xkoranate has a baseball function and is the most widely used scorinator. Also, iirc the World Baseball Classic is going to be starting soonish.

Don't forget FFR also recently developed and is working on Baseinator, a baseball-exclusive scorinator with more advanced features.

Baseinator 1.21 (Source Code)

And if you're going to use xkoranate, its highly recommended to use the Adjusted NSFS formula.

Over the past few years, every edition of the WBC has either used Baseinator or Xkoranate with the Adjusted NSFS formula.

Hi!

I tried to download NSFS 3.0.1, and it looked alright at first. However, when I tried to click either New League or New Cup, nothing happened when I clicked either of those boxes. Curiously, all other buttons - Load, Continue, & Import for both Cup & League - did work. Does anyone have any suggestions for what's wrong or how I can fix it?

Thanks!

a couple of questions, open to anyone who wants to provide guidance:

domestic soccer--I've had some time to fiddle around with variables and skill/style combinations. I have a baseline now, but was wondering about what some others use. We'll assume 20 team league here.... For example--
Skill level spread? what min/max parameters and how far across the spread do you sort your teams? And what about 2nd divisions...same parameters or lower?

style mods (without bonus): how wide a spread? narrow (-1 to 1) or wider (-5 to 5)

set-up--home advantage? And do you personally run the whole season in one shot, or do you do it in stages?

Oh, and what am I doing wrong in trying to import my teams and skill levels into the NSFS soccer scorinator from a TXT file? I've done it for American football, formatted like I read in this thread, but it doesn't seem to work for the soccer. (EDIT: I've done something wrong. The same file I used for football loads into soccer and a couple of other sports. Ignore this question!)

Skill variations are literally up to yourself. Good teams will have high values, bad teams will have low values, mid-table teams in the middle values. Just depends on how you want to set your league up - a Germany-style "one team curbstomps all" type league or a "it's anybody's season" like the English Premier League - as to how spread out your skills are. Personally, my leagues are set up with a min-max of 0-20, but only a few teams are below 10. But just experiment with the numbers till you're happy, to be honest.

Style mods, again, are just what you want them to be. Depends on how similar you want your teams to be - do you want them all to play balanced football (+/-1), or a wide mix of park the bus tactics and all out attack (+/-5). I personally go for the latter, more room to wiggle about in. Functionally, there isn't much difference between +1 and -1 - maybe about 10-20 more goals for/against in a 38 game season. Personally, I go for the full style range.

As for 2nd and lower divisions, I use the same spread for the individual leagues, because the scorinator doesn't compare across leagues, but I stagger the spread for cup entries (i.e. top flight gets +50 skill on their league value, 2nd division +40 and so on), to maintain the division skill gap. But again, entirely up to you. I always run home advantage, doesn't seem to be any point not to in a league. As for scorinating, I personally do it in one shot so I can look at the league results and see if it seems like an interesting season - if not, then I rescorinate (it's more tedious to rescorinate for cup competitions, so I tend to use whatever the first scorination is) - obviously don't do that for actual competitions with other people. On the other hand, other people like to take the season a bit at a time, and take whatever the scorinator throws at them and roll with it. Again, up to personal preference.

Thanks. I was curious as to how wide a skill range someone used. When I started learning the program, I used default settings. Even now, the season I am using for the Champions Cup qualifiers, the range of the teams is only fractionally different (between 4.0 to 5.0) although I've done a few other tests to understand how those numbers have to relate on the min/max scale. The original test run was much lower scoring than this current season, but I think I'll just call this an aberration and dial back for next time.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Before the last Quidditch World Cup, I wrote MALFFR Quiddinator and Spaam wrote his own scorinator. Spaam's scorinator was used for the last Quidditch World Cup and I'd recommend it (mainly because the default constants for my scorinator are not up to tournament-quality).

My personal advice is to find out what equations are being used for major competitions and tweak them for how you want teams to progress in your story. If you want something linear you may want to meddle quite a bit to begin with - personally, I like to put more of that energy into populating the world/league/etc, mess with the scorinator with 0 skill points across the board until I've ironed out all my typoes and style decisions, and then fire it up with 0 skill points again for several seasons, reorganize the league based on those results, and then start adding up their results to find their style points for the first season that actually submits teams to an international competition. All of that (except the scratch pad part with the typoes etc) can be lumped into season 1 RP, and the scorinator can decide how much credit to give each part if at all. If you're RPing a nation that's really trying to win the thing with your best clubs, a power move is to make a multiassociational league right then and there, i.e. with neighboring countries you can make up if you aren't in a region map.
You probably remember me as Free South Califas, ASCS (cant even remember what that stood for now), and several others. I'm ancom now (was demsoc then syndicalist as FSC).

