No matter how many IC posts you make in a role play thread between cutoffs, you will receive one grade which will take into account all of the posts as if they had all been part of a singular post.

It should also be noted that after a certain point, posting multiple times in an RP thread between cutoffs would probably just be considered spam. I really don't see any reason why, at most, you would need to post more than twice between cutoffs in an RP thread.

But if you posted 3 RPs in one day (which is spamming pretty much) why would you only give a user a 2 when they put the effort in to make 3 posts?

What is the difference between posting 3 paragraphs in a single post, or posting a single paragraph in 3 posts? It takes no more effort to put it all in one than it does to make 3 posts.

To use an analogy, if you are given the task of writing an essay in school, and you turn in 2 pages not stapled together, is the teacher going to treat each page as a seperate essay and double your mark? That would be stupid, and unfair on students who know how to use a stapler.

Relating to Number of RPs per Day

Postby 95X » Sun May 24, 2020 2:26 pm

As someone who's been participating in Atlantian Oceania and NS Sports competitions for over a decade ( :? ), remember that there is no absolute requirement to write RPs.

Rosters are extremely helpful to other participants and RPing can help your chances of winning but they don't guarantee winning; a well-written RP about a loss or a draw can be just as good or better than an RP about a win. A well-written short RP can be just as good or better than a lengthy one.

There are also no outright requirements that RPs have to be done in a certain way, for example someone who doesn't have inclination to spend time/effort on graphics and finding suitable image-hotlinking hosting for them don't have to. Also note that some NS users might not be able to see the graphics because of reasons like disability or using a low-bandwith and/or capped internet connection, so they have loading images turned off on their browser.

With these said, if I find myself wanting to write/post about multiple things in one day, instead of clogging up the tournament and/or RP thread with posts I'll use the horizontal line function so it's obvious I'm writing about two different things.
Code: Select all
Topic one RP.
Blabbedy blah-bhah.

Topic two RP.
Lorem ipsum doldrums.
Former RPer. More active elsewhere on NS with other nations.

Put it this way, a pile of rubbish is still as rubbish as a bit of rubbish.

I mean, I suppose you could post each word of your RP in a separate post, and so even though all the individual posts are garbage, the whole RP might be decent, but at that point it would be considered spam and treated accordingly. So please don't do that.

There are rare reasons you might need to RP multiple times in a day - I once RPed a single event that involved my character giving a speech, another nation's character giving a speech, and then mine taking the podium back and wrapping up, and so I RPed the two portions of the speech separately so the other user could RP in between and the RPs would still be in sequence, but did it all on one Matchday as it was a single event taking place over a few minutes IC-ly - but unless you have a really good reason like that, it should all be one post. If it's something more back and forth, like the interview I did with Main Nation Ministry's character a couple days ago, one user can TG the other their portion and then the other can post it in their RP with appropriate OOC credit given, rather than post each line of the interview in a separate RP. Just make sure if it's a co-hosted tournament and the other user is in the other half, that both hosts know what is going on so they can grade appropriately.

I don't know if there's a hard and fast answer to someone who posts multiple RPs on the same day because if I recall correctly, that might be something that is up to an individual host nation to decide.

Two RPs that cover different angles might be in the eye of the beholder, but, say five one-paragraph RPs might be spam, for instance and might start counting against the player.

According to the Guide, the creator of an event doesn't have to do anything other than organize the signups. Is this correct?

It's also their responsibility to run voting for host bids to decide who gets to run a tournament, but organising signups is the bulk of the work, yes.

Back in the day (and I'm talking Jolt era here) I put a few fellow baseball RPers' players in my domestic league, simmed with the OOTP game rather than scorinated. Do people still do that sort of thing? I'm trying to sim 100 years of the Hannasean Baseball League because apparently I'm a desperate wazzock with no life and thought it might add some color, but NS sport has changed a bit and it seems most people use scorinators for their domestic leagues now.

Further to what Sherpa has said: for domestic leagues, video game results are absolutely fine - especially if you're churning out historical results that will only really mean something for your own backstory and history..

For international competitions, the forum at large prefers custom-scorinated results that don't have video game influences.

How much time takes place during the WC/BoF/CoH cycle and how much time is there between each cycle?

From what I've read it is very fluid and changes between each Nation, but I wanted to check if there was something official.

Generally we've had about three World Cup cycles per RL year. A cycle starts with a BoF, continues into the qualification, and finishes with the CoH and WC held simultaneously. Usually, a cycle (from BoF to WC final) takes about 2 months (Nov 2019 all the way till the end of Jan 2020, for WC84, for instance). After that, it takes a little to open the next signups (between 1,5 and 2,5 months), for a total cycle length of around 4 months. Back in the day (like, 9+ years ago) there were more World Cups per year. There's nothing set in stone about how many of these per year we should have.

For how long a World Cup cycle lasts in your nation, that's up to you. For me, there's one World Cup per year, how unrealistic that may sound. For others, it's up to 4 years.

Ah, I see. Makes sense.

Also, if one from the two teams writes a RP about the score first, I assume that the other team doesn't need to write a RP post for the same match? Also, does the home team write the match RP first, or can it be written first by either of the two teams?

Either team can RP first.

If your opponent RPs first, you can still RP your side of the story, but make sure your RP makes sense together with theirs.

Absolutely both sides can RP about the same match - it's what makes NS Sports more fun. Whoever RPs first gets to decide what happens during the game, and the 2nd RPer of the match should respect those facts and is not allowed to change them. It doesn't mean, however, that the 2nd RPer can't present a different perspective on the match (e.g. the 2nd goal was actually offside and the goal shouldn't have stood, we had a passage of good play the other team didn't mention, etc).

It's often a good idea to ask your opponent if there was anything specific they'd like to happen in your match, but in the chaos of World Cup Qualifiers coming thick and fast, there often isn't time for that sort of working out of things.

I believe we have two main racing competitions on NS Sports, being the World Grand Prix Championships (closer to F1) and NSSCRA (closer to NASCAR). Here is the NSSCRA discussion thread and here is the WGPC discussion thread. I don't know that much about NSSCRA, so further questions would be best directed to that thread. I know that there the WGPC race season will start within a couple of months - as plans to bid have been expressed - so keep an eye out on that thread. There's also WGPC 2 and WGPC 3 (individually scored racing seasons). You can also find the scorinator for WGPC there as well.

If you want more info, or templates, it would be best to direct your queries and questions to those two threads.

Seconding this, as someone fairly experienced in the WGP scene! Feel free to pop over to the thread and have a chat; we're all friendly!

Emmet: You might see a mess -
Lord Business: Exactly: a bunch of weird, dorky stuff that ruined my perfectly good stuff!
Emmet: Okay. What I see are people, inspired by each other and by you - people taking what you made and making something new out of it.

There are a couple of people in NSSCRA who like to put together a car set in a NASCAR videogame, and then they can use screen-grabs from the game for visual RP. If a new player needs help making cars, it's usually easy to get help because they want to make the car set more complete.

Saint Kanye is probably the best person to ask.
