Background
Pasarga was formed by the refugees of a fallen empire following the invasion of a steppe people that trampled over their defenses and armies, forcing them into exile. They traveled for several months across land and see before they came upon a pair of uninhabited islands in the northwest of what they would later found out to be the region of Rushmore. Wishing to cast aside their failures, the citizens abandoned the majority of their former culture, including a hard line adaption of local names from the region, though they retained their old religious practice of worshiping the Sacred Fire.

Following their settlement, the citizens decided to call themselves Pasargans after a fashion of those that they encountered on their sojourn calling them the Pariis. It was a tribute to what they had endured but also the promise of what could be rebuilt again. Rather than returning to a warlike people, they turned towards a cultural and spiritual way of life, keeping themselves mostly isolated from the outside world, apart from participation in the events like the World Cup.

Though many centuries have passed since they arrived in Rushmore, the nation has never quite returned to their former culture or ways, with it being only recently that some people have started using traditional names from their former empires once again. Instead they have turned to trade and sport as a way of measuring success, branching out of their shell if ever so slightly at first before more openly in the last few decades. The rural regions of the nation still strongly are mistrustful of foreigners and believe that little good can come them, with cities a necessary evil to conduct business, though that is a train of thought that is becoming scarcer in the modern age.

Pasargans are kindly people, more unto one another than those from abroad whom they view with some skepticism, and to be rude or impolite is seen as a major cultural faux pax even to those you do not hold in high regard. Lashing out with violence or raising your voice in anger or frustration is also considered taboo among Pasargans, who over time have master the art of sarcastic politeness in a form of malicious compliance against those they consider their rivals or not adhering to social norms. If you encounter a Pasargan who appears to be getting snarky or sassy with you, it likely is a result of you trespassing on one of the social norms of the nation.

Map of Pasarga

Weather
Pasarga enjoys a relatively mild and jungle-esque climate throughout the majority of the islands. Notable exceptions are Troubalose and Lunas which both are a few degrees cooler on average than the rest of the nation due to the northern peninsula positions against the cold waters of the Alban Strait. During summer, the majority of the nation averages a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit, though with humidity averaging around sixty to eighty percent depending upon how close to the mountains and coast you are.

Transportation
While cars are not banned, it is preferred that the citizenry use the various forms of mass transit provided by the government to do their inner city travel. Light rail (including trolleys/cable cars), subways, as well as a bus system provide routes and stops to get to most locations within any of the major cities. Torgos, Targas, Paulinthal, Stein-los, Lunas, and Stilinkeep are all home to international airports for those wishing to fly into the country while most major cities have a smaller airport for domestic travel within the dual islands. Torgos, Lunas, and Paulinthal also are the three major ports of Pasarga and are well adjusted for any influx of passengers that route.

Stadia
Stade de Torgos (Torgos) - 90,000
The crown jewel of Pasargan footballing stadium, it is both the national stadium and the stadium of the club side Galatica. It was built to be a monument to the prowess that the Pasargan people can achieve whenever they put their minds to it and show the rest of the footballing community that they belong. Located in the heart of the capital, it is easy to reach from anywhere within the city and the noise created inside the stadium has been known to shake surrounding buildings whenever the Wanderers are playing.
Fixtures: MD1 - Pasarga v Concordia, MD 2 - Bonusia v Zenic, MD3 - Kwrpania v Pasarga, Final

Stadium of the Moon (Lunas) - 84,000
Lunas is the de facto capital on Peynol, the largest city on the second island, as well as the one with the most wealth. It suffers from dreadfully cool temperatures compared to the rest of the nation due to its location out on the peninsula. This has hardened the citizens who live in Lunas, who call themselves the "Kings of the Strait", with the Alban Strait to their north. There is also a great devotion to the moon in Lunas, as the largest of the stadium suggests, with crescents found in various art forms across the city. There is a very spiritual feel in Lunas and football itself is something of a ritual, with the walk from the "Stalking Dragon", the largest pub, to the stadium every weekend there is a match. Visitors are encouraged to partake in these rituals or at least be respectful of them.
Fixtures: MD1 - Captina Island v Oberour Ar Moro, MD2 - Pasarga v Taeshan, MD3 - Tikariot v Eastfield Lodge, 3PPo

Telathron (Targas) 72,000
One of the three stadiums being used that has retractable roofs, Telathron is located in the former footballing capital of the nation. Telathron was built as a supposed rival to Stade de Torgos to compete as the national stadium, but the arena feel to the stadium made it lose out. Despite that, it is still a modern stadium that offers the capability to keep the temperatures during the games at a comfortable seventy-five degrees whenever the roof is closed.
Fixtures: MD1 - The Kytler Peninsulae v Nyowani Kitara, MD2 - Sanford v Pridnestrovia, MD3 - Zenic v Airannia

Kilmonarch (Stein-los) - 72,000
Stein-los welcomes any and all travelers to its borders with open arms. Long since believed to be the footballing capital of the nation, usurping the title from both Torgos and Targas, the chance to host the World Cup has the Stein-losians ecstatic. Kilmonarch, the best of which Stein-los has to offer, is a stadium built just a short twenty or so years before with all the latest amenities meant to attract UICA final bids that never really formulated. All the same, this football crazy city is ready to put on a show for all those who are sent to play matches in their jewel.
Fixtures: MD1 - Zenic v Bohr, MD2 - Olastor v The Kytler Peninsulae, MD3 - Chromatika v Sandford

Taltron Park (Torgos) - 66,000
Home to perhaps the most successful of the three capital clubs in Baskita FC, Taltron is the stadium usually forgotten in the capital. It is neither as big nor as fancy as Stade de Torgos, but located within a city park itself, it offers a serene surrounding and tranquil environment. Even the games inside the stadium are less rowdy than the rest of the city and nation.
Fixtures: MD1 - Taeshan v Kwrpania, MD2 - Cpatina Islands v Knights Who Say Ni, MD3 - Nyowania Kitara v Olastor

San Daros (Paulinthal) - 64,000
Home to the famous, or infamous depending upon where you're from, CA Paulinthal. San Daros is a stadium that intimidates it opposition, with the away locker room purposely being built to only 400 square feet in order to unnerve the opposing team before the match even begins. Being a port city, Paulinthal is home to a large immigrant city, but in particularly a very large hispanic population. As such, it is not uncommon to hear a variety of accents of Spanish and even Portuguese being spoken while walking the streets, as well as other vestiges of hispanic culture like taquerias and mariachi bands.
Fixtures: MD1 - Olastor v Qusmo, MD2 - Qusmo v Nyowani Kitara, MD3 - Darmen v Three Golden Kingdoms

Stilinkeep Stadium (Stilinkeep) 64,000
The second of the retractable roof stadiums, it offers the same services that Telathron does but in the comforts of Peynol's most diverse city. Filled with immigrants from all over the known world, Stilinkeep is a diverse and culturally rich city. Museums and art galleries dot its downtown sector as well as a rustic feel to the city with many of the original buildings built of brick still standing despite more modern facilities and sectors popping up around the city. It is truly a melting pot of different ideas and cultures that have found a balance between the old and the new, much the same as their stadium shows.
Fixtures: MD1 - Knights Who Sai Ni v Kordavia, MD2 - Oberour Ar Moro v Kordavia, MD3 - Bohr v Bonusia

Silverthal (Torgos) 60,000
Not nearly as impressive on first glance as the Stade de Torgos, nonetheless Silverthal is itself quite a magnificent stadium in the nation's capital. Home to Fetherdron United, the stadium is unfortunately constantly bouncing back and forth between the first and second tier of Pasargan football as the Eagles are something of the yo-yo club. Located more in the inner city of the capital, it is surrounded by both residential areas as well as numerous examples of Pasargan culture for visitors to enjoy before or after a match.
Fixtures: MD1 - Pridestrovia v Chromatia, MD2 - Norrhem v Chromatika, MD3 - Kordavia v Captina Island

Stein-los Stadium (Stein-los) 59,000
Despite being home to the least popular of the three major clubs from Stein-los, Stein-los stadium is the oldest stadium to be used. Despite its age, it still is one of the treasures in the nation, with its seats draped in the green of Club Stein-los and the Smoking Brickhouse pub that is attached to the stadium's north end, making it a must see destination to all football purists and tourists visiting Pasarga.
Fixtures: MD1 - Darmen v Tikariot, MD2 - Concordia v Kwrpania, MD2 - Knights Who Say Ni v Oberour Ar Moro

Albrecht Road (Stein-los) 57,000
Being the home of Stein-los Turkish, the sister club of once famous Albrecht Turkish, Albrecht Road was named after the sister club and designed with Canderlarian architecture in mind. The locale is supplied with food and art from the nation to the northwest, to give even more homage to the once great club for with the stadium is named.
Fixtures: MD1 - Eastfield Lodge v Three Golden Kingdoms, MD2 - Eastfield Lodge v Darmen, MD3 - Pridnestrovia v Norrhem

Stadium of the Sun (Belja) 56,000
The second largest stadium in Peynol, the Stadium of the Sun is home to FC Belja in the southern tip on Peynol's central region. Belja has a very humid climate that many traveling players find difficult to play in, while it provides the sort of year round comfortable temperatures that make it a popular winter retreat for those looking to escape the cold season. While not as rich as Lunas, nor as historical significant as Stilinkeep, Belja still stands as a testament to how far Pasarga has come with its diverse array of food selections and the calm demeanor that so often comes by the sea.
Fixtures: MD1 - Sanford v Norrhem, MD2 - Three Golden Kingdoms v Tikariot, MD3 - The Kytler Peninsulae v Qusmo

Crescent Park (Lunas) 50,000
From one of the oldest stadiums, to one of the more recent one, Crescent Park is located near the waterfront in Lunas and home to Peynol-Lunas. The stadium has many modern amenities, including a retractable roof that was installed for use with the city being somewhat infamous for its peculiar weather that includes strong storms coming in from the north. For fans of modern comfort while watching a game, this is the place to be.
Fixtures: MD1 - Bonusia v Airannia, MD2 - Airannia v Bohr, MD3 - Taeshan v Concordia

Football is the by far most popular sport in Tikariot. The Tikariot Premier League is the highest tier of the Tikariotian football pyramid and is one of the most competitive leagues in the multiverse.
With 12 World Cup participations, Tikariot is part of the Rushmorean sub-region of Pavola.

Image
The fans of the Snowy Owls, called the Dark Tide, also deserve particular mention. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick-off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a lone drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied by a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Image
Brian McAllister - 55
After having been assistant to now former coach Stuart Ekstrom, Brian McAllister made the move to Sargossa and enjoyed a lot more success than his former mentor, having two Copa Rushmori victories under his belt. With him, the Snowy Owls continue to utilize their flexible 4-3-3, in which the fullbacks can push forward and the wingers drop back depending on the game situation, add unpredictability.

Belja, Pasarga. Also known as Tikariot’s headquarters for Copa Rushmori 51. As the team steps off the plane, several players give off a collective groan due to the humidity slapping them right in the face the moment they walk down the air stairs.

“Oh by the gods, what is this? If I want to go into a sauna, I will go to the spa at the hotel…” Cassandra says. “And we’re using this as the training camp?”

“Indeed,” Coach MacAllister grins. “And before you ask why, if we can function in this climate, we can function anywhere.”

Motyka gives him a vicious side eye. “Bold to assume we’ll function in this one in the first place.”

A snort draws the attention. Anna-Sofia sighs. “Quit complaining. I’m Viljan. A heatwave in Fort Viljan is considered nice and moderate in most other parts of Tikariot. Imagine what this does to me!”

****

The training centre is a compound not far from the shoreline, guaranteeing humidity galore, but, in turn, an almost permanent breeze. It consists of a decently sized dorm area, large common area, fully air-conditioned indoor training facilities and two outdoor pitches in pristine condition.

The team is still settling in when a woman in a very colourful t-shirt enters through the front doors, immediately looking around.

Solfroy nudges Motyka. “Look what just wandered in. Doesn’t look like a fan, official or journalist.”

Wiołeta turns toward the entrance. “Nope, she doesn’t. She seems to be--, uh oh.”

The woman sees her, immediately puts on a smile and saunters over. Immediately, Wiołeta discreetly looks around for an escape route, but, in the end, stays put.

“Wiołeta Motyka, Chaos Incarnate, just who I was looking for,” the woman beams.

“Aaaaand who is looking for me?”

“Thunderforge Studios, of course!”

Motyka raises an eyebrow. “That is a lot less helpful than you might think, young lady.”

Solfroy snorts a laugh. “‘Young lady?’ Wio, you are 23, not sure you’re in a position to call her that.”

The woman looks at Motyka in astonishment. “What do you mean that is not helpful?”

“Because I have no idea who or what Thunderforge Studios are.”

“Uh,” the woman clearly did not expect this turn of events. “Storm of the Lights Bane?”

“Nope.”

“Forsaken Legends?”

Motyka shakes her head again.

“Do you play computer games?” the woman finally asks.

“Not really. I mean, I played the World Cup series of games, but beyond that, not really.”

The woman’s gast is properly flabbered. “Oh, uh, alright then, that is, hm, unexpected.”

Daniel Sankalin and Mikael Danderyd, the two Fort Viljan players commonly known as Dan and San, approach. “Someone giving problems?”

The young woman looks at them with growing unease as she feels increasingly outnumbered. “No, no, I’m not here to create problems!”

“Oh, Miss van der Laan, nice to see you could make it!” All heads swivel toward the voice of the Tikariotian team’s media liaison Nick Cunningham.

“And you are?” Motyka asks him.

He looks at her just as befuddled as Miss van der Laan had. “You don’t know me?”

Motyka sighs. “Look, we have so many people in, out and all around, it’s hard to keep track of all of you, alright?”

He lifts both hands. “Alright, fair. I’m Nick Cunningham, media liaison for the Tikariot national team. I’m here to handle PR and more.”

“Alright, so I am assuming Miss van der Laan is part of ‘and more?’” Solfroy asks.

“Yes. She is from Thunderforge Studios, one of Tikariot’s prime game studios.”

“Storm of the Light’s Bane, Forsaken Legends, yadda yadda, yes, we know,” Motyka says with some slight impatience.

Cunningham’s face lights up. “Oh, so you are familiar with--”

“No.”

His smile falters for a moment. “Oh, ehm, alright then. Thunderforge is branching out from video games into table-top games. They’re currently prototyping a new table-top rpg, role playing game, named Runeborn Chronicles, and we think that it would be an awesome opportunity to run a campaign with some players here, give it an independent test run, of course recorded and all. How does that sound?”

Solfroy tilts her head. “So, you want us to play an rpg campaign here during the Copa Rushmori in some sort of a promotion?”

“Yes, yes, exactly!”

“And that’s all cleared with the coaching staff and all?”

“Yes, of course, why would you--”

“Because we’re here to play a tournament…? You know, the reason we’re in this sauna?”

“Okay, okay, okay. So, yes, we talked to coach MacAllister, and he has given us the green light, as long as it does not interfere with training sessions or otherwise create too big of a distraction. How it would go, we’d need six of you for a full campaign. The game master would come from Thunderforge as they, obviously, know everything about the game.”

“And how long would you guesstimate one of these campaigns will take?”

Miss van der Laan looks a little sheepish. “Well, a full campaign would take probably a few months…”

“I beg your pardon?”

“Months, yes, but, but, but, we’d run a beginner’s campaign, of course, so that should only be five to twelve sessions, three to four hours each, so…”

Solfroy holds up a hand. “If you could excuse me for a moment?”

Miss van der Laan snaps her mouth shut as the redhead breaks away from the group, beelining for the coaching staff. Assistant coach Harlings nudges MacAllister, who turns around and immediately takes a tentative step backward.

“Coach, a word?” Solfroy says with her sweetest voice.

“Yes, of course, what’s up?”

“Did you sign us up for some promotional roleplaying campaign thing that will last a few weeks?”

“What do you mean ‘weeks?’”

“You know, the time unit between days and months?”

“Yes, I am aware what a week is, but I don’t follow.”

“Miss van der Laan over there just told us that this campaign thing is estimated to be about five to twelve sessions of three to four hours each.”

“They are THAT long??”

“Ah, so we made a decision without knowing all the facts. Gotcha. Thank you.”

She turns around on her heel and marches back to the group. “We’re in.”

****

The day after, the sextet of Wiołeta Motyka, Solfrid Frøya Fiskerstrand-Kyvåg, Andarra and Socorra Belfrage and Dan and San walk into one of the side rooms and do a double-take as it feels as if stepping into a different world. The walls are covered in what looks like stone and moss, there are runestones everywhere, some of them glowing, the table appears to be hand-carved from a slab of wood.

“Damn…” Motyka says, looking around wide-eyed. “I will say, this looks way cooler than I expected.”

The others agree as they take in the setting. To the side is a cabinet with what looks like books and boxes with the Runeborn Chronicles logo on them, there are lights and cameras and on the far end of the room an area that looks suspiciously like a wardrobe. Miss van der Laan squeaks as she sees the group and rushes over.

“Ohmygodohmygodohmygod, you really came, you’re really here, this is really happening! Oh, this is going to be so… so… so…” She looks like she is about to faint from excitement any moment. Daniel puts his arm around her shoulder and gently steers her back toward the wardrobe area.

