Three Rivers Classic (Athletics - CLOSED)

Postby Delaclava » Sun Jun 20, 2010 7:55 pm

Welcome to the Three Rivers Classic! The classic is named due to the three rivers that go through and surround Delaclava's capital, Catherina.

This is a track meet, where each nation will enter their athletes. In each event, first place will earn 10 points. Second place will earn 8. Third place, 6; fourth place, 5; fifth, 4; sixth, 3; seventh, 2; and eighth, 1. Whichever team takes the most point will win the meet. Men and women will not be separated in scoring; only one trophy will be awarded.

These are the list events. Each event will be contested separately by men and women.
100m
200m
400m
800m
1500m
5000m
10000m
110m Hurdles (for men, 100m hurdles for women)
400m Hurdles
4x100m relay
4x400m relay
Discus
Shot Put
Javelin
High Jump
Long Jump
Pole Vault

A delegation may enter no more than three athletes per event per gender, except for relays, where only one team can be entered. There is no limit to how many events each athlete can enter. Each nation has a limit of 80 entries, where an entry is an athlete or team being entered into one event. Three athletes in the 400m dash is three entries. One athlete in three events is three entries.

Each entry shall be given a skill modifier between 0 and 1. The average of the skill modifiers may not exceed 0.5. If no skill modifiers are given, they are all assumed to be 0.5. If only some skill modifiers are given, they are assumed to be no greater than 0.5, and are assumed to be lower if needed to make an average of 0.5

xkoranate 0.3 will be used as the scorinator. (That's actually pretty much one of the main purposes: to test the scorinator in action.)

Any questions? If so, ask! If not, sign up if you wish!

Can I just say that the timing of this isn't exactly great with the Olympics due in July. I don't see why the scorinator can't be tested in private (as a national Olympics qualifying, for example)...

My main concern is that this would detract from the Olympics, when it really shouldn't. If you were to hold this as a post-Olympics event, maybe as the test event for a world athletics tour, I might be interested.

I don't want to detract either, which is why I would try to put this at either the head or tail of the Olympics. Putting it before the beginning might hurry everything too much (not sure when the actual Olympics starts) but I could let signups simmer for a while and start this as the Olympics are ending.

Don't let Liventia put you off, I think this is a very good idea and a great way to get experience hosting multi-event competitions. ICly athletes could use this as a warm-up or a team selection - or choose to see this as even more prestigious than the Olympics.

When will it be?

Will there be any roleplay bonus? If so, how will it be allocated?

Is there going to be any IC background given for the competition?

That's what I was trying to determine. Yes, as Kel mentioned, someone could send people here as a tuneup or even a replacement for the Olympics. But if I don't get enough signups by then, I wouldn't want to interfere with the Olympics. And as LE said in #nssport:

If you were to hold this as a post-Olympics event, maybe as the test event for a world athletics tour, I might be interested.

So that's always a possibility.

Of course there will be roleplay bonus. A nation will be graded out of 10 on their RP, and the RP bonus will slowly degrade.

Well, yes, I will be giving some IC information about stadia and such. Is this what you're wondering about, or are you looking for more specific/different information?

I think after would be best, as the Olympics start in early July. I would be interested in participating, and hosting a future event should a tour develop; I'd been mulling this for some time.

It will take place after the Olympics. Keep in mind that you have to post skill modifiers as well; see OP for instructions.

And for those of you that have shown interest, remember that tagging yourself is insufficient; make sure you edit your post fully before the deadline I will eventually set (won't be for a while).

Resurrecting this. With my duties as the World Bowl host finished and the Olympics almost coming to a close, I'd like to get this going soon. I'll have signups open for at least a week.

There are three teams that have registered already, and I'd like to get at least 8-10 teams in this (although I'll accept more). So get signing up!

To clarify, 4x100/400 team gets a modifier as a whole, not the individual members of the team, correct?

Jepstonia has decided to enter and will name our athletes shortly.

IC: The Department of Sport has decided that for track and field, as it is purely a time/distance sport, we will permit more than one entrant in each event so long as they meet a minimum required time/distance in the national trials. However, we shall not permit more than two athletes in an event.

OOC: Their achievements at the Olympics mean nothing. Just as previous Olympic medallists don't get any special boosts at following Games, it shouldn't make any difference here except in RPing.

Jepstonia names Three Rivers Classic delegation

Jepstonian tryouts for the Three Rivers Classic have ended, and the results of who qualified are now official. Yonatan Mazal, of the Sporting Ministry, explains the logic behind the selections:
The Ministry decided that we were not sending anybody we thought could not compete for a medal. As well, we knew that we had to set stringent guidelines or we could wind up with an embarrassing last-place finish, which we find to be wholly unacceptable. As such, we determined times/scores for each event, and ranked them on a scale from 0 to 10, with 0 being not fit to compete on an international level, and 10 being world-class times. We determined that nobody with a score below 3 would be sent, and that we would send a maximum of two athletes per event.

The team consists of:
MEN:
100m - Ethan Hyder - 0.7
100m - Kalev Yaw - 0.4
200m - Houston Lennox - 0.5
200m - Ethan Hyder - 0.3
400m - Winston Smith - 0.4
400m - Hector Odhiambo - 0.3
800m - Hector Odhiambo - 1.0
800m - Paul Osborne - 0.4
1500m - Uriel Barak - 0.6
1500m - Stephen Vortigern - 0.3
5000m - Dominick Colson - 0.6
5000m - Ehud Westley - 0.3
10000m - Dominick Colson - 1.0
10000m - Johnathan Avishay - 0.3
4x100m relay - Hyder/Yaw/Lennox/Eliyahu Stern - 1.0
4x400m relay - Smith/Odhiambo/Osborne/Jonah Sienna - 0.4
110m Hurdles - Ihsan Rabi - 0.7
110m Hurdles - Aeron Odovacar - 0.4
400m Hurdles - George Salinger - 0.6
400m Hurdles - Holden Heller - 0.3
High Jump - Adam Mabon - 0.3
Javelin - Silas Aviv - 1.0
Javelin - Eloy Trajan - 0.3

The 46 entries consist of 26 male and 20 female entries, with not a single entrant representing Jepstonia in either Shot Put or Discus Throw. Selma Malika, Hector Odhiambo, and Evita Emem are all entered in three events, though of those only Malika is entered in three individual events.

Much of the pre-classic hype rests on those athletes who had a perfect score in the trials, including 800m runner Hector Odhiambo, 10000m runner Dominick Colson, both the men's and women's 4x100m relay teams, Javelin thrower Silas Aviv, and 100m Hurdler Felicia Perditienne.
