The Schiavone Darts Council
invites you to
SCHIAVONIA OPEN DARTS

Schiavonia will be hosting the first (at least to our knowledge) Darts competition. If you want to know how the game works... I've just given you a link!

The competition has been inspired by a challenge set by Schiavonia's two football commentators during their preview of World Cup 52 qualifying. So they've both been roped into entering this tournament.

I have created an excel scorinator in a similar vein to those used in the recent ITA tennis tournaments. But easier, because there's only one competition. And no surface preferences or anything like that.

The tournament will begin as the best of five sets, with each set the best of five legs. For the quarter and semi finals, it will become the best of seven, then nine for the final.

All you have to do to sign up is name your players (up to four at this stage, although there will be room for expansion later if it is needed / desired). Nicknames are encouraged but not compulsory, and will not be used on any official rankings lists and scores. Yet.

Schedule
Sun 22/8 - Opening group draw takes place. Signups may remain open if numbers require with spaces for late entries (Maximum of 64).
Tue 24/8 - Late entries close. Opening group games. These will take place daily around 10:00 UTC.
Mon 31/8 - Group games end. Draw made for knockout stages.
Tue 1/9 - Last 32
Wed 2/9 - Last 16
Thu 3/9 - Quarter Finals
Fri 4/9 - Semi Finals
Sat 5/9 or Sun 6/9 - Final

Day # Matches Rest day

Xander Knafe is anarchy and there are no dart leagues but there is an underground dart throwing scene in some of the big cities. XK will send the top 4 players they could find to Schiavonia Open Darts

Xander-Knafe is a nation of utter Anarchy. Various gangs control portions Xander-Knafe and the activity that occurs in their territory. In Xander-Knafe, people are given numbers at birth instead of names, and only elite gang members have more than 8 numbers in their name. Xander-Knafe has many PMT/FT cities, extremely heavy pollution, wastelands, and virtually no wildlife. All things considered, Xander-Knafe is a rough place, a perfect place to live in poverty or escape to.

I don't know if it is because the thread has been sunk down the forum or because there is a genuine lack of interest, but if we continue with the current slow take up, we'll run with the tournament when we get to 32 entrants. Of course, we'll be flexible with this if anyone else does sign up.

The Ganjapolis National Sports Committee held a three week long tournament to find the top four dart players in the nation. All types of people signed up from amateurs to well established professionals. Here are the results:

1. Dave "Bullseye" Wallis - It's no surprise 34-year-old Bullseye won the tournament. He is the most well established dart players in the nation. In fact before this tournament he may have been the only well-known dart player ever in Ganjapolis. During his career he has won a grand total of 104 dart tournaments throughout the country. However this will be his very first international competition.

2. Liam Holderson - Definitely the biggest surprise in the tournament. He is a 20 year old college student from our capital city. He has absolutely no background in dart tournaments and entered the tournament because, as he said, always beat his friends at the bar and thought it would be fun. Now he's beat out all sorts of professionals in Ganjapolis to qualify for this tournament.

3. Lindsy "Lady Luck" Arnolds - Lindsy Arnolds changed the dart world in Ganjapolis forever. She opened the doorway for females to play darts. She was the first woman to ever win a dart tournament in Ganjapolis and after that she won 17 more. She is also known by dart enthusiasts for her unconventional throwing style. This is also her very first international dart tournament.

4. Sam Brownwell - This 27 year old definitely deserves to be in this championship. He spent his teens and early 20's traveling around Ganjapolis and playing in dart tournaments. Then at the age of 23 he decided to travel the world and play in tournaments in other countries. He just came back to qualify for this international tournament because he is dead-set on becoming the worlds greatest dart player.

The Ad’ihan–Liventia Darts Commission, or ALDC, will send two competitors from each nation. They will be representing the same team, however.

Davis "The Master" Roconieri, from Orean, Liventia, is a 45-year-old exponent of the game who has been throwing darts since he was four, albeit back then at his father's backside more than at a dartboard. Winner of the ALDC's most recent tournament, the 16-man ALDC Champions’ Invitational.

Jim "Never Miss" Thomson, from Folenisa, Liventia, a 56-year-old whiskey-guzzling bear of a man, who always turns up with a bottle of the best in one hand and a dart in the other. Despite all his drinking, he lives up to his nickname and professes to have never once not hit the dartboard in his competitive days. Fifth at the ALDC Champions’ Invitational.

François "Frenchie" Duvalier, from Mont-Pluie, Ad’ihan, is a 31-year-old police officer by day who claims to only play darts as a stress reliever, having picked it up after joining the Grand Island Regional Police force five years ago. One of the very few Francophone players on the ALDC circuit, he surprised all by finishing runner-up to Roconieri in the final of the ALDC Champions’ Invitational.

Pauline "The First Lady of Darts" Edwards, from Sémoy, Ad’ihan, is a 39-year-old university economics lecturer who started playing darts only because she "found it fun to watch on the telly". She is the first and only female on the ALDC circuit, thus earning her the nickname of the First Lady of Darts, she was the shock qualifier for the ALDC Champions’ Invitational and finished a creditable sixth.

I was going to send around a message reminding people about it the other day, but something came up. As it is, a draw will be made on Sunday, so if any belated entries care to join up, they can.

Stannge: We're only going with four entries per nation at this stage, so if you could choose one player to take out, otherwise I'll just go with the first four listed.