“So you’re going all out with costumes and everything?” His voice is smooth and calming, apparently hitting some chord with the young woman, who immediately snaps out of whatever she was about to get caught up in, and starts bubbling over with all the cool stuff they have for the team.

Andarra grins. “That was smooth, very smooth.”

****

Not long after, six fully costumed figures sit around the table, with a young man sitting at the head of it, obviously the Game Master. The lights are on, cameras are rolling.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of Tikariot, may I introduce you to the world of Runeborn Chronicles, set in an alternative reality of Tikariot as we know it. These brave adventurers are joining us on a journey into a world of runes and magic, triumph and tragedy, life and death.

Over here, we have Dan, a Runeblade, the frontline warrior, the iconic knight of Tikariot. He does not cast spells but engraves the runes directly into his weapons and armour.”

“Hold up, hold up, I have to carve runes into my sword? What if I miss??”

“Next to him, Mikael, Rune Templar. He is the holy warrior, who believes that the First Runes were gifts from the gods and he uses sacred inscriptions to heal, bless, exorcise and protect.

Then there is Solfrid, a Glyphseer, making her a scholar and prophet. She can read ancient inscriptions and hidden patterns, so she doesn’t throw fireballs but rather understands reality, using divination, detection, counter-rune magic and more.”

“Does that mean I can counter Motyka?”

“Uh, why would you do that?”

“Ah, I see, you don’t know her. Oh, you’ll learn, my friend, you will learn.”

“Uh, this is--, I’m… Okay then… On the other side, there are Andarra and Socorra. Andarra is our Runesmith, our master craftswoman. She creates permanent rune items. Every legendary weapon of Tikariot began in the forge of a Runesmith. Socorra is a wildspeaker, a keeper of nature. The forests are carved with living runes, she understands them. She does not command nature, however, she negotiates with it.”

Solfroy nods. “That tracks.”

“And finally, Wiołeta. She chose to be a Voidwalker. The holder of forbidden knowledge, the most dangerous class in Runeborn Chronicles.”

Motyka cackles, “Voidwalker. Sounds healthy!"

Solfroy points at her, looking at the Game Master. “And that’s why I need to be able to counter her.”

Motyka looks at her indignantly. “Hey, have I ever done anything dubious?”

The entire group says in unison. “Yes.”

“Oh, come on…”

The Game Master now looks around the table, his polished introduction completely derailed. He briefly pinches the bridge of his nose. “Right, where was I? She, uh, studies runes that should never be spoken, void, time, reality, fear, which promise rapidly growing power, but also the inherent risk of corruption.

This is the world of Runeborn Chronicles.”

Twenty-two knights (in base eight due to shrinkflation), at least some of whom know how to play football (oh, and Patsy)
Sir Brian
Sir Lancelot
Sir Robin-not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot
Sir Visit Sweden
Sir There Are Lots Of Møøse
Sir Romani Ite Domum
Sir Milt Q. Llama III
Sir Galahad the Colorblind
Sir Deja Vu
Sir Cularreasoning
Sir Yes Sir
Sir Bors
Sir Bedevere
Sir Could We Talk To You For A Few Minutes About Our Lord And Savior Margaret
Sir #21
Sir Deja Vu
Sir Net
Sir Hwat Is Your Name
Patsy (goalkeeper)

Style Modifier: 40 * Champernowne's Constant

Sir I'm Not Done Talking About Møøse, Sir Reg Llama of Brixton, and Sir Insert Name Here all walked into a bar and unfortunately are not capable of playing for this cycle's Coping Rushmoris [That's what it's called, isn't it? - editor]. They have been replaced by Sir Net, Sir Romani Ite Domum, and Sir Hwat Is Your Name, respectively but disrespectfully. The side will continue to be managed by Sir Duke, who has his work cut out for him considering the clashing personalities of this team - he did do himself a favor, though, by not calling up Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Roster.

The knights rarely stick to an established formation, each one preferring to go off on their own as knights errant do in their natural habitat, but they have been seen adopting something akin to a 3-4-3 in the past. This is very dependent on which ten knights are on the field at any given time, however; if Sir Hwat Is Your Name is on the field, for example, the knights can often be seen shifting into a more defensive style of play, in extreme circumstances even a 5-3-2 that only aims to park the bus (though they do not have buses, so it would have to be park the horse (though the budget ran out of horse money, so it would have to be park the coconut)).

Some knights only come on under specific circumstances; Sir Deja Vu, for example, is one of those. Sir Lancelot and Sir Romani Ite Domum often take the same role, that being a principal attacker, so Sir Romani Ite Domum is usually brought on only when a goal really needs to be scored. Another example of a specialized player is Sir Cularreasoning, who only plays during the minutes that Sir Cularreasoning plays. In contrast, players like Sir Bedevere, Sir Could We Talk To You For A Few Minutes About Our Lord And Savior Margaret, and Sir Brian are often on the pitch for all ninety minutes, with the second of those renowned for their ability to change the pace of play. Of course, we cannot forget to discuss the fact that some knights only come on under specific circumstances; Sir Deja Vu, for example, is one of those.

The knights will attempt to take the field in full armor. Upon being told that that is not permitted, they will attempt to take the field by force. Upon being prevented from taking the field by force, they will begrudgingly don uniforms. Because they planned for wearing armor, they may end up just making use of your own alternative uniforms; in the event that they do have uniforms, they will likely play in blue. The keeper will also play in blue - no, wait, they will play in yellow. The knights have not been instructed beyond vaguely "blue", so they may show up in anything ranging from teal to periwinkle to navy, and they have not been instructed as to the shape of the uniform, either. Sir Galahad the Colorblind once showed up in a hot pink bikini. We are not entirely sure why, because he is red/green colorblind and thus blue is still a distinct color to him. We are also not entirely sure why Sir Duke has designated him as the team's driver.

Some are concerned at the reduction of outfield players from 2210 to 228 from last Copper Rushmür to this one, and the premier extrapolatory knights have shown that if this continues, by Corporate Roshambo 2226 the base will be so small as to cause a paradox. They have been informed by the Syndicalist-Niite Round Table, Football Division, that who cares for the opinions of a bunch of nerds, and they, quote, do not know about you, but they are feeling twenty-two, unquote.

RP permissions are all yes - godmodding both game and other events is outright encouraged, as long as it is done in a way that does not disrupt the host.

Tactics:
Manager Geraldo Rys and his assistants Mara Tapi and Toms Elwin have decided to implement a slightly aggressive 3-5-2 formation during their tenure as Zenic's national team staff. This formation is intended to maximize the wingbacks' strengths without neutralizing the rest of the team's impact. The young wingbacks' stamina allows them to go forward and cautiously assist in attack to create goal-scoring chances while still being able to get back and provide numbers to stop opposition scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the Center-backs, Central Midfielders and Forwards create a solid pillar through the heart of the pitch that is intended to both be an alternative route to goal scoring and a multi layered obstruction to the opponents.

Survivors Shakeup more of a "Nice Haircut" than a 'Complete Makeover'

As we all expected, there are new members to the small group of chosen athletes to represent the Empire of Zenic's national futbol team. This was always going to be the beginning of the shift from the Revival Generation to a new generation but we could only speculate how drastic the change would be. Turns out, it will be a much more gradual changing of the guard than most expected.

Thuan Byford, Burley Trac, Lew Anton, and Cecil Maruscak will be forever remembered for their contributions to Zenician futbol: once-off World Cup visitors to a World Cup constant, the spread of Zenician excellency across club futbol around the world, and the Empire's first major title (the Copa Rushmori) since the Baptism of Fire title. Thankfully, they have all announced their continued participation in club futbol so we won't be saying farewell forever and can look forward to watching them dazzle on the pitch across the world. And who's to say how close or far their post- full retirement lives will take them from futbol in general? We might even see some of them in front office roles or even join the FZF or Ministry of Sports.

Now, we say hello there the newest members of the Survivors: Gastone Ewart, Válter Geovana Couto, Atanasio Borja, and the first ever woman to represent the national team, Martina Fátima. Ewart and Couto join their fellow Deportivo San Valerie teammate, Kian Hodge, after their impressive performances in the last couple of seasons. Then, there's Fátima, the first and certainly not the last woman to ever join the national team, who has been a consistent part of Reichton SC's dominance of the ZFLS and trips to the IFCF. Borja is the most interesting of the choices by Zys and the Survivors staff: Ewart and Couto will have nice rapport with each other and Hodge, which should ease the transition and Fátima is accustomed to finding quality shots and keeping her goal tally high while playing alongside a high-caliber scorer like Gentile. Atanasio Borja, meanwhile, is the youngest of the bunch and plays a similar style to Seamons than Devor despite playing on the same side as the rambunctious perpetual motion machine. Whether this is an experiment to try out having well-defined alternate strategies once subs come in or a shift to a more neutral midfield to retain midfield dominance is something only Zys and his staff truly know.

The Survivors' first test during this initial phase of the transition will be none other than the 51st Copa Rushmori. It was almost certainly intentional to begin this process during the regional tournament as staying close to home will certainly mitigate any travel or cultural adjustment factors that could prevent the Empire from fully evaluating these new representatives and how well they mesh with the rest of the national team. Up first is Bohr to open up their tournament while staying at Stein-los. A victory there will be important as they'll need to travel to the capital, Torgos, in order to face off against their toughest opponent of Group C, Bonusia. But Zenic will need to be careful and make sure they don't head to Targas by mistake until the 3rd and final matchday of the Copa, where they will do battle with Airannia.

Barring some kind of catastrophically toxic situation within the Survivors camp or debilitating travel and boarding situation during the tournament, Zenic should continue their successful streak of visits to the Copa knockout rounds, although it will take some effort to ensure they do so as group winners instead of just group runner-ups. But all eyes will truly be on the four newest members to see how well they integrate into Zys' system and how well they mesh with these legends they will be standing alongside.

The Copa Rushmori was the launchpad that skyrocketed the Revival Generation into the legendary squad they became. Maybe Rushmori will be generous to the premier nation of The Vatmark once more.

Manager: Igor Topić, age 54
Assistant: Lazar Meier, age 53

Goalkeepers
GK: Shu'ayb Ammar Essa, age 30, Stein-los Turkish
GK: Óskar Aronsson, age 27, Algolia AC Image
GK: Elizabet Gábor, age 28, Galatica (F)

A lackluster showing in the Finals as well as his domestic campaign has Óskar not as the number one heading into the regional championship, instead sitting as the backup at least to start the tournament. Given the domestic season that Essa had to help Stein-los Turkish to take the SuperLiga title, it is understandable why the young keeper has at least temporarily lost the number one shirt. Essa brings in a few more years of veterancy to the position, a bit more calm under pressure, and of course coming off one of the best domestic season performances in recent memory. Not as great with the ball at the feet, they are however a top notch goalstopper and that is maybe what the Wanderers are in need of to help steady the back end of the team. Should Essa fail to live up to the hype, it likely will be a short leash and Óskar back in as the number one, even if the domestic form in Squornshelous has not been quite what one would be hoping from the former wonderkid.

Defenders
LW/LB: Cyril Aragón, age 27, CA Paulinthal
LB: Alzubra Zain Morcos, age 29, Stein-los Turkish (F)
CB: Vilmos Ferenczy, age 27, CA Paulinthal
CB/MC: Frédéric L'Anglais, age 27, Club ESF Image
CB/RB: Sumaiyah Rida Abboud, age 30, Pontmeosont Image (F)
CB/DMC: Wolfgang Schmid, age 27, Galatica
CB/LB: Ingileif Böðvarsdóttir, age 30, Wirr Tsi Image (F)
RB/LB: Katie Sherwin Image, age 30, Myana Image (F)
RB: Avelaine Aubin, age 27, Anomalies Image (F)

The backline sees a bit of change from the one that took to the field a month ago, as both starting centerbacks are not on the team and instead a gaggle of twenty-seven year olds have been called up to try and add a bit of energy and youthful legs into the defense. Sherwin on the right flank though keeps her place with how perfectly well she fits into the system as well as excelling at Myana. Cyril Aragón is a bit of an odd fit tactically but his talent is so obvious that it is hard for Igor to ignore, even if Cyril does like to get forward in the attack more than the manager would like. Vilmos Ferenczy translates one of the best defensive campaigns of the SuperLiga history into a starting role and the winning culture that CAP instills into their players should hopefully rub off a bit through him to the rest of the team, while L'Anglais is able to turn a move into Valanora into not just a spot on the team but a starting position. That might be because he is good enough with the ball at his feet to help play out of the back if that is how the team decides to play. Ingileif stays as the veteran presence who has earned a high profile move to Chromatika as she looks to prolong her national team career in playing in the most challenging league there is at the moment.

Midfielders
RW: Daniela Zagorec, age 27, CA Paulinthal (F)
RW: Christina Schäfer, age 26, Latrobe Athletic Image (F)
A/MC: Tarján Ságy, age 27, Royal Jam FC Image
D/MC: Jóhanna Steindórsdóttir, age 27, Stein-los Turkish (F)
D/MC: Oszkar Smid, age 26, Ostissiennes Image
MC: Miklós Vass, age 27, Avidë
A/MC: Treszka Kovách, age 25, Burnaby SC Image (F)
ST/LW/AMC: Mór Buday, age 30, Herzegovina City FC Image
A/ML: Dominik Szatmáry, age 27, Stein-los Turkish

Despite some highs and lows during the qualification cycle and the Finals, most of the midfield remains unchanged from the team that took to the field a month prior. Zagorec on the right hand side is the perfect sort of winger that you want to play up and down the pitch but not over commit to an attack, leaving the space behind her completely exposed. Pair that with excellent crossing and passing and she is a dream on the right while Buday on the left has proven time and time again that his talent and technique are among the best on the team as well as being a threat to cut in from out wide to score. Ságy gets to keep the role as the primary playmaker and it is a role that they are comfortable in, having to week in and week out at club level find the intricate passes needed to break down defensive blocks in the Eastfielder league. Jóhanna as the deep lying maker is also there to provide cover for the backline and help in the transition of defense to attack. Smid, Vass, and Kovách behind the starting pair in the middle offer a bit off the bench but all three are relatively untested at the international level, as is Schäfer backing up Zagorec on the right, which hopefully will not be an issue when and if they are called upon..

Strikers
ST: Tímea Szôllôsi, age 26, Stein-los Turkish (F)
AMC/ST: Alexander Szôlösi, age 30, Galatica
ST: Musa Diya Seif, age 27, Kirkenes FC Image
ST: Firenze Szathmáry, age 25, Auprussia NF Image (F)
ST: Christian Meister, age 30, Hellinic Rouge

Despite the great individual talent that both of the strikers had the lack of consistency and being over thirty has seen them not selected for the tournament and instead both Szôllôsis are put up front. Alexander is a strong, traditional center forward who can bring the rest of the attack into play with his hold up play, while Tímea, the two not being related, is an out and out goalscorer. The golden boot winner in the most recent SuperLiga season en route to the title, she is a fiesty little striker who knows how to get into good scoring positions and convert more often than not. Seif's development in Kelssek has done wonders for the striker and he is likely to be the first option off the bench in the need of added attack when chasing. Meister is a lot more like Alexander in the way he plays the game but not quite as talented and a bit of a late bloomer when it came to reaching the heights of his ability. The wildcard of the selection group is Firenze Szathmáry who kind has exploded onto the scene out of nowhere with a great domestic campaign in Auprussia and offers a little bit of everything while seemingly becoming a great goalscoer in the process.

Tactics
Image
Igor Topić is not looking to reinvent the wheel with his promotion from the U21 team to the senior team, he will look to play the traditional Pasargan 4-4-2, though with a few tweaks of his own. Both midfielders will be asked to be a playmaker as well as provide defensive cover for the backline. The backline is simply there to defend, flying fullbacks are not part of his system, as both he and Meier come from a defensive background playing in the national team has defenders in their playing days. That could be cause for concern for what is already a streaky attack who will now be asked to hold up the play more to bring the midfield into the attack rather than look to capitalize off quick transitions and turnovers, as well as lots of through balls to run on to.

Captain: Katie Sherwin
Corner Taker: Daniela Zagorec
Set Pieces: Tarján Ságy
Penalties: Alexander Szôlösi

A new era necessitates a new head of the team, and after an attempt at wooing Shansco Athletic's Aiden Wallace fell through, the job has fallen to Oscar Jones, the most successful (unemployed) man available. Jones was a central midfielder during Bohr's first professional era, an ultra-intelligent if somewhat boring passer who covered for flashier stars on both Becis City and the national team. In his first top-level season as a manager, he returned to Becis City and completed the largest comeback in BCF history, somehow stealing the title from Heavenly Princess's noses after being eleven points down with eight to play. That was eight years ago, and he's had approximately zero decent results since, but he's always had a certain cachet with the media, who assume that all understated water-carriers are future great managers. Tactically, he likes the 4-2-2-2, a sort of mid-point between the college classic 4-4-2 and the southern-style 4-3-2-1 "wedge"-a traditional back four with full-backs who can attack but aren't wing-backs necessarily, two defensive midfielders who play a similar role that Jones once did, and a pair of "wingfielders" behind the strikers who have room to advance either on the outside or centrally. Much like Jones's hiring, it's a style that satisfies everyone and pleases no one. His in-game managerial style has a bit of "no-subs-itis", although with Jones it seems like it's less that he's slow to react and more that he really wants to give his starters a chance to adapt and problem-solve, and he's willing to make solid tactical adjustments accordingly.

