So, I downloaded NSFS3. Looking at the chatter here, I want to personally compare how xkoranate and NSFS3 are in leagues and cups. I downloaded it in the link that I see almost everywhere, which is here. After downloading them (the current version files, as well as the source code), I can't get to make it to work on creating new leagues and cups. I'm pretty sure my JRE is updated, as well, so I don't know wthat the problem is. Can anyone help? :)

Is there hope for a new Mac XK?

I don’t think we’ve gotten much work in on the 64 bit version yet for the new OS.

I had the problem while running OS Catalina where I wasn’t able to run xkoranate, although I was able to find a VM online that works online for it that I’ll link below. I don’t have much knowledge with c++ or Qt app development yet, so most of my knowledge is limited to sport files and what different paradigms across the program do.

Link to Oracle VBox: https://www.virtualbox.org/
Link to Directions that Apox linked in the NSS discord server: https://trendblog.net/virtualbox-windows-10-macos/

If you don’t want to have to set up a VM and run xkoranate on it, I can’t really offer a timetable right now for when the program will be user friendly, although I wouldn’t necessarily expect it to be in the very near future.

Any progress on updating xkoronate to the Mac version? I had to finally submit and update the computer, Wine isn't opening xkoronate unfortunately...

Hey guys, I had a question about NSFS.

So I'm on macOS, and I've been able to open up NSFS perfectly fine, and it works well. However, whenever I save and try to re-open my league, it doesn't give me the option to do so (i.e. it won't let me open up the file). Any advice on this, or am I just screwed?

I've installed the latest update of Java just in case.

Then yes, you just need to edit the xml file and put the value you want.

Alternatively, you could just drop the last digit from the score it produces if you don't have a means to edit the xml.

Any possible tennis scorinator alternatives to XK? I have the classic 'Mac OS too new' problem, and this seems to be a barrier of entry for domestic leagues/newswires. Not completely sure about my access to PCs at the moment

Hello everyone!
I have a question in which the answer to is likely very obvious, but I downloaded xkoronate for mac a while ago, but it apparently doesn't work with the latest mac version. Is this true, or do I need to do something with it first? Also, if the answer is the first one, are there any scorinators that work with the latest edition of mac updates that work with ice hockey? Thanks!

I can tell you a little bit about this. In short, yes, it's true, at least from my experience and research.

XK is apparently a dinosauric fossil of a program that has been in need of an update for a decade and counting, meaning the most recent versions of Mac OS are a bit too sophisticated and advanced for ol' XK. That's at least what my research told me, after I valiantly tried to pull the sword of XKalibur out of the stone of my Mac. XK is, though, eternally fine on PCs of course.

So, to answer your question, if you find a way to run XK on a Mac, tell me how. Otherwise, I hope you can find access to a PC or an alternate scorinator! Public libraries, at least where I'm from, have free PCs you can use to run XK - has been a huge help for me

Well, thanks for telling me that I’m not alone at least! I suppose I can try to find some alternate computer to use, but that might be challenging. I’ve also used a website called ZenGm, which you can use to simulate some main team sports.

So ive tried setting up a domestic league in NSFS for the second season (the first was scorinated by a website), and have had trouble weighting the teams correctly. The way I do it is with each of them having an overall out of a hundred, but that produced very varied results. I tried scaling it up for a bigger difference between the teams (now it is at 10,000), but i still have my defending champs ending in 14th out of 16th some of the time. If the max rank points was 100, what would you put as your top and bottom team? Any other advice is appreciated.

Assuming this is NSFS 3.0.1a. Within every division, you'd want your top teams around 100 (can be above for especially dominant teams), and the lowest around the 30-40 mark if you want them to be somewhat competitive (any teams below 20 will have a real tough time getting points).

Each division will have its teams range from 30/40-100. Don't try and do 90-100, 80-90, 70-80 etc for divisions because NSFS doesn't take other divisions into account.

If you've still got access to a Windows computer, Chrome Remote Desktop works surprisingly well with Xkora.

I've been searching a way to scorinate leg-by-leg Sailing Match Races (like the ones in America's Cup).

For now, the most reasonable method I found is to use the Auto Racing Qualifier Formula, much like the NSSCRA, but instead of calculating the average, I decided to sum the results to make it more like the real results. However, if I set the "Variance" for 99 (maximum), the results are kind of biased.

I used the default 1.0 as the maximum for my tests, with two teams: Team Eight (Rating 0.8 ) and Team Seven (Rating 0.7)

Leg 1
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.575
2 Team Seven (Yacht Club Sevenville) 4:20.446

Leg 2
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:19.181
2 Team Seven (Yacht Club Sevenville) 4:20.663

Leg 3
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.281
2 Team Seven (Yacht Club Sevenville) 4:21.828

Leg 4
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.300
2 Team Seven (Yacht Club Sevenville) 4:21.332

Leg 5
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:19.838
2 Team Seven (Yacht Club Sevenville) 4:22.404

Leg 6
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.942
2 Team Seven (Yacht Club Sevenville) 4:20.516

The final result is a massive victory for Team Eight, as expected and reasonable, by around 20 seconds. The margin is somewhat okay.

But Match Races does not work this way, as far as I know. Boats are usually made on the same specification, so results can vary based on the skills of the skipper and its crew and of course, how winds behave. In 2021 Prada Cup, INEOS Team UK won races against Luna Rossa by 14 to 33 seconds. In the same event, the same INEOS Team UK lost races against same Luna Rossa by differences from 13 to 111 seconds.

When trying to scorinate a race between two teams with the same rating, the results are more feasible when it comes to different teams winning the legs, yet the margins are too tight, with competitors in the same second:

Leg 1
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.435
2 Team Eight 2 (Octoland Second Yacht Club) 4:18.078

Leg 2
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.375
2 Team Eight 2 (Octoland Second Yacht Club) 4:19.016

Leg 3
1 Team Eight 2 (Octoland Second Yacht Club) 4:18.222
2 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:18.353

Leg 4
1 Team Eight 2 (Octoland Second Yacht Club) 4:17.272
2 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.998

Leg 5
1 Team Eight 2 (Octoland Second Yacht Club) 4:17.302
2 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.765

Leg 6
1 Team Eight (Octoland Yacht Club) 4:17.840
2 Team Eight 2 (Octoland Second Yacht Club) 4:19.245

As I stated, the Variance is already set at the maximum of 99. Can someone help me with some input on this? Is there a way to make the results more variable, even if teams have more similar ratings?

Here's the XML I used to the test, if someone want to give a look.

As a follow up on not being able to use xkorninate, I've found the SQIS formula in this thread. But, I was wondering, as it wasn't included in the post I found, how are style modifiers included and how many 'attacks' are generated per game?

So, if I am reading your questions right, your wondering about the effects of the style mods, as well as attacks?

The xkoranate additive style mods do not increase a margin of victory, nor do they affect the outcome of the game. The NSFS style mods on the other hand, can affect margin of victory, however I do not believe they will change the W/D/L outcome of a game.

In SQIS, 12 base attacks are generated in a game, however from my understanding of the program when I worked on it about 2 years ago was that the SQIS and NSFS formulas can both have varying numbers of attacks based off of input to the program.

Keep in mind that this is based off of my knowledge from working on an unreleased and unfinished version of the program from a few years ago, and there may be others on the forum that have ran updated tests or trials that could change the validity of what I said.

Hopefully that answers your question and feel free to reach out to me about troubles getting the program to start (as you mentioned in the first part of your post) as I successfully ran it on a 64-bit OS and I wrote some code for the CE version.
