Welcome to the first edition of the Calix Magnae Teremarae Cup. The CMT is an association football tournament for the Teremara region only. Nations participating already signed up for this tournament off NS and are listed below.

SCORING

Scoring will be done utilizing the latest edition of Xkoranate SQIS, with all the default draw deciders. 3 points awarded for wins, and 1 for draws.
No ranking from other tournaments outside of Teremara will apply to this tournament, nor will ranking from the Copa Classico of SE Madurin be factored in. As this is the inaugural CMT Cup, all participating nations are starting with zero rank points.
Style modifiers (-5 to +5) will be accepted, but if none listed, the default of zero will be assumed.
I have lined up a friend from the NSS community to do 3rd party scoring for any matches beyond the group stage that might involve my nations.

RP BONUS

Players can earn bonus points for RP for a total of two nations. More than two nations per player can be submitted with the caveat that the player must choose which two can receive bonus points, with the remaining nations ineligible to receive any points throughout the tournament, regardless of RP and rosters posted. Roster posts (with listed stadiums) are strongly encouraged, and are also a common courtesy to your fellow players to enable better RP. They should contain your roster (hence the name) of players and coaching staff, but can additionally feature your home stadiums, kit/uniform colors, media coverage, and RP Permissions. If no RP permissions are included, that allows other players to do as they will when RPing a match with your team, up to and including injure (or worse) your team players and fans.
Roster posts are highly encouraged and will earn a generous minimum to maximum amount of points. Rosters/initial posts posted after the scoring of the first match day will be eligible for less maximum possible points and degrade incrementally to zero. RP posts after the roster post will be eligible for the same amount of minimum up to the maximum amount of points allowed.
When RPing beyond your roster post, you can roleplay about absolutely anything you want - beyond the match, and even the sport (But RP must stay within NS site rules, of course).
Myself and Espicuta will be judging RP for bonus, with an average of the two deciding the bonus points for everyone, and each other deciding the bonus points for the others’ posts.

THE PRIZE

The nations of Teremara’s best footballers will be competing for the Five Oceans Cup.

So named for the 5 oceans of Teremara: Androvan, Kraslyng, Tavlyrian, The Middle Waters, and The Madurin Sea. This trophy is the ultimate honor for a Teremaran national football team. No hardware is awarded for 2nd and 3rd place, although those teams do earn a position of honor and will grace the winner’s stage at the end of the tournament.

GROUPS

With twenty nations participating, they will be divided into four groups of five, with a mix of nations drawn from pools representing each sub-region at the OOC hosts discretion (as there is no ranking to divide pools for draws), and care given to not group two nations controlled by one player together in one group (except for the host)
The best 2 performing nations will advance from each group into the quarterfinals. The four quarterfinals winners will advance to the semifinals. Then a final match to decide the Cup and 2nd Place winners. A 3rd place playoff match will occur the same day as the final match.

Jumnia: A Brief Overview

The Republic of Jumnia is located within an arctic region on the north eastern tip of the Tavlyrian continent, which ensures that the nation suffers from long, harsh winters, and short, mild summers. The nation's history is as cold and dark as its climate, filled to the brim with war and bloodshed. Yet, despite this, the citizens are a close knitted people, who places emphasis on familial ties, honest hard work, spending time bonding around a tankard of ale, and telling tales of all sorts.

Football History

Following the outbreak of the Northern Tavlyrian War, civilization grinded to a halt, including all professional sport codes. Some would say that this was no great consequence where Jumnian football was concerned, as beside a few small regional tournaments, the national squad never made any serious crowd drawing appearances. The interest in football was always there, just not the required determination and skills to make it to the big leagues.

This all changed however at the conclusion of the war, with the Republic's government implementing various projects within the nation to assist in rebuilding the nation's economy, infrastructure and society. To this end, the Jumnia Football Union was established, and mandated to give rebirth to this sport, with the aim of bringing the nation as a whole together, reclaim some self respect for the nation, and simultaneously generate economic opportunities.

The JFU wasted no time to spend the allocated funds - partnering with the Jumnian Rugby Union, in order to construct 6 new stadiums across the nation, in tandem with launching new domestic leagues, academies and other grassroots initiatives.

The stage for a new future, was set.

The team is affectionately known as "The Ravens", by their fans and the media - in reference to the team's logo, which itself is based on the nation's national animal - the Jumnian Raven.

About the Stadium:

The Ravenheart Gardens Stadium is the largest stadium within the Republic of Jumia, and also the newest, constructed after the end of the Northern Tavlyrian War, as part of the government's National Rebuilding Campaign. The stadium was designed and built to convey the message of "Massive, Luxurious and Modern", as an attempt to show the nation, and the region at large, that the nation is now stronger and more united than ever before as a result of the disastrous War. It was also a good way of getting the war stricken people of the city back to work, and the destroyed economy back in gear. It is an enclosed / roofed stadium, allowing it to be used for both day and night games, during all seasons, despite the harsh arctic climate of the nation. The stadium is fitted with a grass turf, seats for 80,000 spectators and 100 executive suites. The stadium does not provide for standing spectators.

