Roleplay grading
RP bonus will take the form of a weighted average of the following:
  • Average RP grade for each window across the entire tournament (40%)
  • Highest single RP grade for any window across the entire tournament (30%)
  • RP grade for the window immediately before the last cutoff (20%)
  • RP grade for the roster, which is also counted as an “MD0” window in its own right (10%)

Important note: a roster is required to have any ranking points at all, and the scorination methodology used at this tournament is particularly punishing to teams with zero rank!

A roster post is also the place to put your RP permissions. Here is a template you can (but don't have to) use:
Code: Select all
[box][b]My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:[/b]
I would prefer you choose these scorers:
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No[/box]

AI policy
AI-generated images or other non-text content are okay if clearly attributed. Using AI to translate text into English is also okay, as long as the original text is provided. Any AI-generated text must be very clearly indicated and be accompanied with an explanation of how it was generated. Roleplays with significant amount of AI-generated text that is meant to substitute for human-generated text will receive no bonus. Violations of the policy may result in anything from no bonus being given to that matchday, to the user’s scorination rank being zeroed out, to disqualification from future rounds of CR46.

Good luck, have fun, and may Margaret be with you!

IC Kytlerian information

The Kytler Peninsulae, as a nation, is arguably characterised by being a relatively ordinary place in an extraordinary world. This has been the basis of moral panics over the years that - especially after international incidents at the Games of the IX Olympiad in Zube and Kytler Bay City - led to decades of isolationism where Kytlerians did not participate in international sport at all, fearful of the effects of "Recognised Performance Drugs" (RPDs) whose use in high-level international sport is not only legal but actively encouraged. The day that formally put an end to the Kytlerian Isolation is referred to as Reopening Day, and its anniversary is now a national holiday.

Overall, the country is democratic, liberal, and capitalist - in that order, for the most part, though you wouldn't always know it in some rural areas. The population has been defined by various immigration waves, and the two titular peninsulae have their own origin story in that regard as well as their own character. The north is noted for its rolling chalk hills dotted by traditional villages and the windswept Komodo Channel coast. The southern peninsula (which tends to be defined as anywhere south of Kytler Bay even though most of that area really isn't much of a peninsula) has rockier, spikier terrain with some areas scarred by uranium mining.

However, most of the roughly 23 million residents of The Kytler Peninsulae live on neither, but rather in the eastern part of the country between the two peninsulae known as the Eastern Corridor - an area which, by its oldest and narrowest definition, has the colonial capital Kytler Bay City at one end and the purpose-built modern capital Zube at the other, but which quickly ran against a tightly drawn border with Albundania before that nation ceased to exist. The newly added Kytlerian land following fresh treaties after the Albundanian Collapse is referred to as the Eastern Corridor Expansion; it is not clear if there will be a second expansion following the collapse of Græntfjall, the inheritor nation to much of ex-Albundania. In many respects, this World Cup is an exercise in the Kytlerian nation building its own infrastructural capacities to reduce its dependence on the turmoil to their east - in particular, the Græntfjaller cloud computing facilities that served huge swathes of Rushmore thanks to the country's low tax/low temperature combination being absolute catnip for the industry.

There are also just over a million Kytlerians in the exclave of Bitternea, which briefly competed as an independent nation in World Cup qualification before its own localised civil war was effectively settled in favour of Kytlerian forces.

Stadium information

Each of the four groups at this competition are geographically concentrated in one quarter of the country. Matches in each group take place in the following locations, the order matching that listed in the schedule:

Group A: Zube, Florley Garden City, Carroll Lewiston
Group B: Roddens, Edencliff, Ranford
Group C: Alaer, Santa Mordana, Vengife
Group D: Kytler Bay City, Zeiven, Borlfield

Zube
Zube Olympic Stadium (61,093)

Zube - pronounced ZOO-buh - is the purpose-built Kytlerian capital, known as “Snowflake City” for the aerial appearance granted by the light colours used for roof and road surfaces in order to reduce the urban heat island effect. It was built following the Zube Agreement that formed the constitutional basis for the modern nation and named after the former village immediately to its south in which it was signed; the Jamison Farmhouse, the actual building where that happened, is a protected national landmark and was the finishing point of the Olympic marathon and triathlon routes.

As the name rather gives away, Zube Olympic Stadium also held some events that month. Expanded to around 70,000 for those Games, internal modernisation (and the removal of temporary seating) since then has reduced its capacity to the symbolic 61,093 it seats today. The stadium is best known for its suspended upper bowl with a pillar-supported gap around each bend of the athletics-led oval shape; almost certainly the most well-known architectural symbol of the country (and another protected national landmark in itself), the space between the pillars provides views out across the Olympic Park, and once memorably held a temporary ramp that WSRC rally cars used to literally jump into the stadium at the end of a West Pavola Rally stage.

Knockout matches staged: quarter-final 1, final

Florley Garden City
Florley Field (30,420)

The Eastern Corridor Expansion has numerous purpose-built “new cities” to account for population overspill from the heavily crowded Zube-Bay City sprawl prior to the border change sparked by the Albundanian Collapse. Florley Garden City, located 30km east of Zube and hence on the northern side of the Expansion, was explicitly conceived as an environmentally-friendly one, filled with green spaces and connecting cycle paths that encourage active travel. It retains its distinctive appearance and ethos despite having now grown beyond the 150,000 population threshold of its original master plan, and many of those residents are retirees from the northern peninsula that have contributed to making this a hub of Kytlerian cricket and (rather awkwardly sitting with that eco-ethos) golf.

Indeed, Florley Field’s usually referred to by another name courtesy of a naming rights deal with locally-based FourD, the leading company in the thriving Kytlerian market for golf simulators; their flagship facility is built into the bowels of the venue itself, which is a relatively conventional bowl design but with the first all-over “green roof” of any Kytlerian stadium (several others have one over just one or two stands) and a southern facade almost entirely filled with solar panels.

Knockout matches staged: repechage 3

Carroll Lewiston
The Wonderland (41,054)

Several purpose-built cities were built in the Eastern Corridor Expansion to cater for population overspill, but none were as large as Carroll Lewiston - and with around 425,000 people it is now the country’s fourth most populous city.

It is perhaps still best known as the site of the Kytlerian Wonderland theme park, the largest in West Pavola and known to thrillseekers across Rushmore for the Margaret’s Revenge “gigacoaster” with its 109.3m drop at a beyond-vertical 98.4 degrees. A 23,500-seat stadium was built on the edge of the theme park itself, and named after it; it has since been expanded significantly, first when main tenants AFC Carroll Lewiston became the first and so far only team from the Expansion area to win the Kytlerian league title with their pioneering “Girl Power” mixed-gender team, and latterly for World Cup 98.

Knockout matches staged: quarter-final 4

Roddens
Roddens Stadium (53,500)

The “capital of the north,” Roddens is by far the largest city on a northern peninsula dominated by rolling chalk hills and small market towns where cricket is the summer sport of choice. It likes to call itself “Birthplace of Kytlerian Sport” on the grounds that the first ever Kytlerian international sporting home game was a World Lacrosse Championship pool phase game on the Roddens University Field, and the grass amphitheatre at the Roddens Winter Gardens has been a renowned public viewing fan zone for generations of supporters.

The first of the new wave of Kytlerian stadia following the Giisost Reopening, Roddens Stadium (a naming rights deal with Kytlerian insurer Barstone has been elided for this tournament) is notable for its glowing facade, usually the red of Roddens City but capable of any colour. It also has a retractable roof, but a plan to use this as the basis for making it double up as the national cricket stadium (thus preventing any matches from being rained out) were thwarted due to the way this would have compromised the seating arrangements for soccer use. Instead, the old soccer ground is being renovated and reconfigured into an oval to fill this role, with its former built-in stage at one end becoming the pavilion (and its role as a concert venue transferred to the new stadium). Roddens Stadium was the temporary home of Atletik Težia in their Champions’ Cup title defense in exile from Mytanar political violence - either due to the retractable roof being seen as a security feature against potential drone attacks, the relative isolation of Roddens geographically, or simply Atletik’s existing ties with Roddens City.

Knockout matches staged: repechage 1, semi-final 1

Edencliff
Chalk Field (24,780)

A port town on the northern coast facing onto the notoriously windswept Komodo Channel, Edencliff used to be best known for being a hub of the infamous underground drug trade - including but not limited to RPDs. Drug-taking was common enough in the town that both behavioural issues and high academic performance were immediately linked to high use of the potent RPD Verbosita amongst school-age children, and while those days are mostly gone it's still a bit of a bohemian left-leaning town in the largely conservative north.

What Edencliff is now best known for is AFC Edencliff, the improbable winners of the fourth international-era NSL - one of very few teams ever to wrest the title from the "Big Four" oligopoly of teams from the historic four biggest Kytlerian cities. Their home ground is known for its environmental ethos just as the town is, and is squeezed onto a small plot that has been expanded for all it's worth. The club have refused to countenance a relocation because of the environmental impact of building a new ground (which would also almost certainly need to go in a bad location for non-drivers), but this one remains big enough for some Copa Rushmori duty - and the locals will bring a very warm welcome.

Knockout matches staged: none

Ranford
St Margaret's Park (31,093)

The twin seaside resort of Ranford and Willsbrook is the largest urban area on the northern shoreline of Kytler Bay, the “North Bay Coast” as it is known locally. Historically separate towns that have indirectly merged but largely retained separate identities, Ranford is the larger and more raucous of the two and has long been a tourist hub thanks to its sandy beach and proximity to Zube, whereas Willsbrook to its west is predominantly residential and has a substantial retired population.

The renowned St Margaret’s Church lies straight up a short steep hill from Ranford Pier - the entire conurbation, like most of the North Bay Coast, is essentially hemmed in by the chalk hills of the Northern Downs - and Ranford & Willsbrook’s stadium was essentially built around it, with the church standing in the northeastern corner and an entirely deliberate capacity. With the steep local topography, it’s often joked that the pitch slopes, but it doesn’t; the southern Seaside End is actually built several metres above ground level with a car park underneath, so as you take that steep walk up St Margaret’s Hill (which itself has been an international sporting venue in the past, as the end of the first stage of the Kytlerian Big Weekend cycling stage race) the stadium actually looks a lot bigger than it is.