I have an extensive league structure, that predates my involvement in NS. So I am more interested in trying to keep my historically successful clubs in a framework with other provincial/overachieving/underachieving sides. I'm not worried about the relative strength compared to the other clubs qualifying for the Champions Cup. It was really the nuts & bolts of the math I was looking to get a better understanding of.
thanks for the feedback.

May someone please help me out with RedBaller and how it works? It is seeming to be an absolute maze to me, and I would love to get my domestic first-class league started.

RedBaller is one of the most intuitive scorinators.

There's literally only 7 fields to fill out: home team, home team rank, home team RP/form bonus, away team, away team rank, away team RP/form bonus, and a ground modifier. -6 is a spinner's paradise, +6 is an absolute road. The scorinator does the rest. It only produces a match result, and no tables – you'll have to do that yourself.

However, the Google Sheets version appears to have been corrupted by someone who didn't know what they were doing. This is why we recommend people DOWNLOAD A LOCAL COPY to use.

I'll try to fix it, but I can't give any assurances.

Thanks a ton, Liventia.
Also, how are the scores generated after filling up the form? Is it a normal refresh?

The Racing Scorinator V2
Save to your own Google Drive (recommended) or download and run in Excel (has been known to have problems in the past)
See an error? Leave a comment on the file, or make a post on this thread, or send me a TG

The Racing Scorinator V1 was an attempt at distilling a very old and heavy scorinator into a version that was palateable for the average person. V2 is an entirely newly made scorinator that should be much more user friendly, and has plenty of new features as well.

For anyone who is a bit put off by the masses of numbers firing everywhere: relax. If you follow the instructions and don't fiddle with any parts that you shouldn't fiddle with (ie the bits that aren't formatted in a friendly way) then you should be fine.

Here are some instructions. Let me know if you need anything adding.

Setting up the Scorinator

ENTERING DRIVERS
- Go to the 'Input' tab. Find the orange boxes on the left.
- Insert the information for each driver. Nationality should be in the form of a trigram. 'DRV' is the trigram of the driver's family name. Make sure no two drivers have the same number. Make sure no drivers have the same DRV trigram.
- Enter the driver's RATE abilities.
= 'R' stands for 'Reliability'. Enter a number between 2 and 5.
= 'A' stands for 'Aggression'. Enter a number between 2 and 5.
= 'T' stands for 'Technique'. Enter a number between 2 and 5.
= When the above abilities are added together they should be equal to, or less than, 12. Examples: R4 A4 T4 / R5 A3 T4 / R3.05 A4.1 T4.85
= 'E' stands for 'Experience'. Here you should enter a number between 0 and 20.
- The information should automatically appear on all the relevant sheets.

ENTERING TEAMS
- Go to the 'Input' tab. Find the blue boxes in the middle.
- Enter the team name and nationality. The nationality should be in the form of a trigram.
- Enter the team's RATE abilities.
= 'R' stands for 'Reliability'. Enter a number between 2 and 5.
= 'A' stands for 'Aerodynamics'. Enter a number between 2 and 5.
= 'T' stands for 'Technical and Engineering skills'. Enter a number between 2 and 5.
= When the above abilities are added together they should be equal to, or less than, 12. IE R4 A4 T4 / R5 A3 T4 / R3.05 A4.1 T4.85
= 'E' stands for 'Experience'. Here you should enter a number between 0 and 5.

ENTERING CIRCUITS
- Go to the 'Input' tab. Find the green boxes on the right.
- Enter each circuit's nationality (in the form of a trigram), Circuit Name, Grand Prix Name and a url for the track image.
- The greyed 'fastest expected laptime' columns are automated. Ignore these.
- Enter the track's lap record. This should be for a WGPC-speed car.
- Enter the length of the track in kilometres.
- Ignore the '# of laps' column. This is automatic.
- For the circuit's Aggressiveness rating, enter a number in the 'A' column. This number should be between 1 and 9.
- For the circuit's Technical Difficulty, enter a number between 1 and 9. The A and T numbers should add up to ten.
- If the qualifying type is 'Traditional', enter 'T'. If it's two-tiered, enter 'TT'. If qualification type is 'One Shot', put 'OS'.
- Under 'Chance of Rain (%)' enter the percentage chance of an event being wet. This number should be between 1 and 20. 1 means there will be a 1% chance of a wet race and 1.5% chance of a 'changeable' race. 20% means there will be a 20% chance of a wet race and a 30% chance of a 'changeable' race. Use 5% as an average.
- Enter the 'overtaking difficulty' stat for each circuit. This should be a number between 0.1 and 5, with 5 being difficult to overtake (narrow circuit / street circuit) and 0.1 being easy (wide circuit / fast circuit). 2.5 is average.
- Enter the 'Margin for Error' stat for each circuit. This should be a number between 0.1 and 5, with 5 meaning mistakes are punished severely (narrow circuit / street circuit / large gravel traps) and 0.1 meaning driver errors are less costly (wide circuit / circuit with large tarmac runoff areas). 2.5 is average.

