just got to thinking we might need more bowls as the number of teams with winning records might warrant additional post season berths.

Bowl Proposal

Name: The Chicken King Violet Bowl
AKA The Violet Bowl
Venue: Chicken King Stadium - Kohnhead City (67,000)
Requirements: Top two second schools of nations with one school in the playoffs

IC: In preparation for a potential Championship bid in the future (with some more stadium expansion), Kohnhead City is bidding to host its own bowl game and is hoping it becomes an annual staple

OOC: While partially added because of the extra bowl games needed this season, I would like if this were added and became a fixture for seasons to come as I feel it is something new and would add a lot. I completely understand however if it is cut.

Update: Following consultation with other two host-scorinators for the conference stage, the MD7 scorination will now be held in thursday night to give those in Big 8 and Woodlands more time to RP.

Ranorian Bid for NSCF 24 Championship Game
Location: Ranoria City, Ranoria
Venue: Karmin-Falce Superdome
Capacity: 121,450
Image

Information: Ranoria City is by far the largest city in Ranoria, with 1.4 million more people than the next largest, and 2.1 million more than the capitol city of Richardson. The City's economy lives off of tourist attractions such as the Karmin-Falce auto manufacturer-sponsored superdome, the largest and, considered by most, the best in Ranoria. The Superdome features a retractable roof, a large selection of food and drink, air conditioning, and even designated smoking areas. The stadium sports multiple screens that are locked in on the action, helping those in the higher parts of the stadium to see what's going on. Besides this, seats in the stadium offer a small amount of cushion, along with reclining ability and the option for heat, which is probably the most enjoyed feature in the stadium - it can be cold in Ranoria, though less so in the more southern regions such as Ranoria City.

Beyond the stadium itself, Ranoria City holds a so-called 'public pool,' which is, in reality, a massive, artificial lake in which recreations of naval battles and sporting competitions are held. For international viewers, this would provide another unique experience to entertain themselves while waiting for the big game, and of course the general nightlife is the best in the country. Ranoria City has of course agreed to foot the cost of hotels, quality food and drink, etc, for the teams and team staff attending games.

For those visiting the country, one should pay mind that while recreational alcohol and marijauna are legal and essentially unregulated, tobacco and other recreational drugs are illegal for sale, use, or redistribution within the country. Most drug related offenses only result in a slap on the wrist, but try not to spend the championship game behind bars! There's a lot of Quebecois inspired fun, bars that Banijan fans have taken over often choose to flock to during the stadium's hosting of the Rebel's Cannon Bowl, and so much more! So we'd prefer not to have anyone miss out on all of that!

HOSTING ANNOUNCEMENT: I'll be most likely on road and nowhere near Xkoranate when the Semifinals Cutoff happen in 2 days' time. A 2-3 day trip with parents and whatnot (preferably 2 days, likelier 3 days).

While I will be grading all the roleplays until the early morning (early evening for those in North America), RP grading in the last few hours before cutoff and posting of the scores (including third party scorination for FSU-KCU) will be done by Chromatika. This means that the semifinals scores will be posted not by this account, but Mr. Chrom/Yeso.

I will be available via mobile whenever there is WiFi on road, and be bringing my laptop during travels. If anything's needed, I will get to them sooner than later.

As NSCF 25 Signups have opened, I would like for us to consider making some changes.

First, that the hard RP reset between MD10 and OOC Week 1 be changed to the standard 1/2 reset. This has been asked for by members of the community for years to reward roleplaying in the regular season instead of having to restart from scratch come OOC/Playoffs.

Second, that the OSPI calculation for away/home to be updated. The current formulae favors road wins a bit too much. Though I agree road wins should matter more than home wins, the ratio could be lessened so that an impact of a road win isn't as much. (I know I'm nerfing myself with FSU's road record being what it is, lol).

Not sure if it's too late to make changes for NSCF 25, but we should at least get the talks going.