Knockout matches staged: repechage 4

Alaer
Clituleng Giisost Stadium (56,984)

Alaer - pronounced al-eye-AIR - is the largest city on the southern peninsula and the third largest in the country, with many of its 450,000 inhabitants being descendents of Vephra immigrants from the former Vircais (now Sabine and Caddonia). One of them is Clituleng Giisost. Not only the most famous manager of perennial Kytlerian soccer powerhouse FC Alaer, he is inarguably the most influential man in recent Kytlerian history - the sporting figure who became not just a politician, but the Prime Minister who led the country out of decades of sporting isolation. Upon his resignation as PM following an epileptic seizure on his return from the last World Cup, the government declared the anniversary of the passing of the legislation that ended the isolation as a public holiday, Reopening Day.

The open corner at the heart of this design is partly a reflection of their old ground (which had a glass opening to one corner facing onto Alaer’s city streets) but also symbolic of Giisost’s legacy to the country.

Knockout matches staged: semi-final 2

Santa Mordana
Estadio Santa Mordana Stadium (50,880)

The southwestern port city of Santa Mordana is home to much of the country’s Hispanic population - and a traditional siesta-interrupted workday is widely observed here, not only out of respect for tradition but because late evening working has facilitated business connections with the western Rushmori continent. Their most famous exports of late, however, have come out of the Real Santa Mordana academy - and in particular Vicente Bautista Oleandro (usually known either simply by his first name or as Vincent), the defining player of this Kytlerian generation and now a key player at Q-League giants Mipojoseon.

The Estadio Santa Mordana Stadium - so good they named it twice (a bilingual naming structure that has held through both sponsored and unsponsored incarnations) - was built shortly before the Bay City-Zube Olympics and staged key soccer matches in those Games. Largely unchanged since then aside from general interior renovations, it has a semi-open side behind one goal - allowing for optimal capacity in concert use, a big deal in a city that has long been as significant a hub of Kytlerian popular music as Bay City and Zube - with a three-tier U-shaped main bowl.

Knockout matches staged: quarter-final 3, bronze final

Vengife
Taa'kai Memorial Stadium (24,128)

When settlers from the former Vircais surged onto the Xandrian Sea shoreline of the southern peninsula, they paid all too little respect to those who were there first. The Kytlerian Aboriginal population were largely enslaved - or worse. The former Taa’kai tribe of over 9,000 people were entirely ethnically cleansed in the dash for mining resources (most worryingly uranium) in the area around what is now Vengife, a town built explicitly as an Aboriginal capital as part of the reconciliation process upon the formation of the modern Kytlerian nation.

That explains the name of this stadium, which does indeed feature a large memorial to the Taa’kai outside. There is more positive history for this venue though; it staged the final of a World Lacrosse Championship that the Kytlerian team, inspired by Vephra-Aboriginal local hero Ock Fils, famously won on home soil. It was the first major title ever won by a Kytlerian team, and remains a cultural touchstone even as lacrosse has long since lost its one-time status as a unifying national sport.

Knockout matches staged: none

Kytler Bay City
Carva Dock Arena (53,116)

The colonial-era capital of the predecessor Kytlerian nation, “Bay City” - as it is universally shortened to locally - remains the largest city in the country, with over a million people within the city limits and many more in dormitory towns nearby. An ongoing process of regenerating the city’s central docks - once notorious as a hub of illicit trade - was accelerated by Bay City and Zube hosting the Games of the IX Olympiad, with the Carva Dock being transformed into the foundations of an entirely new district jutting out to Kytler Bay along two strips of land that formed not only the site of the Olympic Village but shelter for a lake that staged rowing, canoeing, and open-water swimming.

The shoreline also featured a temporary beach volleyball arena that staged part of the pioneering split-site opening ceremony; this site was turned into a public beach initially, but now holds a stadium befitting the status of the city and its Bay City United club, with a capacity exactly 10,930 more than double the symbolic 21,093 of the Carva Beach Arena. An opening to two corners provides a clear path of light between the bay and the city that bears its name - and in particular the Margaret Bridge, a 10.93m-wide pedestrian bridge linking the Carva Dock shore with the Bay City Olympic station at the end of the Olympic Maglev line that connects Bay City to central Zube in under 15 minutes and has helped turn the Eastern Corridor into effectively one large polycentric metropolis.

Knockout matches staged: quarter-final 2

Zeiven
Dockside Stadium (23,456)

A modest port city on the Xandrian Sea coast just a few kilometres from the Tikariotian border, Zeiven is a somewhat transient and blue-collar place, and even though it's not in the same part of the country as Zube there is a certain connection that comes with the two sharing their place at the end of the alphabet.

That, and the city stadium - which literally looks like a mini-me of the Zube Olympic Stadium, including the trademark suspended upper tier around each bend. (It's not plagiarism if you're copying your own work, mind; the two were the products of the same architectural practice.) Zeivenians are sometimes considered conservative and sometimes as left-wing, neither of which quite fits; they don't care where you come from, but they do care that you don't take more than you give back. Expect them to give visiting fans a warm welcome as long as they don't cause any trouble.

Knockout matches staged: none

Borlfield
Varnian National Field (45,603)

The most interesting thing about Borlfield's inclusion in this Copa Rushmori is that it happened at all. For Borlfield is the capital of the conservative southern state of Varn, which keeps threatening to declare independence before its secessionists keep bottling it. They think - or say they think - the rest of the country needs them more than the other way round because of their key role in agriculture and especially mining; the majority of Kytlerian power supply is from nuclear and the majority of Kytlerian uranium supply is from Varn. But if they really felt that they'd have pulled off the secession already. This is also the heartland of anti-RPD sentiment and it's a genuine surprise that even the newly moderated Varnian state government was open to matches being staged here.

But it's a more than worthy venue for it, the de facto national stadium of Varn and to an extent of Kytlerian gridiron (a sport that's still mostly played in Varn, although Zube still stages a lot of the World Bowl games of the Green Machine national team). A wide-open bowl with excellent facilities, steep-sided stands help create a fine atmosphere. Unless the extremists within the local population cause trouble.

Football is the by far most popular sport in Tikariot. The Tikariot Premier League is the highest tier of the Tikariotian football pyramid and is one of the most competitive leagues in the multiverse.
With ten World Cup participations, including third place at World Cup 97, Tikariot is part of the rising Rushmorean sub-region of Pavola. After a whole slew of first knock-out-stage exits, Copa Rushmori 42 turned into what the whole nation hopes to be the turning point in their fates when they beat their neighbours and rivals of Græntfjall in the final for their first victory in a big tournament, followed by a win of the most recent edition, Copa Rushmori 47.

After their first appearance at Copa Rushmori 41, Tikariot's ladies have returned for the second Ride of the Valkyries.

Image

The fans of the Snowy Owls, called the Dark Tide, also deserve particular mention. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick-off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a lone drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied by a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Brian McAllister - 53 Image
After having been assistant to now-former coach Stuart Ekstrom, Brian McAllister made the move to Sargossa and enjoyed a lot more success than his former mentor, having two Copa Rushmori victories under his belt. With him, the Snowy Owls continue to utilize their flexible 4-3-3, in which the fullbacks can push forward and the wingers drop back depending on the game situation, adding unpredictability. With this formation, he also won Tikariot's first and personal third Copa Rushmori at CR42 and a second one at CR47, making him one of the winningiest coaches in Rushmore.

Captina Island come into the 48th Copa Rushmori in a position they have never before faced in the history of the National Team.
They've climbed the pecking order within the region on the back of their strong showing during World Cup 98 qualifying, where they missed out on a trip to The Kytler Peninsulae for the Finals by the slimmest of margins—a one goal playoff defeat to Busoga Islands—but will now get their chance to shine in Pavola in their ninth appearance in the tournament; now ranked 14th in Rushmore, the Rosso e Oro search for a return to the offensive form that abandoned the side in Valanora during the Cup of Harmony where it scored only 4 times in four fixtures after banging home 36 during qualifying and the playoff.

STYLE: +1.63
Tactics: 4-3-3 Captina Island makes a leap into the third generation of the National Team by looking to continue down the path of offensively oriented football while still maintaining the commitment to defense that is part of the nation’s sporting DNA.
Nickname: Rosso e Oro (Red & Gold) is the official designation, although there have been rare instances where “Peacocks” has been used in reference to the national animal; 'Peahens' was adapted for the Women's team that played in the Jenna Raven Cup 3 and later in Tea Cup 2.

The Captina Company Sports Ground in Geneva City hosts all Captina Island National Team Fixtures

Captina Island is the southernmost nation in Rushmore, made up of 6.3 million people of which approximately 31% are ethnic Captini--the native Polynesian type peoples who occupied the island prior to discovery--and 42% Italini, descendants of the settlers who arrived after 1922, with about 20% identifying themselves as mixed. The remainder are of other ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.

Captina Island thrives in all aspects of life thanks to the rigorous discipline of “The Plan” (officially known as The Captina Island National Community Operation Master Plan [CINCOMP]) which organizes the priorities, agenda, and the day to day running of proper society within the Armed Republic.

All economic affairs are controlled by the five major privately owned corporations that operate under the provisions of The Plan, holding exclusive license to conduct the nationwide administration of the following areas:

Captina National Organization (CNO)--Defense/Health & Medical/Education
State Economic Corporation (SEC)--Retail/Banking/Transportation/Technology
Industrial & Manufacturing Alliance (IMA)--Production/Raw Materials/Wholesale
The Captina Company (TCC)--Social/Entertainment/Utilities
Brandstadter Corporation Authority (BCA)--Food/Agriculture/Construction

Any remaining areas that would be under the control of a constituted government are handled by The Burkett Group, which is owned in equal shares by the five main corporations and a public ownership scheme funded by a 50 crown (about NS$10) per week deduction from the wages of all citizens. TBG functions as a bureaucratic administrative body, coordinating inter-company affairs in addition to providing the personnel for things like police/fire protection, vital statistics record keeping, public spaces maintenance, and other public services.

TBG operates from the National Capital District of Big Flint which has a population of 84,000, while the other corporations each have their own headquarters city, although they have nationwide operations; within each major city, the 'affiliated' companies have satellite offices to handle the daily business.

THE UNITED REPUBLICS OF YUEZHOU
COPA RUSHMORI 48 ROSTER

月州联合共和国 - 国际足球队

It's a new era for the Dragons, as Elaine Ashdown leaves after nine years in charge of the national team. While Ashdown brought the Dragons to unprecedented heights, achieving third place in the Copa Rushmori and Yuezhou's first-ever quarterfinals berth in the World Cup, the YFA felt Yuezhou were stagnating under her watch and opted to move on. Up next is legendary Mytanar manager Lev Repin, last seen bringing Chromatika within ninety minutes of the World Cup. The first cycle was supposed to be a transitional phase, so a fifth straight WC knockouts appearance (at home, no less) is enough to keep the FA happy. But it could've been so much more - half-Lit™ Jia Luka Siski winning, then stealing, then missing a penalty against Farfadillis that would've completed a historic Octofinal comeback raised so much uproar that the young striker has been dropped entirely.

