Just a heads up...

Speaking from an administrative standpoint; technically if you want to change the designated scorination formula used in NSCF, the committee would have to vote on an amendment to the procedural list. This doesn't mean you can't change it for the remainder of this season, however, as there is also precedent for the commissioner implementing an ad hoc rule change before it was codified (this was how the implementation of OSPI for seeding came about, iirc)

As you were.

Well there goes a decent season into a terrible one for USC and UdS.

Not sure if I'll be RPing much the rest of the way, but if you wonder why they have been playing so shitty....blame April exam season, especially given USC and UdeS having very strict academic standards.

this might sound like a strange question, but why does the OSPI penalize teams who play tough NC schedules, but reward teams that don't play any NC games at all? I understood the fact that the 3 teams I agreed to play before the season even started were going to be tough, but in hindsight, I'd have been better off sitting on my conference record and taking my chances. Having said that, I don't regret taking those games, but I'm wondering if the additional RP bonus compensates for the negative effect that a loss seems to have on your ranking.

In most cases, a day or two of decent RPing, if not a day of really exceptional RPing, is enough to overcome any ranking. Top seeds don't get any boost for their seeding, and in a 16-team format with no byes, they're basically completely irrelevant. The RPing from non-conference games is much more useful than whatever seed you land if you make the playoffs.

Besides, most rankcoasting teams who are top seeds end up losing to the first RPing team they face in the playoffs. Usually.

Ehhh... OSPI shouldn't really penalise teams that play tough schedules. It penalises losing, though.
Scheduling three strong teams and losing all three should put you in a better position than scheduling three mediocre teams and losing all three.

Yes, there's a chance your NC schedule could cost you a playoff berth if you have a bad run, but generally speaking, if you're RPing well, the committee will vote you in anyway. This is even more likely if you had a tough non-conference run, or strong conference rivals, in my experience.

On top of that, three solid RPs in non-conference play should offset the risk of losing them all and hurting your win percentage overall (especially since most people don't RP when they don't have a game). It won't always, admittedly; so it's a bit of a gamble, but the odds are generally in your favour, I think.

Good point to raise though. It's an interesting consideration that should probably be monitored. It's possible I botched the maths.

I appreciate both of the explanations. I have a better insight into how the RP bonus should work. I didn't want to make it sound like I was saying that something was unfair or out of whack.

I think it's important for new people to raise questions and offer fresh perspectives, tbh.

There are probably things in the procedural list that I overlooked when I wrote it originally, or things I missed in the calculation of OSPI (again, my creation) so I'm not mad at anyone who tries to point these things out to me. It's not like you're being a dick about it haha

I suspect (though I haven't checked yet) that...
this is the first time a committee elected team has made the Championship game, let alone won it.

Either way, it doesn't diminish a great playoff run at all. Congrats, Val!
It's about time you won one :)

Congratulations to Mar Sara Tech! It's about time Valanora finally experienced some real NSCF success

I would also like to give a big thanks to everyone who poured time and effort into NSCF 18. In my opinion, you guys made it one of the best seasons yet! I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Stay tuned for some important announcements from the NSCF account shortly.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Postby NSCF » Fri Mar 16, 2018 11:45 am

It is now time for all participants to telegram their nominations for the NSCF 18 Awards to NSCF.

Most Outstanding Player of the Year

Offensive Player of the Year

Defensive Player of the Year

Special Teams Player of the Year

Coach of the Year

Links to rosters can be found in the OP of the main thread. After a week or so of accepting nominations, the NSCF Committee will vote on the winners. You may nominate your own players that you feel are worthy, or others that stood out to you from the season's RPs.

Also, two changes to the NSCF Procedure have been proposed.

Proposal 1) Use the Post-World Bowl XXXI formula in xkoranate to produce higher average scores that better reflect the RL college game. This formula was given a test run in the Non-Conference Games and Playoffs. If Proposal 1 is accepted, it will become the new default for all future NSCF games.

Proposal 2) Change the sixth clause under Scorination and Roleplaying from "The playoffs are to be scorinated by at least two persons" to "The playoffs are to be scorinated by at least two persons or one neutral third-party". The clause was originally written assuming that the scorinator(s) would be NSCF participants. Yesopalitha, as a non-NSCF nation, has scorinated the last few NSCF postseasons with no issue in accidental violation of this clause.

