a star is reborn

When the team going to the IAC was announced many officials and players alike in the Starsian nation voiced criticism, the newly formed Masters team would be sent instead of the current national team that is the current generation.
But what led to the formation of the Masters team in the first place? it is something that takes us back many years ago after the incident with Morris Valerian who collapsed on the field and was never returning.

National teams campus, The 14 Stars approximately 12 years ago

As Valerian walked on the campus he heard the familiar sound of training, without any hesitation he went to the training field and was greeted by the staff who knew him well and liked him as the key playmaker for the NT back in the day.
When he showed up at the field he saw the Internationals train, however he saw some new faces and he walked up to coach Landry to talk about his return and the new rookies on the team he'd have to familiarize with.

''Hey coach, long time no see how have you been doing?''

''Oh hey Morris, i didn't see you in a while either i've been doing quite fine how has your injury been going? is it any better?''

''I have been released from care, the adjustments they made should prevent it from happening again so im ready to train hard and get back to the level i was before the injury and i see some new people aswell.''

''Oh....they did not tell you? I already was kind of confused seeing you here.''

''What do you mean coach? what did they not tell me?''

''I did not want to be the one to tell it but, you are history Morris you are being replaced by a player who we can put out there without the danger of him or her collapsing in the middle of the match.
I'm sorry Morris i really like you but you also have to admit that you can't go on like this, every match you play you will only hurt yourself more and more and that is something that the Association and me do not want.
I thank you for all your efforts those years though you will be known as one of the best we had.''

Morris left the campus, all his work all his struggle to return to play that last world cup....it was in vain he was no longer needed.
This really hurt him, he had alot of potential despite being an older player and maybe one with a medical background, he could still play at the highest level but he knew he could not do this alone.

1 year after Valerians retirement

Horus heard a knock on his door, it was a rainy night as a thunderstorm crossed the city and electricity had gone out so with the light on his phone he walked to the door and opened it cautiously unsure who would knock on his door at midnight.
But there in the rain was Morris Valerian, he looked at Horus knowing him from older times as Horus had played in the National team before they even entered multiverse football and he was the best still living player.

''Morris what brings you here at this hour? why do you come to my house during a thunderstorm.'' Horus asked not really knowing why he was here but after being kicked out of his club aswell he had nothing left, all he had worked hard for was gone.

''I need your help Horus, everyone gave up on me even my own club and more of us are gonna face the same destiny.....i got the letter that they got rid of me today.....please help me to give our generation a last chance.
I never wanted to quit, i was in my prime but still they said i was history, replaced by some rookie, i do not want it to end like this for me and for anyone else that is being forced out right now, you are our only hope as Broskov is ill and he is the last pre-pioneer NTer besides you.''

Horus was shocked to hear this, Valerian had been known as the best playmaker and strategic mind of his era and everyone had thought he would lead his team to a qualification in his last world cup.
But he got apparently kicked out of the NT and Club before he could even reach that age, he made a decision that night.

''Mhm....I'll do it, for Adrian and all of my generation who never had the chance to play internationally at all and unlike us you guys still have that chance even though you are all older now.''

Little bit by little bit Valerian and Horus started to gather veteran players each with their own story, highs and lows and each with their own qualities that made them top players in their prime and Valerian being a motivator to them.
His story inspired many veterans to come on board with the plan, to kick those youngsters back to where they belonged, these days the NT was valued over the league which was why many older players were forced out and even in the league the younger the better it seemed.
After years of hard work preparation and effort finally the Starsian Masters team was formed with the youngest player being aged 37 and the oldest being as old as 56 years of age all being retired former top players.

They started their campaign by challenging the U18 national team, even though they were physically in better shape they lacked alot of experience and this dramatic match ended 5-0 for the Veteran team shocking everyone.
Then the U21 team challenged them, they accepted and a hard and fierce battle was displayed by both teams, they were evenly matched the entire 120 minutes and the Veterans managed to win on penalties also beating the U21 who should be the next generation NT players.
With both teams being a disgrace the Association in the press conference brought the following statement.

''In following of the recent campaign by the team known as the Masters team they have displayed courage, determination and experience in football matches against players physically superior to them at the moment.
This has led the Association to determine that currently the Association and all national teams are in need of re-organization and as such will the Starsian National Team lay its focus to the world cup instead of the IAC.

Meanwhile as we have already confirmed attendance to the IAC, the Association has determined that the Starsian Masters team shall represent our nation during this tournament.
It has also been decided lastly that after this tournament the Masters Team will be disbanded because the Association needs to approve all legal nationaally affiliated teams, the Masters team has obtained this status now for this tournament only.''

A roaring crowd cheered as they would see their heroes one more time, old times would be relived and old legends one more time would step on the field in their national colors.
Even if they would be disbanded after the team for now was known as THE National team of the 14 Stars and Valerian could not help but shed a tear as Horus nodded friendly to him with a big smile on his face hearing the news.

''We've reached it Valerian, the old guard will make one last appearance this time on equal ground with its competition and we are gonna show the multiverse aswell that old players can still win plenty.''

''Thats right! we're gonna enjoy this moment and for all of us who no longer have a chance to be selected for the national team this is a great win already im really looking forward.''

Starsian Campus 2035 the present

''Alright guys we are in a quite easy group i think, its Stevencousin, Safiniatin, Aphrilia and one heavyweight which is Saterun.
Guess who we play first guys, its ofcourse Saterun so you will be starting with the most tough opponent and if we can pull a good upset here i believe the other matches can be seen with more confidence.

No need to have a strategy, you guys know what to do you all know the drill.
Stay in shape but also take your time to relax and unwind because this is gonna be the best holiday we've ever had!'' Horus said laughing as he as coach now said the final words for the meeting.
Whatever their opponents would try, they'd eventually see it and adjust at their age there was no need to rush anymore.

Radio Free Obama

Hosted by Jake Oppenheimer

...Come on, come on,
Hurry up Harry, come on!
Come on, come on,
Hurry up Harry, come on!
We're going down the pub!
We're going down the pub...