The Players:
Goalkeepers:
Arnold Harrow (vice-captain), age 36, Motan FC: 35 caps
Klein Morel, age 31, SC Troubalose Image: 6 caps
Evan Willis, age 27, Colside Mechanic: 0 caps

Harrow remains the first choice, as he's been for the entire new Bohrian era-not bad for someone who only started playing organized football after his twentieth birthday. It helps, of course, when you're bigger (6'8") and longer (allegedly a 7'6" wingspan) than everyone else, but over his decade at Motan he's gradually gone from a pure "how the fuck did he get to that" shot-stopper to a more well-rounded keeper, although he'll never be mistaken for a sweeper or anything. Behind him is Morel, who lacks Harrow's physical gifts but brings his own intensity and command to the table; nobody is more willing to dive into a crowd of bodies to claim a corner or a cross, and nobody is more likely to have his swears of frustration picked up on the TV mics after giving up a goal. Third keeper Willis, who replaced Morel at Mechanic, is a solid all-rounder (his hands are annoyingly bad, although it doesn't seem to get him in trouble that much) who, under the club's new system, has become much more of a high-risk high-reward passer and break-starter from his own box. He's not great at it and still has the occasional easy giveaway, but it's theoretically an option.

Defenders:
Pete Warnor, LB, age 35, St. Natasha Pyramid: 27 caps, 1 assist
Daniel Lewis, CB, age 30, Shansco Athletic: 0 caps
Robert McKay, CB, age 27, Heavenly Princess: 7 caps
Quincy Sunday, RB/RW, age 23, Donrod City: 0 caps
Amine Bouquet, LB, age 29, Crimsonhawke FC Image: 29 caps, 1 assist
Marc Noren, CB, age 24, Wannick FC (Tikariot dual-national): 0 caps
Cain Calais, CB, age 24, Motan FC: 0 caps
Benn Wheatle, CB/LB, age 25, St. Natasha Pyramid: 0 caps
Evela-Gavax Den, RB, age 28, Motan FC (Qusmo dual-national): 15 caps, 1 assist

The defense has the largest question marks of anywhere on the field; the erstwhile center-back trio of Haider, Girard, and Soto are all well and truly retired, while RB Matty Garnett, thought of as the country's best young talent at one time, badly ruptured his ACL at Leaside and hasn't been the same since his return. In contrast, Pete Warnor is a player who is seemingly invincible; thought to have lost a step after Pyramid's back-to-back titles, he instead just kept on churning out top-class seasons, never getting hurt or taking a week off, staying fitter than any 35-year-old man should be and shutting down wingers with the same bag of tricks he's always had. Lewis and McKay are also a study in contrasts-Lewis went from "solid second-tier defender" to "best center-back in BCF" overnight, and is still somewhat of a closed book. The only thing most fans do know about him is that he's seemingly always in the right place at the right time, and seems to take a special pleasure in blocking shots. McKay, meanwhile, has always wanted to be in the spotlight, taking after his HP mentor Girard. He's a consistent presence at various business gatherings and charity events around Becis, and during the BBS privatization scandal he was an important voice in the room in making sure the players weren't adversely affected. It's an open secret that he wants to go into politics once his football career is done. Sunday is still very new to the league, but has been impressive as a dual-threat wing-back (he primarily plays winger at Donrod, farther forward than his natural position). He has the willingness and determination to grab shirts and play ugly, but his primary skill is his ability to shift his weight and change direction quickly, which serves him well both as a marker and when attempting to dribble through defenses. Bouquet and Evela-Gavax both had some growing pains after leaving the safety of the BCF for the much more physical Tikariot and Taxhavn leagues, respectively; Bouquet managed to regroup and became the first Bohrian player to win a foreign league as a bit player with Crimsonhawke, while Evela-Gavax merely became ludicrously wealthy. Of the three sub center-backs, Calais is the best header and set-piece threat, Noren is the most aggressive and willing to play in the midfield, and Wheatle is most versatile and the best at structured defense.

Midfielders:
Kaleo Solomon, CM/DM, age 25, Shansco Athletic: 0 caps
Abraham Norberg, CM/DM, age 23, Motan FC: 0 caps
Jace Simmons, LW/AM, age 29, Avidë Image: 12 caps, 1 assist
Vasily Khalikov, AM, age 25, Shansco Athletic: 28 caps, 4 goals, 5 assists
Kirby Williams, DM, age 24, Fulsworth United Image: 10 caps, 1 assist
Lee Brunner (captain), CM/DM, age 32, Becis City: 30 caps, 1 assist
Herb Schuyler, CM/AM, age 27, Heavenly Princess: 28 caps, 2 goals, 4 assists
Leif Fox, LW, age 24, Heavenly Princess: 0 caps
Jaden Fonderman, RW, age 25, Becis City: 0 caps

Solomon's international debut has been highly anticipated, given that he's been BCF's best midfielder (and maybe its best player period) since his debut three seasons ago. On an aging Shansco Athletic team that desperately needed energy, he brought enough for three midfielders, ball-winning and carrying like a man possessed and picking up an inordinately high number of late, point-stealing goals in the process. If he lacks a bit of on-ball polish, Norberg provides enough for both of them-his every action looks like it could be on a high school training VHS. Captain Brunner, Becis City's longest-tenured player by a decent margin, doesn't have the pure strengths of either of the expected starters but will nevertheless be a touchstone for the younger members of the squad to learn from and a calming presence in case tensions flare up. Williams, now in Saterun, has a striker's self-confidence and a downright Audioslavian ability to drag a game into the muck and escape punishment; the typical reaction to him from non-Princess fans is "yeah he'd be a really nice player if he wasn't such a" and then a set of various expletives.

On the more attacking side, after a very good start to his career Jace Simmons began to have trouble standing out in Becis City's famously packed midfield, often being forced into a more central holding role that he was never quite suited for. His move to a little stadium in Torgos, giving him both tactical space on the left and personal space to work with, has been nothing short of a revelation, and City fans watched the Cup Winner's Cup-where he was an important part of the Rangers comfortably beating RGS Athletic and Herzegovina City before scoring the go-ahead goal in the finals-with a mix of pride and frustration. Jones is attempting to give him the tactical space, but the personal space is another issue entirely. Khalikov was the Bohrian league's youngest ever MVP at 21, an age where most players are still working (or "working") on their college degrees. As Shansco Athletic won their second and third consecutive championships (and made a hell of a run at their fourth), his numbers gradually declined, partially due to his role changing from soloist to ensemble performer, but also because his undersized frame has had trouble adapting to the pile of big, skilled foreign defenders that seemingly every top team has now. Having Sunday on the overlap should work wonders for his game. Schuyler falls into this category, although he can also substitute for Solomon/Norberg if needed. On paper, he's a perfect midfielder, a brilliant athlete and a top-class long-pass technician (especially on set pieces), but there's always been a sense that the parts add up to more than the whole, and he's more of a (incredibly good) luxury player than anything else. Fox and Fonderman are your classically-pacey wingers who are here if the team needs extra width; Fox in particular is practically a carbon-copy of (notably not appearing on this team) Bohrian caps record-holder Orlan Healy, although he's a better side-of-the-box finisher and worse at drawing/accentuating fouls.

Forwards:
Grady Roces, ST/AM, age 26, CA Paulinthal Image: 26 caps, 5 goals, 4 assists
Towson Turner, ST, age 30, Heavenly Princess: 24 caps, 9 goals
Armani Giusti, ST/AM, age 25, Weaver Union: 0 caps
Jamie Sullivan, ST, age 30, St. Natasha Pyramid: 32 caps, 12 goals, 2 assists
Eli Sheve, ST/AM/RW/LW, age 31, Motan FC: 37 caps, 4 goals, 3 assists

For five years, Grady Roces glided across Bohr's football fields with a signature lidded, almost bored look on his face, ghosting past defenders with the same combination of grace and nonchalance that made him a lightning rod for newspaper and internet speculation. Did he really care about football? Could he truly lift his game in the biggest moments? Did he, in fact, stun in that new photo? Moving to CA Paulinthal, arguably the most prestigious team in the entirety of Rushmore, and getting to learn from a true superstar in Járngrímur has failed to conclusively answer those questions, but he's looked solid in limited play time. In the meantime, he's merely the team's best dribbler, has the team's best first touch, and has every other quality necessary to be a great second striker. Turner's a less well-rounded striker who makes up for it with a truly psychotic desire to score. He's had a chip on his shoulder since day one that's remained there even now that he's a three-time Golden Boot winner, and will never be accused of not doing what it takes to win at any given moment, even if his schtick can get grating (and, if you're an equipment manager, expensive) at times. Sullivan, of course, is the other true striker on the roster; injuries (first a recurring hamstring issue, then a broken collarbone) have robbed him of some of the verticality and fearlessness that made him so special in his prime, but he's still a brilliant header and savvy scorer who has a special chemistry with Roces. Giusti and Sheve could also fill in as attacking midfielders, but will most likely be used as a support-ish target forward and a change-of-pace-ish pressing forward, respectively.

HISTORY

Chromatika first entered the World Cup in Cycle 73, going a modest 3-2-7. They made the Cup of Harmony in Cycle 74, and qualified for the first time in Cycle 75, losing in the Round of Sixteen. Chromatika would have their most successful campaign in World Cup 76, making it to the 3rd place Playoff before finishing in fourth place, despite the domestic upheaval in the country. Their first Manager, Franscesca Larriet-Cortes, was martyred at the end of World Cup 75; the political stresses of the job made it so that Lisa Amos, the team's Manager after Franscesca, resigned after World Cup 76.

The team would enjoy continued success from World Cup 77 through World Cup 81, as Silian Parker helped the squad qualify for the World Cup every time, and the team even made it to the Round of Sixteen or beyond three of those times. Even when Chromatika didn't enter World Cup 82, their return to the World Cup in 83 was a success, though both World Cup 83 and 84 saw the Anomalies stymied at the Proper Group Stage - 84 being under new management in Nepharan Konrad Evans.

World Cup 85 was a disaster - the team didn't qualify and didn't even make a deep run in the Cup of Harmony, leading to the sacking of Evans and the appointment of Richard Valens of Krytenia and Tim Landers of Delaclava. The team would qualify in World Cup 86, and 87, host the World Cup in 88, and return to the Proper in 89. However, Chromatika was not making the deep runs that the nation wanted/needed, so they said goodbye to Valens and Landers and looked inward.

Sandra Sybill and Rachel Hellion, key figures during Chromatika's runs in the early days, stepped in. A loss to Nyowani Kitara meant that they were eliminated, but the team turned around and won the 82nd Cup of Harmony. The following cycle, they made it to the Playoffs, where a loss in penalties to Zeta Reka and Hügeltaldom sealed the fate of Sybil and Hellion. Lisa Amos stepped in to lead the team to a respectable Quarterfinal finish in the resulting Cup of Harmony, and Chromatika was left wondering just how far they were away from the glory days.

Lev Repin came in, promising glory - and the Anomalies grabbed it off the cuff, winning their Group to qualify ahead of Ko-oren. Put into a group with Turori, Eura, and Cassadaigua, the Anomalies lost to Turori 3-0 before recovering to win narrowly over Eura and Cassadaigua. They'd fall 1-2 to perennial powerhouses Græntfjall, but they had finally broken back through.

Then, with the World Cup returning to Chromatika, the Anomalies went on the run of a lifetime, making their way to the World Cup Final, beating Zwangzug in the process. They eventually lost the final 3-4 to Banija, but had put themselves back as the #4 team in the world and capable of contending at the biggest stage.

World Cup 94 saw the Anomalies make the Round of Sixteen before losing to Banija once again; then, they cohosted World Cup 95 with Sylestone, only to go 0-2-1 in the Group Stage and not make the Round of Sixteen. World Cup 96 saw a dominant qualifying cycle - only losing once on the final matchday to Abanhfleft - culminate with another Group Stage exit at the hands of Juvencus.

Repin and the Chromatik Football Federation decided to part ways. They then brought in Khabibullina, who did well enough in the CAFA before leading Chromatika to the World Cup Proper in World Cup 97. They ended that foray with three defeats in the World Cup Proper - including a 0-7 drubbing of Farfadillis - which was a disaster.

In her next season at the helm, Alina Khabibullina righted the ship - returning the team to the World Cup Proper and then making the Round of Thirty-Two. It took till the third time, but Chromatika finally advanced to the Round of Sixteen in World Cup 99 before falling to Valanora. World Cup 100 saw the Chromatiks post one of their best qualifying cycles ever before bowing out to hosts Kwrpania in the Round of Thirty-Two. World Cup 101 saw them repeat the same thing - this time even going 3-0-0 in the Proper before losing to Indusse. So, they bid farewell to Khabibullina.

MANAGEMENT STAFF

IMG ImageMYUNG Hye-Jung | Age: 63 | Debut Cycle: CR 51
With Chromatik football at a crossroads, Myung Hye-Jung of Tihon United and Alnio has stepped up to be the Manager for this tournament. A quiet motivator and strategist, his presence will be counted on to lead them in this tournament. He has no design of taking over in World Cup 102, but he was happy to help here.

PHY ImageZoe "Z" Benne | Age 53 | Debut Cycle: 80
Once a heartthrob, Zoe Benne is married to former Chromatik superstar and former White Mountain club manager Erika Morningstar. Zoe has been a constant for fourteen cycles now, and has had to treat everything from sprained ankles to serious injuries after the bus sabotage last cycle. She remains a great asset.

SMC ImageShelby Arling | Age: 38 | Debut Cycle: 87
The presence of Arling as the Social Media Coordinator has become as important as ever. She is the primary communications officer for all things regarding the Senior Squad, and one of the confidants of Repin. All questions go through her, and she takes away any and all distractions.

Starters in Italics

Goalkeepers (3)
GK Jill SWANSON | 6 ft 8 in | 33 | Crossroads CMT) | 35 Caps 38 Goals Allowed CAPTAIN
GK Jessika ANISTON | 6 ft 5 in | 33 | Anomalies (CMT) | 6 Caps 7 Goals Allowed
GK Hera COURTOIS | 6 ft 4 in | 27 | TKCorps Mynda (BNJ) | 3 Cap 3 Goal Allowed

Swanson continues to be the #2 keeper for the Anomalies, ahead of Aniston - mostly due to the fact that Crossroads has outperformed Anomalies in the Red League. Courtois is the future, but that future isn't here yet. Stuck behind Sourtois, this is their tournament to shine.

Defenders (7)
DCR Ineke VAN DER PLAS BOUWMEESTER | 6 ft 5 in | 30 | Oriannor Mountaineers FC (TKT) | 29 Caps
DC Samantha HAN CUNNINGHAM | 25 | Eolorent (AUP) | 39 Caps
DCL Hélène ATACIARA | 6 ft 3 in | 29 | Sivolvia Capitalizt (SRS) | 30 Caps

DCR Jaxon LEHMANN | 6 ft 5 in | 26 | New Hinds City (INS) | 29 Caps
DC HRÖNN Sæsdóttir | 6 ft 4 in | 29 | Port Tacassam FC (TKT) | 7 Caps
DCL Dean CRANKSHAW | 6 ft 10 in | 25 | Union Lachaine (KSK) | 2 Caps
DC NANA Sæsdóttir | 6 ft 8 in | 29 | Port Tacassam FC (TKT) | 7 caps

The entirety of the defensive staff minus Claudia and Uemura is still on this team, as they have not eclipsed fifty caps yet. Ineke has truly cemented herself as the starting right back - but here, she will be working with Samantha and Hélène. It's weird to not see Caro Thiers here, but the Anomalies were already set at Center Back and he was dealing with a slight muscle strain. Can they hold up defending for Swanson instead of Sourtois?

Wingbacks (5)
WBR Lily SULLIVAN | 6 ft 3 in | 24 | Anticicló Molina (BON) | 5 Caps
WBL Róża PANAŚ | 6 ft 1 in | 31 | Jinja City FC (BNJ) | 32 Caps 4 Goals

MR Kandice ORIOL | 6 ft 2 in | 27 | Alnio (CMT) | 23 Caps 4 Goals
WBL Willemieke JANISSEN OP COLMANS | 6 ft 4 in | 30 | Athletico Sevirife (SGN) | 15 Caps 1 Goal
WBL Marci SCHAEFER | 6 ft | 27 | Auprussia NF (AUP) | 5 Caps 1 Goal

Despite Oriol having been on the roster longer, Sullivan's youth and rising prominence earns her the starting nod. The rest of the team is the same as the IAC 25 squad - with Janissen op Colmans and Schaefer's battle to be the next left wingback of the future being the key piece.

Defensive Midfielders (3)
CDM Eden GUNDSDORF | 6 ft 5 in | 28 | Tihon (CMT) | 31 Caps
BWM Erica Holgersson | 6 ft 4 in | 28 | Crossroads (CMT) | 7 Cap
CDM Valentina Vallaki | 6 ft 2 in | 31 | Raynor City United (VAL) | 4 Caps

Jayla has graduated this squad, leaving in the hands of Eden and Erica - with Valentina finally on the roster as well. Being on two of the best teams in Chromatika, they still give this team the chance to play with two defensive midfielders if they want.