3-4-1-2 – IN POSSESSION
In possession the 3-5-2 becomes almost a 3-2-5 with the wing-backs pushing high up the pitch to operate in what would almost be traditional winger positions. They are tasked with staying wide to provide the midfielders with options out on the flank, this should also keep the opposition players stretched across the pitch in their defensive shape which would open up spaces in more central areas. The two strikers will rotate in dropping in between the opposition defence and midfield whilst the left-sided central midfielder will look to push into spaces that are vacated by opposition defenders. This is done in this way because the striker who drops deep may drag an opposition defender into a midfield area and leave space for the left-sided central midfielder to run into. The central midfielders will be tasked with recycling possession and trying to pick passes from the middle of the pitch, they will also make late runs into the penalty area to try and pick up any loose balls around the edge of the box. The three central defenders will push high up to the halfway line to squeeze the pitch and keep opposition forwards far away from the goal in case of a loss of possession. Defenders that are comfortable in possession will be allowed freedom to dribble forward if the opposition stand-off them as this could make it easier to progress the ball and could commit opposition defenders which would create space for other players.

3-5-2 – OUT OF POSSESSION
If the ball is lost, both wing-backs will work hard to immediately get back into defensive positions, almost forming a back five with the three central defenders. Both strikers will work hard to press opposition players, willing to give away fouls to prevent the opposition from counter-attacking at speed. Whoever plays as the left-sided central midfielder midfielder may join in with this pressing but against strong opposition they may also drop deep to form a midfield three with the other pair of central midfielders to try and stiffen up the centre of the pitch. Towards the halfway line both the central midfielders will press and try to push the opponent into wider areas with the aim being to either trap them on the sideline or to encourage an aimless pass from the wide position into the middle of the pitch where there are more players. If the opposition manage to counter quickly then the wide central defenders will look to engage any players breaking down the sides of the pitch whilst the man in the middle of the three will shift across to cover them. The central midfielders will also tend to drop very quickly leaving only the attacking midfielder and strikers higher up the pitch.

COACHING STAFF

Manager: Lev REPIN, 69 (MYT)
The YFA moves from one legend of the game to another: Repin, after 177 caps with Mytanija as a fullback during his playing career, has become one of the multiverse's best-known managers. After returning his home country to the World Cup, he then moved to Chromatika, where he took the Anomalies to the World Cup Final. Both incredibly passionate and tactically innovative, Repin will hope to bring a third national team to success as he takes over the Dragons on a two-cycle contract.

Assistant Manager: CHEN Haixuan, 54
The up-and-coming Chen Haixuan earned the job after managing Beian Rovers from lower midtable to the heady heights of...also lower midtable. He's at least a likeable guy who should help communicate Repin's vision and keep things friendly in the dressing room, and will serve as a valuable bridge between the Ashdown and Repin administrations.

Assistant Manager: YUAN Mingrong, 40
A legendary center-back for Ararat and the Yue national team, Yuan now makes his coaching debut with the national team he captained for several cycles. He'll be expected to focus on the defense and the locker-room, although unnamed sources have suggested he's also being groomed to be the next Dragons manager.

Goalkeeping Coach: Ursula GAVARIS, 47 (NPH)
Yue National Team Goalkeeping Coaches have been very in-demand lately, with Lu Qiang headed to the Red League and Ming Xilang off to Quebec. The Dragons will hope that the Zenith veteran who last kept goal for Alliance Barossia won't follow in their footsteps too quickly.

GOALKEEPERS

#01 - GK - ZHAO Deliang (赵德亮) - 35 - Atletik Thessia (MYT)
A former goalkeeping phenom who won a historic Golden Ball (both in terms of position and age) en route to Jiangdong's first league title in years before becoming even more successful abroad. A cool, confident, and physically imposing general on the pitch, albeit a bit traditionalist in playstyle.

substitutes are listed in descending order of likelihood of starting.
#12 - GK - Elaine XU (f) - 30 - Newark Argyle (TMB)
Known for her distribution as well as her heroics outside of the penalty box, Xu's family escaped to Tumbra at the outbreak of the Yue Civil War, but the young, flashy goalkeeper is now back. She was expected to present a long-term challenge to Zhao Deliang's starting spot, but Zhao's ascension into a higher level, combined with the emergence of a number of other young goalkeepers, threw her future with the national team into question despite steady success at the club level. Continued strong play in Tumbra has, for now, kept her as the steady #2 to Zhao.

#79 - GK - Timofei TRISCHUK-HUANG - 27 - Z'ai'ai (CMT)
The son of former South Newlandian NT captain Mikhail Trischuk, Trischuk-Huang is a lanky, athletic shot-stopper with flashes of passing talent. Calling him up early ensured the Newlandians wouldn't get him for the Campionato, but he's now a solid starter abroad and a genuine threat to take one of the spots on the World Cup Proper roster.

CENTER-BACKS

#05 - CB - Esekíel Zeminsson YAO (姚真君) - 28 - Ararat Severyan (MYT)
While he's not quite a BFG, Esekíel Yao is still quite physically imposing, and compensates for average speed with strong defensive instincts, good short-range passing, and the ability to perform under pressure. Does have a prospenity to foul in dangerous areas and overrate his own passing instincts, but one can hope that'll go away in time. Idolized Yuan Mingrong growing up, and was given Yuan's #5 after playing by his side for two seasons at Ararat.

#36 - CB - ZHAO Fan (f) (赵範) - 28 - Mazinaw Vanorian (KSK)
Excellent on-ball skills for a defender, with her passing especially solid, but can be overly rash to tackle. Still, despite her aggression, she's rapidly grown into a key piece for the surprise Tumbran champions, and she's quickly grown into an integral part of the Yue defense.

#27 - CB - JI Wenwei (纪文薇) - 26 - Myana (CMT)
A young but surprisingly polished center-back who anchored Royals' title-winning defense before heading abroad, Ji has well-honed defensive instincts and positioning. There are concerns that he's a high-floor, low-ceiling prospect who lacks the athleticism needed to become a world-class defender, but he's managed to overcome his relative slow-footedness with smart tackling and elite situational awareness.

substitutes are listed in descending order of likelihood of starting.
#44 - RCB/RB - Jason Yuanjunsson REN - 26 - CF Outineau (KSK)
A sturdy, hard-working right-back known for his tactical fouls. Theoretically has the ball skills and tools to be useful on the attack, but hasn't quite put them together. Has taken the number 44, the first Yueren to ever do so on the national team, after his initial request to take #4 was flatly denied by the YFA.

#30 - CB - Paris HUANG (f) - 24 - Century Mertagne (MRT)
A smooth operator across any defensive position, the Mertagnian dual-national finally makes her Dragons debut after an extended pressure campaign from the YFA. Huang's greatest asset is her versatility, both in position and in playstyle, making her the ideal defensive super-sub.

#26 - CB - Aldar Yuansson GUO - 25 - Bay City United (KYP)
Half-Yue but still quite the BFG, with a strong intuitive ability to get in the right place at the right time. Leveraged a strong season with Korsbach to join half-countryman Chen Huikang in the Peninsulae.

FULLBACKS

#02 - LB - Gía Ansdottír LIN (f) (林积仁) - 26 - Tekstil (MYT)
A very athletic, talented young fullback, but one with much stronger defensive than attacking instincts. Her leadership and sense of positioning could make her future club captain material, but she'll need to cut down on fouls and develop a crossing game to reach her full potential. Has been through a lot in her young career, from double-relegation as a teenager in Ko-oren to blatant sexism in the Kytler Peninsulae, but enjoyed a breakout campaign last season in Mytanija.

#13 - RB/RWB - Songwei MILOSEVIC (米松伟) - 27 - Felsenkirchen 1879 (STL)
Born to Mytanar steelworker parents in Beian, Milosevic is industrious off the field but made waves with a high-flying, attack-minded take on the rightback position. While still raw, his incredible endurance and strong ball skills could make him a great modern fullback. Since taking over from the retiring Dong Xiaowang, he's entrenched himself as a premier starting right-back who - despite Kara Mingsdottír Zhang's plaudits - might quietly be the team's best player.

substitutes are listed in descending order of likelihood of starting.
#14 - LB/LWB - HUANG Han - 32 - Istria City FC (BNJ)
An energetic, pacy wingback who thrived as a crosser in Olympic Nangang's three-at-the-back system, before excelling both as a winger and as a fullback in the proving grounds of Kelssek, where he earned consideration for Young Player of the Year with Torbay Thunder. Now in the S-FPL, the only remaining questions around his game are how well it will age.

#38 - RB/RW - LI Xiangyu - 30 - Nangang Royals
A pacy fullback whose penchant for pushing forwards with the ball helped add a new dimension to Royals' title-winning attack. Somewhat weaker defensively, but will present a nice change of pace from the more methodical Yuanjunsson Ren.

#19 - CAM/CM/RB - Maximillian WEN - 26 - Miruan City FC (TKT)
A swiss-army-knife of a player that has quickly endeared himself to his team's fans and Elaine Ashdown alike. Wen's biggest strengths are his versatility and tenacity. But he's far from a high-motor, low-skill player, having shown advanced playmaking talents for his age in Tikariot.

HOLDING MIDFIELDERS

#29 - CDM/CM - ZHAXI Jianzan (f) (扎喜坚赞) - 31 - Serrapince (TMB)
A hard-nosed defensive midfielder who will do anything on the field to win - and who has the athletic ability and field vision, if not a full suite of on-ball tools yet, to make it happen. Not related to Zhaxi Nanlei.

#17 - CM - DONG Yichun (f) (董依纯) - 26 - Kirkenes (KSK)
A metronomic presence in midfield despite her young age, with some flashes of creativity. Has quietly become one of the best Yue midfielders in the world after a surprisingly good season with Kirkenes, with an inability to be pressed that the Dragons sorely need from their midfield options. Now makes her breakthrough to the starting lineup under Repin.

substitutes are listed in descending order of likelihood of starting.
#28 - CM - GUAN Teying - 27 - Millsburgh Revolutionaries (TMB)
A smooth, metronomic presence in the center of the pitch, Guan's next developmental step will be to hone his defensive instincts - something he's already made great strides at in Nephara before heading to Millsburgh.