I am fine with making the aforementioned changes for NSCF 25.

If official amendments are proposed, I can just give about a week for everybody to vote before everything thread opens up. Since we have about 2-3 weeks of signups, that shouldn't be an issue at all for me.

Worth noting that the current weightings of home/away wins are taken directly from Div 1 NCAA men's basketball RPI formula.

Since that application was based on statistical data that consistently showed home teams in Division I basketball winning about two-thirds of the time, if you feel this is unbalanced for NSCF, I would strongly suggest any adjustment be based on the probability of a home win in NSCF (or just based on the scorinator algorithm itself; depending on whether you want it to be rank-neutral or not) and thoroughly tested. Otherwise you risk over-correcting and causing the opposite problem.

If it helps, through season 20, home teams won about 56% of the time in NSCF, which would correspond to home = 0.88, away = 1.12 (roughly).

Similarly, if you're changing the way RP bonus degrades, you may also need to suggest amendments to other parts of section 6 in the procedural list (and probably add some provision for shared RP bonus grading; since RP bonus will need to be shared from regular season, to non-conference games, to playoff scorinators and there is no provision for this at the moment)
Finally free of the oppressive yoke of the Osarian Kingdom.

I will say, looking at the above, Cobrio is right- we would need to re-work section 006.

I will say, though- the NSCF procedural list does mandate grading RP bonus out of 5 points, so I don't think that sharing RP bonus grades should really be an issue- not like we'll have to adjust because different hosts are using different scales or anything(which you'd have to do for, say, NSCAA).

I do think, for practical purposes, we should probably use the same spreadsheet for grading.. Just each grader have their own sheet or something, all in one Google sheets doc. But not sure if that needs to be written into the Procedural List with that level of detail.

I think the easiest way to change things would be to eliminate the reset and then just do another halving during non-conference play, after week 12(to keep the multiples of 3 weeks aligned- Week 3, 6, 9, and 12).

So, I officially propose an amendment to deal with these two issues(getting rid of the reset, ensuring RP bonus scores are shared with the commissioner).

(006m) RP bonus is to degrade by fifty percent every three matchdays; that is, after matchdays three, six, and nine, and twelve, all accumulated RP bonus to that point is halved. Subsequent RP bonus is added to this amount.

(006p) RP bonus is reset to zero after in-conference games are completed, prior to the first round of Non-Conference games.

(006s) RP bonus is cumulative through the three Non-Conference matchdays with no degradation.

(006t) RP bonus carries over from Non-Conference games the regular season and does not degrade or reset during the playoffs.

(006u) RP bonus scores from the conference scorinators should be shared with the NSCF Commissioner after every single matchday

That's how it looks amended. To clean it up a little bit, the new section(without the bolds/strikethroughs/whatever) that would be copied & pasted directly into the procedural list would be as follows, which would replace the present last 5 parts of Section 6.

(006m) RP bonus is to degrade by fifty percent every three matchdays; that is, after matchdays three, six, nine, and twelve; all accumulated RP bonus to that point is halved. Subsequent RP bonus is added to this amount.

(006n) RP bonus carries over from the regular season, and does not degrade or reset during the playoffs.

(006o) RP bonus scores from the conference scorinators should be shared with the NSCF Commissioner after every single matchday.

As for the OSPI formula, I'd definitely want to do some testing with numbers before I comment with whether I support adjusting that formula or not, so I'll stay silent on that for now.

Also, completely different conversation, but obviously NIL is now legal IRL, which means it is now legal ICly for all of us I believe(since the standard on NSS is to generally follow the RL standard, right?)

I do plan on exploring ICly at some point in the season the ramifications of NIL on Loyola & NMU. If I can figure out an interesting way to add NIL stuff to the recruiting sheet, I will surely and gladly do so, if people want it and/or if people have ideas on how to do it.

Will comment on this with my main account, not NSCF account.

Thank you for this comment. In absolute agreement with it.