Peninsula Park National Stadium, home of the team bearing the same name, is the premier sports venue in Waddon and the country. Located on the picturesque east bank of the Waddon River, Peninsula Park is a modern, state-of-the-art sports venue, built to celebrate the turn of the century. It is capable of hosting ~87,000 fans, as well as thousands more in ancillary venues, including bars, pubs, restaurants and viewing areas. Football in Espicuta - The League, the National Team and its style of play.

The Espicutan people adore their sports, and football is the primary of these. One of the first nations in the region to play the sport professionally, Espicuta has invested heavily into her leagues and National Team over the last century. For the matriarchy, supporting a football club is the perfect 'safe' outlet for the tribal instincts of their menfolk and local communities are heavily advised to support their local teams. For the National Team, support from the citizens of the Queendom is assumed by default. For any match to leave tickets unsold is almost unheard of and vast numbers of travelling fans support the National Team wherever it goes. Though some of the more exciting young Espicutan players have been lured abroad by (primarily) Frankenlischian money in recent years, they still turn out when called up by the Real Federación Espicuta de Fútbol.

Lucrative television deals and commercial sponsorships have made the clubs of the Real Liga, the Espicutan top division, incredibly rich and able to spend significant sums on players and facilities. There has been some concern in recent years over the effect of these obscene sums but they have almost certainly made sure the Real Liga is one of the most highly watched leagues around.

The Men's National Team is led by its head coach, Maria Isabel Tejedor - who as a player had eighty caps for the Women's National Team. The Captain is the indomitable Carlos Montoya, currently of Aquilla FC, who has been playing in the Real Liga since the age of seventeen - a remarkably young debut for a center-back. Now at the age of 31, Montoya is leading the National Team into (probably) his last major international tournament. The Espicutan Men's National Team usually utilises a 4-2-3-1 formation, relying on a strong, high press to stifle the opposition and fast, attacking full-backs operating on the overlap with talented wingers to create chances. Out of possession, the team transitions into a 4-3-3 to soak up pressure and prepare for a counter-attack. Though the EMNT is not known for its counter-attacking football, preferring to play with control of the ball, the fast transition allows for this kind of play when necessary.

This story is a flashback of Jumnia’s head coach, Einar Kaldstrum, when he was 18 years of age.

The rancid smell of Einar Kaldstrum’s home is something he would never, in seventeen lifetimes, forget: the unmistakable stench of moldy wood and cheap liquor. It clung to everything, and seeped into your very bones, into the very soul. The only way he could ever find some temporary reprieve was not by merely going outside; it was by running.

In this morbid thing called childhood, there were only two places in the world which made some sort of sense. Primarily, it was the pitch. There on that small green rectangle, there were rules. Lines, structure, purpose. Simplicity at its finest. You ran like hell, passed the ball and scored should you be lucky and skilled. Simple. The complete opposite of that stenchy abode.

The second place which made sense in the world, was not a place per se, but a belonging. The Trio. Einar, his best friend Mikael Sorvik and his forever lover, Anja Virek. Inseparable. The other kids barely bothered to learn their individual names, instead speaking to them like they were a single entity. Neighbours since birth, and never separated since. Even on the school’s football team; Anja was always the loudest supporter, Mikael in between the posts, and Einar in motion. Always in motion, as if he was trying to run away from the very world.
Despite the daily empty stomach, despite the uncontrollable alcohol infused rage of father; Einar knew he could survive this torment, and one day, use this unstoppable foundation of the pitch and the Trio, to escape reality and make something of himself. As long as those two elements remained united in purpose.

But, as life has always proven to him, all good things are meant to be broken sometime or another. He only wished he could pretend to not notice it breaking. If he could only have been a complete idiot, in order to not understand. Not understand what he saw through that slightly ajar door. Not understand what it meant to hear her voice, conjoined with his. But he did understand, for he could not walk away, cast in concrete, stuck in place. He stood and watched and listed until he could not, not understand.

That afternoon, the cold arrived early. The kind of cold which easily penetrates your clothing and settles within your core and deep within your bones. The floodlights buzzed overhead, bringing with a false sense of heat, yet casting only soft shadows upon the lightly frosted pitch. The final match of the season was played at the dawn of the brutal Jumnian winter, but the stakes were high, despite the brutal weather. Several scouts were in the stands, shivering with warm travel mugs in hand. Their frost glazed eyes held the power to whisk him away forever.

Einar arrived late at the field, the first time he had ever reported not alongside the remainder of the Trio. No explanations provided, not a single word uttered and not a single glance afforded. Mikael and Anja tried to engage, only to be met with silence. Perhaps it was the doings of that bastard of a father again, they might have thought, and had thus not pressed the matter.

Kickoff.

The game was fast, violent and bleeding with passion. Every tackle was executed harder than it needed to be. The crowd, the ref and the scouts loved it. This was a title shot for the schools, and a chance to possibly catch a future star; rules are not to stand in the way of greatness. Einar turned into a machine; no flair or joy as normal. Just rapid, ruthless movement.

Unlike Mikael. He was clearly off his game, slower than normal, clearly distracted, clearly of guilty conscience.