Attacking Midfielders (3)
AP LEE Hyun-Seol | 6 ft 5 in | 24 | Wirr Tsi (CMT) | 50 Caps 16 Goals
AP Linnea KARJALAINEN | 6 ft 9 in | 24 | San Vivaldo (CER) | 12 Caps 5 Goals

AM Hanna HAUSER | 6 ft 5 in | 28 | FK Shakhter Z'ai'ai (CMT) | Uncapped

Lee has taken the team by storm, Karjalainen is of the new generation. Needing a third, Hauser steps in for probably the only time she'll be on this squad.

Strikers (5)
AF Adélaide BITTENCOURT | 6 ft 2 in | 30 | Baraldhur AFC (TKT) | 44 Caps 10 Goals
CF Jack HEIMDELL | 6 ft 9 in | 27 | Lhor (CMT) | 19 Caps 3 Goals

AF Freya SEHLMAN | 6 ft 6 in | 26 | Kynxe (CMT) | 4 Caps
CF Lars TILLMAN, JR. | 6 ft 4 in | 23 | Myana (CMT) | Uncapped
AF Joan MARSH | 6 ft 2 in | 24 | Rhoni City (CMT) | Uncapped

The lack of depth here is why there is talk about Chromatika switching out of their current formation. Bittencourt and Heimdell are proven, and so is Sehlman, but behind that is a bunch of CCFA graduates who recently joined the league. How will they grow?

TACTICAL INFORMATION
(Many thanks to Mytanija for the blueprint.)

Chromatika's 3-4-1-2 is based off of Mytanija's formation.

3-4-1-2 – IN POSSESSION: Chromatika's base formation is a 3-4-1-2. This means there will be 3 central defenders, a wing-back on either side, 2 central midfielders, an attacking midfielder and 2 strikers on the pitch at any one time. This does not mean that the team will play in these positions for the whole game, as Chromatiks have adopted the Mytanar philosophy of flexibility in and out of possession, utilizing the fact that until very recently, they ran a 4-3-2-1/4-4-1-1. When Chromatika has the ball the 3-4-1-2 will change into more of a 3-2-5 shape, this is designed to try to create overloads in attacking areas so that the Chromatiks can create two versus one situations where the opposition have to make decisions on who they will engage with.

This 3-2-5 will be achieved firstly by one of the wing-backs (from the starting line-up, this would be right-sided wing-back Lily Sullivan) moving into a central midfield position to play alongside the deeper-lying of the two central midfielders (Eden Gunsdorf, if among the Starting XI). This creates a pairing in central midfield which will be used to help the team build-up, providing passing options both in front of the central defensive three and the 5 players which end-up ahead of them.

That 5 is made-up of the opposite-sided wing-back (in this example it would be left wing-back Róża Panaś), the more advanced central midfielder (Linnea Karjalainen), the attacking midfielder (Lee Hyun-Seol); and the strikers (usually Adélaide Bittencourt and Jack Heimdell). The wing-back has to push on to achieve the 3-2-5 shape, getting into the final third and maintaining the width on their side of the pitch. They will be given some license to get into the penalty area if the ball is on the other side, giving another option for their teammates. The more advanced central midfielder will be tasked with playing inside of the wing-back, in the so-called ‘half-space’, they will look to work with the wing-back to create an overload on their side of the pitch.

The attacking midfielder and the two strikers will interchange fairly freely, though one will always be tasked with pulling wide to ensure that width is maintained on both sides of the attacking ‘5’ with the aim of stretching the opposition’s defense across the width of the pitch. One striker (usually Heimdell in the Starting XI) will drop deep to create space for rotations with the attacking midfielder and the other striker, those two looking to run into and exploit the space vacated by the other striker. These rotations are aimed to shift the opposition defenders around the pitch and create a bit of confusion.

In terms of progressing the play the team will look to move the ball with controlled pace. The team will aim to do this with utmost precision, as is the Chromatik way.

3-4-1-2 – OUT OF POSSESSION: Chromatika's reaction to losing the ball depends on where they actually lose possession on the pitch. Should they lose the ball high-up the pitch, in the opposition’s half, then there will be an instantaneous reaction to press the opponent with the ball to try to win it back quickly high-up the pitch. This is hoped to create chances nearer to the opposition’s goal, effectively using the press as a playmaker. If the opponent breaks through the initial press then Chromatika will look to recover into a 5-3-2 shape as below. Should Chromatika lose the ball nearer to their own goal then they will instantly look to recover into defensive positions to try to make themselves difficult to break down. This shape will be closer to a 5-3-2 than the 3-4-1-2 starting formation.

Both wing-backs will drop deeper, alongside the three central defenders to form the 5. The two central midfielders (Eden Gundsdorf and Linnea Karjalainen), will drop deep in front of the three central defenders to shield them a little and the attacking midfielder (Lee Hyun-Seol), will drop to play in front of them, operating as a bit of a guard dog – either sitting on an opposition deep-lying playmaker to try to stop the ball into them, or by leading a half-pitch press. The two strikers will look to stop the ball going back to the opposition’s central defenders and press them when they are in possession.

Chromatika will also play a variety of other formations should they want to play a little differently, the most likely ones they would change to from the 3-4-1-2 are a 3-5-2 (taking out the attacking midfielder and using three central midfielders); a 4-3-1-2 (pushing the wing-backs back to play as full-backs, removing a central defender and replacing them with a defensive or central midfielder); a 4-2-3-1 (pushing the wing-backs back to play as full-backs, removing a central defender and a striker and then playing a winger on either side); or a narrow 4-4-2 diamond (pushing the wing-backs back to play as full-backs, removing a central defender to play either as a defensive or central midfielder). Chromatika is very versed in the 4-2-3-1 and the 4-4-2, as they've played those before under previous management.

What's next for Chromatik football?

The only time they made it past the Quarterfinals since World Cup 78 was the second place finish in World Cup 93; though Khabibullina helped the team make it to the World Cup and to the knockout rounds, they could never return to beyond the Round of Sixteen. Only one Fillar remains of the four that were heralded as the golden age of Chromatik football. They may be ranked twelfth in the world, but there isn't anyone who would consider them to be a powerhouse at the world level. The Chromatik Football Federation's search for a new Manager has taken long enough that Myung has head to step in to be an interim Manager for the Copa Rushmori. It feels like there is a new age coming for Chromatik football.

History suggests that the next Manager should be a Chromatik - they've always gone back and forth. Unfortunately, the last Chromatik Manager was Sandra Sybill, and the prior Anomalies legend was not successful in leading the squad. Also, there is no denying the fact that Chromatika doesn't have a lot of good Chromatik-born Managers at the moment - especially with Myung, considered to be the best among them, turning down Management at the national level for now. It is, therefore, more likely they'll end up with another foreign-born Manager.

Will they shift from the 3-4-1-2 that Repin put in place? The days of having a pair of strikers that were vying for attention is coming to an end with Xuen-Zhukov and Howard-Dawes nearing the twilight of their careers; the next bona fide striker hasn't emerged. Instead, the team's identity is a group of hard-nosed, brutal defenders in front of a star keeper, a holding midfielder that dictates the defense, and creative wingers to dictate play up front. That seems to call more for a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 - allowing for Howard-Dawes to continue to play with Xuen-Zhukov while letting the playmakers do their thing.

The geographic musical chairs seems to be over, too. The year in the pocket dimension/plane saw the Chromatiks play in the IAC; now, they're part of Rushmore, and laying down roots. All of this hasn't been the best for clubs nor players on the pitch, but they are starting to reestablish themselves as a regional presence, as well.

This Copa Rushmori will tell a lot. The vast majority of the back half of the Chromatik first string team is on the roster, as so many haven't eclipsed fifty caps. Up front, it's a lot more unproven commodities - all led by a Manager who knows this will be his only stint as Manager of the team for the moment.

They say that temporary arrangements can lead to disarray as people know that it won't stay. However, there is also a chance that temporary arrangements may lead to brilliance that is short-lived but shows promise for the future.

That is what Chromatika has to lean on - for the next age of seeking glory ahead.

The Copa Rushmori is coming back to the Dual Islands, the first time in four editions, and it will be held outside of Pavola in the first time since Copa Rushmori 47 when it was last hosted in Pasarga here in the northwest corner of the region home to the "home nations" of the region. Alas for the Wanderers, there is no chance for friendly rivalries among their regional neighbors like there is in the southeast portion of the region as all of the nation's regional neighbors have given up on the international game. Nethertopia, Sargossa, and of course Candelaria & Marquez are the other three nations whom are usually associated with being the home nations of Rushmore and the founders alongside Pasarga of the Copa Rushmori as well as the Copa de Campeones, the regional variant of the Champions League, and yet only Pasarga remains active in the sport. For what once stood as the pillars of the region, to be the last one standing after Sargossa's withdrawal from international competition some years ago is quite the isolating feeling for both the national team as well as the clubs who to lack any local clubs from abroad whom could be part of rivalries or preseason tours.

Unlike the Copa Rushmori of four editions ago, this one did not come as a surprise to the general public, there had been rumblings for a year or so that the PFA was contemplating a bid for the competition and had been seeking out partner federations for the venture. Ultimately the PFA decided to go it alone after their many inquiries fell on federations who did not have the budget, means, or desire to be part of a hosting effort in this edition of the tournament. That is the way that these things go sometimes, as federations may not be in a position to be able to participate for any number of reasons, fortunately for the PFA there are plenty of stadiums within the Dual Islands that they are going to be able to solo host the competition without much work needed to be done to the infrastructure to bring it up to compliance. After all, it was within this decade that the World Cup came to the shores of Pasarga and was hosted as the first edition of forty-eight teams, requiring additional stadiums than in the past to fulfill their duties, without much of an issue. The PFA will be looking forward with a great hope to have a similar experience here about eight years later and that all that come to Pasarga have a great time regardless of what happens results wise on the pitch.

Let us talk about the tournament itself as for the first time in their hosting history, the PFA has not assigned groups to a pair of stadiums but instead has created a full schedule that will see all twelve stadiums in use for every matchday and teams traveling through the nation during their stay. As per tradition, the very first of the game of the tournament will be at the Stade de Torgos where the Wanderers will kick off their group stage against Concordia and two matchdays later they will finish off the group stage here as well against Kwrpania, with the stadium also already designated for at least one knockout game with being the site of the Final. While there are multiple instances of teams playing in the same stadium for multiple times in the group stage, there are not many of where a team will stay in the same city in the entire group stage and will at least get to experience two places within our grand nation as part of their experience of the tournament. With the many different unique food and culture that are scattered throughout the nation, there is a hope that those visiting from abroad are able to find things that they enjoy greatly and will remember fondly when they return home about their trip here to the northwest.

As for the football itself, on paper the Wanderers have been drawn into what many will believe to be a two horse race for the group title as the Wanderers not only get the benefit of playing at home but also are the top ranked team in the region in the regional rankings. Ninth ranked Kwrpania is the second seed in the group and as mentioned before, the two teams do not meet on the pitch until the final matchday of the group where both will be looking to have secured qualification to the next round. The top two spots advance to the knockout stages but as do four of the six best third placed teams and history suggests that single win in the group stage should be enough to see a team through to the Round of Sixteen as one of those best third placed teams. The Wanderers will open against twenty-first ranked Concordia before then taking on a returning Taeshan who has been absent from international competition for quite some time and are unranked in the rankings heading into the tournament. There should be enough quality among the team that they should have four points at least heading into that top ten clash with Kwrpania on the final matchday but the Copa Rushmori has been known to throw a few wild results in the past. Some of those wild results saw the team get grouped thrice in a row despite being one of the best teams in the region, something that manager Igor Topić will be wary of.

This team is coming off a solid showing in the World Cup, they went perfect through a group stage that felt like it should have been quite the trouble and then won in the first knockout round before being eliminated in the Round of Sixteen. While there might be some lingering bitterness that the team failed to go even further a month ago in the World Cup, the team has to reflect on how well they did do in what was one of the most difficult group draws that they could have gotten in the competition. While there has been a bit of turnover in the team in the month between the Finals and here at the start of the regional championship, it is still mostly that team that performed well above expectations a month ago. The Wanderers' greatest weakness over the history of team's existence has been its inconsistency and a quarterfinal or further run on a home Copa Rushmori would go a long way to restoring the faith that the Wanderers are closing in on being a legitimate World Cup contender once more, something the fans of the team have been yearning for for what feels like decades now.

The Imperial Guard are back at the Copa Rushmori and are looking to really cause a bit of a ruckus in what is a group that they could very well be dubbed with the cursed moniker of the Group of Death. Our brave Imperial Guard travel to Pasarga to take on Eastfield Lodge, a team who just won the Cup of Harmony in the previous month, as well as third ranked Darmen, and a Tikariot side who is hell bent on repairing a damaged reputation with players from one of the most popular leagues in the sport. At no point during any of the three games that our brave players will be partaking in will we be considered the favorite for getting a result out of the match and yet we must still march on and vie with best that the rest of Rushmore put before is. We are the Imperial Guard, even if we are to go down, we must go down with honor and upholding our duty no matter how dire the circumstances might be that we march forward into.

The squad enters into the thick of things mostly unchanged from the squad that took part in Qusmo and Tikariot two years ago, a team that went unbeaten in its group and gave The Kytler Peninsulae a surprising loss in the group stage to help the Guard advance in second place in the group. Being defeated by Pasarga in the knockout rounds was not the sort of blemish that you shy away from, they are considered one of the better teams in the region and went on to make the last four of the tournament, it was a loss to a strong foe. On the scale of it, it could be the very sort of performance that spurs the team on to do similar or even better things here in this Copa Rushmori, though the group draw has been vastly unkind if that is to occur. This comes in addition to the already poor history of the team failing to carry on from previously strong performances in the regional championship, going from a strong showing one edition to be completely an also ran in the next, leading to not even participating in many editions between. Now there is hope that the federation sees the potential in the team and keeps it competing in the regional championship every edition so that the team may continue to grow and get stronger over time competing against the best the region has to offer.

The first stop on the trip for the team is in Stein-los, taking on the Eastfielders in a tilt where the once lovable losers come in as the favorites following on a very strong showing at the Cup of Harmony, winning the competition with a new manager. Jager will likely feel comfortable bringing his team back to his home country with tons of momentum on their side and likely plenty of support among the crowd, with the Eastfielders having quite the formidable team at their disposal as they have the second best domestic league in the sport. Like last edition, it is hitting the most difficult task force, there is no return to the breach in this scenario, the team must go out and create the breach into the group at the first time of asking. Getting any sort of result against the Eastfielders could give the Guard plenty of momentum as they travel to Belja for the second game of the group stage against Tikariot. With the best third placed sides advancing out of the group, a single win in the group may be all the squad needs to make a repeat trip to the knockout rounds and that second match might be the best opportunity. Traveling to Paulinthal on matchday three against the top seed in Darmen is going to be a frightful venture and one where the Guard rather not have undue pressure to perform and yet if that is the case they will still walk into the lion's den with swords drawn and ready to do battle even if it is to their peril. That is the Golden Path, that is our way.

Qusmo is top sixteen in the Multiverse, but are they top sixteen in Rushmore?

Qusmo has reached the knockout stages of consecutive World Cups for the first time in its history — and, also for the first time in its history, it’s even won one. The Caldera Sun won their final twelve matches of Qualifying, won each of their three group stage fixtures, won their hexadecifinal, and only fell on penalties in the octofinals. They are now ranked thirteenth in the Multiverse, the highest Qusmo has ever been ranked in the KPB+ tables. They enter the Copa Rushmori on a seventeen-match competitive unbeaten streak. There is still quite a bit of doubt whether they can finish among the final sixteen teams in a Copa Rushmori.

As phenomenally as Qusmo has performed under the management of Ilinx-Kepex Zev on the Multiversal stage, they have struggled when playing opponents closer to home. Ilinx-Kepex has been in charge of Qusmo for fifty-five matches so far: twelve against teams from Rushmore, forty-three against teams from everywhere else. Ilinx-Kepex has lost five matches against Rushmori opponents and five matches against non-Rushmori opponents. At the World Cup, Ilinx-Kepex’s record is five wins and three draws in eight matches against non-Rushmori opposition, and one loss in one match against Rushmori opponents.

Qusmo may have crashed out of a home Copa Rushmori last cycle with just a single point, but that wasn’t actually terribly much of a shock. The last time this team actually made it through the group stage at this tournament was Copa Rushmori XXXII. About to embark on their tenth appearance at the Copa Rushmori, Qusmo’s record stands at six consecutive group stage exits, a pair of defeats twenty cycles ago in the first knockout round, and one knockout win on home soil at Qopa XXXII before losing their very next fixture in the quarterfinals. Overall on a match to match basis, Qusmo has lost a majority of its fixtures, and picked up less than a point per match on average, both against Rushmori opponents generally and at Copas Rushmori specifically.

Above all, there’s a pervasive sense that this is simply a weird time in Rushmori football, no matter how ranking tables or recent results might read in the wider Multiverse. Sure, at eleventh in the Multiverse, Pasarga is the top Rushmori team in the KPB+ rankings, and they’ll host Copa Rushmori LI as the top-ranked team in the CRF rankings, too. So far, so normal. But Qusmo and Kwrpania, ranked thirteenth and fifteenth in the most recent KPB+ rankings, respectively, each lost two of their three fixtures on home soil at Copa Rushmori L and crashed out in the group stage. Twelfth-ranked Chromatika has never played a single match at any Copa Rushmori, as their landmass has only just been transported to the Xandrian waters not far north of Qusmo. And the champions of both of the last two Copas, and three of the past four, is — well, officially, no one in particular.