#80 - CM - Brynjólfur Zhenyasson ZHANG - 28 - Crossroads (CMT)
Born and raised in Græntfjall, but the son of Yuezhou NT midfielder Zhang Zhenya, it was anyone's guess who Zhang was going to declare for. Just like Kara Mingsdottír Zhang (no relation), though, he opted for the side with a paucity of talented young midfielders. After returning to Yuezhou at his father's urging and surprising everyone by becoming the linchpin of Royals' attack at a young age, he headed to Chromatika to further prove himself. A dynamic 8/10 hybrid who moves quickly with and without the ball, and who offers relentless energy on the defensive end. Dropped out of the NT midway through World Cup 96 due to the stress of the situation in Græntfjall, but seems to be back to full strength - and now has a Red League title under his wing as well.

ATTACKING MIDFIELDERS

#08 - CM/CAM - Kara Mingsdottír ZHANG (f) (张白兰) - 31 - Liria Prizren (MYT)
The YFA spent a lot of time and effort convincing Karolíná Mingsdottír to declare for Yuezhou's national team instead of Græntfjall's, but it's become apparent that the young midfielder was worth the trouble. A well-rounded midfield prospect whose speed and technique makes her devastating on the counterattack, and who has a propensity for scoring wondergoals. Has seriously come into her own at Liria, becoming one of the world's premier midfielders.

substitutes are listed in descending order of likelihood of starting.
#10 - CAM/SS - YAO Liwei - 26 - TK Korp Mynda (BNJ)
An excellent runner on counterattacks and a dynamic and willing passer, somewhat in the Tao Beiliang mold. Similarly to Tao, doesn't do much on defense, and was moved progressively upfield by his coaches after starting his career as a #8.

STRIKERS

#09 - SS/LW - ZHU Tianming (朱天明) - 31 - Beian Bats
A versatile attacker most at home in a false-nine role, Zhu's physicality lets him hold up the ball before using his surprisingly good passing chops to distribute to teammates. He's not blazing fast, but he's quick and shifty enough to also play an inside-forward role on the wings, popping up when you least expect it to latch onto a cross or head home from close range.

#21 - ST - Leona TSANG (f) (曾巧珠) - 26 - Myana (CMT)
GS+'s best young player in the world is now a Dragon, accepting Elaine Ashdown's callup in controversial fashion two caps short of being tied to the Cormorants. Her speed, dynamic off-ball runs, and ability to score from anywhere make her difficult to pin down, especially with Kara Mingsdottír Zhang feeding her a steady diet of through-balls for the foreseeable future - as long as she can stay on the field.

substitutes are listed in descending order of likelihood of starting.
#11 - ST/RW - ZHENG Hong (f) - 30 - West Couno United (TMB)
A hardworking and athletic attacker, Zheng still lacks a bit of finesse and can look quite awkward at times. Still, she always seems to get the ball where she wants it to be, and she's actually quite the composed finisher if you look at the xG.

#31 - RW/CAM - Liljan Álfarsdottír ZHOU (f) - 25 - Kirkenes (KSK)
Not especially fast, but agile and skilled: Zhou can be a bit predictable at times, loving to cut inside, but has all the ability you'd want in a modern winger. Her surprisingly good playmaking has earned her a second look as a rotational #10 in Repin's system, in addition to a potential starter if the Mytanar opts to change formation.

#33 - ST - Sienna LI (f) - 28 - Rolalas FC (VAL)
A Nepharan dual national, Li grew up idolizing Liu Huiying and definitely adopted some of the ex-Corvistone star's game to her own. Stronger, less agile, and more of a traditional nine than Liu, but still likes to drop deep and distribute when the opportunity presents itself.

GK: Maiken Karlstad, age 24, Tanrısal (F)

Thor has brought in accountability to the team and that takes the shape in taking players who are in form rather than just being a big name playing at a big club. That leaves Maja Topić surprisingly grabbing the number one shirt, though it is not without merit as her reflexes helped take Brantisvogan up to the top of the table and conceding less than a goal a game on average. She's developed into a real special talent, now it is her time to prove that she can do it with the national team as well as she does it at the club level. Lukáš Hanzelka earns his way back into the good graces of Thor after moving to the Rangers and being a big piece of their surprising domestic double two seasons ago, but being two years Maja's senior and Thor looking to the future only brings him back as second choice. With the fall off of previously favored keepers, that allows Maiken Karlstad to enter into the mix, being a relatively decent keeper in an otherwise poor season for Tani by their own standards. There was a lot of hype she might be the nation's number one someday and if she continues to progress, she just might with the age of those in front of her.

With lots of movement in the past few transfer windows as well as Sardin's shock relegation, there has also been a shuffle in the backline. Slava Jakšić wins the duel on the left side with a better showing during the season with Megabrantid and concerns that Kati Máté has been slowing down over the last season. Both are good fullbacks who are more offensive minded. After a resurgent season with the Spartans, being a real veteran force for their backline, Ivančić has earned his starting spot back and should look to be that leader in the back the team needs. The centerback selection is a diverse group but Szôts leadership as well as the stunning campaign for Nazari see that be the starting pair. Zétény Szatmári's move to Kelssek and Burnaby could be a huge move as the player goes from Cassadaigua to the big leagues, where if they flourish they could be starting come the next cycle, while a nice season for Hertzog after leaving Audioslavia sees the young centerback get a call up in what many will hope will be a blossoming international career for the potential superstar in the back for the team.

While the midfield has ever been the core of the Wanderers, it is under some strain like much of the team with the current shallow national pool. That is evident by a pair of players called up for the right side who have not seen the national team before but with Galatica having had a fairly good season, Benedek gets to show why maybe he should have been given a chance before. On the left is another one of those near nailed on spots regardless of tactic or manager, as Asztrik Biró has been a real revelation and their brilliance at having broken into the Mâ Âlâmëómë first team as a teenager has definitely see them hit their full potential into a superstar now in their prime a near decade later. Dangerous as both a supplier as well as cutting in and finishing off attacking movements himself, he will be a real problem for any opposing players set to try to mark him. In the middle Tani's Schmid gets the call and having come up in their system he should be well accustomed to a play maker role in a more offensive system, while Moore Lafontaine retirement offers Borsala Takácz a chance to strut her stuff in the destroyer role. Off the bench there is Gombos who continues to be quite the talent in CAP's system and and play a variety of roles if needed, while Buday looks to be a bit of a risk as no one is quite sure how good he is or what his best position might be.

Strikers

AMLC/ST: Bogdan Laszlo, age 27, Algolia Image
ST: Járngrímur Image, age 28, CA Paulinthal
ST: Orkény Szegedi, age 28, Galatica
ST: Ubaldina Mondragón Sepúlveda, age 27, Santos Luega (F)

It is a tournament that sees a bit of shake up at the front after some disappointment in either the domestic scene, the international scene, or a bit of both has Thor rethinking who he wants to be the top of the spear for the side. Laszlo however looks to be the confirmed preferred starter for the time being, having been magnificent for club and country for some time now and will likely be the focal point of the Wanderers' attack going forward. Paired with him for the Copa shall be Járngrímur, as the Graintfjall born striker has been utterly prolific in the SuperLiga since his arrival and Thor is hoping that can translate to the national team. That partnership does mean this will be the first time ever that there will not be a Pasargan born player at the starting striker role, with Laszlo famously being born in Audioslavia, a talking point among many circles in the dual islands. Behind them will be Szegedi of Galatica after a second place showing in the golden boot this past season for Galatica shows the former youth international has finally come into his own and is ready to contribute, while Sepúlveda is there if the team needs a bit of pace or finesse off the bench.

Tactics

Bringing back the four four two, even if the midfield roles were shaken up a little has brought the Wanderers back into a sense of familiarity and comfort that has allowed the team to progress forward towards turning the team back around to contenders. The more defensive midfielder will be responsible for screening the backline and providing passing options for both the attack and defense. Playmaking duties will fall squarely on the number eight who will have two striking options playing off the shoulders of the backline or attacking wingers to build an attack with. The wingers are not expected to be experts in marking and tackling but they are expected to track back and provide support in at least terms of bodies and numbers, which means they are going to be endurance based players with the amount of running they are going to do. The same will be true of the fullbacks, who will need to be competent enough on the ball to make overlapping and underlapping runs in the attacking third when the team has prolonged bouts of possession.

Captain: Mislav Ivančić
Corner Taker: Asztrik Biró
Set Pieces: Zágon Schmid
Penalties: Járngrímur

Copa Rushmori 47 in the Kytler Peninsulae is just around the corner and Tikariot enters the tournament as title holders and current number one of the Rushmori rankings, so to say that the pressure is on the team is an understatement. And right into this high-pressure situation, coach Brian McAllister, with four Copa Rushmori wins under his belt, revives a campaign from several years ago, the Ride of the Valkyries, where he is assembling the best and most promising of the Tikariot Premier League's ladies to make an impression.

Image

While some have decried this as a big gamble, it also is a unique opportunity for the women to show that they can compete with the best of them out there. With 14 yet uncapped players in the roster, Tikariot is determined to show the real depth of its talent pool, so let's kick things off with an introduction to the team.

In goal we have Magadelena von Yxkull, who just joined her youth team Fort Viljan Northern FC from Viathyn Park AFC, and she is rightfully seen as the heir to the throne once Vincent Litman hangs up his gloves. She is a an absolute no-nonsense keeper, composed, with incredible reflexes, making her seem like a knight guarding a fortress than a goal.

The defensive line begins with Baraldhur AFC left back Catherine Sparrelind, who is the heir apparent of Catherine Northrup, both for team and country. She is a quick whirlwind with lightning-quick decisions that sometimes even manage to surprise her own teammates. She can both eliminate opponents with a well-timed slide tackle and go for blazing overlapping runs.

In the centre we have the two Nepharan dual nationals Tanis Hemingway and Callia Canterbury, who form a formidable duo. Hemingway has this defensive presence that makes forwards consider a career change, with spectacular tackles, aerial dominance and, if needed, a well-timed shoulder check.

Canterbury is the quiet counterpart, elegant, cerebral, with outstanding positioning. She is stylish on the ball and can be ruthless off it. She is the type of defender forward won't even know is there until it is way too late.

On the right side, Oriannor's Cassiopeia Hawthorne is the youngest member of the squat at only 17, but is considered one of Tikariot's biggest talents. She has energy without end, great positioning and will run through a brick wall if the team needs her to.