OPPENHEIMER: Good evening everyone! It is 8.41pm, and I am Jake Oppenheimer, your one and only Radio Free Obama host! That was Hurry Up Harry by Sham 69-

UNKNOWN VOICE: Woah, woah, woah! You can't say that, dude!

OPPENHEIMER: What the hell are you talking about?

UNKNOWN VOICE: You know. You know. That name!

OPPENHEIMER: What about it?

UNKNOWN VOICE: We're on air! We can't say their unapproved name. It's Oshama 69. You're going to get us into trouble!

OPPENHEIMER: What do you care about trouble? You're on the BBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List! You're on my pirate radio show! The point of this is so that we can say whatever we damn well want to say. Watch me. Fuck. [ten second pause] See? Nothing happened!

UNKNOWN VOICE: Okay! Okay! No need to shout, jeez. Just taking precautions. Nerves, ya know. It's my first time going out of hiding since... the 'incident'.

OPPENHEIMER: I bet you're all wondering what that 'incident' is! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome William Hempstead, alleged murderer and former manager of the West Barack and East Obama National Cricket Team!

HEMPSTEAD: Urm, I'd rather be called Obama-Hempstead. Still pretty used to it.

OPPENHEIMER: Come on, dude! Lighten up! You've escaped the Matrix, now embrace it! You don't have to use their imposed names anymore!

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: Yeah, I'm not really interested in that rebel lifestyle. It's why I'm here, actually.

OPPENHEIMER: Oh?

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: I'm here to clear my name and prove that I wasn't the one who poisoned Harry Obama II on that fateful day in Ko-oren. I'm innocent! And I'm tired of hiding! I want to go home and have a normal life. Being a fugitive isn't all wine and roses.

OPPENHEIMER: Wow... how juicy! But let's focus on the main purpose of the show: talking all about sports in a completely uncensored, entertaining way. Not like those goons in the BBC like Obamaniker. Real, beautiful footy bantz. Let's start with our upcoming match against Harry Islands. Thoughts?

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: Er. I'm not really sure. I don't follow football as much, you know, cause abstaining from technology stops them from capturing me. Is this still the World Cup?

OPPENHEIMER: No it's-... okay. This is the 20th edition of Independent Associations Championship. We're playing in HUElavia, a team that pipped us to World Cup Qualification in the most recent cycle's qualification group stage but we clutched on the playoffs. Our first match is arguably our toughest, with our squad playing Pot 1 team and previous edition's finalists Harry Islands in the opener.

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: Interesting! So... they any good? The Harry Islanders, us... who's gonna win?

OPPENHEIMER: Well, that's the thing! On paper, the Harry Islanders should be winning. After all, they made a magnificent run to the final and proved their salt, and we're a bunch of amateurs lower ranked than them. But there's many saying that they just had a purple patch and an easy run combine in Poafmersia that time, and the fact that they got destroyed in the final 6-1 probably confirms it! Plus, we're coming off the back of a highly successful World Cup run and even though our IAC performances have been inconsistent we should have the ability to pull a victory off.

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: Wow. That's neat for us.

OPPENHEIMER: Our lineup is a bit iffy though. Our players are really getting on with age. I heard that this may be Trent Vobama's last tournament as football captain before hanging up his boots.

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: Wow, Vobama? I haven't seen him in years. I wonder if he remembers me.

OPPENHEIMER: Anyways, I say that we have a pretty good shot if we don't underestimate the Harry Islands. If we put the same amount of focus into defending every move and putting every player behind the ball like we did against Mytanija and Chromatika, we can get beat them and hopefully clear the group stage.

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: Yep! Anyways, back to my story...

OPPENHEIMER: Hey, I'm not done. I'm getting to the good part! I'm about to show the heat maps. Our audience can't see them, so only you and the engineers get exclusive access! I made them myself. You're gonna love these...

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: All due respect, Jake, but I really need to share my side of the story. The world needs to know that I wasn't responsible for killing Harry Obama II. My assistant, Dr Manafort Obama, was wholly and completely responsible. He was insane, went rogue, and killed that guy out of cold blood. That's all I know, you can check the tapes if you want. He forced me to flee the nation with him and I was scared so I complied. Please, please, take me back. I'll cooperate with anything. Just please...

OPPENHEIMER: Okay, buddy, I know I said you could say anything on this show but... that was not it. It's my show, and I'm ordering you to keep your bootlicking out of here. Now stop sobbing and go wash your face.

OBAMA-HEMPSTEAD: Okay.

OPPENHEIMER: While we wait for out special guest to return, where we'll discuss the heat maps of players such as Jenny Barracki, enjoy some more fine tunes from Sonnel's Premier Pirate Radio. Here's Without You by Harry Nilsson, coming up...
Sonnel is the place.

Hero Talk

Image

You see two women on screen, one in her mid to late twenties, and another probably ten years younger than her, sitting opposite each other in what seems to be a garden, with a circular white table between them. The older woman smiles brightly and waves at the camera. "Hello everyone, I am Jang Sori and welcome to Hero Talk! Today, we have with us one of the students of Mutiara Spiritual Academy! Please, introduce yourself!"

Image

"Hiya everyone, I am class 1-A's electric hero, Sting! Nice to meet you!"

After introducing herself, the younger woman waved and bowed to the camera. Sori placed both hands on the table and started questioning Sting. "So, Sting...could you please tell us why you chose that name?" "Sure! I wanted a short name that kinda gives off some sort of...zapping sensation? Something that fits my powers. I want my name to to tell everyone I'm the quick zappy zappy girl, it really helps with showing who I really am! You're supposed to do that as a superhero, right? Stand out so people can tell you apart from other heroes with similar powers? Anyways, I couldn't think of one until I came across a quote from the boxer Muhammad Ali, "fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee", which meant moving and attacking quickly, like boom! I'm here, and when you look I'm gone, then I hit you again from the side, and boom! then another, and another, and so I felt that word was so me!"