So, sure, Qusmo has been on a dizzying rise in Multiversal football as of late. They may genuinely be one of the top sixteen teams in the Multiverse, and they may be expected to win a knockout match at the next World Cup and return to the octofinals. But, for the most part, that’s the Multiverse outside Qusmo’s own home region. At the Copa Rushmori, however? They’ll consider themselves outsiders to reach the knockouts at all.

It’s a new dawn for Qusma football. It’s a new dawn for Qusmo. Glory to Qusmo, glory to Qusmi’y.

Biographies

Goalkeepers

Kepex-Cheng Yan is a reflexive, shot-stopping 31-year-old goalkeeper, with a thoughtful personality. Originally born in Qanz to Qusma and Yue parents, they and their family fled the country when they were young during the Reforms, before eventually being forced to flee again to Nyowani Kitara during the Yue Civil War. Finally, the Nyowani Kitara Conflict forced their family to flee as refugees once again, this time returning to Yuezhou. They were hailed as the answer to Qusmo’s longstanding goalkeeper question when they first accepted a call-up for Qusmo, but Ilinx-Kepex shockingly dropped the star player and humanitarian from Qusmo’s squad entirely for their first tournament in charge, stating they would prefer Kepex-Cheng to challenge themself in an IFCF league. The manager got their wish, as they transferred to Qastyr — very conveniently for the manager in joint control of that club and the national team, it must be said — and were once again called up for the team.

Alfan-Dynom Jan is a daring, sweeping 25-year-old goalkeeper from Lavorn, with a relaxed personality. Alfan-Dynom has been a national team regular, making each of the past seven rosters for Qusmo, but has only accumulated eleven caps over their career. They are largely seen as squarely the second choice behind Kepex-Cheng, but they can offer a bit of a different profile in goal, which may be helpful against certain sides. Alfan-Dynom will likely get a turn in goal at some point during Qualifiers, but their as the true number one isn’t quite here yet, no matter what their kit number may say.

Jerat-Betva Dar is a confident, inspiring 25-year-old goalkeeper from Kolle, with a soft personality. Jerat-Betva is receiving their first-ever national team call-up this Qualification cycle and is the only uncapped player on Qusmo’s World Cup 101 Qualifying roster. They’ll hope to make an impression, and perhaps even earn a debut, for the Caldera Sun. Whether they’ll be able to make it onto the pitch ahead of Kepex-Cheng and Alfan-Dynom is an open question, but if nothing else, they seem very willing and eager to play a support role and lift everyone else’s spirits, which is ideal for a third-choice goalkeeper.

Center backs

Vralx-Lucex Mal is a tidy, progressive 23-year-old left-sided centre back from Tracam, with a calm personality. They were instrumental to their relatively small hometown club’s remarkable cup successes while playing with Trosoc, providing both the security at the back needed for nervy knockout fixtures and the confidence to play forward that entices big clubs. As a result, they earned a transfer to the top league in the Multiverse, facing some of the most lethal attackers in the game head-on and often coming out on top. They’re also a darling of the manager’s, as having centre backs who can attack (and forwards who can defend) is exactly how Ilinx-Kepex loves to play. In short, don’t expect Vralx-Lucex to be dropped to the bench anytime soon.

Prant-Culak Guv is a quick, well-positioned 26-year-old right-sided centre back from Wexe, with a loving personality. They were the top Qusma footballing prospect of their year when they turned pro, and they stayed near the top of the domestic game in Qusmo ever since, before spreading their wings to the Red League. Now, they partner Vralx-Lucex as the first-choice centre back duo both for their club and their country. Shakhter had the best goals-conceded record in the entirety of the Red League last season, and Prant-Culak is one of the biggest reasons why. They don’t have the same touch for passes going forward as their centre back mate, but they’re indefatigable in the back and vital for Qusmo.

Sylax-Penac Fox is a quick, well-positioned 22-year-old left-sided centre back from Qanz, with a loving personality. A precocious talent, Sylax-Penac was named Ilinx-Kepex’s starter at club level for Qastyr, the most historic club in Qusmo, at just sixteen years of age. They’ve been at the club as a defensive rock ever since. Given Vralx-Lucex’s dominant hold on the starting position for the Caldera Sun, they may not get to see much of the pitch, but they’re a more than capable understudy should Vralx-Lucex need a rest or if something were to happen.

Vralx-Ilinx Tla is a bombing, crossing 27-year-old defender from Samedin, with a calm personality. They first rose the ranks at youth level and with Ilinx-Kepex’s Qastyr team as a right back, not a centre back. However, they’ve been able to adapt all across the back line in their time in Bonusia, most often featuring as a left centre back for Keklaneka. They’ve finally reemerged in the national team picture, but this time as a right centre back. It might be a bit risky to only call up three “true” centre backs for Qualifiers, but other players, such as Kynda-Tylyr Ezi, may also be able to deputize in case of emergency. If nothing else, Vralx-Ilinx’s positional versatility, tireless spirit, and deft touch could be an interesting wild card to play in Ilinx-Kepex’s system, depending on game state or opponent characteristics — and they may well also be an option at one or two other positions along the back line, as well.

Full backs

Xelez-Matez Wek is a 29-year-old left back, born to Qusma parents in the Squornshelan Remnant States. Having been moved from KFX Halazem to Olympia Arkintoofle to Océanic for a combined eight million dollars, they’ve long been one of Qusmo’s brightest talents. The question is whether their superb club play always translates to international level, as they have been caught out on several occasions in ways that might surprise regular viewers of the Squornshelan Superleague or the Kelssek Championship. By all accounts, they’re certainly proven themself Qusmo’s most talented left back, but can they prove they’re the best player for its national team?

Balax-Winad Abe is a tireless, end-to-end 25-year-old left back from Atlem, with a laid-back personality. Anything you ask Balax-Winad to do, they'll do it, and they’ve become a favorite of Ilinx-Kepex Zev for both Qastyr & the national team. They may not have quite the same talent as Xelez-Matez, but whatever they lack, they make up for in sheer determination. Every ball, every pass, every duel is the most important one, and they simply do not quit. They may not have the same pedigree, but they’ve taken the starting job on the national team at times before, so don’t be surprised if they take it again.

Sevet-Ajark Tez is a 31-year-old right back. They made their name across the strait in the Kytler Peninsulae with Edencliff, becoming not only a reliable part of the team’s defense, but a genuinely valuable member of the attack. They’re willing to bomb forward and get into places fullbacks normally don’t. That can be valuable in a system like Ilinx-Kepex’s, which prioritizes shifting space, positional rotations, and sparking just enough indecision or hesitation from defenders to capitalize. The problem, of course, is that when they’re forward, they’re not back. They may be tireless, but it’s still true that the ball moves faster than any player, and a prepared opponent can capitalize by counterattacking into the space they vacate before they can recover.

Lynul-Sevet Pul is a 34-year-old right back. They’re a steady presence at the back — reliable, and less prone to go forward than Sevet-Ajark. Given their stylistic differences, they’re a fairly common choice as a late-game substitution when trying to close out fixtures. Sometimes, when really hunkering down, Ilinx-Kepex has even experimented with leaving both these players in, with Lynul-Sevet taking Sevet-Ajark’s place on the right side of the defense and Sevet-Ajark becoming of more of a wingback or even wide midfielder. It may seem risky to not have any options at or under thirty years old at this position, but don’t forget that Vralx-Ilinx can, and likely will, play at right back at some point, as well.

Midfielders

Nulzk-Vlont Tla is a dynamo, box-to-box 28-year-old central midfielder from Qanz, with a creative personality. They're a graduate of the academy of Qastyr, famed for its work with central midfielders in particular, but they were forced out by the glut of talent the team had at that position. They still proved instrumental in Trosoc’s cup successes in recent seasons, and despite the fact that seven Qastyr players made it onto the national team roster, Nulzk-Vlont is one of only three from Qusmo’s domestic league who play at a club that doesn’t happen to be managed by Ilinx-Kepex Zev. They help connect all phases of play, from attack to defense to attack again, just like Ilinx-Kepex used to do during their own playing days. Not coincidentally, they’re a favorite of the boss.

Trenj-Wulat Fox is a safe, ball-recycling 25-year-old central midfielder from Qanz, with an assertive personality. Don’t let the former Qastyr midfielder fool you, though: they enter Qualifying with ten goals for the national team, a rate of one goal every four caps. They don’t love to play quick combinations as much as some other members of the squad, or as much as Ilinx-Kepex might prefer, but they’ll direct the ball gets where it needs to go: to a player in maroon and gold. When in defense, they’ll cover their ground and direct the ball gets where it needs to go: to a player in maroon and gold. And although they’re not as well-versed with combination play as some of their teammates on a squad that exalts technical ability, they do know how to position themselves in just the right place. It’s not too rare to find them suddenly emerging from midfield, unmarked and apparently forgotten by the defense, to direct the ball where it needs to go: straight into the back of the opposition’s net.

Winad-Harta Xlo is a dynamo, box-to-box 25-year-old central midfielder from Zwall, with a loving personality. After excelling in Qusmo with serial champions Atlov, the midfielder went abroad to develop their game, eventually landing in Indusse. There they honed their game, adding defensive steel to get Ilinx-Kepex’s attention as a contender for a national team roster spot. Winning a place in Liga Prime’s Best XI last season helped seal the deal, and they weren’t just named to the roster — they’ve impressed so much that they’re expected to be named in the starting XI on matchday one of Qualifying, despite having only previously ever played in two competitive fixtures for the national team, both in Copa Rushmori XLIX. Still, the fit in Ilinx-Kepex’s system could be tantalizing: a player who, although primarily a defensive base in midfield, can roam around the entirety of the pitch and do anything required.

Kynda-Tylyr Ezi is a 30-year-old central midfielder, born to Qusma parents in the Squornshelan Remnant States. Though they now also play as a defensive midfielder for their club, they started their career as a central midfielder and have all the technical skills to show for it, which are highly coveted by national team manager Ilinx-Kepex Zev, a former star at the position themself. Expect Kynda-Tylyr to be a frequent substitute, and potentially a starter, in games when a particularly tough defense is expected to be necessary or when trying to close out games. Kynda-Tylyr’s defensive chops are prized so highly, meanwhile, that some rumors have circulated that Ilinx-Kepex may consider employing them not in central midfield, but in central defense. Perhaps they’ll be used for cover not only in midfield, but for the conspicuous lack of true centre backs on the national team’s roster?

Fen Kepex-Potts is a 26-year-old central midfielder, born to Qusma and Tumbran parents in Tumbra. They are a common super-sub for Ilinx-Kepex, coming on in the second halves of matches to inject even more energy and tempo into the center of the park, which can help overwhelm opponents on tired legs — especially when the match is played at extreme altitude in Qanz. Kepex-Potts isn’t a specialist in any one area, but they’re an excellent force multiplier, allowing everyone else to do their job that much better. Even when they’re on the bench, just knowing that a sub’ll be coming on in, say, the sixtieth minute can allow the starters to push with every last drop of energy, instead of saving it for a full ninety. They may not be a starter, but they’re a vital component to how Ilinx-Kepex likes to play.

Wingers

Belaj-Rilan Dar is a 31-year-old left winger, born to Qusma parents in the Squornshelan Remnant States. They are also a ten million dollar player, having recently moved from Kelssek to Chromatika for a record fee for any Qusma player. Last season, Alnio qualified for the Champions League with the best goalscoring record in the entire Red League, and Belaj-Rilan is no small part of that. At this stage in their career, they are the most influential player on their national team’s forward line and a bolted-on starter for several cycles on.

Nalet-Kresp Saf is a trustworthy, back-tracking 29-year-old left winger from Xyn, with an elitist personality. They may not be the easiest to get along with, but they get the job done, and, ironically, they’re not afraid of doing the dirty work when they're on the pitch. That can help knit a good side together, and that’s something that secured a League of the Single Sun-record three million-dollar transfer to the top-ranked league in the Multiverse, as well as a spot on Qusmo’s national team roster. They’re certainly national team-caliber, but they’re unlucky to be stuck behind Belaj-Rilan. For the national team, they’re mostly used as a super-sub to help continue applying pressure on teams with fresh legs and eyes hungry for goal.

Culak-Zelez Guv is a 29-year-old right winger, born to Qusma parents in the Squornshelan Remnant States. A striker originally, they were moved out to the wing for their national team to accommodate more established options, & they became a no-doubt, written-in-pen member of every sensible Qusmo starting XI by being a prolific goalscoring force on the right — until they were unceremoniously dropped from Ilinx-Kepex’s first national team roster. Culak-Zelez sought a new club in response to the new manager’s demand that players challenge themselves in IFCF-active leagues in order to receive continued call-ups for the national team. They ended up on the club roster of Ilinx-Kepex Zev themself. Funny how that works out.

Izilv-Ilinx Val is a tricky, unselfish 24-year-old right winger from Qanz, with a thoughtful personality. They’re not so much a goalscorer as they are a creator for others. They’ve previously only played a pair of matches at Copa Rushmori XLIX as a result. However, with Qusmo’s striker position suddenly seeming a bit open, Culak-Zelez could be a dark horse candidate to return to centre forward and take the reins — in which case, Izilv-Ilinx would likely be the player on the right feeding them chances. Don’t underestimate the impact of the club connection with midfielder Winad-Harta, either. If their club chemistry takes hold for the Caldera Sun, they could see the pitch more — either as a substitute, or perhaps even a starter.

Strikers

Xalan-Yunal Can is a fearless, marauding 24-year-old central midfielder from Qanz, with a passionate personality. They’ve played for Ilinx-Kepex at club level their whole career, and they’re a mainstay for them with the national team, as well. They’re a bit of a wild card, if one is needed. Can’t break down an opponent with pretty passes and combinations? Xalan-Yunal’ll run at them and see if they can do anything to stop them. They’re one of the best dribblers in Qusmo’s midfield, and they always — always — have an eye for goal. The only thing Xalan-Yunal seems to love more than running straight at a defense seems to be uncorking scorchers from thirty yards out. And yes, they are listed as a striker in this roster, as ever since Ilinx-Kepex began experimenting by putting them in the starting lineup as a false nine instead of a conventional striker, the national team’s goalscoring and win rates have both skyrocketed. They won’t convert xG to goals as often as a traditional poacher, but their interplay, positioning, touch, passing, and intelligence more than makes up for it, both for themselves and to open up chances for others.

Walinase Hynym-Forzu is a 30-year-old striker, born to Qusma and Biyambian parents in Biyambi. She’s won just about all there is to win in Biyambi. With Mansanduni Union, she won Biyambi’s first-ever league–cup–Mandalanusan treble. With Ngwazi Strikers, she’s just won the BSL Golden Boot. She’s always been on the cusp of the national team, barely on either side of the roster cut line. However, with one of Qusmo’s legendary strikers having just retired, and Helek-Pertz likely soon to follow, a golden opportunity presents itself. Even more auspicious: fully a third of Qusmo’s Qualifying fixtures this cycle will come against teams from Mandalanusa, the region she has played in her entire career. She has grown to specialize in scoring, and winning, in Mandalanusa. Now, she’ll get the chance to do so with her national team, as well.

Pilta-Zorno Xam is a rapid, nimble 27-year-old striker from Qanz, with an ambitious personality. After impressing as part of one of the top attacks in Bonusia, the former Qastyr striker will get their chance to represent the national team, playing for their old club manager. They can do a little bit of everything, whether combining with teammates, scoring stunning strikes, or finding just the right space to receive and convert a tap-in. When the lights are shining their brightest, however, can they do the same for the national team?

Tactics

Manager Ilinx-Kepex Zev will nominate the following players to start Qusmo’s opening match of the Qualifying campaign against Olastor. The team’s starting XI is subject to change throughout the course of Qusmo’s Copa Rushmori LI campaign.

Ilinx-Kepex has laid out a very clear vision for how their football teams play, which is clearly influenced by their own playing career as a do-it-all, box-to-box midfielder. They seem to be starting to get results with the system at Qastyr, and they’ve started to implement it with the national team as well. Ilinx-Kepex wants their club to dominate possession of the ball, but even more than that, they want their team to be interconnected in all facets of the game. Wingers should have the freedom to swap their sides of the pitch. Defenders should be ready to advance and play the ball. Strikers should be able to drop into midfield, and teammates should be able to dart upfield to reoccupy the vacated space. Midfielders should be everywhere. There should effectively be ten, maybe even eleven, central midfielders on the pitch.

The manager has even published an open letter, called the Fuzpon Manifesto, articulating their philosophy, in an attempt to encourage Qusma clubs, academies, and youth development programs to adopt a similar, national style. The thinking: use vision, creativity, technique, and sheer tirelessness to overcome deficits in height or physicality. That is a clear weakness for this team, but when every player is connected — working together, switching positions, manipulating space, sprinting up and down the pitch for ninety minutes, progressing the ball with flicks and first touches — it can be a thing of beauty.

Kits

Image

The official kit supplier of the Qusma national team is the Starblaydian-based enterprise ediraf. Though many expected Fuzpon Qusma to select uni·q to win the new Qusma national team contract, the federation has opted to equip the team in the same kit in which they competed in World Cups 82 and 83, as a link to Qusma footballing heritage.