On to midfield, Vilhelmina Gyldenstrand is (wo)manning the left side and once she has the ball, you need to surgically remove it from her. Technically gifted, she is hard to dispossess, and when opponents giev her a chance to cut inside, she can unleash wicked, curving shots that will challenge any goalkeeper.

Lauren Carpenter is the lady connecting defence and offence, calm under pressure, with excellent, elegant passes and while she can unpack a letal shot, she prefers to distribute the balls.

Moved from the centre to the right side of midfield, Andarra Belfrage, also known as The Silver Phantom, is the prodigy of Tikariotian football, poised, elegant, with grim determination and a fluidity in her play that makes you feel you are watching a piece of art than a football player.

On the left wing, we find a third Nepharan dual national in Cassandra Cresswell, who plays a dual role between artist and assassin. She can carve through a defence with effortless skill but also unleash a wicked shot, if needed.

Another one of Tikariot's biggest hopes is centre forward Geneviève de Verronneault, who was just promoted to the TPL with the Veriasod Wolves and has been instrumental in their return to the top league. She is smooth on the ball and strong off it, with outstanding positioning and an instinct to be at the right place at the right time and always just one flick away from doing something outrageous.

Elia Molyneux is the most experienced player in the squad and she is fast, clinical and fearless. Known for her trademark purple hair, Molyneux can make decisions in the blink of an eye that will take a defender by complete surprise and then the keeper better be saying their prayers.

The two reserve keepers both are feared by opponents and commentators alike. Mimosa Gyda Holgeirsdóttir is a classic Jekyll and Hyde keeper, with absurd saves and equally absurd risks, while Petrun Perla Jóannsdóttir is one of the most reckless keepers you will find. She will go where no keeper should reasonably go but if it means keeping the ball out, she will risk a couple of bruises.

The left back up Esca Griffiths is fast and aggressive and definitely has no interest in exchanging phone numbers with opposing wingers. One of the best up and coming 1v1 defenders in the league.

Solfrid Frøya Fiskerstrand-Kyvåg is a commanding presence in central defence, tall, strong and incredibly efficient. When this flame-haired firecracker goes in, usually the ball and the attacker stop moving. Her partner in crime is the equally word salad-laden Anna-Sofia Nørregaard-Hjelmborg, who, despite her young age, is already marked as a future veteran. She is always in the right place and impossible to fluster or rattle.

Speaking of word salad, Madeleine-Sophia de la Rochefoucauld-Verdier is the ultimate nightmare for any kit representative to fit her name onto the jersey. She is elegant, composed and will dribble herself out of pressure instead of hoofing the ball away, just because she can.

Moving on to midfield, Vna-Chuhul's Sophia Cranagh is short but is not lacking in creativity. She's another one of those players who are unpredictable, for both opponents and teammates, which sometimes can make her own team sign in exasperation.

Another one of the promising young snowy owlets is Léonie-Alexandra Dufour-Vandenberghe, who is always in motion and has a wicked pass-and-move game. However, she is not afraid of getting her hands dirty if it means to dispossess the opponent.

On the right side, Taaina Pyhäranta is a sharp brainiac who will analyze the game and then push into gaps nobody even knew existed before she exploited them. Great technique to go with that.

Finally, in the front third we have Wiołeta Motyka, who is fast, fearless and can turn defenders inside out with her dribbling. She is complemented by centre forward Magdalena Strandberg, who has a lethal striker instinct, to either tear holes or push into them herself. If she gets the ball in the box, something is about to happen.

The last puzzle piece is Anaig-Gwenhwyfar Le Gréac'h-Caouaissin and her footwork is as complicated as her name. She is unpredictable, relentless and is ready to play knots into her opponents' legs.

In a competition that does not know easy groups, the Snowy Owls have been drawn into the same group with 8th-ranked Darmen, 13th-ranked Eastfield Lodge, who Tikariot don't seen to be able to escape anywhere these days, 24th-ranked Pridnestrovia, 26th-ranked Kordavia and unranked Ingont.

Their first game against Ingont will is up first and it is one of those games where anything but a win will be considered a severe disappointment.

The Republic of Bohr National Football Team, 2002

Copa Rushmori XLVIII

Team Colors: Maroon and White (White and Maroon, if we’re feeling fancy)
Style Mod: -2

Head Coach:
Ellis Leach, a 44-year-old who used to look significantly younger but has aged in dog years since taking the Bohr job, first came to prominence as the defensive coach and set-piece coordinator for the BCF-winning 1997 Motan FC squad; a couple seasons later, when Motan legend Quinn Jensen called it a career, Leach took charge. Motan has declined significantly since its heyday, and rumors have abounded since the announcement that Leach was chosen more as a compromise candidate than for any of his own football acumen; however, he has shown an ability to steal points from more talented teams, both domestically and in the World Cup Qualifiers. An extremely rough Cup of Harmony run has made Bohrian fans and decision-makers antsy about finding a new, ideally-foreign manager; Leach himself has shrunk from the spotlight amid the inevitable controversies that come with international football, and it seems like a matter of time before he fully loses the locker room. Then again, winning solves most problems.

Leach primarily uses a fairly boilerplate 4-2-3-1, with a specific focus on out-of-possession structure and marking schemes that are certainly too complex to go in-depth on here; he is a devout believer in using as many subs as possible, and so will likely be shuffling around the formation a bit as the group stage goes on.

See above for which players should be doing which things; you don't have to 100% stick to that, but it's a solid guideline.
Cards and injuries are fine as long as they're not overly severe, as far as godmods go I'd prefer "has happened at least a couple times in a real football game before"
If you think something is going to be weird, or just have a RP idea that you want to run by me, feel free to TG/DM me; I'm probably most available on Discord as gold_en, but will try to respond to NS stuff also.
Thanks!

Tactics:
Manager Geraldo Rys and his assistants Mara Tapi and Toms Elwin have decided to implement a slightly aggressive 3-5-2 formation during their tenure as Zenic's national team staff. This formation is intended to maximize the wingbacks' strengths without neutralizing the rest of the team's impact. The young wingbacks' stamina allows them to go forward and cautiously assist in attack to create goal-scoring chances while still being able to get back and provide numbers to stop opposition scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the Center-backs, Central Midfielders and Forwards create a solid pillar through the heart of the pitch that is intended to both be an alternative route to goal scoring and a multi layered obstruction to the opponents.

The draw for the 48th Copa Rushmori threw up a fixture list of familiar faces for The Captina Company National Team as they will attempt to advance from the group stage for the second straight time.

Sargossa are the highest ranked side in Group C and have the longest history with the Rosso e Oro, as the matchday 3 contest will be the fifth all-time between the nations and the third in the regional championship; Captina's sole victory came in World Cup 96 qualifying, a 1-0 away result that was reversed on the final matchday of the tournament. Previously the sides met in CR 44 where the Corsairs prevailed 3-0 and most recently they drew 1-1 in the last edition of this competition in Pasarga.

Igratia were group opponents in World Cup 98 qualifying, as Captina took four of six points on offer while Qusmo were defeated 2-1 in CR45 and Olastor were on the losing end in CR 44 in the fixture just prior to the above mentioned loss to Sargossa, which coincidentally will be the same order they will be played in Pavola. Zenic will be the only first time opponent, the three times World Cup qualifiers currently ranked 7th in Rushmore.

Manager Jonas Youngblood wants to see a return to the form and style displayed by his side throughout qualification from the outset in The Kytler Peninsulae and will field what was his best starting XI during that time against Qusmo on matchday 1.

Lineup vs Qusmo MD 1:
Rizzolini; Ellington, Santangelo, Esposito, Zaccardo; Lilywhite, Morningstar, DiCanio; Wedgewood, Donati, Hammersmith

For this second straight home tournament, Andrew Patterson has named a surprisingly different squad from the one that were stunned in the hexadecifinals of World Cup 98 by Baker Park, with plenty of youngsters getting into the mix - especially from NSL surprise packages Aardswood United, whose manager has become the favourite to be Patterson's successor in the NT job. Though Danny Markusson is back after missing the World Cup, Edencliff attackers Agnes Oddkellsdóttir and Raven Lomu are missing, while veterans Wecoisus Gackbang and Dings Mocks have retired from international soccer. All of which has allowed for multiple Aardvark breakouts to join the squad, with Victor Bellinger - not even in the WC98 squad - seen as the likeliest starter given that the Ranford & Willsbrook duo of Oliver Vandome and Teun van Os have been off form to the point of both missing this squad. Although there's unexpected challenges at the back coming from Borlfield Town defender Wayne Fernham - part of a back four that practically kept the Miners up by themselves the last two seasons - and naturalised Verdean chonkster Yrko, the second "RSP" (Retroactively Stateless Player) to make a Kytlerian squad after Borgþór Daðason.

Either way, this team will be driven by their endurance, patience in possession, and a man who now holds a Q-League winners' medal in Vicente (aka Vincent), the creative hub of this team since... honestly, since its reincarnation. When he was just a teenager. Now he's a proven midfield star for club and country, dictating play from the left half-space and always a threat to either cut inside and shoot or drop a dime with either foot.

The Wanderers come into this Copa Rushmori in a bit of a state of flux, which was coming but no one was quite prepared for it to be this moment. However the bit of whiplash that the team felt after the end of the World Cup Finals, being perfect through the group stage only to be eliminated right away in the knockout fixture where they were favorites, did put the team into a bit of a tizzy. They had entered into that group stage thinking that the goal was to finish third and be able to earn their way into the knockouts via being one of the best third placed sides and advancing that way. Yet when they managed to win all three fixtures and got what was seen as a reasonably favorable draw to advance a round or two into the knockout stages, there started to be some belief and even expectations that were brought back into the team after a near decade of poor performances. It was not to be though as if the momentum of the last Copa and the very unexpected third placed finish in the home tournament had finally been exhausted and the team was knocked in that first knockout round, leaving fans back home not sure quite how they felt about the tournament as a whole.

Thor though is not one to waste an opportunity to learn and grow and in this case, decided that rather than waiting for the upcoming qualification campaign to start and address the gnawing issue of the shallow national team pool, has decided to change up the team for the regional tournament ahead of the campaign starting once more in the fall. Some of the changes have been spurred on by form with the national team or club side and some also because a player has simply aged out of the pool and Thor is looking to the future and trying to ensure the team is well prepared for the challenges ahead. All of the Sardin United players were dropped after they failed to impress in the SuperLiga 2 after last season's surprise relegation. That has allowed players like Maiken Karlstad and Thorsten Hertzog to be allowed to get called up to the team, the latter looking to have quite a bit of promise and has seemingly done quite well after their move to Siovanija and Tuesland last summer. However there are a few players who have been held over for their experience, with left back Kati Máté, who will likely be using the tournament to shop herself out after being listed for transfer by her club.