"Wow, you're just as energetic as your name sounds! Speaking of powers, how do they work?" "Better yet, why don't I show you?" In a flash of a human-sized light, Sting disappeared. "Huh? Where'd she go?" "I'm right here!" said the young hero gleefully as she reappeared right behind Sori, before poking her shoulder with her finger, sending a tiny shock. "Ya! You scared me!" "Gotcha!" Sting said between giggles before teleporting back to her chair and putting the blanket she left back on her lap. "Okay, so you're a teleporter with electrokinesis. Got it." Sori sighed.

"Alright, on to the next one. You seem really chipper for someone from a class dealing with the most villain attacks in the history of Mutiara Academy. How do you stay so positive all the time?" Sting calmed down, her giggles turning into a small smile. "Well, there's no point in being so glum...if anything, that's just what the bad guys want. A hero needs fighting spirit, so why don't I be that one girl who gives her classmates just that?"

"That's thoughtful of you. Before we go, do you have anything to say to the viewers?" "No matter what happens, there's always something to smile about. There's always something precious you need to protect. That's why you need to keep on going! Even if things look bad, there's always light at the end of the tunnel! Fighting!"

Style Mod: +1.5

This Saterun squad has certainly gone through some changes since their last IAC run. In his first cycle as manager, Kameron Boyd led the Claws to a historic 3rd place in this tournament. Now, they return as a Pot 1 team looking even higher. But they're going to have to adapt to some major shifts in the squad. Hans-Jürgen Becker's term as captain is about to begin, and, although nobody doubts the 27-year-old's ability, his leadership skills are yet to be tested. The newer generation is starting to make waves, as many young stars barely missed out on selection this time. The defence is getting overhauled, with Dalca taking the starting spot and Cruz and Alfienk becoming full additions to the squad. The backroom staff stays the same, of course, but only time will tell if this new setup will yeild results even comparable to last time.

My Opponents, if they RP first. Can do the following:

Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes, but contact me first for approval

Greetings, compatriots!
TTV is here with a first installment of news about the adventures of our football team at the Jubilee, 20th, anniversary of the IAC.

It is unknown how many of these installments there will be, but we hope there will be as many as possible. 10th edition, which was played in Omerica they are was second one for our lads, after ignominous group stage exit in 9th We all was happy at the time, when our team at last cling to the playoff spot. This time our team start as first pot team. At the 20th tournament, everything, in accordance with tradition, begins with the group stage, and in it field of opponents consist of the teams with whom we never meet ever; in the lists of the group’s teams there is only one familiar face, Montana Verde. 4 times we were drawn against them at the World Championships, won twice, once play a draw and one game ended with victory for our opponents. And once the paths of teams from our countries crossed in ICT’s, in the 13th League of Victors, and ours lost to “Olimpia La Limana”. The lady from that team is now a reserve goalkeeper in the national team of Monte Verde. Of the people whose names say something to the domestic audience, in relation to MV we should mention, of course, the famous playmaker Primitivo, who at one time almost became the first foreigner in our league; one of our clubs tried to buy him, and now two of his potential teammates can take the field against him, and the players of other teams understand more fully what they might encounter if story goes by another course.

Of the other countries whose best football players will compete with our team at the IAC, Trolleborg played both rugby and handball with Devonta, but athletes from our country never met with the remaining opponents. We can also add that at the last World Cup Qualifying, Devonta end as 7th out of 8 places in their qualifying group, which was contained also Huelavia and three of teams which our fans very well know from the IAC, while Sudilia finished 5th out of 8 in her group.

Our team’s schedule is quite conducive to getting to know HUElavia more thoroughly; we will have to visit Sega, HUEsilia, San Franco, Curumba in succession. The first two points are in the west of the country side by side, so it’s quite possible to set up a base somewhere there, and use the break we have in the third round to relocate diagonally to the northeast, with sightseeing along the way, and then to the southern part of central sector. Moreover, Trolleborg Wings has direct flights to HUElavia, and I don’t know if there has ever been a case that prices of our airline can be really called high or even unaffordable. The temperature at the destination is just above 25 degrees, so you don’t need to carry much of anything with you, don’t need any special wear, so no long preparations are required: just a T-shirt and shorts, and after two and a half hours you’re already cheer for our lads!

Ah, one more addition to prove that you needed to speed yourself to the ticket portals - head coach, as the team already flew to HUElavia, add to the squad none other than Morten Troll. HC don't make any comments on the subject, so we don't know, is brilliant midfielder will be here as a elder statesman or as a first-line player, but nevertheless it's your chance to see some magic in your life, dear fellow Trolleborg inhabitants!.

AIRSAT Flight 2304, Daxler to Sao Salvador

They were 4 hours into the 6 hour flight, and Hans-Jürgen Becker was trying to get some sleep.

"Hey, Hans, do you think we'll win?" Hans-Jürgen cracked one eye to see his young teammate Leandro Alfienk staring at him. Leandro was only two years younger than Hans, but Hans felt as if they were a generation apart. He mumbled something about trying their hardest and closed his eyes. "I hope we win. I'm just so excited to be playing for the team in such a large tournament." Hans couldn't help but smile. It had been years ago, but he still remembered his first turnout for the NT, in this very same competition. It was a monumetal occasion for every player. He gave up trying to sleep and turned toward Leandro.

"It is exciting, isn't it? I think we'll put in a good performance. Kameron is the best coach we've ever had, and we have some amazing players on this team. Anything's possible." That made Leandro smile. In the row ahead, Andrei turned around. He had been listening intently, and had decided to speak. Andrei had been a national team stalwart, and was heavily respected by the rest of the team. When he spoke, you listened.

"We put our best tournament performance ever last time out. We've got some exciting young players, and I think this could be our year. Besides, I'm getting old. I want to win this thing before I retire." If anyone deserved it, Andrei did. And, well, Kaka Sarabola. Hans-Jürgen looked back at the 35-year-old. He had been the national team captain from the very beginning, and this cycle marked the first when another played had led the squad. He didn't have very many years left, and Hans-Jürgen knew what it would mean for him to capture the title. He had won the Saterun domestic cup once with his maiden team Mieteng City, but was finishing his career with Hans-Jürgen and Kameron Boyd's team Futsworth United. Lifting that trophy would mean the world to him.

