. And this village is beautiful, I can't think what to compare it to in Carasatoga."
G: "I think St. Moritz maybe, or the Aurelian Coast, nothing Northerly like this though, it's breathtaking. I recommend anyone who wants a scenic and quiet vacation to come to Cotdelapoms in Northern St-Fortunat."
UM: "Okay, thank you gentlemen, and good luck with your upcoming match. I assume we'll be speaking again in the next couple weeks."

Inglande Rink Confident about First Match Against Legalese

Tomorrow marks the first day of the St. Fortunat Internation Bonspiel. For those who do not know what a bonspiel is, it is a curling tournament. The Inglande rink, known for it's scrappy guards, and hard throws, will be partaking in the event. The schedule was released earlier today by officials from Cotdelapoms, the host of the bonspiel. Garon-Averia will play as the away rink for the first match of the bonspiel. Martin Inglande sat down for an brief interview with the Aubanie Advance.

"Yeah, we feel very capable of doing well in this tournament. Obviously, we've proven our abilities in countless tournaments back home, and the Sports Director has determined that we're what's best for this tournament. We've been practicing consistently, and working relentlessly." he said, commenting quietly. "Other teams have been doing well in tournaments, and we hope to well in our tournament as well." he added, finishing the interview.

Tonight was the first round of matches in the St. Fortunat International Bonspiel in Cotdelapoms. The Inglande rink was paired up against a rink from Legalese in a standard match.

FIRST END

The first end resulted in a blank end, as Martin Inglande was set to take two points. He was rejected by a masterful last-stone double takeout and guard from the skip of Legalese. 0-0 tie.

SECOND END

As Inglande kept the hammer into the second end, his brother, Ethan, tried to set up some guards to keep Legalese from scoring. His plan was a success, but Legalese knocked one of Covalyn's stones closer to the button. Legalese took the hammer, and Inglande marked one. 1-0, Inglande.

THIRD END

Inglande managed to steal one point in the third end off of a fluke hit-and-roll. On Martin's last shot, Ethan suggested a double takeout so Legalese would only score one. However, there was a slight bit of confusion, and the turn of the stone was too far to the left. The stones collided, and Inglande's stone rolled behind a pocket of guards. Legalese was unable to knock the stone out. 2-0, Inglande.

FOURTH END

Mistakes occurred on Legalese's side this end, as Inglande was able to steal another two points. The lead for Legalese accidentally knocked one of their own stones while sweeping, causing it to be burnt. Inglande took advantage of this, and scored two points. 4-0, Inglande.

FIFTH END

Legalese finally managed to score in the fifth end, as they threw a nice hit-and-roll shot. Because of this, they scored two, giving the hammer back to Inglande and his rink. 4-2, Inglande.

SIXTH END

Legalese stole two points from Inglande this end. On the final shot, Martin put too much turn on the stone, sending it wide right of where it was planned to go. This sent Legalese's stone closer to the pin, where it froze on one of their own stones. 4-4 tie.

SEVENTH AND EIGHTH ENDS

Not much occured in these ends, as Inglande continued to try to hold the hammer, by peeling shots to keep a clean house. Legalese nearly stole another point as a stone was too light coming across the hog and into the free guard stone. 4-4 tie.

NINTH END

Martin Inglande could be heard saying "this end was a mistake" over and over as he skipped. As Bosk and Covalyn threw, Inglande had too many guards for his own good. On their last stone, Legalese knocked one into the button, scoring one for Inglande. 5-4, Inglande.

FINAL END

Legalese held the hammer coming into the last end, needing to score two. However, Inglande threw a takeout, that resulted in them having the closer stone. The end turned into takeout tag, as each skip tried to retake the closer stone. Eventually, as Inglande threw his last stone, he froze two on Legalese's stone. Their stone seemed to be slightly on the far side of the pin, which would have meant that Legalese would have scored one, taking the match to an eleventh end. However, the skip tried to throw a takeout to score two and win. The move failed, and ended up taking out his own stone, scoring two points for Inglande. Inglande def Legalese 7-4.

Three other matches were played tonight. The Marianne rink from Cotdelapoms destroyed the Thorough rink from Altimarus ten to two. The Meguroko rink conceded after the eighth end, as the Goodwin rink from Carasatoga scored seven to Meguroko's one. Finally, the Mackofor rink from Fevelo squeaked out a win against the Purcell rink from Ad'ihan and Liventia, eight to seven. ■

Meguroko Concedes after 8, Carasatoga wins 7-1

The rink from Meguroko conceded last night, giving the Carasatoga Purple Sweepers a 7-1 win in their first ever international curling match with the modern game in the St-Fortunat Bonspiel in Cotdelapoms. Carasatoga was consistent, scoring a point in each end except the 4th. It seems as though the Carasatogan rink underestimated the Meguroko rink, but it didn't slow them down. They dominated the match, keeping Meguroko on its toes the entire night until they had to concede.

Skip Avery Goodwin says that it was a challenging match, but they pulled through, "Meguroko was a much stronger rink than we had thought, but they were obviously having a good night, and look how badly they still lost, so we aren't worried."

We talked with Second, Halon Burton about the big win for the host nation, "Yea, we heard about the 10-2 win over Altimarus, we were definitely surprised because we have practiced with the rink and thought they were one of the top, obviously Cotdelapoms is stronger than even we had even given them credit for. We are up for it though, it's no sweat, I mean... we're Carasatogan, curling is what we do."

The Purple Sweepers will be facing the host rink from Cotdelapoms in their next match, and it proves to be an exciting one with two of the best rinks in the tournament facing off. Carasatogan fans are looking for curling glory, however, and the team has a take-no-prisoners attitude that should carry them far into the next round.

Carasatoga Rink Takes on Hosts and Wins 6-4

In the St-Fortunat International Bonspiel the rink from Carasatoga won over the host nation, Cotdelapoms, 6-4. Carasatoga is now 2-0 in the tournament. Avery Goodwin was at his strongest for the match, leading his team over an impressive opposing rink, "Cotdelapoms was probably the best rink in the competition besides us and they proved it last night; that was hands-down the toughest match we have ever played and it was great. It's nice to have competition now to play against."

Tonight, Carasatoga will face the rink from Garon-Averia in the third round. They have been good so far in the bonspiel with a record of 2-0. When we talked with Zakary Presley about the upcoming match he said, "G-A isn't bad, but we can handle them, especially after last night. We know we are the best here and are out to prove that curlers from Carasatoga are by far the best in NS."

Curling lovers from all over the dominion will be tuning in tonight to see their home rink go for 3-0, something impressive for a new international team.