Einar did his best to make up for Mikhael’s slack, despite his stoney expression and feelings of death within his heart. The second half commenced with tied scores, with both the players and the stands on edge.

It happened quickly. Too quickly for anyone else to notice. But Einar saw it the second it began. A loose ball in midfield. He collected it cleanly, with space opening ahead. All it needed was a simple and safe pass, and into the future he would go.
But then Einar saw it. He heard it. A half-open door. Her voice. His.

Reality however, didn't wait for his stuck mind, as players scrambled all around him. A sudden shout ripped him back to reality. But it was too late. The pass was blocked cleanly.

The counter attack happened rapidly and with ruthless brutality. Mikael tried to scramble back to the posts, being caught way too far off, out of position. It was too late to repair which had been broken.

The striker came through like a knife.

Impact.

A sound Einar would never forget. A bone shaking crack with the symbolic audio and weight of total finality, followed by total silence.

Mikael didn’t get up. He never got up again. Not on his own, ever again.

What followed was a combination of a blur and carnage. Players, officials and parents from the stands alike rushed upon the field in panic. There was a lot of screams, shouts and panic. The faces of the medics were pale; either from the cold or the trauma, caused by witnessing this young kid losing the ability to walk ever again.

Einar didint move from his position, despite the eruption of the chaos. He couldnt even if he wanted to. His body refused to obey his mind, although his mind was also unsure of what it wanted to actually do. The feelings of righteous justice coursing through his veins; yet also overcome with guilt.

He could see Anja kneeled beside him, crying and screaming for divine intervention.

The stretcher disappeared from the field, alongside Anja, the players, the crowd. Yet, Einar remained anchored. Moments later, snow began to fall around and atop of him in solitude. The lights switched off, bringing along absolute darkness; absolute and unforgiving silence.

Beaufort prepares for first CMT showdown against Culiacan at the Peninsula
Big test for the squad as they come out of multi-year long relegation

WADDON - For the first time since the scandal that rocked the men's team in late 2022, the Beavers will return to international play at the inaugural Calix Magnae Teremarae tournament, already being billed as one of the biggest Teremaran sports tournaments to date. Tomorrow, the Beaufortian National Men's Team will go head-to-head against the Víboras, Culiacan's national team. Spirits are high on both sides. For the Beaufortian Supporters, there is a palpable excitement in the air. On the Culiacanian side, there is a headstrong feeling following their 2-0 victory in Carabanchel on Thursday. Tens of thousands of supporters have streamed into Waddon ahead of tonight's match, and City Hall has announced an amnesty for bars and pubs in Central Waddon that stay open beyond the 11pm shut-out. Bars and Pubs can stay open until 3am, with last orders being served at 2:30.

A spokesperson for the National Men's Team told reporters in a brief press conference last night that "It's very damn good to be back on the field, playing for the glory." Messages of support have flocked in from across the political spectrum as many senior and junior politicians wish the team the best of luck. The Prime Minister told the chamber yesterday afternoon: "I'm looking mighty forward to see our brilliant team play for the chance to take home some silver. I know that I will be cheering our lads on, alongside my Wife, the Cabinet and indeed the whole chamber." It is understood the Prime Minister declined tickets for the match, on the basis that it would be "unprincipled and wholly inappropriate."

Thousands of cops drafted in from across the country as security is ramped up

In one of the largest police deployments of the year so far, police officers from across the country have been drawn up to serve for match days in the capital. Officers have come from as close as Newport and Sutphin to as far away as East Point, Asile City and Duckwaite. Up to 200 police officers from the New Beaufortian District Police have also been called in, mainly due to their Spanish language skills. Police commanders told the Post in a written statement that "We know that the vast majority of fans will act appropriately and not go beyond the law, but we also know that some will come with intent to break the law, and we are prepared for them."

Police commanders have several concerns, according to a well-placed source in the Interior Ministry. Amongst the top ones, the threat posed by Ultras is considered to be a priority. According to the same source, at least 200 Culiacanian Nationals have been refused entry to Beaufort on the belief that they are involved with Ultra groups. Ultras from Acter have also been refused tickets en-masse, and the main Ultra group for Acter Town has been subjected to a court order prohibiting their members from travelling to Waddon on match-days. Several other groups have been hit with similar court orders. Another injunction, issued by the Superior Court of the Province of Waddon, bans the "sale, distribution, use and display of pyrotechnic equipment, including flares, firecrackers, and fireworks" both 48 hours before kick-off, and 48 hours after kick-off. The Waddon Metropolitan Police has already arrested 17 people for violating this order.

Despite attempts to prevent clashes, there have been minor scuffles around the South Bank as Anti-Communist demonstrators, mainly National Rally supporters, attempted to provoke Culiacanian fans with what police commanders describe as "extremely provocative behaviour." Eyewitnesses say that during the afternoon, there were minor scuffles and brawls on the South Bank, until the police finally ordered the Anti-Communist demonstrators to leave; an emergency court order was issued that night ordering the demonstrators to stay away from Central Waddon.

Police officers, however, are not ruling out the possibility of far worse clashes, fueled by booze, to take place tonight.