2 hours later, the plane touched down in the airport. They had gotten a beautiful view of the city on the descent, and it was even prettier on the ground. Unfortunately, they wouldn't have much time to explore today. They had to get to the hotel, and then Kameron had organized a team meeting. They were finally here. Last time out in the IAC, they had been a wildcard team making a Cinderella run. Now, they were the 8th seeds, and considered a team to be reckoned with. Historically, the Jenna Raven Cup had been the only tournament where a Saterun team had been feared. Now, they were extending that to a WCC-sanctioned event. They were a team on the rise, and it was time to show the world.

This grouping sets the stage for a series of gripping encounters that will undoubtedly test the mettle of Crpostran's players.

The anticipation for Matchday 1 is palpable, with the spotlight on the clash between Ceni and Crpostran set to unfold at the Estadio Hueti in Jinaqa City at dusk. This prime-time encounter is not only a test of skill on the field but a showcase of Crpostran's footballing prowess. The 63,000-capacity stadium, known for its electrifying atmosphere, is expected to be a sea of Crpostranian blue, resonating with the cheers of the passionate "Talon Troops" (the fanbase) and the Crpostranian diaspora that has rallied to support their home nation.

The spotlight extends beyond the pitch to the hearts of fans back home aswell, as The Talon Troops, known for their unwavering loyalty, have organized fervent pre-tournament rallies, painting the streets in the national colors and igniting a sense of unity and pride. Local businesses have joined the festivities, adorning their storefronts with football-themed decorations, and schools across the nation are abuzz with football-themed activities. The entire country seems to pulsate with the rhythm of anticipation, as communities come together to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Recognizing the surge in demand, Crpostair has responded by announcing additional flights to HUElavia, catering to the influx of supporters eager to witness their team's historic moment.

In an exclusive interview with Coach Leonardo Bianchi, he expresses the team's gratitude for the overwhelming support from back home. "This is a momentous occasion for Crpostran football. We are not just representing our country on the field but carrying the dreams of a nation. The passion and unity we've witnessed from our fans inspire us to give our best in every match. We are ready for the challenges, and together, we aim to make history."

The impact of Crpostran's participation in the Independents Championship extends beyond the football pitch. With the domestic football leagues, Lique 2 and Premiero League, temporarily on hold, the entire nation is focused on rallying behind the national team. The Sports Minister, Mr. Amrit Mohan, is slated to attend the opening ceremony and the crucial match against Ceni, symbolizing the government's unwavering support for Crpostran's sporting endeavors.

As Crpostran embarks on this historic journey in the Independents Championship 20, the heartbeat of our nation quickens with excitement and pride. The hopes and dreams of every Crpostranian resonate with each kick, each goal, and every spirited effort on the field. To the valiant Team Crpostran, as you don our national colours and step onto the international stage, know that you carry the aspirations of a united nation.

May your path be marked by unwavering determination, teamwork, and the indomitable spirit that defines us as a people. The roar of the Talon Troops and the cheers echoing from our streets echo the undying support of our homeland underscore the collective journey of a nation that transcends borders.

As CBC Sports stands by your side, ready to capture and broadcast every triumph, every challenge, and every poignant moment, we believe in the power of your endeavor. The Crpostranian people stand united, weaving a tapestry of dreams that unfurls with every stride you take. Back Where the IAC Belongs

HUElavia welcomes the Indies once again as they host the prestigious tournament as one of the favorites!

It's that time of the year and cycle again: The Independent Associations Championship. In what has become the joint-favorite sporting competition of the United States of HUElavia, alongside the World Cup. Coming off a historic and unprecedented run at World Cup 95, Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos opted to push for the hosting rights of the 20th Independent Associations Championship. Originally, there was talks of a joint bid with Sudilia, but after seeing a lack of proper venues to be built in a timely manner, the HUElavian Football Association opted to go at it alone.

While facing strong bids from Poafmersia and Britonisea, the nation went into a frenzy when the bid was selected quite emphatically over the two bids, with 7 bids in favor of the nation in The Pacific compared to 1 for each of the opposing bids. Thus, for the first time in 44 years, the IAC would solely be held in the United States of HUElavia. After receiving many nations who opted to sign up for the tournament, a total of 40 teams would participate within the country. Thus, the HFA announced that the final format would be 40 teams split into 8 groups of 5 teams, allowing the Top 3 to advance to the knockouts. With the return of the Round-of-24 "Wild Card" Round, much like in IAC 15, this time there would be a fixed bracket to determine the winner. Thus, 104 matches were set up, with ultimately 13 venues across 12 HUElavian cities, with each venue hosting 8 matches, including at least one knockout match.

HUElavia would be in Pot 1 by default, whether they were the host or not, since they were ranked No. 6 in the IAC rankings, despite some very lackluster performances in the past three editions of the IAC with relatively early exits. They got into Group A with the likes of The Elder Lands, Drawkland, Ile de Richelieu, and Sixty-nine X. It is against Sixty-nine X that HUElavia will open up in Estadio Nacional in Curumba, as the team will travel to San Rafael, Sao Salvador and back to Curumba at Estadio Capital to close out their group stage, playing in the order of Sixty-nine X, The Elder Lands, Drawkland and Ile de Richelieu.

Ringo Honda was named the new manager of the HUElavian Football Team following the resignation of the late Lester O'Reagan, and has picked out a squad of a mix of mainly veterans but some promising youngsters to give some freshness to the roster. The HUElavian press and fans view this team as a solid selection that could make a very deep run, something that is much needed.

It's the start of a new IAC, this time in our own backyard. HUElavians have a lot to prove in this tournament, both as a team and as hosts alike, and one can only hope and pray this can be an enjoyable and fun tournament, like times before.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

The Adabian National Football Team

Demonym: Adabian (plural Adabians)
Association: Adab Football Association (AFA)

BACKGROUND
Saad Kaykali finds himself presiding over a rapidly aging staff and squad. The entire coaching staff is in their sixties or beyond; Kaykali himself is 74. A large part of the squad is in their thirties. The mounting calls for regeneration within the national team contrasted with Enlilbani Yargab and Ephraim Orlev’s repeatedly-delayed “retirement”, which has become the stuff of jokes across the country. While most observers will gladly admit that these are some of Adab’s finest-ever players, fears that younger players in the country are not being allowed a chance to shine in the national team may not be entirely unfounded.