The side however is not without a bit of controversy and that comes squarely at the tip of the spear with the two starting strikers that Thor has decided to choose, after Nawar Taqwaa Bazzi decided to retire from the international game after the World Cup had come to an end. That is because for the first time in the history of the Wanderers, there will not be a player starting at the striker role who was born in the dual islands, as Audioslav born Bogdan Laszlo and naturalized Graintfjaller Járngrímur are projected to be the starting pair of strikers. On talent it is hard to argue against either, with Laszlo having torn up the Audioslav league with Shamrock Cathair before moving on to Squornshelous when the money disappeared in his homeland. Meanwhile Járngrímur has been among the top goalscorers in the SuperLiga for the last several seasons and was granted a transfer of eligibility after Graintfjall fell into chaos, giving Pasarga and extremely lethal striker to add to their already quite talented group of strikers, even if some of them have now hung up their boots like Bazzi have. While there is some consternation among the traditionalists about the two starting, if they grab goals and wins, it likely wont matter as winning solves a lot of issues.

To win the Wanderers are going to have to navigate a moderately difficult group, which gets more difficult than it likely ought to be once you consider that the side will be going up against the hosts of the competition, The Kytler Peninsulae. Fortunately for the Wanderers, they will be the last game of the five game group stage that they are set to take part in and staying on fortunate road, the team will start off against unranked Bohr. While Bohr has shown quite a bit of upside and looks to eventually help bolster the depth of talent of the region, right now they are a fresh faced squad who happen to be going into a group of talented team and right away get to take on the Wanderers who are quite hungry to keep building off the success of the last Copa and the World Cup Finals. Not just in this game but for the entire group the team will have to be looking at the two at the top to be on their best as they are the two best players on the roster on skill alone and you want your best players to be leading the way with effort. There is also Asztrik Biró, who is likely in their last tournament as a starter but they are a terror on the left and should be able to feed scoring opportunities aplenty for the two lethal strikers to get the goals to see the team get wins and advance out of this slightly tricky group, starting with Bohr on the morrow.

Tactics
Formation: 4-3-3
Style Mod: +2.5
In attack, Darmen will employ one of two tactics: the first involves the team playing down the flanks while the second is a possession oriented short-range passing style that closely resembles tiki-taka. The later tactic is normally only employed against weaker opponents or when Darmen has a multi-goal lead and involves connecting many passes together to slowly advance the ball towards the opponents 18-yard box. It is not uncommon for 30+ passes to be completed in the sequence, especially against weaker opponents.

Darmen's primary tactic however is a heavy emphasis on flank play, with the wide midfielders (also referred to as flankers in Darmen) being the linchpin of Darmen's attack. Upon gaining possession, Darmen will look to distribute the ball to one of the two wide midfielders as quickly as possible. After receiving the ball, the wide midfielders will look to advance the ball as far down the flanks as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the forwards and the central midfielders will crash the box, hoping to be on the receiving end of the wide midfielder's cross. The wide midfielder (or sometimes even the fullback) on the opposite flank will linger behind waiting to collect the cross should it overshoot the box. While scoring via headers is the primary goal, a player may also look to score by volleying or half-volleying the ball if they're in open space. Should the first attempt at goal not be collected by the goalkeeper, Darmenis are more than willing to take advantage of the ensuing chaos in the box and poach a goal as well. If the wide midfielder's path forward down the flank is blocked, they are not averse to cutting inside and taking a shot on goal themselves.

Defensively, the defenders have one job... to defend. They rarely venture out of their own half, but if they do it will only be one of the fullbacks (see above). Darmen will employ zonal marking when facing the counter-attack and man marking in all other situations.

Team Roles
Captain: James January
Vice-Captain: Markus Thomasson
Left Corner: Amias Shelby
Right Corner: Kara Falkner
Penalties: James January
Free-kicks: Dwayne Loritz

Team Personality
The Darmeni team will never argue with the referee. Indeed, if anything needs to be brought to the attention of the referee it will be done by either the Captain or Vice-Captain in a respectful manner (or to the fourth-official by the Manager). With regards to foul/dirty play, the Darmeni team will not provoke, or retaliate against any opposition player. Darmeni's expect each team to keep to itself and deal with its own trouble makers; any opposition player who attempts to prevent a conflict by pushing or pulling a Darmeni away from the scene will be promptly told off, as that is the duty of the Darmeni Captain.

Nonetheless, Darmen will play in a relatively aggressive manner. Tackles will be conducted in a way which ensures the opponent ends up on the ground, but causing injury will be avoided as much as possible. On set pieces, Darmenis will stand their ground and will not be easily pushed around. However, they will not engage in hugging. In fact, if any opposing player tries to push past them, it is not uncommon for the Darmeni player to feign resistance before simply stepping aside and watching as the opposing player stumbles past on their way to ground. This occasionally backfires however, as the referee may mistake the incidence as having been a foul in the box.

"Do you think they'll be okay?"

FZF President Killian raised his head from the paperwork he was reviewing to look up at one of his employees. "Who are we referring to?" The employee adjusted some of the paperwork in their hand, nervous to proceed. "The Survivors." Killian sighed and placed his pen down gently. "I think so. But nothing is given in life."

Killian was aware of what the employee was referring to now. The media has been hounding on Zys and his staff for a while now, ever since the 98th World Cup. Killian acknowledged that it was, technically speaking, the worst performance for the Survivors since World Cup 73, when they also were eliminated in the group stage. He would know, since he was the manager at the time. But there are only so many competitions in the world and only so few teams can come away with a championship each cycle. It's unreasonable to expect a title every single time. But that type of talk doesn't draw clicks and views so almost all of the media recently was either suggesting or straight up calling for a new manager.

"As long as Zys and the staff can keep the squad at a competitive level, they'll have a spot on the Survivors. If they prove they can't keep that up, then we'll consider it. Until then, no need to worry," Killian said, comforting the young employee. "Of course. Thank you for that," they said as they took their documents they were waiting on and left Killian's office. "God damn it," he muttered to himself as he rubbed his eyes in frustration.

Was it frustrating to not come close to another championship on the senior level? Of course. He knew he wasn't wrong to stick with Zys for this long but he knew it would be easier with another title sooner rather than later. Their next best opportunity was the upcoming 48th Copa Rushmori in The Kytler Peninsulae. This go-around, they had been placed in Group C alongside Olaster, Igratia, Qusmo, Captina Island, and Sargossa. That also happened to be the order in which Zenic would face their groupmates, getting to face them from lowest to highest according to the Rushmori regional rankings. Going by total rank, it wasn't necessarily the toughest group but it was the only group without an unranked participant.

And it didn't help that there was a new format being tested for this edition. The group winners were guaranteed spots into the Quarterfinals of the knockout rounds. The runner ups and third place finishers would need to do battle amongst themselves to determine who face them, giving the group winners an unofficial bye round. Thus every group stage game counted if Zys and the Survivors wanted the best chance to bring home a second Copa Rushmori.

Up first: Olastor. A poor performance in the last edition will certainly be used as motivation to achieve a better finish this time around. Zys will need to be on his A game to make sure Zenic doesn't fall victim.

Killian could only hope for the best and see what happens.

Well, a win is a win at the end of the day.

It took Zenic 63 minutes to score but Olastor failed to score at all, leaving the Survivors with a 1-0 victory to open their campaign in the 48th Copa Rushmori. The FZF had flown the squad out to Alaer for the Olaster match as it was scheduled to take place at Clituleng Giisost Stadium. For the first half, both squads got their chances in but Zenic came closer with a few shots that came off the fingertips of the Olastor goalkeeper. Saul Mosley was challenged twice but ultimately the match was destined to finish 0-0 in after 45 minutes plus change.

Coming out of the tunnels, Zenic and Olaster came out with intention to score. Alas for Olaster, 18 minutes was all it would take to break the deadlock and it would be off the foot of one Pilypas Aldhard. In a daring maneuver, Zys substituted both Gentile and Maruscak for Sumida and Aldhard respectively after 60 minutes to see if anything would change. Fortunately, the gamble paid off as Aldhard was on the receiving end of a Dettmann cross and slotted it through the goalkeeper's legs. The rest of the match wasn't too strange: roughly half an hour of Olastor attempting to find an equalizer and Zenic defending their lead while attempting to score the dagger in the heart but coming up just short. As the whistle blew, Zys and his staff shook hands with their Olastor counterparts, quickly celebrated with their players, and began preparations to head over to Vengife, There was no time to waste as the sooner they set up camp, the more preparation they could do for their second match of the tournament.

They would later learn that that their next opponent, Igratia, had pulled off an impressive upset and defeated the 4th placed team in the Rushmori rankings, Sargossa, in a similar fashion to Zenic's victory over Olastor. As a reward for their success, both teams were statistically tied for second place after several tiebreakers and slated just below group leader Captina Island. Now, at Taa'kai Memorial Stadium, the Igratians and Zenicians have the opportunity to breakaway and get closer to taking the lead in Group C. Igratia comes into their second Copa with a chip on their shoulder now removed: they had finished 0-2-2 in their first trip having drawn with Frjálshöfn and Kirungabi while losing by one goal to both Yuezhou and Valladares. Should Igratia continue this improvement, they will surely join the ranks of Copa Rushmori winners sooner rather than later.

For now though, Zenic aimed to keep them down for just a little longer.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia is a lot of things, but one thing it is not is tolerant of failure. Basil Santa Cruz was brought in to be the manager of the Pridnestrovian national football team in order to win the Copa Rushmori, and while he came very close in his first two attempts, everything else after that has been nothing but failure. The Pridnestrovian Football Union had had enough of this tomfoolery and decided to sack Santa Cruz and replace him with a manager who actually follows the classic Pridnestrovian footballing ethos of "defense wins."