Culture

Gender: All people of full Qusma descent are nonbinary and androgynous and use they/them pronouns. Some male or female Qusmi’y do exist, but they are generally children of multinational heritage.
Names: For those with traditional Qusma names, family names are followed by given names.
Nomenclature: Qusmo refers to the country of Qusmo itself, Qusma is an adjective for something that is from or of Qusmo, a Qusmi is a person who is Qusma, Qusmi’y are a group of more than one Qusmi, Qusmi Bez is the title of the leader of Qusmo, and Qusmu is the native language of most Qusmi’y.
More information: For a more in-depth look at Qusmo and its culture, see Qusmo’s host information for Copa Rushmori L.

Competitive record

Qusmo debuted in World Cup 80 Qualifying and qualified for World Cups 82 and 83, but due to the Reforms, it had not played any more recent fixtures until the ninety-sixth World Cup cycle. It has since appeared at World Cups 98, 100, and 101, the former two partially played on its own shores. The Caldera Sun consistently got out of the group stage and did little else before the Reforms, but since then, they’ve failed to do even that. Qusmo has not played a knockout fixture in this tournament since it hosted Copa Rushmori XXXII, and it has only ever won one knockout fixture at this tournament: an octofinal against an unranked nation at a home tournament. Qusmo will now seek to play beyond the group stage of a Copa for the first time in nineteen cycles and, should they accomplish that, win a Copa Rushmori knockout fixture on foreign soil for the first time ever.

Copa Rushmori LI preview: Group B
Mapping Qusmo’s path to finally returning to the Copa Rushmori knockouts in Pasarga

Ilinx-Kepex Zev has accomplished things no other manager of the Caldera Sun has ever done before, including rattling off a sixteen-match competitive winning streak, reaching back-to-back World Cup knockout stages, and winning the nation’s first ever World Cup knockout fixture just last cycle. One thing they haven’t conquered, however, is Rushmore. Ilinx-Kepex has lost as many fixtures against Rushmori opponents as they’ve lost against every other nation in the Multiverse. And although Ilinx-Kepex has a perfect record of both World Cup qualification and World Cup knockout appearances, they have yet to lead Qusmo out of the group stages of a Copa Rushmori. The last time the Caldera Sun managed to accomplish that was Copa Rushmori XXXII — the only major tournament ever to be hosted wholly within Qusmo, and the Multiversal debut of what we know as Qusma seeding. That was nineteen cycles ago. Can Ilinx-Kepex inspire their team to new heights once again, this time much closer to home, or will Qusmo’s longstanding Rushmori curse be too much?

Qusmo

Qusmo has faced all three of its group stage opponents before, and its combined record against the teams of Group B is one win, two draws, six losses. Much of that record comes against the Kytler Peninsulae, as this will be the seventh time these two nations meet on the field, which will make the Peninsulae Qusmo’s joint-second-most common opponent all-time both in all fixtures and in major tournaments, specifically. The Kytler Peninsulae was already Qusmo’s most common post-Reforms opponent in all fixtures, and they will now tie Darmen and Zenic for the Caldera Sun’s most common post-Reforms opponent in major tournaments.

So suffice it to say that both of these teams have seen a lot of each other. Through it all, the Peninsulae consistently come out on top. Qusmo has won none of the teams’ six prior fixtures, and the Caldera Sun have lost each of their past five. At their most recent meeting, the Peninsulae knocked Qusmo out of World Cup 100 in what was the Caldera Sun’s first World Cup knockout fixture in eighteen cycles. It stands as the only time Ilinx-Kepex’s Qusmo team has lost a match at the World Cup in normal or extra time, in nine fixtures at the tournament in total.

Qusmo has seen each of its other teams before at this tournament: a draw to Olastor at Copa Rushmori XXXII in Qusmo that consigned the Caldera Sun to a second-place group finish at their home tournament, putting the team on a collision course with eventual champions Pasarga as soon as the quarterfinals. A loss to Nyowani Kitara at Copa Rushmori XLVI in Yuezhou, immediately putting the Caldera Sun in a matchday one hole it could not overcome against Darmen and Mytanija. A win over Olastor at Copa Rushmori XLVIII in the Kytler Peninsulae, on the fifth and final matchday of a group stage in which both teams arrived with zero wins and guaranteed of elimination.

Crossborder Connections

Of course, that is to say nothing of the close ties between Qusmo and these nations, not just their national teams. Three of the four nations in this group are West Pavolan nations which cohosted the prior Copa Rushmori together. The Polan–Alaer route is one of the most important, and shortest, international connections in Qusmo, accessible via regular ferry. Although Qusmo is an island, the Peninsulae is one of its closest neighbors, geographically and politically. Meanwhile, Nyowani Kitara shares a border with the Kytlerian exclave of Bittersnea. These nations have shared long histories together and are interwoven into each others’ very cultures. Each matchday in Group B will have an absolutely blockbuster all-West Pavolan fixture on tap. Also, Olastor exists.

The Kytler Peninsulae

The Kytler Peninsulae won its group at Copa Rushmori L, beating both Three Golden Kingdoms and repeat groupmates Nyowani Kitara along the way. Shockingly for a suite of three simultaneous tournaments hosted across Pavola, the Kytler Peninsulae hosted only two matches in all three Rushmori championships combined last cycle: its first two group stage matches at the Copa, and nothing more. Still, the Peninsulae beat Three Golden Kingdoms in the group stage finale in Nyowani Kitara and Igratia in the octofinals in Kwrpania, before falling to fellow Pavolans Pridnestrovia in the quarters — a Schrödinger’s champion of sorts, which did lose the final in Qanz but was the farthest-advancing non-disqualified team in the tournament.

The Peninsulae are clearly on the rise, having qualified to each of the past five World Cups — including beating Qusmo in the World Cup 100 knockouts as part of a quarterfinals run — but they have not yet quite made it to the semifinals of either a World Cup or Copa Rushmori. Despite recent tragedy, they clearly have the talent to challenge just about anyone, situated not just in the top twenty of the KPB+ rankings, but in the top five of the CRF rankings, after consistently performing extremely creditably but not quite exquisitely. Will this finally be the time they break through?

Olastor

Olastor advanced over Valladares and A Variable Number of Knights Who Say Ni in the group stage at the last edition, beating the former by two clear goals head-to-head, finishing behind only a host nation which was later disqualified. Olastor fell to Oberour Ar Moro by a single goal, but their senior, Sub-20, and Sub-17 national teams all reached the knockout rounds at their respective Rushmori championships last cycle, demonstrating that this nation has talent now and has even more waiting in the wings.

The federation clearly sees an opportunity and is investing resources in the game, including by hosting the final match of the fourth edition of the Federation of the Single Sun’s own Copa del Ganso and submitting a strong, unconventional, and fascinating bid to host this very tournament for the first time as well. Olastor is in the top fifteen of the CRF rankings, within the knockout cutoff zone at this edition, and would rise even higher in a version of the regional rankings without any KPB+ component — higher, incidentally, than Qusmo. They may be a pot three team, but they’re the highest-ranked pot three team in the competition and will surely back themselves to surprise.

Nyowani Kitara

Nyowani Kitara has an incredible history of relatively recent success. About ten cycles ago, the team qualified for three consecutive World Cups, including a run all the way to the World Cup 92 semifinals, and the team placed third when it hosted Copa Rushmori XLIII, as well. So although they are the lowest-ranked team in this group, and they didn’t advance out of the group stage at Copa Rushmori L, they may have the group’s best pedigree. No other team in Group B has ever made it to a World Cup semifinal. No other team in Group B has ever made it to a Copa Rushmori semifinal.

It is worth noting this team’s recent history with some of its groupmates, as well. Nyowani Kitara and the Kytler Peninsulae cohosted the Nyowani Kitara Group at the last Copa Rushmori, with the Kytler Peninsulae prevailing two–one in the Kytlerian city of Cobden. Additionally, these two teams played in the Qusmo as the final match of the Xandrian Series in the leadup for this tournament. The Peninsulae won that fixture three–one and, with it, won the event as a whole. Could third time be the charm for the Kitarans — and could that send them back in time ten cycles and propel them into the knockout rounds of a major tournament once again?

Xandrian Series

The Xandrian Series may have been just a friendly tournament, but the Kytler Peninsulae was the only team to emerge with a perfect three wins from three matches, finishing three points clear of the runners-up and more than doubling the points of any other team. Qusmo finished fourth out of six, while Nyowani Kitara finished fifth — earning points against only Tikariot, the sole team to finish without any points. If that is any indication, we might expect the Peninsulae to run away with this group, with Qusmo and Nyowani Kitara fighting for the scraps and Olastor, as the wild card which didn’t participate, perhaps being able to punch above them both — but, again, it was only a series of friendlies. We’ll see what happens when the real fixtures begin.

Overall

Qusmo has been drawn into a group containing the only team that has ever managed to beat it in normal or extra time at a World Cup since its present manager took over two cycles ago. Qusmo has been drawn into a group containing the best-ranked pot three nation in the tournament, which won their group over the Caldera Sun when Ilinx-Kepex was still playing and Qusmo hosted a major tournament for the first time. Qusmo has been drawn into a group containing the joint-top-ranked pot four nation in the tournament, with a glorious, fairly recent history including runs to both the World Cup and Copa Rushmori semifinals, both unparalleled by any other team in Group B.

And for all their recent Multiversal success, Qusmo currently holds an active, six-tournament streak of group stage eliminations at the Copa Rushmori. Qusmo’s all-time records in both Copas Rushmori and simply against Rushmori teams: a win rate under twenty-five percent, a loss rate over fifty percent, and a points per match rate of under one per game. It’s been twenty cycles since Qusmo has reached a Copa Rushmori knockout fixture outside its own borders — and in each one they’ve played, they’ve never won. Ilinx-Kepex has enjoyed plenty of success before, but can they really lead the Caldera Sun to a breakthrough at a Copa Rushmori?

Personnel

Coaching staff

Manager: Ron Naeve (56, m) — Image Sanford
Manager for Martin Luther; won League of the Single Sun (twice), Sanfordan national championship (five times), Federation Shield (twice), Cup of Two Nations, Cup of Sanford (twice), and Pavolan Super Cup (twice) as a manager.
Six seasons of the League of the Single Sun have been completed so far. Naeve has led Martin Luther to the national championship game all six years, winning it all but once, and becoming the only Sanfordan club ever to win the League of the Single Sun, its Federation Shield, or the Pavolan Super Cup. Martin Luther has won all six major trophies it’s eligible for in the Federation of the Single Sun. No manager is dominating Sanfordan soccer like Naeve is, and he is the choice to lead Sanford out to their first-ever home Copa Rushmori.

Naeve plays a 4–3–3. Naeve employs a double pivot and a ten in midfield, which joins a three-player forward line to wreak havoc on opponents. Naeve’s teams tend to be patient with the ball, for better or worse, and much of their play flows through the attacking midfielder in the middle of it all. Out of possession, Naeve’s teams often employ a mid-block — again, patiently waiting for the right moment to strike. It has been effective in Sanford, but can Naeve’s strategy work against the elite national teams Sanford may encounter in the Copa Rushmori?

Assistant Manager: Bethany Meierhenry (52, f) — Image Sanford
Assistant manager for River Valley; former assistant manager for Sanford U20; former attacking midfielder for River Valley; won Cup of Sanford (thrice) as an assistant manager; won Sanford PREMIER Cup as a player.
Meierhenry is an old-school, no-nonsense leader who will demand respect from a group of young players. She was an assistant for the U20s in the only tournament Sanford had ever previously hosted — Campeonato Rushmori Juvenil XV Sub-20 — and, having learned a great deal in that role about managing a national team, managing youth players, and managing the pressure of a home tournament, Meierhenry was tapped to manage the U20 team at Campeonato Rushmori Juvenil XVIII Sub-20 last cycle, which Sanford also cohosted. That young Sanfordan team not only made it out of the group stage but won a knockout fixture on home soil, the best performance any Sanfordan team has ever had at any international competition. She’ll hope to impart her magic on this team to accomplish something extraordinary, as well.

Goalkeeper Coach: Jerry Matthius (49, m) — Image Sanford
Goalkeeper coach for Martin Luther; former goalkeeper for Sanford Falls PREMIER and Baptists; won League of the Single Sun, Sanfordan national championship (thrice), Federation Shield, Cup of Two Nations, Cup of Sanford, and Pavolan Super Cup as a goalkeeper coach; won Sanford PREMIER League as a player.
Jerry Matthius may have been the best Sanfordan goalkeeper of its Sanford PREMIER League era, and he was in goal for all four of the senior team’s matches before this tournament — recording two clean sheets, including one against mighty Nephara. Matthius was never all that great at distribution, but he sure as hell stopped the ball from going in the net, and that’s what counts. A longtime Baptists star, he was first poached as a player by Sanford Falls PREMIER, then hired away to third city rival Martin Luther as Naeve’s goalkeeper coach, before being appointed to the same role on Naeve’s national team staff.

Kits

Image

Sanford’s kits are designed and manufactured by uni·q. The main kits are green, with white and gold trim; the change kits are black, with gold trim; and the third kits are white, with gold trim. The front of the shirt of each design prominently features a gold outline of the Rushmori mainland. The crest combines the most notable aspects of Sanford’s flag into a single image: the star, the S, and the distinctive green. The shoulder patch is a Sanfordan version of the Rushmori regional flag. Each symbol is modified on the change and third kits to align with those designs’ overall color schemes.

Players with an asterisk* are considered the more aggressive on this team. They are more likely to pick up yellow cards, and are the only players who should pick up red cards.

1 Peter DE BEUKELAER GK, Aardswood United
A former U21 international who has been a central part of his club's startling rise to the top of the Kytlerian NSL - and the IFCF knockout stages - for some time now. Solid in all aspects of goalkeeping, a previous streak of youthful inconsistency is now mostly behind him.

2 ZORNO-ZORNO Bux LB/CB, Florley Garden City
The last few years have seen a relative struggle for some Kytlerian young prospects to break into the senior setup, but this Qusma-Kytlerian has defied that. Their name might sound like a particularly dubious cryptocurrency, but with their strong defensive instincts they're a key part of the Gardeners' - and now the Kytlerians' - block chain.

3 Davíð SVENSSON RB/CB, Foothillers
What happens when Oliver Vandome is given the tournament off, in theory for "load management" and in practice surely because of absolute paranoia at the optics of having a TPL player in the squad? Well, the local hero from Glacier View has inherited the #3 shirt at least. Like Vandome, equally capable at right- and centre-back, splitting the difference at his club by playing on the right of the central defensive trio in the Climbers' 5-2-3/3-4-3.

4 Liz OKNEY CB, AFC Carroll Lewiston
Long hyped internally as a potential saviour to the Magicians' long-held defensive frailty, she has fulfilled those expectations in recent seasons and been central to the team's emergence as a perennial NSL title contender. Comfortable in possession and not a liability with either foot, she's typically deployed on the left of a centre-back pairing.

5 Katla ANDERSDÓTTIR RB/RWB, Bay City United
Key defensive cog - and occasional creator - in Chen Huikang's legendary CdC-winning Bay City United side has been not quite the same since the heart of that team got ripped out by the Flight 134 tragedy, but that changed in the Blues' last title-winning campaign
and her experience is still highly valued on the NT. Noted for picking the right moments to go forward.

6 Zachary EDWARDS-HILLIER* CDM/CM, Galatica (PAS)
At the heart of this team's rebuilt midfield thanks to being one of the foreign-based players who weren't in the doomed squad, Edwards-Hillier is an enforcer who will chase after anyone and anything to get the ball and then distributes it nicely once he does. Arguably the team's player of the tournament in World Cup 100.

7 VICENTE Bautista Oleandro CM/CAM/LM, Miposojeon (QUE)
Has been the face of this national team since it was refounded. Usually lives in the left half-space, where he's a threat to curl the ball directly goalwards with his right foot or into the danger zone with either. A Q-League champion with Miposojeon, he's the one Kytlerian who truly might be amongst the best players in the multiverse.

8 Stijn BEVERWIJK CM/CAM, Florley Garden City
A true number 8 wearing the right number, his combination of first name and ability to read the game has given him joking comparisons to Kytlerian chess star Stijn van Dijk. The latter has been part of a dynasty with three Elephant Chess Cup wins and six top-three finishes, both records; Beverwijk has also made a little history, scoring in the Kytlerians' first World Cup quarterfinal.

9 Charles PACKARD ST/CF, Aardswood United
Scored 20 in a 30-game season in Siovanija & Teusland... on a team that got relegated because they conceded 99. In 30 games. Duly returned home with his stock freshly raised and his place as the Kytlerian number 9 affirmed. A tall, physical striker with well-rounded skills, he's adapted to the off-ball duties of the striker in the 4-1-4-1 run by Aardswood and now the NT, bringing historic silverware to the former.

10 Hjördis SIGURDSDÓTTIR CF/ST/CAM, Aardswood United
Speaking of which, here's the fun-sized forward who has operated as Aardswood's "false 10" to devastating effect since being signed by Thomas Hooker shortly before getting the call to manage the post-Flight 134 NT. Always a difficult player to track with her elusive movement in the final third, and not just because of how tall she isn't.

11 Joanne WALGRAVE LW/ST, Bay City United
First Kytlerian scorer at a WC proper in a memorable finish against Aphrilia in WC97, scoring in added time of added time after an Aphrilia goal was chalked off on video review to catalyse a breakthrough run to the octos. She's now making her own comeback with the NT after having been shunned for WC100 before top-scoring for the Blues in the last two domestic seasons.