KIT
Image

The national team's kits, designed by Ahmad Enlil (the first President of the Football Association) in 1907, are currently manufactured by Shining Sun Company, owned by Rahman Ashurbanipal, businessman and grandson of Emperor Tizqar III.

STAFF
Manager: Saad KAYKALI - Male – born January 20, 1974 (age 74)
At the peak of his power and popularity following Adab’s recent success on the international stage, some around Saad Kaykali have nevertheless noticed that the manager appears tired and worn out at times, which is not very surprising considering everything that has happened around him. But the idea of retirement has not been floated, at least not publicly. Kaykali insists he is “more than ready and excited to help carry this team forward and achieve even greater success”.

Assistant manager: Rashid ABBAS - Male – born February 15, 1987 (age 61)
Formerly a star player in the island country of Faraby, now an associated state of Adab, Abbas now finally finds himself sole assistant manager to Saad Kaykali. He is determined to do his best in this capacity, all the while refusing to discuss rumors that he has greater aspirations. Currently also manager of the under-21 team.

General coach: Yitzhak BENNETT - Male – born September 20, 1976 (age 71)
Variously described as quiet, active, calm, and attentive, Bennett is very much respected by the players, who admire his work ethic, loyalty to the national team, and willingness to listen to them.

Goalkeeping coach: Faishal AR-RASHID - Male – born August 14, 1978 (age 69)
Regarded, much like Bennett, as a stabilizing influence in the national team and respected by staff and players alike.

Physio: Hamza RIDHA - Male – born January 15, 1983 (age 65)
A longtime friend of Kaykali. Widely respected by fellow staff and players for the understated way by which he performs his job.

PLAYERS
Note: I may reveal the starting lineup and substitutes for the next match(es) in my RPs. Should I not RP or should my RP not contain any information regarding the starting lineup and substitutes, then feel free to decide my lineup. Also feel free to make substitutions. (As a rule of thumb, the first 11 players listed here are the usual starters, but this is not always the case.)

GK: 1 – Satchit CHANDRASEKAR – Male – born February 7, 2015 (age 34) – Colonial Sile (Vilita) – 0 goals
Chandrasekar has now firmly established himself as Adab’s best keeper and, if everything goes right, looks set to retain that status for many years to come. His calm, steady demeanor serves him well as the last line of defense against the team’s opponents.

LB: 2 – Tansu ALTUN - Female – born February 25, 2009 (age 39) - Mosul - 0 goals
Fondly called the "heart of the squad" by her teammates. Kind, polite, smiling, beautiful inside and out, she gets along easily with all the staff and players. Yet her soft exterior hides a hard, relentless, unyielding side to her, which shines through every time she is called to perform on the pitch.

CB: 3 – Shania ENMERKAR - Female – born January 20, 2008 (age 40) - Baghdad City - 3 goals (Vice Captain)
Widely seen as one of the leaders of the “female wave” in Adabian football, observers nevertheless agree that Enmerkar has earned her place in the team by merit, rather than merely by virtue of her gender. The other female players in the squad look up to her as their leader and spokeswoman, and it is she who often goes to Kaykali to communicate the women’s concerns and opinions.

CB: 15 – Sarrugi AKSHAK – Male – born May 29, 2016 (age 32) – Lonngeylin Coast (Vilita) – 0 goals
Made headlines with his unexpected transfer to the Vilitan League, although he has more than proven himself as a capable defender at the Under-18 and Under-21 World Cups. Now Yousif Issou’s international retirement has guaranteed him a place in the starting lineup and he is more than determined to impress.

RB: 5 – Sally THOMAS – Female – born October 5, 2015 (age 32) – Beirut – 0 goals
An instrumental member of the Di Bradini Cup 51 squad, Thomas’ continued good performance with Beirut in the Premier League has earned her an upgrade from the benches to the starting lineup in the national team.

LM: 6 – Emma ARTHUR - Female – born November 18, 2012 (age 35) - Tihon (Chromatika) - 14 goals
A representative of the Anglo-Adabian community, the second-youngest member of the squad. Widely seen as a young prodigy before maturing into one of Adab’s best midfielders. Estranged from her family, traumatized and haunted by what had happened to her and Alulim Sinmuballit, she picked herself up and has impressed many with her performance with Tihon in Chromatika.

CM: 7 – Alulim SINMUBALLIT - Male – born September 15, 2013 (age 34) – Mipojoseon (Quebec and Shingoryeo) - 14 goals
The erstwhile baby prodigy of the squad is now older and much-changed from those halcyon days when he and Emma Arthur were lighting up the midfield and causing controversy with their interfaith relationship off the pitch. Since then… a lot have changed, to put it lightly, but one thing is certain: Sinmuballit is determined to prove he still has a place in the national team.

RM: 19 – Amara EMMITA – Female – born January 19, 2016 (age 32) – Baghdad United – 11 goals
Easily runs circles around her opponents with her slick, graceful style of play. With Ephraim Orlev now in his forties and on the verge of retirement, Emmita has found her way to the starting lineup, providing a fresh reinforcement in the midfield to accompany the likes of Emma Arthur and Alulim Sinmuballit.

LAM/LW: 22 – Kastiliasu AKAPTAHA – Male – born March 27, 2014 (age 33) – Baghdad City – 106 goals
Already widely acclaimed as one of the finest strikers in Adabian football, Akaptaha is expected to lead the offense for many years to come, standing at the forefront the regeneration of the national team as the venerable Enlilbani Yargab enters his forties.

RAM/RW: 10 – Rebekah YISSAKAR - Female – born January 20, 2013 (age 33) - Adab United – 92 goals
Brash, funny, happy-go-lucky, all those words have been used to describe Rebekah Yissakar, but do not let her bubbly, excitable personality distract you from the fact that she is one of Adabian football’s best talents, with a deadly finishing touch that secured her a place at the front three along with the great Enlilbani Yargab and the energetic Kastiliasu Akaptaha.

