Fencing is one of the most expected Olympic sports. Quebec & Shingoryo, Diarcesia and Lisander (aka myself) are currently the nations with more interest. Lisander once start a competition, but it was cancelled due to lack of time. Now, with Winter Olympics on the corner, I think Q&S, that is in a "hosting boogaloo", will focus on Winter Sports, so no luck for fencing in for the next weeks, at least.

NSCAA (College Basketball) is currently on Waitlist.

Winter Olympics have open signups.

Everyone else is working for the IFCF, our equivalent to UEFA Champions League, still time to scorinate your league and join.

Does anyone know around how long it will be until the next ice hockey tournament? I've done a little poking around and it seems like it hasn't happened in a while, but I could be wrong.

If I had to guess, I’d say it would start soon after the Olympics end. Tournaments usually happen every four months, but the Olympics are a big enough event (and they include hockey) that the WCoH will probably be postponed until after them.

I have not been privy to discord discussions of late, so there’s a very good chance somebody else knows more than me.

Might have missed this somewhere, but how are log points for rankings generally calculated? Does it vary by sport?

It does vary by sport, yes.

For the World Cup (of soccerfootkickball) the KPB system is used. For basketball, the system is points/group stage games + a bonus point for reaching the playoffs + 1 bonus point for each playoff game won.

In general most rankings work on a similar basis. Regional soccerfootkickball ranks typically include a scaled percentage of KPB ranks (20%?) added onto a region-specific ranking.

Hi I'm looking to get involved with sports rping. It looks like you can RP about whatever thing you like and post it in the context of the sports world so that's really cool!

I love soccer so I joined up for the World Cup, are there any other tournaments or antyhing before then? I'd like to actually RP a bit before the main thing ya know?

Are there any sporting regions accepting new people?

Thank you for any answers :)

First off welcome :)

For (association) football there are no open tournaments right now before the Baptism of Fire, for other sports you can check the threads below. I'm not sure if there are any sign-ups active right now or if all competitions have reached the stages of being in motion.

As for sporting regions, they all are always accepting new people, so you have basically free choice of which one feels the most appealing to you. I am ever so slightly biased towards Rushmore (I wonder why, lol), but you can't make any mistake with any of them, they are all active across the different sports.

I would also suggest to join our Discord, where you can get pretty much any question answered quite quickly and way more.

Thank you for the information!

I suppose I'll have to create a little friendly tournament or something if that's allowed/there's interest. International Incidents and NationStates look like dumpsterfires so I'm hoping roleplay will be more regimented here.

Rushmore does look fun! I'm a bit of a poor nation being newly founded and all that so securing economic aid is pretty much forefront in my nation's mind so I guess I'll have to take that into consideration when looking at the different regions.

This is great! Thanks again :D

Hello, wasn’t sure if this was the right place to post this or not, but I was just interested in what steps players usually take before hosting the larger tournaments on here? Most people bidding seem to have prior experience hosting these events, but how do people go about gaining the trust to do so for the first time?

You have done a good first step by participating in and RPing tournaments. Some people bid to host before ever RPing, this is what is known as a Bad Idea.

Next step: check you know how to use a scorinator. Download xkoranate and run a simulation. Best way to test this is to sim your nation's domestic league. You don't need to RP it in great detail, but just posting a set of results shows you can work the scorinator on a basic level and aren't cheating or making up results. Some people have, amazingly, tried to do this, and it is another Bad Idea.

Run a small international tournament. If you're interested in non-soccer sports you could bid to host something small in a minor sport. When I came back in 2020 I was essentially a novice reborn and I started off with the Arena Bowl, it was a good low pressure way of easing back into hosting. If you're only interested in soccer you could try running a small invitational. Otherwise your best options are to wait for the next WC cycle, and find a co-host for the Under-18WC or perhaps the IAC. Someone more experienced may be willing to work with a junior host. I don't recommend partnering with another newbie, though, double-newbie bids are a Bad Idea.

I'd also add it's a good idea to observe how hosts handle the various situations that come up in these.

Not every tournament can be run smoothly. Every host is bound to make mistakes. What you want to evaluate is how the hosts handle themselves when 1) they make a mistake and 2) they have a situation arises where they have to make a decision.

I'm sure you could also ask for feedback from experienced hosts, but if you've watched certain people host enough tournaments, you get a general idea about how they operate.

I wanted to say thank you for both your feedback. Hosting is something I’d definitely be interested in for the long run, could be interesting, but I suppose getting into the rhythm of being a regular poster/enjoying taking part is probably more important rn. Was also wondering what I could do to improve my role plays? I mean, probably spelling and grammar as I write them on my phone and don’t sense check afterwards!

If you need grammar and spelling fixes, you could give a try on Grammarly Keyboard app. Otherwise than that, there's a lot of possibilities when it comes to roleplay. If you're roleplaying as stories of people, I believe the most important is to show the people behind the athlete. If you're roleplaying more like in news sites, I think the point is convey the information as realistic as possible. You could think in a background/bias to your newspaper/blog/website, as I made on this post, for example: Female goals is a modern-oriented blog focused in football played by women.