The NSCF Committee shall vote on these proposals along with the final awards winners.

Finally, there is one last administrative issue to take care of.

Having now completed back-to-back three-season terms as Commissioner (NSCF 13-18), I think it might be a good time for me (Cosumar) to step aside and let somebody else try their hand at it. If you would like to take on NSCF Commissioner responsibilities, please say so in this thread.

If there are multiple candidates, the NSCF Committee will vote on them along with the above proposals. If there are no willing candidates, I can continue in the role if needed. However, I'd rather pass the torch with some big RL changes looming ahead of me later this year. The Commissioner should obviously be someone who has plenty of experience in NS Sports and NSCF, strong organizational skills, attention to detail (ahem) and ideally the ability to commit to running at least the next three seasons (NSCF 19-21). I will still be around to advise and help out as well.

This is just some stuff for anyone who hasn't been able to keep up with everyone's stuff. Some candidates and highlights of their seasons I threw together. I haven't gotten around to a few others, but the ones I have yet to write up are...
-QB Simon Gacek, Saguenay (OPOY/MOP)
-WR Bae Choon Ho, Saguenay (OPOY)
-MLB Vontaze Ahn, Saguenay (DPOY)
-CB Plamondon, Saguenay (DPOY)

Sorry Quebec. XD I've been busy the past few days. But everyone should feel free to read up on all of these guys, and others..

OPOY/MOP: QB James Knapke, Baker Park:
-put up 396 yards and 4 scores against Loyola Istria in out of conference play
-7 passing TD and over 700 yards in final two regular season contests
-371 yards and 3 scores versus University of Humaliwo

OPOY/MOP: Isaka Jawara, Loyola Istria:
-Finished Conference Play with a dominant 4 passing TD outing against Northern Dinagat State
-Led the highest scoring offense in the NSCF for the second year running
-2 passing, 1 game winning rushing touchdown against rival northern morovica in first week back after suffering a hamstring injury
-lit up Northern Morovica in losing effort for 4 passing touchdowns in first matchup, tied career high
-Electric performance vs Richardson University in the second Annual Rebel Cannon Bowl with well over 140 yards rushing including a 71 yard touchdown that, despite more scoring from each side, put the game on ice. Totaled 2 passing and 2 rushing TD, the second on the ground being a 45 yarder. Outdueled fellow top-flight QB John Garrett in this one.

OPOY/MOP: QB John Garrett, Richardson:
-put up over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns against both Mar Sara Tech and the University of Constantinople in weeks 2 and 3 for a total of over 800 yards and 8 scores
-swept rivals Cold Hill in conference play
-passed for 4 touchdowns to end regular season play vs Duchess Marion
-Shredded the previously 9-1 Commonwealth of Baker Park squad for 3 passing touchdowns and over 300 yards
-finished season with an marks of 4,200 yards, 38 passing touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions

STPOY: Lewis Love, Vietussia Academy
-4 field goals in season opener
-3 field goals in week 5
-3 field goals in week 10
-hit at least 1 field goal in each contest and didn't appear to miss a PAT through 12 weeks
-to be fair, only the first one is confirmed, Vietussia didn't RP much this year, but I had to dig for special teamsters, alright?

Coach of the Year: Scott Newell, Baker Park
-Led a first year Baker Park Warriors to a 9-1 record in conference play and a conference championship
-rallied team to 9 straight wins after loss in opener

DPOY: Angelo Gordon, Cold Hill
-cleared 20 sack, 20 TFL mark for second straight year
-totaled 100 tackles as a primary pass rusher
-scored 2 defensive touchdowns, forced 5 turnovers
-dominating 6 sack performance to help his team to a win over WZUP Coven in regular season finale, a statline that, along with the dominant win, certainly swung the committee at least slightly

Bump. Let's get some more award nominations!

And maybe a volunteer to be the next Commissioner...

Though a bit unusual, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring for NSCF Commissioner. Although I haven't entered a team in a while, I've been the Third Party scorer for NSCF 14, 16, 17, and 18, responsible for the Out-of-Conference Games and the Playoffs.

I fully understand if you want it to be one of your own.

Nominations for the NSCF 18 Awards are now closed and the nominees have been sent to the NSCF Committee for voting.

The telegram also contains ballots for the two above proposals and the Commissioner election.
