Hola, bienvenid@ a NS Sports.

If I make a thread for a football league that consists of my own nation as well as a few friends' nations, would I be able to edit the OP at will (to update standings, latest games, etc.) ?

Yes. If you look at the OPs of most newswire threads, they've all been edited a number of times.

The tables we use are typically produced through scorination using Xkoranate, and the guide for the software is here (credit to their respective sources). The software has a table generator if you are getting your results differently.

Perhaps an unusual question, but would people be interested in video recaps of my nations seasons? I'm thinking of no more than 2-5 minutes on each season, showing how the season unfolded after each round of fixtures, recapping the best and worst teams etc.? I use Excel to simulate my leagues and could pretty them up a bit so it's not just watching someone playing around on a spreadsheet.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Jelle's Marble Runs, where people would tune in each week to see how their chosen team(s) got on.

I only bring this up because I'm much better at verbal over written, and feel it could be more engaging that way.

Some of us here in NSS have been doing video RPs, and yes, video RPs are a valid way of producing RPs.

I know this may not be the right place to ask this, but I couldn't find anywhere else to, so...

Is/was there a competition similar to the Hunger Games that was hosted in this thread? If not, any recommendations for hosting one?

This is the closest thread I can find: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=432360&hilit=battle+royale

If you want to host one, you need a scorinator (a program that produces results via RNG) for a battle royale. As far as I'm aware of, there's none, but you can ask the information you need here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=55249

Edit: There was an esports battle royale event in the XIII Summer Olympics, but the host did not specify how it was scorinated.

I'm aware of the need for such a software. However, there are many hunger game simulators out there.

I'm afraid that won't do.

What DOESN'T Belong

- Tournaments using real-life teams or athletes (e.g. The UEFA Champions League, the US Open, Lionel Messi, The 2018 World Cup etc.)

- Tournaments that are not scorinated, or have scores generated through Video Games such as FIFA, Football Manager, Madden, etc. Domestic Leagues can be done in this manner, though.

- Events that are not related to sport.

- Discussion about real life sports events or games. This should go in the General forum.

- Copycat versions of existing tournaments. A number of sports have a dominant competition that you cannot claim to be hosting without being voted in by other users. Some examples are:

Football/Soccer: The NationStates World Cup, Baptism of Fire and Cup of Harmony
Football/Soccer: The Under-21 (Di Bradini Cup), Under-18 (Sporting World Cup) and Under-15 World Cups
American Football: The World Bowl, NationStates College Football
Baseball: World Baseball Classic
Ice Hockey: World Cup of Hockey, Cherry Cup
Formula 1: WGPC, WGP2
Athletics: The NS Olympic Games
Lacross: World Lacrosse Championships
Quidditch: The Quidditch World Cup
Handball: Handball World Cup

The rules for NS sports technically say that I must either have my tournament scorinated or have my scores not generated via video games. According to the rules of grammer, or is an indication of allowing a party to choose to do one out of a series of actions. Say, if I were to use any of the plenty of hunger games simulators out there, then that would not violate the second option, as they are considered simulations. Fun simulations, but not games.

Could I do that?

No. The rules say Tournaments without a scorinator or have scores generated through Videogames DOESN'T BELONG. In this case, "OR" is adding another possibility for us to deal.

Like in "Peter or Paul can do the dishes." (both can do).

The only exception here is for you to generate domestic results. If you want to do posts about your local Hunger Games, with your local citizens only, that's okay.

The big problem of using one of the Hunger Games simulators on the internet is: They don't give us a reliable chance to win based on points. It's merely RNG. If I send a pair of citizens to an edition of Hunger Games, I'd clearly write them thoroughly, in order to gain A LOT OF ROLEPLAY BONUS. However, you don't have a way to judge, grade and guarantee roleplayers will get deserved bonuses. You have not even deigned to understand how NS Sports works before proposing anything.

Hello, I would like to have a question clarified, how exactly do I use a scorinator? Example: Do I have the job of assigning rank points to other players? I installed a scorinator for association football (NSFS301) and I don't know what "Team Style" is and is there any standard method to determine points for teams?

I'm not sure about NSFS. Most people use xkoranate and there's plenty of tutorials around.

Usually, Team Style refers to "How the team plays", varying from -5 to most defensive to +5 for most offensive.

About assigning points: When it comes to your teams in your own nation, you're free to assign them as you wish as long it's between the minimum and the maximum. In xkoranate, the standard minimum-maximum are 0 and 1, up to three decimals. You can have a very good team around 0.85, and a weaker team around 0.355 or such. It takes a little bit of trial and error.

When it comes to generate long standing rankings, people usually do spreadsheets where they collate the most recent results. Here you can see ice hockey rankings, based on the results of three most recent editions.

I haven't been here in a while, but I just have some questions about how much things have changed since about World Cup 70ish.
(Yes, I've come back on occasion, but IRL just drew me away. I'm not going into it, it's on my flag.)

The questions are:

[*]What happened with international domestic soccer? Things look massively different.
[*]What does the landscape look like re: sports regions?
[*]Any new major tournaments or changes in which sports are major or minor?

That's all the questions I have.

1) The IFCF is the organiser of the international (non-regional) tournaments. The same ones still exist, just under a (slightly) different name. A new addition is a third tier behind the Champions League and Challenger Cup - the Associations Trophy.
2) Atlantian Oceania, Rushmore, Esportiva, Anaia are the four big ones, Mandalanusa and Sonnel are not far behind.
3) Define major and minor? I don't think we've seen huge changes. Baseball has the IBS as a secondary tournament, cricket runs more regularly (and includes ODI now).

Hi, so I'm making some domestic leagues and the league tables are frustrating me, I've spent over 3 hours trying to make them work. Does anyone have any tips or a blank template I can use for a table? I've tried copypasting from others but it never lines up properly. Thanks in advance!

Are you using xkoranate? If yes, just copy your table and paste it between "pre" codes. Then, even if unaligned, this:

Code: Select all
[pre]P                                       Pld   W  L   RF  RA  RD    Win %
1 Nova Anglican Admin Zone of Esportiva   5   4  1   27  13 +14    0.800 *
2 Super-Llamaland                         5   4  1   17  13  +4    0.800
3 Le Choix                                5   2  3   17  26  −9    0.400 **
4 Kalush                                  5   2  3   14  13  +1    0.400
5 Fhulghamous Peninsula                   5   2  3   20  18  +2    0.400
6 The Licentian Isles                     5   1  4   10  22 −12    0.200[/pre]

Will become this:

P Pld W L RF RA RD Win %
1 Nova Anglican Admin Zone of Esportiva 5 4 1 27 13 +14 0.800 *
2 Super-Llamaland 5 4 1 17 13 +4 0.800
3 Le Choix 5 2 3 17 26 −9 0.400 **
4 Kalush 5 2 3 14 13 +1 0.400
5 Fhulghamous Peninsula 5 2 3 20 18 +2 0.400
6 The Licentian Isles 5 1 4 10 22 −12 0.200
