If its empty then all of the data that was in the file is gone and you'll have to start over.

But essentially what's being said is that the whole file simply deleted itself? How do I prevent that from happening again? Is that a computer problem or what?

Impossible to say without knowing what caused it. I've not encountered that particular issue myself so I'm inclined to believe it's something specific to your machine/environment/process. If I were to guess, I'd say most likely the file was opened for some process but wasn't closed properly, or some other corruption occurred somehow.

To prevent it in future, I'd probably make a backup before every scorination run and keep it on google drive or something like that. That way, it should be unaffected by anything else, and then, worst case scenario, you only lost the most recent set of results.

Obviously, depending on your OS and how regularly you keep system backups (Time Machine on OS X; System Restore points on Windows etc), you may be able to go back to a recent version of it that still exists.

Where do I go to get to this screen?

Regarding home advantage on xkoranate: I feel that the home advantage in ice hockey is a bit on the extreme side and wanted to change it.

I opened the file in notepad and found this:
<double type="homeAdvantage">1.333333333333</double>

I changed it and noticed an effect. My question is: what would be zero home advantage, 0.0 or 1.0?
If it's 1.0, am I correct in assuming that the original value gives the home team a 33% higher chance of winning?

Sorry if this has been asked already, I searched and found nothing.

I believe the relevant line in the source code is
Code: Select all
// calculate P(goal) on any given attack
         double pGoal = 1 - (bast + rankDiffModifier * (pow(oppSkill * rankCoeff, rankScalar) - pow(skill * rankCoeff, rankScalar))) / (baseAttackCoeff + homeAdvantage);

So it would appear that zero is the correct setting.

What file are you looking at that has a home advantage of 1.333333333333? The icehockey_nsfs.xml file has a home advantage of 7.5, which is the usual value for the NSFS football formula.

…Now that I look at it, there’s actually a serious bug in xkoranate’s NSFS paradigm code: the variable homeAdvantage is a bool. The value “homeAdvantage” from the sport file is never used. Effectively, that makes the home advantage +1 for the home team and 0 for the away team, when it’s supposed to be +7.5 for the home team and −7.5 for the away team.

I did think it was weirdly low if it was taking the 1.33333. Never thought to actually look at the type, haha

This is SQIS ice hockey, I probably should have mentioned that.
I looked at SQIS association foobtball and it appears to have the same home advantage of 1.333333333333.
I'm still interested in learning more about how these numbers work. Is it like multiplying the skill of the home team by 1.33, or is it adding 1.33 to the skill value of the home team?

It looks like you tried to open the XML file for a sport rather than running xkoranate itself. The version listed as "Tested on GNU/Linux" is actually the source code for xkoranate, so you'll need to compile it on your system before you can use it. Another option might be to download the Windows version and try running it in Wine.

In SQIS, the homeAdvantage value is a multiplier for the probability of the home team scoring a goal on each attack. A value of 1 would result in no home advantage.

Stupid questions.

1) I keep pressing the save button on xkorinate but can't seem to reopen anything. Anyone know how to fix this?

2) Is there a way to enter multiple entries at a time or copy and paste them? Or do you have to enter them one by one manually?

Thanks!

What do you mean you can't reopen anything? Does the button next to save not open a new selection window to find your file?

You can import a semicolon-delineated XML file with the entries, which means you don't have to enter them manually into xkoranate. You'll have to create the file first though so that will still involve some manual work.

NSFS 3

Postby EU Bureaucrat » Fri Jul 15, 2016 1:14 pm

I was wondering if anyone could help me with NSFS 3 because I've been tinkering with it for a while but I still don't know how to use well enough. There are still things that confuse like the difference between Leagues and then divisions in leagues. I mean what does "divisions in leagues" mean. Is it where you rank the leagues or what is it for?

If anyone could give me the general gist of what everything means I would greatly appreciate it.

Splitting a league into multiple divisions creates a setup similar to many American sports leagues, where teams play matches against teams from the other divisions (using the “vs each out-of-division opponent” option) but each division has its own separate standings.

So when you open NSFS 3 and you have the leagues and then the divisions within leagues, think of the league as if they were tiers on the pyramid. If that tier only has one league, then it has just a single division go in it. If it has two tiers, like the Conference North/South in the English Pyramid, then two divisions go into the division tab.

I created a scorinator for Gregoryisgodistani football, a type of gridiron similar to the former XFL in that the rules favor contact, violence, and defense, and thus lower scoring. The scorinator is here in case anyone wants to see it or use it. Obviously, I don't recommend using it for the World Bowl or any competition that's supposed to represent real American football, as the sport is significantly different than the standard rules, but if someone's looking to create an XFL-style competition, with or without the cheerleaders in salacious outfits and professional wrestling-style promotion, this would be a good one to use.

Note, however, that this uses sudden-death overtime rather than XFL style overtime because xkoronate does not support the unique format the league used.

Also, while creating this, I discovered that none of the American football scorinators support safeties, and the Candian football scorinator does not support two-point conversions.