GENERAL SEASON INFO
- Just to the right of the circuits you'll see some boxes for general info about the season.
- Enter the 'kilometres per race' on the right hand side. This is 305 for the WGPC. It will probably be lower for WGP2 and lower again for WGPT3. Have a look on wikipedia if you aren't sure.
- For 'Speed of Cars' put '100' if the cars are Formula 1 standard, '90' if the cars are GP2 standard or 85 if they're WGPT3 standard. You would put 45 or so for touring cars, 60 for Formula E cars etc. Again, have a google if you aren't sure.
- If you'd like pictures of the cars to appear when you post to the forums, put a 'Y' in the 'Car Pictures? Y/N' field.
- Enter the amount of points awarded per race on the right-hand-side of the yellow fields. If these aren't in descending order then you're doing something very wrong. At the bottom of this list there is an option to allocate points for the driver who is fastest in qualifying.
- There is the option to have limited spots in the race compared to the amount of registered drivers, meaning, for example, that up to thirty different drivers can contest qualifying but with only, say, 24 making the starting grid. Set the amount of drivers to start the race by altering the number next to 'drivers on grid'. For the maximum possible, this should be set to thirty (an uncommonly large number for top-tier open wheel racing)

- To the right of these green and gold boxes there are some red boxes. It's not a good idea to edit these unless you know exactly what you're doing. It's probably okay to lower the 'spin constant' or 'crash constant' numbers if you find races are a little incident-heavy for your liking, but I wouldn't raise or lower any of them by more than a couple of points.

Scorinating

SCORINATING PRACTICE EVENTS

- Sort out RP bonuses first.
- Go to the 'Scorinate' tab. In the B1 field next to 'raceweek' you should put the current week of the season. For the first event this number would be '1'.
- Enter 'P' (meaning 'Practice') in field B2.
- The results for that practice event should then be displayed. This may take a minute.
- Copy and paste the information displayed into notepad (or similar) and neaten it up.
- Paste into thread in PRE tags.

SCORINATING QUALIFYING EVENTS
- Sort out RP bonuses.
- Go to the 'Scorinate' tab. In the B1 field next to 'raceweek' you should put the week. For the first event, this number should be '1'.
- Enter 'Q' (for 'Qualifying') in field B2.
- Results for qualifying should appear.
- Copy and paste the information displayed into notepad (or similar) and neaten it up.
- Paste into thread in PRE tags.
- You'll see a row of purple cells to the left of the yellow box. Highlight these and hit ctrl+c
- Go to the 'Standings' tab and look for the purple fields under the heading 'Starting Grid'. Select the top blank cell (IE for race one this would be cell Q4). Right-click and in the 'paste special' submenu select 'paste values only'. This will set up the starting grid for Sunday's race. It will also set the random number generator back in motion, so your results are now lost in the scorinator. This is why you copy and paste the yellow boxes into notepad first.

SCORINATING RACE EVENTS

- Sort out RP bonuses.
- Go to the 'Starting Grid' tab and check that the cars are in the correct order on the grid by checking the 'Starting Grid' section. If it's race one, then you should find a list of numbers in fields Q4 to Q33.
- Go to the 'Scorinate' tab. In the C1 field next to 'raceweek' you should put the week. For the first event, this number should be '1'.
- Put an 'R' (for 'race') in field C2. Wait a few moments (likely a minute) and the race results should appear in the big yellow box in columns K to Q.
- Copy and paste the information displayed into notepad (or similar) and neaten it up.
- You'll notice a row of yellow numbers in blue boxes next to the big yellow box. Select all the blue boxes and hit 'ctrl+c'.
- Go to the 'Standings' tab and select the first blank box in the rows of blue boxes. Select the top blank cell (IE for race one this would be cell AM4). Right-click and in the 'paste special' submenu select 'paste values only'. This sets the spreadsheet's random number generator back into motion, so the race's results will be replaced. This is why you copy and paste into notepad first.
- Go back to the 'Scorinate' tab and copy and paste the updated drivers and constructors' championship standings into notepad.
- Neaten up and post in PRE tabs.