CF: 11 – Enlilbani YARGAB - Male – born April 21, 1999 (age 49) - Baghdad City – 177 goals (Captain)
Now rapidly approaching his fifties – beyond which he has repeatedly claimed he would not continue playing – Yargab is no longer the threat that he once was, the older striker playing fewer minutes than in previous tournaments before being substituted for Nadje Barzani. With Akaptaha now deployed on the wing, Kaykali now increasingly rotates Yargab and Barzani, if not playing Barzani for entire matches; Yargab understands that the younger players such as Akaptaha and Barzani adapt more easily to the gegenpressing tactics. That Yargab is now slower and more stationary than he used to be is obvious. Nevertheless he still excels in short bursts, conserving his energy for the most pivotal moments of the match and ensuring he remains an important presence in what should be the final years of his career.

GK: 12 – Akurgal SHULGI – Male – born May 15, 2017 (age 31) – Damascus Steelers – 0 goals
Formidable young keeper whose adept, acrobatic defending dragged Adab to the final of the 14th Under-18 World Cup in Xanneria and Starcom.

LB: 13 – Adnan AL-TIKRITI – Male – born July 20, 2015 (age 32) – Damascus Steelers – 0 goals
Dogged defender who brought Adab to the final of the Di Bradini Cup 51. Flies under the radar publicity-wise but prefers to let his achievements on the pitch speak for themselves.

CB: 4 – George HADAD – Male – born February 14, 2005 (age 43) – Assur – 2 goals
Assur’s impressive performance in the Premier League lately has earned its loyal center-back a call-up to the national team, which just a few years ago no one – including the man himself – would have expected. But Hadad is nonetheless glad for this new experience so late into his career, even if he doesn’t see himself being played that much.

RB: 16 – Nadia AL-MALIKI – Female – born October 15, 2011 (age 35) – Baghdad United – 0 goals
Baghdad United’s surprisingly strong performance in the Premier League earned her a call-up to the national team. Al-Maliki’s composure in defense has been widely praised and regarded as an instrumental part in United’s unexpected domestic success.

LM: 17 – Said ANWAR – Male – born April 5, 2014 (age 34) – Beirut – 0 goals
A highlight of Beirut’s rise to the top of the Premier League, Said has now earned himself a call-up to the national team. While he is unlikely to displace Emma Arthur in the pecking order, his presence nevertheless provides a reliable backup should it become necessary for Arthur to be substituted or rotated.

CM: 18 – Naram-Sin SAMANU – Male – born March 29, 2018 (age 30) – Baghdad United – 5 goals
Commands a huge presence at midfield. Alulim Sinmuballit’s return has largely relegated Samanu once again to the benches, but with the staff afraid of overplaying the latter it seems that they will settle on a rotation between Sinmuballit and Samanu, allowing both players roughly equal time on the pitch.

CM: 26 - Kayla KASSAYA - Female - born April 14, 2016 (age 32) - Crossroads (Chromatika) - 2 goals
A late call-up to the national team, Kassaya has impressed with Crossroads in Chromatika's Red League, becoming an integral part of the side and more than justifying their faith in her. The national team's heavy workload has convinced Saad Kaykali and his staff that they need another midfielder and Kassaya is the obvious choice. While primarily a central midfielder, she is a versatile player who can also be deployed as a left and right midfielder, and even in a more advanced role as a winger in emergency situations.

RM: 8 – Ephraim ORLEV - Male – born April 18, 1999 (age 49) – Mosul – 9 goals
That Orlev’s supposed retirement has been constantly delayed is the subject of many a joke in Adab nowadays. But on his good days he is still one of the country’s best – and toughest, not to mention most experienced – midfielders, and his presence is highly valued in the locker room.

LAM/LW: 20 – Dasia KHOURY – Female – born September 15, 2017 (age 30) – Baghdad City – 2 goals
One of Adab’s breakout stars from the Di Bradini Cup 53, Khoury has settled into a starting role at Baghdad City, playing a key part as the great team tries to restore themselves back to the top of the Adabian football world. Her performance continues to impress, convincing Kaykali to call her up to the senior national team.

RAM/RW: 21 – Abdullah SARSUR – Male – born June 11, 2007 (age 30) – Yerushalayim – 0 goals
Yerushalayim’s rise to the upper echelons of the league has brought attention upon its right attacking midfielder/winger Abdullah Sarsur. Brave, unrelenting, and tricky at times, he will provide a reliable addition to the national team.

RAM/RW: 25 – Omar ABBAS – Male – born January 15, 2018 (age 30) – Mosul – 0 goals
Like Khoury he is one of Adab’s players from the Di Bradini Cup 53 that stood out the most, earning legions of fans with his speed and deadly accurate crosses, exuberant attitude on and off the pitch, and unstinting commitment to his profession.

LAM/LW: 9 – Hakim AL-AMIN - Male – born March 27, 2009 (age 39) - Damascus Steelers – 27 goals
With Jushur al-Kufa bowing out of the national team, his Damascus Steelers teammate Hakim al-Amin has been chosen to take his place – albeit it is usually a place on the benches. Al-Amin is one of Adabian football’s best strikers, gaining acclaim for his power, agility, finishing, and calmness under pressure. Everyone agrees he would have found a place in the starting lineup had it not been for the fact that the national team is already overfilled with younger talent at the front.

CF: 23 – Nadje BARZANI – Female – born March 14, 2017 (age 31) – Beirut – 61 goals
Barzani has made a name for herself as one of the Premier League’s best players and one of its most explosive forwards, alongside Kastiliasu Akaptaha, and is making an impact in the national team in a rotation with the seemingly ageless Enlilbani Yargab. But time waits for no one, and as Yargab rapidly approaches his forty-fifth birthday the indication seems to be that Barzani will soon have her spot to herself.

