In a very tense match, Cafundéu got their revenge against Sorthern Northland by defeating their National Team for the semifinals of AOCAF 30. The entire region was expecting this match, since it not only involved two extremely powerful squads both on regional and international level, but also was filled with backstage comments that put on some heat in the game. The experienced coach Caio Meback seemed excited to have the chance to show his talent for the Cafundelenses again, while Andreas Gilsoweller Veiga was eager to experiment some more and to use this triumph as a way to finally put his name as the best Cafundelense coach of the new generation. But, in the end, the players stole the attention, promoting a very active game, full of goal opportunities and beautiful moves, impressing the viewers. And, luckily for football as a whole, the match didn't get violent like most expected it to be, perhaps because it was so difficult that the players didn't think much about hitting their opponent or intimidate them, or because the referee is known for being a professional wrestler and a former captain of the army.

Sorthern Northland scored first, thanks to a very embarassing mistake by Vítor Martins, who forgot that Cafundéu was playing with its yellow/white kit and passed the ball to the nearest player in red, which ended being Wolfetone, who had then an open path to score. But the Monopolists didn't get depressed with this ridiculous error, and fought back. Near the twentieth minute, Romergleydson scored with a long ranged shot, and two minutes after it was time for Edu Miranda to score after the goalkeeper failed to safely save a Rafael Nunes shot, giving the rebound. But, before the end of the first half, Sorthern Northland scored the second. In the second half, Cafundéu once again took the lead with an Edu Miranda goal, but this advantage lasted for only two minutes, when Hooper scored. Thanks to the difficulty of the match, Gilsoweller Veiga wasn't able to put himself or the Money Note in the match, which he lamented: "We were ready and fit to play, and I think this would be a great opportunity. I was even planning to sell the third substitution to anyone who would like to play, and had people interested already, but couldn't take the risk. Maybe next time." This was a relief for the Cafundelense fans, and for many the reason why Cafundéu kept strong in the match when it went to extra time. During it, Gutiérrez scored the goal that sent the Monopolists to their second AOCAF final.

Eyes of the nation now on the Blue Foxes at Superstadio
Pacitalia aims for a fourth AOCAF title in front of expectant home crowd

As if the plethora of light-blue flags, streamers, stuffed animals, football shirts, blue fox effigies and shrines to the sport itself wasn't proof positive — it's difficult enough to escape the outright obsession over Friday's final.

Pacitalians and visitors alike now find themselves trapped in a whirlwind of anticipation heading into the pinnacle match of what has so far been a successful first crack at hosting the world's premier regional tournament. The election cycle is over and that means the eyes of nearly every single Pacitalian are now trained on the pitch at Superstadio Repubblicana.

For the Blue Foxes, it will be their fifth journey to the final match — so far they have won three finals and lost one. But none has arguably been as crucial or as important to Pacitalian football fans, none such a matter of national pride, as this, a final in which the Blue Foxes are playing for all the marbles in front of a home crowd.

Cafundéu comes into the final playing for their first title (in their second attempt at the crown). In their initial trip to the final, they fell to Sorthern Northland at AOCAF Cup 27 in Krytenia. In an amusing twist of fate, all four teams — the Blue Foxes, the Monopolists, the Náisiúnta and Krytenia's Aces — again made it to the semifinals in this tournament, like they had done in Krytenia.

Now that Cafundéu has finally had its revenge on Sorthern Northland in an extra-time thriller, their attention is focused on the final, where they face an opponent where the results have long been mixed. Neither side has ever dominated the other in international competition, making the speculation and the buzz over the final result even more intense.

The AOCAF Cup 30 final will be a career-defining match for plenty of stakeholders — not only is it a chance for Blue Foxes manager Marco van Basten to secure his reputation as the greatest-ever coach of the Pacitalian national side, but it is an incredible opportunity for the entire Blue Foxes squad. The player with the most riding on the match is arguably Pacitalian striker Ambrosino Giurimano, who can prove once and for all that he is the greatest football player to ever come out of this country.

For what it's worth, van Basten's counterpart — Cafundéu manager Andreas Gilsoweller Veiga — has just as much riding on this match. He has said from the beginning of the tournament how important it is to him that he go down as the most talented and able manager of a new generation of coaches in the Cafundéu federation.

Whatever happens, the world's eyes are on Superstadio Repubblicana for the same reason — this is likely to be the final of a generation, the play hard, the final result exciting.

Thursday afternoon action saw Krytenia claim third place at AOCAF 30, defeating Sorthern Northland 2-0 on two second-half tallies in front of a full house at Fiorentina's Ferma Profectis.