Copa Rushmori XLVIII

Sargossa - 'The Corsairs'

Head Coach

José Carlos Martínez

Some coaches meld their tactics around the players they have available to them. Some meld the players they have available around their tactics. Martínez tends to do a bit of both, creating a flexible, almost chimeric, tactical blueprint. But one that worked well in Torreón, where earned plenty of plaudits as his Estrella consistently punched above their weight and earned a place in the global cup competitions to boot.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Luciano Velázquez
Defensive Coach: Luis Sánchez
Attacking Coach: Hugo Galán
Set Pieces Coach: Manuel Semprún
Goalkeeping Coach: Dario Almirón
Fitness Coach: Alberto Ocampo
Team Doctor: Dr Carla Segura

Talent

GK: 1. Antonio Reyes (30) – Sportivo Soluca
GK: 13. Imanol Sánchez (35) – Alianza Jucaro
GK: 25. Hilario Barreda (31) – Sportivo Cordova

Antonio Reyes has established himself as the nation’s number one after a second successive domestic title and a strong showing in the Copa Rushmori. Imanol Sánchez remains an experienced backup, while Hilario Barreda receives a first international call-up after being plucked from the El Nacional bench to have a starring role in Cordova.

DR: 2. Adrian Soriano (34) – Ciudad Soluca
DC: 5. Alan Fernández (27) – Sportivo Soluca
DC: 6. Lautaro Monzón (23) – Alianza Jucaro
DL: 3. Antonio Benito (31) – Sportivo Soluca
DRC: 12. Jorge Romero (33) – Sportivo Soluca
DC: 14. Asier Recio (26) – Estrella Torreón
DLC: 19. Iván Alegre (30) – Estrella Torreón
DC: 21: Joaquín Sanz (31) – El Nacional

The champions look set to be well represented with academy graduate turned defensive stalwart Alan Fernández and late bloomer Jorge Romero, plucked from Dunas Del Sol a year ago, both making their first appearances in the national side. Antonio Benito has made the left sided berth his own, while Joaquín Sanz and new boy Asier Recio look set to battle it out for a position in the centre. Iván Alegre returns to the national team after a long absence.

DMC: 4. Alberto Ribas (31) – Sportivo Soluca
AMRLC: 7. Moisés Garrido (32) – Ciudad Soluca
MC: 8. Enrique González (37) – Ciudad Soluca
AMLC: 11. Dani Azuaga (34) – Dínamo Maturín
AMR: 15. Jhon Rivas (30) – Estrella Torreón
MC: 16. Jandro Paz (22) – Alianza Jucaro
DMC: 18. Fernando Soler (21) – Estrella Torreón
MC: 22. Elías Pozo (28) – Sportivo Soluca
AMLC: 24. Martín de la Cavallería (31) – Dínamo Maturín

The new coach is faced with a good problem to have, with a trove of riches in the centre of the park. Jandro Paz is a talented addition to a group that already includes the tireless Juan Dani Azuaga, the battling Alberto Ribas and the mercurial Elías Pozo. The veteran Enrique González remains in the mix too. Jhon Rivas is another new name in the frame, after a highly impressive season for Martínez at Estrella.

FC: 9. Adrian Rodríguez (25) – Sportivo Soluca
FRLC: 10. Pablo Alarcón (35) – El Nacional
FC: 17. Lucas Recoba (32) – El Nacional
FLC: 20. Jesús Blaya (31) – Sportivo Soluca
FC: 23. Rubén López (30) – Estrella Torreón

There is a new sharpshooter in town. To say Adrian Rodríguez’s debut Liga-S was spectacular still wouldn’t entirely do it justice. Thirty-seven starts yielded thirty-seven goals as he fired Sportivo to the title. Making his mere thirty-one strikes last season in a success title defence almost underwhelming. Strong, quick, agile, fearless, he really is the total package. Nine goals behind him in the scorer’s charts sat Pablo Alarcón, whose teammate Lucas Recoba may chaff at no longer being the top dog. The big question is whether the new coach will deploy a front three, which may see Jesús Blaya, who had another excellent domestic season alongside Rodríguez, get a starting berth. Rubén López led the line for Estrella last season, well enough for his former coach to give him a chance.

Style

In Sargossa the three at the back is king, unless you’re José Carlos Martínez. He likes a back three, and tends to use a 3-4-3. But he’s no stranger in keeping a back four in his pocket if necessary. The new coach is also a proponent of his side’s soaking up pressure before hitting the opposition with lightning fast counters. Lightning fast and with a directness that borders on old-fashioned in a world where tika-taka is increasingly the vogue. Set pieces will likely play a key role too. Specialised set piece coaches are much in vogue domestically and Manuel Semprún has been poached from domestic giants Ciudad Soluca to fill the role for the national side.

The Sargossan domestic league is quite a physical league so challenges can often be described as 'uncompromising' and cards are pretty common. Gamesmanship, while not encouraged, is not entirely uncommon. But diving is considered particularly stigmatic so Sargossan players are unlikely to be found doing it.

Shortly before the Igratian National Football Team began their Copa Rushmori campaign, they announced a major sponsorship deal. Stellar Bridge, a forthcoming digital asset trading platform, was announced as the "Official Presenting Partner" of Igratian football.

Watching the Igratia national team defeat five-time Copa Rushmori champion Sargossa in Santa Mordana were Georges-Charles le Parquier, Stellar Bridge's Chief Architect and Victor du Val, Stellar Bridge's Chief Innovator. le Parquier and du Val are two natives of Oberour Ar Moro who established Stellar Bridge in Luxton, Igratia's tech and economic hub.

When interviewed du Val called this a "Limitless opportunity for Igratian football and for our future investors." le Parquier described the partnership as "An unprecedented overlay of market mechanics and fan-centric innovation," nodding all the while.

The two native Oberours established Stellar Bridge in Luxton, Igratia's major AI and blockchain hub. With the promises made by du Val and le Parquier, this could be the biggest step in the decade into Igratia's effort to become a global AI and blockchain finance power.

The announcement of the partnership by Laura Clarendon, the Chairwoman of the Igratia Football Federation, promised token giveaways, exclusive merchandise and virtual meet-and-greets for Igratian fans in the future. But in the short-term, the Igratians defeated Sargossa to begin their Copa with a strong start.

The Copa Rushmori's curtain raiser was The Kytler Peninsulae versus Oberour Ar Moro in Zube. Thousands of Oberours tried to make their voices heard in a back-and-forth match that led to a 3-2 Dragoons victory. Two other Oberours were taking in Rushmori football during Matchday One, but they were in Santa Mordana watching the Igratian national team. Georges-Charles le Parquier and Victor du Val are two citizens of Oberour Ar Moro but have moved to Igratia in order to work in the field of crypto trading.

le Parquier and du Val are not the only Oberours working in Igratia. Oberour involvement in the Igratian economy is not unknown. Igratia's mining, finance, technology, and biotech industries have significant Oberour investments within them. But seeing Oberour citizens as the main public-facing figures of an Igratian-based company is much rarer.

"We are both proud Oberours," said le Parquier while in The Kytler Peninsulae. "It's just a shame that in this limited area Oberour Ar Moro is preventing technological advancement and an opportunity to make money for myself and my partner. And other Oberour citizens," he added while nodding briskly.

Cryptocurrency trading and transactions are banned in Oberour Ar Moro. As explained by Kanna Gédouin, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Revenue Monetary Policy Committee: "Crypto operates outside central bank control and can encourage capital flight and tax avoidance. Use of Argenteus allows for proper oversight of digital purchases and transactions within the Dominion." Because of this, le Parquier and du Val are taking advantage of Igratia's support and investments in blockchain finance and technology.

This is not the only example of Oberours running up against the hard limits of the Dominion's capitalist instincts and moving elsewhere. While Oberour Ar Moro introduced a national lottery, other forms of gambling are still illegal. This led to Mollien la Vache leaving Lancspoly Labs in Perchais to move to Côte d'Saphir. He eventually rose to become the Chief Technology Officer for the online gambling business Duck Entertainment.

Oberour Ar Moro has strict laws and punishments around the possession and use of narcotics and psychotropics. This filters down to even the research of these chemicals. Dr. John des Esseintes left his tenured position at de Biau-Veoir University in Odessos to take a position at Rovanpera Chemical Laboratories in Sajnur. He did so to study the medicinal usage of 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, better known as MDMA or the recreational drugs ecstasy or molly. "I cannot afford to risk being arrested like a criminal simply for doing research with clear potential benefits," wrote Dr. des Esseintes in his resignation letter to de Biau-Veoir University.

It's not a large trend, but it is a growing one, of Oberours leaving the Dominion to continue work elsewhere. But it is not yet a major concern for Oberour Ar Moro. "Our policies uphold Oberour Ar Moro's steadfast commitment to our Dominion's well-being and the Cathedrist values that define us," said Ivo de Biauquere, Deputy Minister of Industry, in a statement. "We respect the choices these talented men have made, but it is regrettable that they feel compelled to pursue industries and research that operate outside Oberour Ar Moro's national vision. There are many avenues and ample opportunities within established sectors where individuals can meaningfully contribute. Of course, should they choose to align their expertise to industries that share Oberour Ar Moro's shared vision, they will always find a place here."

Match Report: Tikariot 2-0 Ingont – The Valkyries Take Flight
The Ride of the Valkyries has officially begun, and what a way to kick it off! Tikariot’s ladies marked their return to Copa Rushmori with a commanding 2-0 win over Ingont, showing the world that they mean business and are far more than a gimmick, as some naysayers accused them to be.

The Thunder Clap Sets the Tone
The atmosphere inside Edencliff's Chalk Field was explosive as the Dark Tide made their presence known. As the players formed their triangle at the kick-off circle, the lone drumbeat signaled the beginning of the now-infamous Thunder Clap. Fans and players moved as one, each clap echoing like a war drum. By the time the last resounding boom filled the air, Ingont’s players looked like they had seen a ghost.

First Half: Breaking the Deadlock
From the opening whistle, it was clear that Tikariot did not come to play. Well, they did play, but they were serious about this. Lauren Carpenter dictated the tempo from midfield, linking up with Andarra Belfrage and Vilhelmina Gyldenstrand to probe Ingont’s defence.

The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Cassandra Cresswell delivered a pinpoint cross into the box. Geneviève de Verronneault, making her debut, rose above the defenders and guided a header into the bottom corner. A roar erupted from the crowd as the young striker ran towards the bench, mobbed by her teammates.

Ingont tried to respond, but Tanis Hemingway and Callia Canterbury were rock-solid at the back. Goalkeeper Magdalena von Yxkull barely had to break a sweat as the Snowy Owls kept their opponents at arm’s length.

Second Half: Closing the Show
The second half saw more of the same as Tikariot controlled possession. Ingont had their best chance in the 52nd minute, but a last-ditch tackle from Cassiopeia Hawthorne denied them an equalizer.