GRADING RP BONUS
- Go to the 'RP bonus' tab
- Write the trigram of every RPer in the leftmost column.
- The first column, headed '1' is for all RPs written before the first race. The maximum RP bonus is 10.
- The scorinator runs on a multiplicative/degrading system. RPs graded for the current race are multiplied by 5. Previous races are multiplied by smaller and smaller numbers until they approach '1', in which case they stay the same.
- If you'd prefer to use an additive RP bonus system, then you can simply replace all of the numbers at the top with a '1' in each field.

New for Version 2
The 'Experience' Metric'
- Drivers
A driver's experience metric is calculated like so:
Their points total for their previous season in a WGPC event (using the format of 20 points for a win, 18 for second, 16 for third, 14 for fourth and so on) is divided by the amount of races in that WGPC event. For example, a driver attaining 50 points over a 10 race season will attain (50/10 = 5) points.
If the previous season was in the WGPC, then that figure is multiplied by 1 (5).
If the previous season was in WGP2, the figure is mulitplied by 0.75 (3.75)
If the previous season was in WGPC Tier 3, the figure is multiplied by 0.5 (2.5)

This figure works as a multiplier for RP bonuses. It only affects a driver's performance if they roleplay during the season. A driver with an Experience score of 2.5 would have their RP bonus mulitplied by 1.025. A driver with the absolute maximum Experience score of 25 (very unlikely) would have their RP bonus multiplied by 1.25.

- Teams
A team's Experience metric is simply the amount of seasons they have been taking part in WGPC competitions, up to a maximum of 10. For example, a team that has entered into three previous seasons of WGPC would have an EXP rating of 3, as would a team that were entered into WGPC Tier 3 one season, WGPC2 the next, and WGPC afterwards. If a team is entered into two championships in one season it is counted as one experience point. It is used in the same way as the driver metric in that it affects only RP bonus.

USING IMAGES
You can select, in the 'input' tab, whether or not you want the scorinator to display images of the cars instead of the names of the teams for posting to the forum.
In the 'images' tab you'll find column A is for team names. Copy and paste each team into this column. In the C column write the address for the image you want to use. It should automatically display the image in column D and the bbcode link in column B.

On the right there are optional images for posting to the forum. These appear automatically in the 'scorinate' tab in the event's information box.

THE VIRTUAL SAFETY CAR
In the event of a bad crash, a virtual safety car is deployed, during which time all drivers must keep to a slow laptime (at minimum about 120% of the circuit's fastest lap, meaning drivers would be forced to complete laps at 75 seconds per lap for a circuit which has a fastest lap of 60 seconds. This will be slower for wet races)
[/pre]

FAQ
Q: Is this the WGPC scorinator?
A: Not yet. WGPC16 was scorinated with the final build of The Racing Scorinator V1. I dubbed it 'V1.999'.

Q: Which is better?
A: This one by a country mile. Once the bugs have been ironed out.

Q: There are bugs?
A: Almost definitely.

Q: Is this scorinator balanced?
A: I can imagine no situation wherein someone could properly balance the 'R' metric with the 'A' and 'T' metrics. 'A' and 'T' compliment each other, so they're fine, but 'R' used to be a little under-powered. It might be over-powered this season or it might still be under-powered. I don't know. If you're doing some sort of statistics or maths thesis at university and have a spare couple of years you might want to have a look at it.

Q: This is a bit overwhelming...
A: It is a little, yes, I suppose. You can make it easier by ignoring anything that's in a grey box. The bits that you'll need to enter data into are generally colorful.

Q: Can I make changes to the formulas?
A: Sure, go ahead.

Q: SHOULD I make changes to this sheet?
A: If you know what you're doing then sure, why not?

Q: I haven't used any spreadsheets before, actually.
A: Then no. You should probably change nothing.

Q: I found an error in the sheet...
A: Awesome! Please TG me and leave a note in the scorinators thread

Q: What do the 'RATE' things do?
A: Drivers take their 'A' skills from their own Aggression stats and their car's Aerodynamic stats and multiply them by the course's Aggressiveness stats. It's the same with the Technique/Technical Skills/Technical Difficulty stats. The reliability stat controls how often they crash or spin or destroy their car, how well they do in the wet and also governs things like how many flying laps they can attempt in practice and qualifying.

Q: You've only just released this scorinator. Nobody else has used it. How is it possible that you have 'frequently asked questions'
A: How is it possible that your face has frequently asked questions, you mean.