STADIUM
Image

Adab City Stadium, the pride and joy of Adabian football, was completed in 1940. Located in the northern part of Adab City, the stadium was able to accommodate 40,000 people at the time of its opening. Renovations in 1978 made it an all-seater stadium and expanded its capacity to 55,350. Later it increased to 75,000 following upgrades in 2009-10 and then 76,500 after another upgrade in 2019. It is currently home to the Adabian national football team and Adab City FC.

TACTICS AND FORMATION
The team will use 4-3-2-1, the "Christmas tree" formation, with an emphasis on gegenpressing – immediately working to take back possession after losing the ball and launching a quick counterattack before the opponent can take the initiative. Any opposition players with the ball will find themselves swarmed and cut off quickly. The orientation towards gegenpressing has been offered as evidence of Rashid Abbas’ increasing influence as he seeks to modernize the team in his capacity as assistant manager.

Goalkeeper Satchit Chandrasekar is secure in his position as first-choice senior team keeper. Shania Enmerkar finds herself leading the defense, her limitless energy and tenacity – which she has demonstrated both on and off the pitch – making her particularly suited for this role.

At midfield, Emma Arthur finds herself paired up with Alulim Sinmuballit and Amara Emmita. Their agility and teamwork allow them increased coverage of the pitch and domination of possession, which they skillfully use to quickly transfer the ball away from the opposing team and to the attacking trio of Kastiliasu Akaptaha, Rebekah Yissakar, and the great Enlilbani Yargab. At age 49, the country’s greatest player now largely avoids ostentatious displays of acrobatics and dribbling skills which marked his younger days in favor of simple runs towards the penalty box. In a further concession to his advancing age, Yargab is now increasingly substituted or even not played at all from time to time in favor of Barzani. Yargab or Barzani will occasionally drop back to serve as a false nine, leaving a hole in the opposition defense to be exploited by the wingers and attacking midfielders.

The Archalitian Pirates
STYLE MOD: 0

About the Pirates
Yeah, the Pirates missed out on qualification. Did anyone or could anyone have expected them to? No. A top-50
team wouldn't necessarily be likely to make the 32-team world cup at all, and with them failing to find form
until the second half of play, the result was to be expected. Nonetheless, it was horribly disappointing. The
team is currently at an all-time low. Motivation is plummeting, many NT players are electing to skip out on
friendly matches and smaller invitationals, and the team is undoubtedly way out of form. In a sense, however,
the Independent's Cup is a chance to rebuild that lost morale and start the team fresh for the World Cup. It
may take some work, but it's no longer optional at this point.

About Archalit
Archalit is a socialist state associated with The Communist Bloc. After a recent regime change, the nation has begun the radical shift from an oppressive totalitarian state with closed borders to a democratic, socialist state that follows the doctrine of Libertarian Socialism. Because of the push to participate on the international stage, the Pirate's Republic of Archalit began a rapidly developing sports program. They are notable for their unique history with Piracy and complete lack of prisons. The nation is massive and it's population is an astounding 6 billion, although the birth rate is steady and showing no signs of changing. The capital of Archalit is Charkara, the home of the Archalit Olympic Stadium, housing a capacity of ninety-five thousand people.
Roster Information
No notable changes from the World Cup, except that Terry Yang and Eloria Mizuki are not participating for undisclosed reasons.

A lot of things are changing this time around with Head of Professional Soccer Krystol Mays trying to push for World Cup Qualification this cycle around. Notably, Damien Looke has been sacked leaving an opening for the young Benjamin Vaiss to step in as substitute goalkeeper. This is a very exciting precedent that is being set as Benjamin Vaiss is just 20 years old, and with the Archalitian U20 and U18 teams notably unable to gather enough funding to enter the international tournaments (not to mention the PLF being ousted of underlying corruption tying into the massive delays that have been seen), there are very few opportunities for young footballers to participate on a grand stage.

The defenders are seeing a big shake-up as well with defenders Jacqueline Ray, Aloni Malakai, and Luka Tominiko all getting the boot and Myst Magica losing her starter position in favor of the former substitute Sophie Ishida. This also has led to new faces coming onto the Archalitian NT as substitute defenders. Essentially, what we're seeing is a total reinterpretation of the defensive line as some of the biggest weaknesses of the team last cycle were the goals conceded to stronger teams in rapid succession, leading to scores quickly spiraling out of control (as seen in Archalit vs Quebec 1 and Archalit vs Chromatika). The need for a stronger line has caused the level of overhaul that we're seeing now.

Speaking of massive levels of overhaul, none of that is being seen in the midfield. With the exception of Duke Sondas officially losing his captaincy, some substitutes being sacked, and Eloria Mizuki being officially instated as a starter in place of Ethan San, not much really changed in the midfield. In Krystol Mays' eyes, "a key component to our success has always been the midfield, and there is very little that needs to be tweaked or changed in that area of the field."

Importantly, however, one big change has been made in the forwards. Namely, Micha Sooza's retirement from the NT. As a result of this, Minato Gee has stepped up as starter and a new player has been introduced as a substitute forward. Minato Gee has been very public with her excitement for this position, as she is "finally able to match the heights her brother reached."

The Équipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football, despite how far it had come, was still not the kind of organization to carelessly spend its budget on a private jet for its players. Whenever it was time to fly to another country, the players had to catch a plane and put up with economy seating like normal people.

Every time, it meant chaos at the airport. Relié, the manager, with the help of Ägidius Heissler, his assistant manager, was trying desperately to shepherd all the players through check-in and security without losing any of them, while desperately making phone-calls to those who were late and hadn't arrived at the airport yet. The players were swapping boarding passes among themselves, trying to get seats next to their friends, and getting stuck in arguments with air line representatives who insisted that the names on the boarding passes had to match those on the passports. Some of the players' family members had come to the airport to send them off, or were also coming along to HUElavia for the IAC, and having managed to get tickets for the same flight, had joined themselves to the team's travelling party, swelling its size and making everything even more complicated.

Gerauld Firaut, the team's first-string goalie, was running uncharacteristically late--something that tended to happen when you had a eight-year-old daughter. His daughter and his wife had come along to the airport to drop him off--they'd decided that it wasn't feasible for them to come along to HUElavia for the tournament this time.