12 Vanessa ANDREWS GK, Florley Garden City
First female goalkeeper in the NSL, then the first to represent her country, and showed plenty of signs of warranting it in the last couple of seasons. At 175cm, her relative lack of height and reach can be exploitable but her excellent positioning and reflexes help offset that, and she's also impressive on the distribution front.

13 Felix JANSEN* CDM/CM, FC Alaer
Had been a little "out of sight, out of mind" after moving to Vanorian club Atlético Bexar, but the former Aardswood player is back in the NSL at Alaer, who in turn have become really good again, and he might even now be favourite to start despite the managerial change (which in any case is just to the next Aardswood manager).

14 Tinna RAGNARSDÓTTIR CM/CAM, Foothillers
After being part of an elite tandem with the late Blær Patreksbur at Foothillers, she has now become simply the heartbeat of the team herself, driving the Climbers to improbable back-to-back IFCF appearances - first via league position in the Challengers' Cup, then in the Cup Winners' Cup via their historic SO-KP Cup triumph. A box-to-box midfielder at a high-altitude club, unsurprisingly stamina is her calling card.

15 Alex ELLINGTON RW/RM, AFC Carroll Lewiston
A late-blooming talent perhaps held back in the past by the emotional vortex of gender dysphoria, they have taken a big leap in recent seasons to become a central part of a stunning Magicians ascent, then a regular in the post-Flight 134 NT, and now forever to be remembered as the first scorer in a triple-digit World Cup. Has vivid pink hair but this somehow doesn't stop them escaping defensive attention.

16 Stephen HUNTER CB/CDM, Roddens City
The twin brother of Flight 134 victim Brad. Feeling the urge to build on his lost brother's legacy, he has settled in as a core piece of the national team squad as a versatile option who can be deployed as a ball-playing defender or a holding midfielder.

17 Joke FELTKAMP RW/ST, FC Alaer
Pulled out of that trip to Arrosia to settle in with her new teammates at FC Alaer, unsurprisingly struggled mentally at first, but now looks close to the level that allowed her to survive seasons plural in the Red League as a wide poacher who can do the dirty work too. Could easily replace either Ellington or Packard in the starting XI, and surely will come on for one of them in most matches if not.

18 Astrid NOBLE CM/CAM, FC Alaer
Breakout midfielder for FC Alaer, filling the void left by the fading career of StrayaRoos standout Ella Vidya seamlessly. Couldn't be ignored for the NT after that.

19 Sean O'SULLIVAN* RB/RWB, FC Alaer
Attacking right-back who has looked a lot better defensively of late, becoming a key part of FC Alaer's impressive title-winning campaign last season. His best is yet to come and he could easily be not just a spark plug off the bench but an actual starter sooner rather than later.

20 Chloe McGREGOR RW/LW/CAM, Chromatik (CMT)
Pint-sized two-footed trickster who will play anywhere in attack as long as she's not expected to operate aerially. Was wearing down from overuse in a doomed season at newly-promoted Tandridge Athletic, and jumped at the chance to be a small part of a big club at Chromatik. Now ready to be a sparkplug sub for the NT, probably as a like-for-like alternate to Sigurdsdóttir as the false 10.

21 Avery OLDHAM* CB/LB, FC Alaer
Go figure; Bay City United lose title and apparent defensive solidity, FC Alaer gain both, defender from the former loses place in the squad, defender from the latter replaces her. Go figure! Oldham, a left-footed central defender, isn't quite a like-for-like replacement for the left-back Sophie Labissiere, but may be more versatile.

22 Blake POTTER* SW/CB, Bravin Rangers
Bravin Rangers are back! And here's the son of a former soldier looking to fight for his country in a different way after guiding the garrison town club back to the top flight by leading a back line that conceded just 21 goals last season! And he replaces Mario Mangione in the squad!! Culture pendulum swings tooooo the right...

23 Taratchy TOROSSUD GK, Bay City United
The Bay City academy product looked out of his depth filling in for the late Kuno Zeelen until the Blues' title-winning campaign, when he extremely didn't. Physically commanding and good with his feet, consistency is still a question but his potential is starting to become more visibly manifest.

Potential starting XI (4-1-4-1): de Beukelaer; Andersdóttir, Svensson, Okney, Zorno-Zorno; Edwards-Hillier; Ellington, Beverwijk, Sigurdsdóttir, Vicente; Packard.

CARCA GUIDE
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BONUSIAN SQUAD

Image

The Copa Rushmori is once again upon us, and after the miraculous World Cup qualification, Bonusia will seek to do more this time around in its' region, after barely getting knocked out last edition in the quarterfinals. The last Copa brought spectacular moments for our nation such as knocking out hosts Qusmo thanks to Pedra's banger or Aitor Cea's hattrick in the 6-4 win against established Captina Island, in what is to this day the craziest game ever for the Bonusian national team and the best performance ever of the Petari striker with his country.

Now, with some new interesting Bonusian prospects shaking up foreign leagues, Boquete has brought some new young talents. The side accumulates experience while keeping things fresh with the new call-ups; a perfect combo to fight for Rushmori glory once more, and, if Llimana wants it, this time finally achieve it.

Here at Carca (as usual) we elaborated totally didn't rehash a list of all 27 players called up for the national squad, with some info about each aswell as some info about the staff, the national team as a whole and of our nation. That way you, dear Carca reader, you'll once again be the most informed fella during your lunch break!

This section is for any foreigners who might be curious about our humble land, here's some information about Bonusia:
FULL NAME: Confederació Bonusiana (The Bonusian Confederation)
POPULATION (479): 122.193.891
CAPITALS: Kynetbo/Kekla
FORM OF GOVERNMENT: Confederated parlamentary semi-monarchy
HEADS OF STATE:
  • Otger Iceta (Concòrdia Bonusiana - CB)
  • Inda' Mekalanu (Head chief of Keklagara)
OFFICIAL LANGUAGES: Catalan, Bonusian, Maki (Makanada Islands), Pedic (Pedic Islands)

CHARACTER: Although GREAT variances can be found across all the different vegueries (1st level subdivisions of Bonusia) in the country, the Bonusian society could be best described as mostly warm and welcoming. Bonusians have a very strong work ethic, during the week you'll find that very few of them will go out at bars, pubs or any other recreational place (except when there's midweek football), but by contrast this apparent seriousness of character suddenly vanishes when the workweek's over, and the partygoer Bonusians emerge from their suited-up shell. Most popular music genres are Bonusian Pop (B-POP), classical rumba and all sorts of electronic music (techno, house and makina mostly, amongst others). Although it's not widespread, specially amongst old population, drug consumption is fairly frequent and pretty normalized in Bonusia. Most common drugs are alcohol, energy drinks, marihuana and rubdisks.

INHABITANTS

The Bonusian Confederation was born as a pact of cooperation, mutual respect and shared progress between two species that coexisted in Llimana: the Earthlings and the Llimanians.

EARTHLINGS: The Earthlings arrived now almost 500 years ago to Llimana, after a long journey across the cosmos. As their name suggest, they come from a planet called Earth, which is, in unscientific terms, very far away.

Earthlings have an around 1.75m average height, with an important sex difference, the average being 1.65m for females and around 1.85m for males; and they weigh usually between 60 and 90kg. They have soft skin, with a range of colours going from pastel tan all the way to dark brown. They have a facial structure composed of two rounded ears to each side of the face, two occular cavities with their respective eves, a nose (proportionally similar in size to that of Llimanians) on the center, usually long and rounded at the end, and a mouth directly integrated below the nose in the face front. They are also hairy creatures, having their head fully covered in hair, aswell as the armpits, a great portion of the pelvis, and legs; and in the case of males they also grow hair on the chest, the back and in the face.

Almost all Earthlings came from one specific nation in their planet: a land they call Catalonia, which is their ancestral origin and which is still very present in the popular imaginary of Earthlings. It was a region which was a part of a state which tried to erase their existence, and after failing to break free and form their own state the Catalan ancestors of our fellow Earthlings ideated a seedship that put course towards our planet, which had the conditions to support Earth-origined life, in order to start anew and finally be able to govern themselves.

LLIMANIANS: The Llimanians are the first and only (known) sentient species originary of planet Llimana. They evolved their sentience around 20.000 years ago, and had since then dominated the planet.

Compared to Earthlings, Llimanians are slightly smaller and lighter, averaging 1.65m tall and weighing an average of 50 to 70kg, without noticeable sex differences. They have a far more rough and less porous skin than Earthlings, with a colour range that goes from sky blue to navy. They have a noticeably different facial structure than Earthlings, possessing two pointy ears to each side, only one big occular cavity that occupies all the upper half of the front face, and a nose, usually short and rounded under their big eye.

Their upper head is dominated by their elongated mouth, which is movable and can be used to grab small objects with their strong lips. Unlike Earthlings, they have almost no teeth, and instead they pre-grind their food before ingesting. Finally, their chest is dominated by one or a few organic minerals that Llimanians grow naturally, with varying colors that occupy all the color spectrum. Some Llimanians like to keep them clean and orderly, while others just let it grow.

Until the Great Arrival, Llimanians lived in comparatively underdeveloped societies, with the capacity to work metals but yet far away from an industrial level of technology. After the contact, Llimanians around the area, the old Bonusians, were able to adapt to most of these new technologies that the aliens brought, and this greatly improved their quality of life, and they ended up building closer and closer relations to the Earthlings, until they decided to come together under one banner.

GOALKEEPERS

1. Anna Cloquell
Age & Gender: 35, Woman
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Raich (Baix Crossà)
Club: Centre Català de Kynetbo (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: Fornal CF, Kynetbo Òc
Description: Starting in a small club in her area, Cloquell amazed everyone in the lower leagues with her capacity to strech to save shots that would be impossible for most, which earned her the nickname of "La Gata Crossana" (the Crossan Cat) and called the attention of clubs from the capital, specially the Centre Català, who ended up signing her. After a plentiful career, she affronts the last years of it with still a lot to offer to the squad.

13. Sílvia Ferrer
Age & Gender: 26, Woman
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Rabó (Makanada)
Club: Et Terminal (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: Independent d’Atriu
Description: As a good Makanadan, Ferrer is not the talkative type. Closed upon herself, rigid and at bad times bad tempered, she is however a very secure keeper; very observant, big and imposing, she's like a wall in front of the goal. She was the main reason for Atriu's excellent defensive record until she moved to the new sensation club, Et Terminal, where she won the coveted Copa de Campeones of Rushmore.

30. Amadeu Vallbona
Age & Gender: 34, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Minga (Tionera)
Club: Forestals Minganers (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: A football romantic, Vallbona has won the hearts of every football fan in Tionera, thanks to his compromise and passion for football he's always shown during his career. As a 3rd goalkeeper, his probability to play is very low, but his experience, his leadership skills and his passion will be greatly helpful to the rest of the squad.

DEFENDERS

2. Pol Miró
Age & Gender: 24, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Somorrosta (Detrívora)
Club: Inter Somorrosta (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Pol Miró (a.k.a. "Polmi") has a very serious yet flexible way of approaching football. Not the shiniest on the pitch, his spotless performance defensively, aswell as his great capacity to adapt to rtyhm changes makes him a great asset to the Bonusian squad. Furthermore, he is very appreciated off the ptich by everyone for his charity work and his kind and warm approach to fans.

3. Tomeu Gonfaus
Age & Gender: 31, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Portustal (Vicèntia)
Club: Centre Català de Kynetbo (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: CP Portustal, Et Terminal
Description: With presumably at least some more years of his career ahead, Gonfaus has made himself one of the greatest Bonusian defenders ever to play. His biggest strength is his ability to predict an attacker's movements to intercept them. His mental resilience is remarkable, and not only of use in his game but also something that hopefully helps him lead the defense after the retirement of Bruch.

4. Biel Burgés
Age & Gender: 30, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Sant Josep Follet (Augústia)
Club: Gorgelgal (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: A big and scary centerback that has grown amongst ice, cold and the fierce beasts that inhabit it. He shines because of his superior physical attributes and his survivalist mentality, which come in handy for Boquete whenever an opposing squad's attacking temptatives need to be cut short.

6. Sofia Fàbregas
Age & Gender: 31, Woman
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Mubu (Mubugara)
Club: Universitari d'Op (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Having been born in one of the most backwards regions of Bonusia, Fàbregas managed to study in Op and got to live the life she wanted. She's resilient and a great analyst, qualities that help her both in offense and defense. She part-times football and compaginates it with her research work in Classic Bonusian Literature.

12. Pol Ballèth
Age & Gender: 18, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Era Casa Limèca (Plèrnia)
Club: Pontmeosont (Auprussia Image)
Previous clubs: Front Cenetista
Description: Without doubt one of the biggest surprises of the season. The now youngest player in the squad, coming from the Occitan minority group that’s noticeably present in and around Kynetbo, was snatched without much of a fuss by Pontmeosont, a club that was struggling to keep the pace in the rapidly growing Auprussian Lige 1. His roaming liberty and his playing capacity from behind have helped his club to regain competitiveness, and Boquete hopes for him to ignite the Bonusian game from behind, as a CB or as a DM.

14. Merlina Cassadellà
Age & Gender: 20, Woman
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Oram (Trebagara)
Club: Viathyn Park AFC (Tikariot Image)
Previous clubs: Inter Somorrosta
Description: One of the best in her promotion at Inter thanks to her crazy pace and her frequent moments of enlightenment, it still is a mystery how the knotteds didn’t try her out for the first team; given their lack of convincing right-backs. The TPL spotted her talent and she’s now one of the starters for Viathyn Park, She was part of the U-20 Bonusian squad that lifted the CRJ in Qusmo, and hopes are that she brings similar successes to the absolute squad.

18. Francesca Rojo
Age & Gender: 24, Woman
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Arroça (Sau)
Club: Anticicló Molina (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Cheerful, creative and unpredictable, Rojo brings the spark to the Bonusian defensive line, acting in ways that could seem strange to most, trying daring and highly risky maneuvers. Even though sometimes it backfires, this unpredictability makes attackers less likely to ever outdo Rojo, as she keeps reinventing herself time and time again.

22. Àngels Catchot
Age & Gender: 28, Woman
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Beldeka (Keklagara)
Club: Keklaneka Esportiu (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: Kekla Akagaja, Bubu Mubu
Description: One of the few players who played and then left Bubu Mubu, Catchot picked up some of their philosophy of instinctive playing, and started to develop it to suit her needs. Leaving raw instinct behind and instead developing his capacity to do without thinking, Catchot is able to think and do way faster than any of her teammates.

MIDFIELDERS

5. Sibil·la Casas
Age & Gender: 27, Woman
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Vilamolla de Montgras (Tionera)
Club: Phönix SV (Calgasia Image)
Previous clubs: Forestals Minganers
Description: Born to a family of lumberjacks, Casas has certainly applied some family knowledge into football. A defensive midfielder that chops down opponents’ gameflow like fresh wood. Her solidity on the pitch has helped push Calgasian Phönix SV to a new league title after a 5-year drought and to an Associations Trophy final. Surprisingly, despite her rough and intense gamestyle, she's actually a very soft and sensible person. She likes to play the ukelele in her free time.

7. Antoni Obiols
Age & Gender: 30, Man
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Barraka (Llenak)
Club: Poldanz (Single Sun Federation Image)
Previous clubs: Unomenc CF
Description: More than a football player, Obiols is pure nerve: He just can't stay still. In whatever he does, he needs to be in the move constantly. Ofc in the pitch it makes him a very valuable player when you need to do high press or move the ball fast to avoid a steel defense. He worked wonderfully at Unomenc, which has a straight-forward style which requires a high work-rate, and now he’ll try to work well in the League of the Single Sun, after signing for the Qusma giants of Poldanz.

8. Isaac Boleda
Age & Gender: 26, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Rocafonda (Laietània)
Club: Inter Somorrosta (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: Nou Roca, Rocafonda Unit
Description: The baller midfielder, the calm to the storm. He puts order in the midfield and enjoys distributing to his companions in the front. Other than that he's a pretty quiet dude, always with his headphones on listening to makina. Apparently he uses BPM of his favourite songs to adjust the rythm of his game and influence his teammates rhythm, like an orchest director.

15. Itziar Jara
Age & Gender: 23, Woman
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Kekla (Keklagara)
Club: De Vursen FK (Solgavden Image)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Nicknamed as "La Bomba" (The Bomb) due to her bad temper, Jara is not a player to mess with. Despite her young age, she had turned herself into a key piece (if not THE key piece) of her childhood club, Unió Bonusiana, before making a big move to De Vursen FK, one of the biggest clubs in the well-reputed Solgavish Kongensliga. Intensity, great pressing and her leadership skills are her greatest traits. She sometimes likes to gossip a bit too much.

16. Arnau Poveda
Age & Gender: 23, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Kynetbo (Àrea Metropolitana de Kynetbo)
Club: Universitari d'Op (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: Front Cenetista
Description: Born in one of the poorest districts of Kynetbo, Poveda perhaps wouldn't have even tried playing football was it not for the Front Cenetista youth football programme. Currently studying and pursuing a football career aswell, the midfielder shines in his decision making and his great passing, which helps with difficult defenses. His hood origins manifestate clearly in his peculiar mannerisms, thus making high-stand events difficult for him.