DARTS FEVER HITS SCHIAVONIA

NationStates' first international darts tournament started in Schiavonia today. The locals were excited to be hosting such a prestigious tournament. Even if most of the rest of the world didn't seem to care.

"It's not as if we haven't promoted the thing enough!" said the island's leader Kenny Sanderson IV at the opening game, involving the hosts' Olivier Leau.

"We've plugged this thing in nearly every single sports press release we've put out. All three of them!"

Indeed, darts has been the game on everyone's lips around the island. It even seems to have distracted the island's national football team, as they have only won one of their six games prior to this tournament's opening.

However, the rest of the world gave nothing so much as a nonchelant shrug towards the tiny island, as play got under way. The results of the opening round of games can be seen below.

Group 1
Olivier Leau (Schiavonia) 3 - 0 Thomas Paulson (Saugeais)
Steve Lysander (Krytenia) 2 - 3 Rainvanteus Birdel (Dorian and Sonya)

Group 2
Al Smith (Schiavonia) 3 - 0 Roderick Valse (Xander-Knafe)
Will Dancer (Stannge) 2 - 3 Venuialel Nalldiir (Dorian and Sonya)
Linden Davenport (Bergnovinaia) 1 - 3 Nik Yurg (Corelct)

Group 3
Fernando Cueto (Schiavonia) 3 - 0 Max Dobbs (Xander-Knafe)
Tony Nottingham (Avenard) 3 - 0 Jarrod Malice (Stannge)

Group 4
Laurie Jones (Schiavonia) 3 - 1 Liam Holderson (Ganjapolis)
Franky Rode (Robsonien) 0 - 3 Andrew Rutherford (Krytenia)

Group 5
Jeff Knott (Bergnovinaia) 1 - 3 Nármara Faerondalan (Dorian and Sonya)
Lindsy Arnolds (Ganjapolis) 3 - 2 Sing - Sing Tang (Stannge)
Jane Jones (Corelct) 2 - 3 Jim Thomson (Liventia)

Group 6
Legoion Lanantinu (Dorian and Sonya) 3 - 1 Willie James Armstrong (The Andromeda Islands)
Eduard de Velasco (Bergnovinaia) 2 - 3 Holly Champions (Stannge)

Group 7
Frank Martin (The Andromeda Islands) 2 - 3 Craig Martuccio (Krytenia)
Pauline Edwards (Ad'ihan) 3 - 0 Dave Wallis (Ganjapolis)

Group 8
Davis Roconieri (Liventia) 3 - 1 Paul Merenghi (Krytenia)
Jim Belushi (Veroija) 0 - 3 Nicolas Davidson (Xander-Knafe)

* - Apologies to anyone who saw the original set of scores posted here. They looked very suspicious after I'd posted them and, after looking at the previously unused scorinator, I soon figured out why and corrected this.

Dart Mania Underway

The first ever NS darts competition got underway today as players from all over the NS world gathered to see who can be the first ever Champion. Here are the national standings (quite unofficial) after day one. Five nations have not lost a match, including ourselves and the hosts who both saw entrants amass 4-0 records as all four players competed on day one. Quite Impressive.

Grace. Fluidity. Balance. Those are just some of the words that come to the minds of most other races when asked about the characteristics of the Elven peoples. (we feel no need to include short and pointy-eared). All three are attributes that lend themselves very well to success at the glorious game known to us as Aurunimara and to the rest of the word as Darts. Attributes that were well displayed as our players finished the day without a loss.

Rainvanteus Birdel, known affectionately throughout the Queendom as “Dig-Dug” defeated Steve “Tiger” Lysander of Krytenia 3-2 in what was a very close match all the way to the end. Only trip-10s, trip-7s, and dub-7s with the final three throws secured the victory.

Lady V (Venuialel Nalldiir) defeated Will Dancer of Stannge in another close match 3-2. The final set wasn’t as close as Lady V proved the more sure-handed as nerves got to Dancer.

Nármara Faerondalan, the Silver Fox, showed off what expertise more than two millennia can allow to be honed as she downed Bergnovinaia’s Jeff Knot who seemed to be awestruck in the presence of the much older Elven Champion.

And Lego “cant throw” proved again that he quite honestly can throw despite the name given to him by the Silver Fox more than 20 years ago by defeating Willie James “Stretch” Armstrong of the Andromeda Islands 3-1.

A very good start for us indeed.

Unfortunately, the only stanngeian to win was holly champions. Although we are proud of that, it sucks that only one stanngeian won.

Lindsy turned around and sighed. She had done it. After a long grueling match with Sing-Sing Tang from Stannge she managed to pull off the one victory for Ganjapolis today. She knew what she had to do and she got it done. Of course Sam Brownwell got today off so maybe he can help and pull off a victory tomorrow. Hopefully everyone can, Darts has taken a backseat in Ganjapolis for a long time and these four competitors want to change that. Maybe if they can get on a roll they can shift some of the media attention to this sport rather than the International Basketball Championships that everyone is so obsessed with. DARTS FEVER DEEPENS

After all of Schiavonia's entries into their darts championship won in their opening games, darts fever is really gripping the island.

"It's brilliant!" said one onlooker, "And so simple! All they have to do is throw pointy things at a target! It's almost as good as football! But not quite."

Indeed, a trend has started whereby the inhabitants of the island have started giving each other darts style nicknames.

"This could get very annoying very quickly," said Kenny "Leader of the Pack" Sanderson before today's matches.

Speaking of which, here are the results from today.