The insurance goal arrived in the 68th minute. A blistering counterattack started with Gyldenstrand weaving through midfield before slipping a pass to Elia Molyneux. The winger cut inside and unleashed a venomous strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

McAllister made a few changes, bringing on Esca Griffiths, Magdalena Strandberg, and Taaina Pyhäranta to see out the game. Strandberg nearly made it three in the dying minutes, but her effort rattled the crossbar.

As the final whistle blew, the Valkyries had their first win, and a statement had been made.

Post-Match Press Conference
Coach Brian McAllister took the stage alongside Geneviève de Verronneault, Elia Molyneux, and Tanis Hemingway.

Reporter: Brian, first game of the Ride of the Valkyries, first win. How satisfied are you?

McAllister: Winning's always satisfying, but what matters more is how we played. We stuck to our philosophy, controlled the game, and showed everyone that Tikariotian ladies can go toe-to-toe with the best.

Reporter: Geneviève, first cap, first goal. Dream start?

de Verronneault: Honestly, yeah! I was nervous, but once the ball hit the net, all that went away. I owe it to Cassie [Cresswell] for that cross. But it feels great to score in the first game!

Molyneux leans over with a smirk.

Molyneux: Don’t get used to it. We can’t have you scoring in every game; you’ll make the rest of us look bad.

de Verronneault responds with a mature stuck-out tongue before laughing out loud.

Reporter: Tanis, the defense looked rock solid. What’s the key?

Hemingway: Good communication. And also, when Callia and I are on the same page, it’s like having a ‘No Entry’ sign at the back. But it also helps when the opponent doesn't even come close to us.

Reporter: Brian, people are curious—why revive the Ride of the Valkyries?

McAllister: Because it’s time. We have the talent, the hunger, and the support. This isn’t just a gimmick; it’s a movement. And judging by tonight, I’d say it’s off to a damn good start.

Reporter: Some people have said that it devalues the competition not to choose from the entire talent pool.

McAllister: I can see why some might think that, but this is also an opportunity to give players a chance that can form the future backbone of the national team, so why not? If I didn't think we had a shot at retaining our title, I would not have nominated them. Plain and simple.

Between Games: Life in Camp
The squad returned to their training base in high spirits. Some players dove straight into recovery sessions, while others found time to unwind.

The morning were a tale of two extremes. Madeleine-Sophia de la Rochefoucauld-Verdier, ever the early riser, would be up before the sun, already lacing her boots while sipping on what she called "the strongest coffee on earth." She had a habit of sitting in the corner of the dining hall, headphones in, reviewing game footage like it was sacred text. Wiołeta Motyka, on the other hand, had to be practically dragged out of bed every morning. The team had resorted to blasting music outside her door to get her moving, with the main problem that she actually enjoyed the sounds of Tikariotian death metal band The Crimson Court. But even then, she shuffled in half-asleep, still in her pyjama top, grumbling about “cruel and unusual punishment” as she reached for her first bite of food.

Breakfast wasn’t just a meal—it was a battleground. Cassiopeia Hawthorne, the team’s youngest defender, had made it her mission to sneak extra pastries past the nutritionist, with the help of fellow youngster Léonie-Alexandra Dufour-Vandenberghe, who had a knack for distraction tactics. The two would stage an elaborate diversion with Dufour-Vandenberghe faking a shoelace emergency while Hawthorne made off with two extra croissants. The nutritionist caught them, but their sheer dedication to the craft was impressive.

Training sessions were all business, but they had their share of moments. The backup center-backs, Solfrid Frøya Fiskerstrand-Kyvåg and Anna-Sofia Nørregaard-Hjelmborg had an ongoing tally of how many unnecessary stepovers the wingers attempted in a single session. “That’s five today,” Anna-Sofia would call out mid-drill, prompting exaggerated groans from the offending party. Meanwhile, the goalkeepers, led by Petrun Perla Jóannsdóttir, had a bizarre superstition—no one was allowed to touch their gloves before training. “It messes with the energy,” Petrun claimed. When Magdalena Strandberg, the team’s resident troublemaker, once jokingly picked them up, Petrun refused to use them for the entire session, borrowing a backup pair instead.

The team meeting was mostly serious, but there was always a moment where someone cracked. During a set-piece review, the screen replayed Callia Canterbury tripping over absolutely nothing while marking her opponent. The entire room erupted in laughter as she threw her hands up in protest. “Divot in the grass!” she insisted, though no one saw anything but air.

But it was the evening were where personalities truly shone. The common room became a war zone—CAFA battles, card games, and heated table tennis showdowns. Motyka, despite her sluggish mornings, was the undisputed CAFA queen, until one night, Anaig-Gwenhwyfar Le Gréac'h-Caouaissin dethroned her in a shocking upset. The celebration that followed—complete with a victory lap around the room—ensured that Motyka would never live it down.

Some players opted for a movie night, though picking a film was more difficult than nominating the roster for the tournament. The defenders pushed for action movies, while the playmakers wanted comedies. When Strandberg suggested a rom-com just to cause chaos, the team groaned—but by the end, even the toughest players were secretly invested in the underdog love story. “Not bad actually,” Belfrage muttered at the credits, to which Strandberg smirked, “Told you.”

The recovery sessions were where the real entertainment happened. Ice baths were a necessary evil, and watching Dufour-Vandenberghe psych herself up for the plunge was a highlight of everyone’s day. “Mind over matter,” she’d say, only to scream the second she hit the water. The loudest player on the pitch, reduced to a squealing mess in an ice bath—it never got old.

Fan Reactions and Kordavia on the Horizon
The Dark Tide was in full voice after the win. Social media exploded with praise:

“The Valkyries have landed! What a game! #SnowyOwls”
“Geneviève de Verronneault—REMEMBER THE NAME! #NextBigThing”
“McAllister’s got something special brewing here. Loving this team! #RideOfTheValkyries”

With Kordavia’s surprise victory, expectations are high. Fans are eager to see how the team will respond. Can the Valkyries continue their march, or will Kordavia play spoiler?

The battle drums are beating once more. The Ride of the Valkyries is just getting started.

The Captina Company Football Team began their Copa Rushmori 48 campaign with a strong statement, winning 2-0 over Qusmo at Taa'kai Memorial Stadium in Vengife which coupled with other Group C results puts them atop the table after the first round of matches.

The result snapped a 5 match winless stretch dating back to the end of World Cup Qualifying, and was the team's best overall performance since a 3-0 win at home over Sangti & the Filindo Isles during that competition, according to Manager Jonas Yarborough.
“Definitely a good way to start this tourney, now we need to follow up with another result to keep us ahead of the pack.” It also marked the fourth straight regional that Captina kicked off their fixture list with a victory.

Olastor will be the matchday 2 opponent as the side will travel to Santa Mordana for a one-off fixture there before returning to Vengife for the matchup against Sargossa; the Corsairs were shocked on MD1 by Igratia to put the top seeds behind the proverbial Eight-ball and the Rosso e Oro will want to have all collected all of the points available before facing a team desperate to avoid having to play-in to the quarterfinals.

Patience Wedgewood opened the scoring with her 60th international goal 22 minutes into the contest, making her the first Captina player to surpass that total. Put into perspective, the Geneva City native has produced nearly 25% of the entire offensive output of the National Team in history (60 of 246). Marcella Lillywhite added the insurance tally in the 73rd minute to seal all the points.

A goalless draw to unranked Bohr was not the promising sign nor start to the Copa campaign that Thor had been hoping for after the success of the last Copa, although that had been back home in the dual islands. While he was happy with the defense and being able to keep a shutout, that the attack failed to convert on even a single opportunity that had been created for them was very concerning. An inconsistent attack had been a large part of why the Wanderers had failed to qualify for the World Cups before the 96th edition and part of why they failed to advance out of the group in the home World Cup, yet it had seemingly been found this past edition of the qualifying campaign and Finals. It was hard to continue to move forward and progress the team if issues that the manager thought he had already solved continued to show up. The question was how was he supposed to readdress this with the attacking players without being overly harsh or critical of them, as he did not want to through a huge hit into their confidence and morale. Yet they still needed to be a lot better if the team was going to figure a way through this difficult group that they had been drawn into.

Next on the schedule was Norrhem, the second lowest ranked team in the group and they were coming off a surprise two to one victory over Valladares, as all three lower ranked teams in the group manage to find a result on the opening matchday. With the series of upsets to start out group play, it did mean that the group was entirely wide open and the Wanderers slip up to start out the competition was not a major pitfall as it first might have felt like. Losing to an unranked team was still far from acceptable for the team and their history in the competition, but they were still in the mix to come away as group winners if they managed to find results in the rest of their games. Norrhem present a bit of a challenge as they are one of the lesser known sides in the group, much like Bohr before them, and the scouting team had been having quite a bit of trouble finding out any meaningful information about the potential line up that they were going to field or what sort of tactics that their manager would likely be set to employ against the Wanderers, leaving Thor with a bit of a conundrum.

How was he supposed to prepare his team for a team or style that he really had no information on, even though the scouts had been at the game between Norrhem and Valladares, they had apparently not been able to really gleen any information from that scrap of a match. They were a lower ranked team though and historically those sort of teams did like to sit back and try to absorb the pressure that the more technically gifted sides would put on and then hit out on the counter when they had the opportunity to. There was no doubt that against nearly everyone in the group except for maybe The Kytler Peninsulae and Oberour Ar Moro that the Wanderers would be the technically more gifted side and probably should expect to deal with that sort of tactical approach. If Bohr was able to keep their attack bottled up and left frustrated at the end of the ninety minutes, then unless they drastically improved their lethality in front of net the more talented teams were going to be able to replicate the same to far greater effect and could very well nullify all that the Wanderers were hoping to do with this tournament.

There was the option of playing Zágon Schmid a bit further back as well as Bogdan Laszlo, but it would put a lot of pressure on Járngrímur to finish off attacking movements on their own. They had done it with quite a bit of regularity in the SuperLiga but they had weeks and months to build chemistry with the rest of their teammates where with the national team there was two weeks before the start of the tournament to get acquainted with everyone. It was why a lot of national teams tended to play more simple and even a bit more defensively sound tactics than what you would regularly find at the domestic scene, looking to make the best with the players and time that you had. No, he had decided he was going to embrace the Pasargan traditional formation of a four-four-two and that's what he was going to stick to through thick and thin. A single game at the start of the tournament was not a trend, he needed to hold faith that his players would rise to the occasion and in the next few games would find their scoring boots to shoot the Wanderers to the top of the group and the knockouts thereafter.
