Does anyone have any ideas onto how to get started on hosting?

I want to host an international underwater basket-weaving tournament. Should I start a signup thread right now?
Probably not. In order to host a sports RP, you first need a working scorinator. But you'll also need the trust of the community. Regularly participating in other threads will give you know-how about how things work that'll be useful if you ever decide to start your own tournament.

So, you need a scorinator, and you need the community to like the idea, and give you feedback.
Once you have everything planned, then you can make your tournament.

That's all I can think of now......
I don't know all the rules, regulations and other things, so, if anyone has anything else to add to this, please do so.

Yeah, I read that. I don't plan on starting a competition right now, but I thought I would ask how to get started, like, how to start the thread, maybe invite people via TG? Make a previous thread somewhere asking if people would like the idea? That sort of things.

I once recall, in my CoH group I had a team of Bears. A team of the undead and a team with some very odd names. I've also played against some bigger bears. Various amounts of Ponies and scared Chickens. Whereas we're just some bionic Dutchmen

@Nyoronet: I believe there is a working F1 Scorinator, and a stock car/NASCAR equivalent one, but I'm not the man to give it to you. You'll have to ask around

How to do you make a table without the lines? I know you can do a table by pressing the button etc. but how can you do one like this for example: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3108&start=3177

Probably a really easy answer but I just can't work it out

Put your table into (pre)(/pre) tags, with brackets instead of parenthesis.
I remember when I was new here, and this had me beat

Don't know why it doesn't auto-format, but I put a dash at the beginning of the line, then delete a space to keep it even.

Wondered if people would be interested in a tour de France-like event. I've been planning a little bit on the Tour de Ko-oren, including mapped route and some other things (altitudes, length of each race, etc). I haven't seen something like this before here, so I thought it might be useful to ask first.

Also, this would be the first time scorinating anything over here despite being here for a while now (a while as in not as long as most of you, but still longer than many)!

There was a Tour de Qazox for a while but afaik there hasn't been cycling in a good long while on NS.

See below for a reply I made to a potential cycling event that was started the day after the TdF did. The scorinator stuff aside, most of the advice is still applicable, as is the encouragement.

"I knew something like this would happen with the tour starting today, this is great, but I advise you to have a look at this thread first - viewtopic.php?p=5611114#p5611114

It's a link to the mini-tour I did last year and still haven't done again because of how much work it is. In particular, check the conclusions I made at the end of the third page.

I would love to see more cycling on NSSport, but you need to know how much work it is to time, add up, take points for, all these different riders. I was spending an hour plus a night doing it all - just a fore-warning. And like Liventia says, none of the cycling scorinators in existence that I'm aware of will fit the ranking system you've put there. Xkoranate doesn't take attribute scores for each rider, and anything about 9 on Liventia's and it'll go squiffy - from experience, trust me on that one (my points winner only won one stage and won on a tie-break of GC time). Not that that's a huge issue - simply change yours to fit the scorinators, whichever one you decide to go with."

For what it's worth, I expect to do a Tour of Tyneala soon-ish with Sorth. So yes, I think the interest is there for a cycling tour.

Thanks for the reactions and the warnings... I'll keep that in mind. I'm still thinking about RP bonuses (I guess allowing one team per nation to join, so that everyone can only RP for one team. Then I'll add the bonus to all members of the team) and how to have everything still more or less possible (without 1h of work per day =/) (I'm thinking of limiting the number of teams and the number of members on each team. Instead of 9 such as in the TdF, something like 7).

Also, I'll leave for my vacation in 2 days. I just posted this to see if there was any interest, so to see if there was any merit in it for me to plan everything. I'll be back in three weeks, so the earliest signup date is by then. I'll hope to begin one week after that or so, so that's in 4 weeks probably. That is, if I don't change my mind considering the warnings by Polar Islandstates.

@ Liventia: I'm looking forward to it! I might not join because I'm gone, but I'll take it into account and maybe postpone my Tour de Ko-oren if yours has only just finished by then. Definitely seems like there is enough interest in cycling here, anyway =D

I'm talking about street racing.

The first was somewhat relevant, since you're bound to meet a non-human nation in NS Sports at some point and it's not like you can pick your fights as in other RP situations.

Anyhow, it wasn't obvious you were asking about street racing, and it's rather telling that - as far as I'm aware - a scorinator specifically for it hasn't been developed. The auto racing feature on xkoranate may satisfy your needs.

By the way, I'm intending to use xkoranates cycling - men's mass start for this. I've experimented a little bit, but whenever people start at 0,000, chances are near 100% that they will 'DNF' within three or so races.

I at least want to try to keep it simpler than Polar Islandstates' tour, I'm not intending to discern between various disciplines of the tour, for instance.

Do gotta warn ya, Ko-oren, hosting a cycling tour is tons of work. I just couldn't deal with an hour to get the individual stage done, then another hour getting the Overall times done, and the double-checking to make sure everything was correct. I'm suprised that I did as many as I did with out losing all my hair.

I would advise against using xkoranate, simply because all your stage times are going to end up very similar. At least with my scorinator you can adjust the stage times.

For a start you'll need to provide more information than you have.
There is at the moment zero indication of the tracks involved, zero indication of the length of the season, zero indication as to how RP bonus will be applied, zero indication as to how many cars will be allowed on track at once, zero indication as to how the scores will be generated and with what scorinator... I could go on.

In fact at one point you mention that you'll be using the "A rules" and then you suggested that we look them up on Wikipedia. If you want people to join, you have to provided the information so that they can, not say "come join my thing! go find out how it works from someone else!", because that doesn't work.

At the moment, all that you've really provided is a list of cars that looks more like a motor racing enthusiast making a list of cars they are passionate about rather than the signup list you want it to be. Events in NSSport have structure, and you've suggested none of that so far.

Also, a six day gap between saying "more info later" and the next post isn't likely to convince people that you're going to be a dedicated host.

There may be enough interest for a touring car series in NSSport, or they may not, but it won't spontaneously happen, hosting is about a lot more work that just providing a list of cars.