23. Xavier Clotet
Age & Gender: 22, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Copapèlana (Pujòlia)
Club: Axmund United (Katzeburg Image)
Previous clubs: Inter Somorrosta
Description: Clotet is the new youngest sensation in Bonusia. In a squad with a median age of less than 25 is saying something, that’s for sure. Clotet proved his worth in the Campeonato Rushmori U-20, taking the squad to victory with his tempered style. He acts more as an anchor and starts plays from behind, a baller DM that Boquete is absolutely delighted with.

24. Zoe Calet
Age & Gender: 24, Woman
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Kynetbo (Àrea Metropolitana de Kynetbo)
Club: Et Terminal (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Serious, even sometimes depressing, she's a very negative person overall. However, she's capable of using her negativity to predict difficulties, and prevent them. She's able to resolve in the worst of situations, which has proven vital for Et Terminal’s great success, now that she combined her abilities with those of the young newcomers of the squad.

25. Salut Rus
Age & Gender: 26, Woman
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Keklabluka (Keklagara)
Club: Keklaneka Esportiu (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Quiet and sneaky, Rus uses her capacity to make her way through overcrowded midfields to get herself and the ball wherever she wants. Not much is known about her personal life, other than a possible passion for boat replicas.

FORWARDS

9. Aitor Cea
Age & Gender: 23, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Pètar (Mestrívola)
Club: Z'ai'ai (Chromatika Image)
Previous clubs: UE Pètar
Description: What to say about Cea. The boy from Pètar has been a huge boom in Chromatika, helping to bring the eternal underperformers of Z'ai'ai back to glory, achieving 3rd place and getting all the way to the Challengers Cup Quarterfinals; all while being a key player for the team and scoring no less than 20 goals in his first season. His hat-trick against Captina Island in the Round of 16 of the Copa Rushmori stays to this day the best single performance of a Bonusian National Teamer with the Estrella Negra. He's competitive and takes the game very seriously, but he also knows how to get loose. He has a little gambling addiction issue.

10. Bernat Formiga
Age & Gender: 24, Man
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Sant Josep Saler (Fangalera)
Club: Wirr Tsi Lightning (Chromatika Image)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Formiga is the pinnacle of the classic Llimanian winger. Using his superior speed he passes through defenses like they're made out of cardboard. He's helpful and always tries to lend a hand to his teammates, but he's capable of the worst with whoever he considers his enemy. He's decided and he's got not a drop of fear in his body, so in general it's the type of guy you want to be friends with. He has moved to Chromatika, to enter a newcomer of the league, the Wirr Tsi Lightning; in a transfer move that left Keklaneka fans orphan of a star and pretty resentful towards the Fangaleran winger.

11. Jofre Ramon
Age & Gender: 26, Man
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Wèep (Pungapu)
Club: Associació Pèdica (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: Coming from the sunny Pedic Islands, Ramon is not one to lose his temper at all. He's always calm and smiling, no matter what happens to him (most probably the rubdisks have something to do with that). Regarding football, he's grown amongst Pedics and their various cultural practices involving feet and it's control, so that and his natural ability have turned him into a skill master, being able to do things with the ball that no one else can. This ability has earned him the title of team wizard, with his boots chanelling his magic and imprinting it into the pitch.

17. Antonieta Dou
Age & Gender: 25, Woman
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Sant Puigdemont (Plèrnia)
Club: Centre Català de Kynetbo (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: Interstany Al·lol·la
Description: A young winger already shining for the Centre Català, Antonieta is the disruptive element of the Mechanical Fuet's. Her and the Osnari Wenert Bitzius form a lethal duo that has been asserting the barretines’ strength in the league and abroad. Unconformist and anti-comfortist, she puts past wingbacks usually by sheer power of will. She can seem off quite rude and edgy at first glance, but in reality, covered by several layers of bad humor and apparent toughness, she's a big softie.

19. Isaac Pedra
Age & Gender: 26, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Unom (Plana d'Unó)
Club: Unomenc CF (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: A very competitive and hungry youngster who is already marking an era for Unomenc, helping them grab an excellent 3rd position last season while being the top scorer for his team. Like a good Unomian, he's passionate about everything, in his case specially towards football. With him in the pitch, no one is worried about a loss. At least with him in your team, no one'll be able to say that you haven't tried.

20. Ares Miró
Age & Gender: 22, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Somorrosta (Detrívora)
Club: Inter Somorrosta (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: It's the second brother of the Miró family, after his older brother Pol. The rise of the youngster has been metheorical. In what has been his first season playing for Inter's first team, he has managed to take the spot of a Lluís Portí that has seemed to keep losing his brightness over time. Skill and strength have been his presentation card, although his young age can still show.

21. Ot Sans
Age & Gender: 21, Man
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Les Gorgues de Ketikla (Ralí)
Club: Anticicló Molina (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: No previous clubs
Description: He was finally called up after performing spectacularly with the Isòbares for a good amount of seasons now. With his speed, his vision and his acquired capacity to play fast association football he’s turned into the reference man for an Anticicló Molina on the rise, and his traits hopefully help the team unblock difficult games.

26. Ainara Valladares
Age & Gender: 21, Woman
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Wèep (Pungapu)
Club: Keklaneka Esportiu (Bonusia)
Previous clubs: Associació Pèdica
Description: Another of the big pearls that we saw with the juvenile squad, Valladares acted mostly as their X Factor, and now does too in Kekla. Her Wèepian style shows, using all kinds of ball-tricks to invent plays that destabilize opposing defenses. She has become a new figure in a Keklaneka that was left orphan after the departure of Formiga.

HEAD COACH
Xavier Boquete
Age & Gender: 57, Man
Species: Earthling
Birthplace: Barçanini (Lokinalien)
Description: Boquete was once a very promising midfielder suspect for his hometown team, Barçanini Platanar, but sadly an extremely severe entry in a match against KabaBarraka left him in a wheelchair at just 17 years old, ending his playing career. However, instead of giving up on football, he started to learn and work to become a manager. After having passed through several teams in the First Division, the FBF called, and Boquete made a step forward and decided to take on the monumentous task that is selecting the best this country has to offer and guiding them through their first ever international competition.

ASSISTANT COACH
Javi Medina
Age & Gender: 55, Man
Species: Llimanian
Birthplace: Prats de Lilvienna (Cebana)
Description: Javi Medina has never been a very fond football fanatic, but he is an old friend of Boquete, with whom a very strong friendship since they both studied at the University of Mekalanu, in Kekla. His long expertise in training all kinds of professional athletes is why Boquete has counted on him to assist him in matters regarding players' physical form and wellbeing.

Much closer than Zys would have preferred but a win is a win.

Part of the issue may have been adjusting to Bohr's seemingly amorphous and off-kilter 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 / 4-4-2 (a.k.a. 4-2-2-2) in real time throughout the match, which prevented Zenic from getting into a solid rhythm. The Survivors' midfield 5 did a good job of maintaining the ball in the middle of the pitch but struggled to get anything moving towards Bohr's goal which led to a stalemate for most of the match. It took a full hour of play before the first, and only, goal awoke Kilmonarch.

Captain Dejulio found one of the few openings of the match and pushed forward. The walls of Bohr began to close on him but he managed to get a pass off to the far left corner for Nakazawa. A little crossover and he found enough space to put the ball into the box for a leaping Gentile. While he did manage to hit the ball with some strength, it didn't have enough to beat Arnold Harrow. It did have enough spin on it to hit the post and ricochet to Seamons in the box. His shot attempt bounced off of a defend and right back to him before he decided to pass it over to Martina Fátima for her first ever national team goal and the first ever Survivors goal by a woman. The new crew were making an immediate impact on Zenic and it wasn't the last major contribution from them in this match.

A few minutes later, Zys made the call to bring in Atanasio Borja, Gastone Ewart and Válter Geovana Couto to replace Devor, Dubravko, and Pekkio respectively. The plan was to give more freedom to Nakazawa and Dettmann as Borja would stay closer to Dejulio and Seamons while Ewart and Couto were like-for-like replacements with fresh legs. This way, they would do their best to avoid parking the bus (not their strong suit) while not opening themselves up to an opposition counterattack by being too aggressive searching for that safety net of a second goal. Thankfully, it worked out quite well and Zenic held on for a hard fought 1-0 victory over Bohr.

The squad was now unwinding and enjoying a team meal before needing to travel almost halfway across the main island to reach the capital for what they expect to be their toughest opponent, Bonusia. At least they would get to play in the luxurious Stade de Torgos while fighting tooth and nail to retain their unexpected early lead in Group C. A draw in Torgos would mean Zenic may only require a draw in Targas in order to win the group outright or via tiebreaker while a win would mean Zenic could win the group even with a loss against Airannia. But Zys was not the type to willingly leave things up to fate.

If Zenic could take destiny into their own hands and win this group with a game to spare? Who knows. Maybe the Copa was coming back home to The Vatmark?

Eastfield Lodge Roster for Copa Rushmori 51

Image

Demonym: Eastfielder

The Imperial Commonwealth of Eastfield Lodge is a vast conglomerate of nations and states that resides almost entirely in a separate dimension to the reality you all know and love - a bubble universe would be an apt description (the why is a long story, involving the Dreamed Realm and a threat to the existence of the entire universe). The one bit of the country that lies in the regular dimension is a tiny island in the northern seas of the famous sporting region Rushmore, which serves as a transport hub for travel across the region by conventional transport, and for travel to the Imperial Commonwealth via something called a Void Ship (think of it like travelling through a well controlled wormhole).

The history of the country is long and complex, but the key overview is that it is a very socialist Muslim constitutional monarchy, with a noted reputation as being one of the nicest places to visit in the entirety of the known multiverse - the most recent WA census puts the Imperial Commonwealth in the top 100 nations in several measures such as Safety, Compliance/freedom from crime, Tourism, Weather, Compassion, Niceness and Environmental Beauty, amongst several others; most of which are also ranked as the best in the Rushmore region. Because of the initial portal, the nation advanced forwards in leaps and bounds technologically due to intermingling with denizens of another dimension, various alien races from the universe in which the popular RLStates TV show Doctor Who is situated. Whilst these aliens used to take part in life in the Imperial Commonwealth, even forming the Eastfielder National Team for a number of tournaments, they no longer exist in this bubble universe, due to a dimensional shift no longer aligning the two dimensions - for now, Eastfield Lodge only contains those beings that you find elsewhere in the NS multiverse.

Whilst we are a fairly chill nation, we are still fairly socially conservative, and there are plenty of special rules visitors need to be aware of:
  • No Alcohol. At all.
  • No smoking or recreational drugs at all. Visiting team members/fans will be given replacement/cessation therapy if struggling to cope.
  • No public displays of affection. What you get up to in the privacy of your own hotel room is up to you, as long as it stays there.
  • There isn't a legally enforced dress code, but at least dress respectfully, the locals will appreciate you.
  • Cities are by and large car-free zones; make use of the extensive public transport system.
  • Don't worry about a language barrier, there is an inbuilt telepathic translation circuit within the visas that you will be issued - it translates all speech and text into a language you understand instantaneously.
  • No unhealthy junk food will be available, the country is too healthy for that. Also, the food will all be halal, but there is an extensive range of vegetarian/vegan options for those who insist.
  • Ignore all the cameras and the police presence. They're for the safety of everyone.
  • High-level technology pervades every aspect of society and life here, get used to it.
Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Tavernia Stadium
Location: Tavernia
Capacity: 65,921
Description: Currently the largest stadium outside of Eastfield Lodge itself, Tavernia Stadium sits near the heart of the city of Tavernia, in Westmeadow Tavern, the nation bordering Eastfield Lodge. WC85 will see the stadium's debut when it comes to hosting the Eastfield Lodge National Team, but it is no stranger to WC football though - it was the home ground for Westmeadow Tavern when they had their own international football team in the earlier years of the Imperial Commonwealth. It is also home to the two best teams in Westmeadow Tavern, with FC Tavernia and Tavernia City plying their trade here.

Manager: Alexander Jager (Age: 55)
After a dismal attempt at qualifying in World Cup 101, Eastfield Lodge chose their second international manager in the history of the Imperial Commonwealth, selecting former Pasargan natonal team striker Alexander Jager to try and lead the team back into the heights of the World Cup finals. It's a tall order for any person, but especially so for someone's first ever senior managerial role as well, as Jager left his role as assistant manager of 9 years for one of Pasarga's biggest club sides CA Paulinthal to take up this opportunity to ruin his career make a name for himself. And made a name for himself he did, changing up the Imperial Commonwealth's playstyle in such a way that it immediately paid dividends, as the Lodgers only went and won a trophy by beating Katzeburg to win Cup of Harmony 93. And now he is setting his sights on the Copa Rushmori, a competition the Imperial Commonwealth have won before, but hoping to upset the nation of his birth in the process as well.

Formation: 4-4-2 Diamond
Image

Why change what's been successful? Eastfield Lodge continue to employ the old 4-1-2-1-2 or the 4-4-2 diamond that the Lodgers employed around a hundred years ago when they first entered the multiversal football scene, instituted by Jager went he arrived on the scene. Jager is setting the side up to its strengths, a solid defensive core but a side that also has potent attackers, and with two strikers instead of the single striker the Imperial Commonwealth has had for the last few dozen tournaments, there's more options in the striker department to tweak things, including having one striker drop back to support the midfield as necessary.

Captain: Beatrisa Darragh
Vice-Captains: Chappell Holdsworth, Zakaria Webber, Boet Caceres
Penalties: Strikers, Scripps, Caceres
Corners/Free kicks – other: Caceres, Halward, Scripps (long throws)
Free kicks – shooting: Caceres, Halward

Give out yellow cards to my players: Y (maximum five, TG me with a reason for more)
Give out red cards to my players: Y (only one more than the number given to your team, maximum of three - i.e. I get two red cards, you must have at least one)
RP injuries to my players: Y (Maximum 3, no career-ending injuries without my explicit permission – I reserve right to how long players are out; you can RP how severe it looks)
Godmod injuries: Y (within some reason)
Godmod scoring events: Y (Have fun.)
Godmod other events: Y (TG me if you're planning on killing anybody though, or anything really extreme.)

If I do RP, I will include the line-up for the next match in my RP post, along with any suspensions/injuries. If there is no line-up, look through my posts and check for current suspensions/injuries, but otherwise it’s fine. Also, if you're RP'ing any part of my match, please use the full name Eastfield Lodge at least once, it helps me find the RP.

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

The Climber
Kaleo Solomon's journey has been sometimes baffling, often brilliant, and always active

When Kaleo Solomon was still coming up in Bohr’s soccer world, when he was a sophomore midfielder on a college team going nowhere, the thing people always latched onto was how intellectual he was. It made sense from a biographical perspective, of course-he was studying electrical engineering (!) at Donnell (!!), on the all-academic team all four years, and was fluent in three languages. “Whenever I talked to people from Becis, they would rave about Kaleo’s decision-making, his vision, his ability to work two steps ahead”, says William Sagan, his former collegiate coach. “It’s not that he’s bad at any of those things, but if that’s what you’re raving about I can tell you’ve never watched a full game of our team”. Because when you do watch Solomon play, the thing you notice is his sheer energy-always running (even if it hurts the overall structure), always hassling attackers, always forcing defenders to pay just a little bit more attention to him than a defensive midfielder would otherwise deserve. His final game for Donnell epitomized that. Down 0-2 at the half, physically and technically overmatched compared to championship factory Northwest Provincial, Solomon bore down and kept pushing, scoring to make it 1-2 and then getting a takeaway high up on the pitch and sending it through to tie the game. When (fellow national team member) Cain Calais broke their hearts in extra time, Solomon briefly, quietly, sat down on the pitch and sobbed; then, like nothing had happened, he went to the press conference and moved on.

“It’s the only time I’ve ever done that after a game.” When I’m sitting with Solomon, he is, as always, working; this time, he’s got a set of flashcards with basic Pasargan vocabulary that he’s flipping around. “I’d like to think I’ve grown since then.” When Shansco Athletic got outclassed against Heavenly Princess in Bohr Championship Football’s most recent season, effectively eliminating them from title contention (Solomon’s first time losing a title since that college championship), there were no tears, just more practice sessions. “I don’t dwell on things anymore”-he admitted that he barely remembers most of the games he’s played in-”because if I do, I spiral pretty quickly”. He is, for the most part, a closed book when it comes to his childhood, where he lived in a small town near the Askoy Mountains in the north-east before moving to Motan during middle school. “I did my homework, I played, I ate, I slept”, he says, with a verbal shrug. His coaches are more effusive-Sagan calls him “the best player a coach could ever have”, Athletic coach Aiden Wallace calls him “a model professional and a genius”-but no better at figuring out what makes him tick. “When he was a rookie, we had a break in the season, and Wallace gave us time off”, says ex-teammate Bennett Rosales. “And so we get back, I ask him if he did anything fun, kind of trying to yank his chain a little bit-and he says he went and climbed Mt. Auber,” the tallest mountain in Bohr. “And he has this matter-of-fact way of saying these things where I have to take a couple schoches to figure out whether he’s joking or not, and I eventually realize he’s not and ask him, you know, why the hell he would do that, it’s slani dangerous, people die out there, et chetera, and he looks at me like it’s the stupidest question he’s ever heard.” The next time he robs a lazy defender pass from forty yards out, or teleports into the box to finish an attacking move, I’ll imagine him giving that look to anyone who asks why.