Just one thing to add - we do propose adjustment, I would suggest using the data from Cycle 19 to 24 as the Section 006b didn't take effect until NSCF 19, when the Post-World Bowl XXXI formula (with IFAF overtime) were started to be used. I could get to that probably later tonight.

Banija wrote:I will say, looking at the above, Cobrio is right- we would need to re-work section 006.

Sure. Not sure why this didn't come up with me and my predecessor (Cosumar) but looking back it would have saved a lot of work back in the day as well. Chromatika and I already use this for out-of-conference games, but this would also come handy in case a scorinator's out of town and may have to offer a matchday's scorination to their colleague. This happened two cycles ago when Northwest Kalactin was away and IIRC it was Banija who took over for first 2-3 MDs of the regular season.

Banija wrote:Also, completely different conversation, but obviously NIL is now legal IRL, which means it is now legal ICly for all of us I believe(since the standard on NSS is to generally follow the RL standard, right?)

That does sound like a good RPing idea, and it makes sense to add NIL stuff on the recruiting sheet as well.

This doesn't affect me much because I've always assumed that NIL's legal in Quebec, whether for NSCF or QIS (domestic intercollegiate body), but others may apply this more strictly. So this would be a good thing to cover for sure!

Much respect to our NSCF numbers guru. Thanks for the comparisons.

As an old I'll say, for NCAA football it was almost always a lock for home teams to win in days before Every Game Was on TV.
The historical NSCF average still seems a tad bit too low (I'd say 60% is probably closer to RL reality now, although that's my opinion and not based in fact).
I think the change in degradation would be a better tweak right now, and maybe study the H/A weight for another season.

I support the proposed amendment.

Without much update on this front, it's time for me to just go ahead with it by saying that I second this amendment.

Expect a voting post and TG to be sent out in next two hours' time. There will be a three-day voting period.

Good news, we are nearing the goal of 42 schools on the signup list. Good job everyone.

Now, we have one procedural change that need to be put to vote. The NSCF Committee currently consists of the following:

Banija
Cassadaigua
Chromatika
Commonwealth of Baker Park
Drawkland
Karditan
Kohnhead
Quebec and Shingoryeo
Ranoria
TJUN-ia
Valanora

The proposal, introduced by Banija and seconded by Commonwealth of Baker Park and Quebec & Shingoryeo, is for the following to be be replaced to the section 006 of the Procedural Code, with the following changes taking place:

If the amendment passes, this is how it would look:

(006m) RP bonus is to degrade by fifty percent every three matchdays; that is, after matchdays three, six, nine, and twelve; all accumulated RP bonus to that point is halved. Subsequent RP bonus is added to this amount.

(006n) RP bonus carries over from the regular season, and does not degrade or reset during the playoffs.

(006o) RP bonus scores from the conference scorinators should be shared with the NSCF Commissioner after every single matchday.

The intended effect of this amendment is to eliminate the full reset of RP bonus after the conference stage, to be replaced by extension of partial degrade in RP bonus, and also to ensure that RP bonus scores are shared with the commissioner, likely on a common spreadsheet shared between the Commissioner (who usually serves as a scorinator too), other conference scorinators and a nonconference scorinator.

Your options are as follows:

RP Bonus amendment

For
Against
Abstain

NSCF Committee members (listed above) should send their votes to the NSCF nation. Votes sent to any other nation or votes sent by non-committee members will not be counted. The deadline for voting will be November 12th at 7 PM Eastern Standard Time (in North America).

Howdy everybody. So a couple of things on agenda.

First, the number of signups. We are currently at 41 schools, so I'll be waiting for next 12 hrs before making any call. I have rough idea on conference alignment, so that at least will help opening everything thread and deciding on schedule anyway.

Second, the voting period for the RP bonus amendment is now over. Eight out of eleven members have voted. Here are the results:

For: 7
Against: 0
Abstain: 1

The amendment passes. It will take effect immediately, starting NSCF 25.