Q: I pressed a button and all the results changed and it's messed everything up!
A: Don't press a button. The moment you scorinate you should:
(a) Immediately copy and paste the results into notepad.
(b) After qualifying you should immediately C+P the final qualifying positions into the racegrid and, after the race, you should immediately copy and paste the results into the results grid.
If you do anything between (a) and (b) then you will lose your data.

Q: I.. lost the data...
A: Rescorinate.

Q: Can a team change drivers in the middle of a season?
A: Yes, that's not too much of a problem. Simply go to their row in the Standings tab, highlight the entirety of a driver's row, hit Ctrl+C, and then go to the first free spot and right click > paste special > paste values only. Then enter the new driver's information where the old driver's info used to be in the 'Input' tab. All that's changed is that you'll have to manually add the old driver's points-scored into the constructor's championship thing when you post it.

Q: Can a driver drive for two teams during a season.
A: If you don't mind that you'd have to do the standings manually then sure.
    * There was a wee problem with scorinating practice and traditional qualifying that has been ironed out now. There has also been a wee tweak to the formula, as previously the average laptime wasn't taking weather into account.
    * There is now the option to change how much home bonus a driver/team receives. The default is now one full point to Reliability with 0.25 points to the A and T metrics.
    * A bug with practice scorinating has been fixed. Results will now show properly regardless of how many drivers are listed in the Input tab.
    * Take note: When you copy the grid (column of numbers in the purple field, Scorination tab) to the Standings page, please remember to copy and paste-values-only *ALL* of the purple fields, even the ones at the bottom that aren't assigned to drivers. Otherwise you may find blank, nameless racers in your results.
    * Of the example drivers listed, numbers 26 to 30 have been removed. This was simply to test a part of the scorinator. Having 30 drivers is still fine.

For those of you who have already downloaded the old version but hadn't entered any info about your WGP3 season, please download the new version (same link, above) and delete the old version.

For those of you who have already downloaded the old version and have already entered your WGP3 data and don't want to re-enter the info, simply download the new version and copy and paste fields A1 to AK39 of the Input tab from your current version into the Input tab of the new version.

For those of you who have downloaded the old version and have made vast changes to it (hi Vilita), you may want to cross reference the following cells on the updated sheet with the corresponding ones on your sheet, as these are the ones that have been changed. A star next to the entry means that not changing this means you may still have a game-breaking bug in your sheet.

Duh. Having car images in two-tier qualifying now works properly. Thank you to Nimbus for finding this bug

It's probably also worth mentioning that the scorinators we have today are the result of those skilled in computer programming being members of the NS Sports community and programming them.

Thanks to a recent domestic league post by New Lusitania and the Algarves, I'm now aware of a site called leaguesimulator.eu; after mentioning it on IRC it was said that it's been known to some for a while but considered limited as far as the programs we're used to go. (I haven't personally tried it, but thought it might be helpful to mention it here.)

I've tried it and simulated a season 0 for most of my team sports a couple of months ago and I'm starting season 1 for soccer.

Soccer and rugby is fine. American football, I wish I could manually choose the schedule how I want it to be. Hockey stinks, I wish I could set divisions and conferences and teams could play more games and we could have more playoffs options. And baseball is non existant.

Here's hoping somebody will respond soon.

I have one big question, regarding Association Football (and other team sports while I'm at it) when adding participants and teams in xkornate, is it a requirement to add every individual player, or just the teams themselves?

Just the teams. Xkoranate doesn't allow individual players in team sports.

I have one big question, regarding Association Football (and other team sports while I'm at it) when adding participants and teams in xkornate, is it a requirement to add every individual player, or just the teams themselves?

Just the teams. Xkoranate doesn't allow individual players in team sports.

Precisely, the Rank and Style modifier (-5 All out Defence, +5 All out Attack) you input is of the team overall.

Question: Do any of Xkoranate's sports work for something like the robot battles in the Custom Robo series?
Jebslund is a nation of kerbals ruled by Emperor Jebediah Kerman. We reject tyranny, believing that rights should be protected, though we also believe said rights end where the rights of others begin.
Shockingly, we *do* use NS stats, with the exception of lifespan.
Singular sapient: Jebslunder
Plural Sapient: Jebslunden
Singular/Plural nonsapient: Kermanic
Note: When a verb can logically only be done by the sapient using/piloting/holding the object in question, then the appropriate demonym for the number of sapients is used.

Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism are ECONOMIC SYSTEMS. Stop conflating them with political systems.