Samantha, Gerauld's wife, was unloading his suitcases from the back of their minivan--the classic soccer mom kind--while he hugged his daughter Rébecca goodbye.

"I'm still sad you're going to miss my birthday, Papa," she said, craning her neck up to reach over his shoulder as she reached up to hug him.

Gerauld knelt down to be on Rébecca's level, and brushed a strand of loose hair behind her ear. "I know, I'm sorry honey, but don't worry, you'll have a great time with Mama."

"Not even Franky's going to be there," Rébecca pouted. "It's going to be so boring."

"Remember what we promised you: next yeah, if there's a tournament during your birthday, you and Mama can come along."

Rébecca smiled. "Ok, but it better be the world cup."

"Well, it will probably be the Cup of Harmony, but we'll do our best." Gerauld pressed his daughter to his chest one more time before releasing her from his hug and standing up. Samantha had put all his bags on the curb and shut the trunk of the minivan. She stood just behind Rébecca, expectantly, and as Gerauld emerged from one embrace, she pulled him into another one. She kissed him long on the cheek.

"I'll make some room on the mantle for another trophy," she said.

Gerauld laughed. "Why do all the women in my life have such high expectations? Rébecca was just saying she expects us to be in the World Cup next year." He returned Samantha's kiss on the lips.

The couple lingered a moment in their embrace before Gerauld pulled out of it abruptly. "Well, I have a flight to catch," he sighed. "I'll miss you two."

"We'll miss you too, Papa!" said Rébecca.

"I love you, chéri," said Samantha. She gave him another quick peck before heading for the driver's door of the minivan. "Come on, Rébecca, you're already late for your soccer camp." The eight-year-old clambered into the back of the minivan and they pulled away, leaving Gerauld standing on the curb, waving.

As he stood there, a taxi pulled up, and a young man climbed out, tipped the driver, and began to breathlessly pull suitcases out of the trunk. He caught Gerauld's eye and smiled.

"Well, well, well, captain," he said with a sardonic grin, "it seems you're running a little late today."

"I should be saying the same thing to you, Franky," said Gerauld. "I was here first."

"Ah, but in my case it's not unusual to be the last to arrive," said Franky Adams, the team's center forward. "It's a bit more rare that you should be behind schedule."

But before Gerauld had a chance to defend himself, the manager, Bonheur Relié, burst out of the airport into the unloading zone. "Boys, there you are! Mon Dieu, you're going to give me a heart attack, dawdling like this. Come on, you still need to check your bags, and the flight boards in just ninety minutes!"

Franky smiled. "We can get a lot done in ninety minutes, coach."

"You haven't seen how long the line is at security," Relié huffed. He turned on his heel and strode back into the airport.

Franky turned to Gerauld. "Why is he always so tense? HUElavia's not going anywhere."

"But hopefully we are," said Gerauld. "Come on." And pulling out the handle of his suitcase, he followed his coach into the airport.

Oh no! La squadra is on some much needed vacation right now while simultaneously preparing for their upcoming domestic league games. Dudu Madeiros just quit(why? only God knows) and we have a kinder egg surprise of an announcement for him and his future endeavours. Lastly, did you guys know that Trajan Apostolov will be taking over as interim manager until a mystery candidate will be introduced next cycle?

However here come the questions of:

Who will play in the place of the players? Will it be younger talent, as usual? Will it even be humans? Will the Independents Cup take place in our time frame to begin with?

Nobody knows, but they look sentient and human-like. They are hooded, but nameless. There is a team sheet for whoever wants to work with them, their ages are unknown as are their abilities. What is known is they can play everywhere with a fluidity akin to water's.

The Hooded Council XI:

GK: Golden Hood #1
CB: Black Hood #2
CB: Black Hood #3
CB: Black Hood #4
CDM: Red Hood #5
CDM: Red Hood #6
RM: Red Hood #7
LM: Red Hood #8
RF: White Hood #9
LF: White Hood #10
CF: White Hood #11

Should any damage happen to the hooded players, it shall be nullified by next matchday.
Should any punishment be given to the hooded players, it shall be forgotten by minute 90.
Will any Juven be in HUElavia? Yes, even if the XI was all cockroaches.

The Juven national team supports and will always support a free Qusmo! Thank you for the kits, uni-q!

ROSTER FOR THE INDEPENDENTS CHAMPIONSHIP XX

ImageImage

INFORMATION

After a rogue Cenian FA member threw the Cenian national team forward in time 20 years in a vain attempt to remove archenemy Andrew Arrowsword from international contention, the Cenian football scene plummeted into disarray. The world-leading Terranean League disbanded, as did the Cenian national team itself. Many players continued plying their trade abroad, but a significant number also hung up their boots. Now that the forsaken team has returned, the Cenian FA reluctantly approved a return to World Cup competition. After a relatively successful WC campaign, a move to Sonnel, and some political changes as well, the FA has grown more receptive to broader international competition, including the Independents Association Championship after its move away from Rushmore. However, given that the FA sadly nearly forgot about its entry, a U-18 team instead of the senior team has been submitted.

While Ceni's academies produced many young footballers, given the relative lack of footballing infrastructure in Ceni, many have chosen to pursue other opportunities beyond football. But the current crop of academy-produced footballers is on the cusp of a new era in Cenian football, and Cenian NT manager Luke Longstar will be watching this tournament to refresh the NT in the future.

Manager: Image Andrew Arrowsword
Assistant Manager: Image Allison Swan

Despite some resistance from FA director John Asteem, Andrew Arrowsword took his first managerial job when Ceni entered the U-18 World Championships for the first time, winning the tournament on his first try. Arrowsword's career is extensive and well-decorated, the highlight being the UICA Champions' Cup in its 66th cycle with Real Azuris. He also won the Harlighet Ligan four times and the Sanford PREMIER League twice, although his best result in international football is only a World Cup quarterfinal. Once touted as a world-class player, Arrowsword lost much of his mojo when his teammates disappeared and international football in Ceni stopped its march forward. During that dry spell, he went on the Immortality Quest in TiSoFah with then-boyfriend Liam Pendryn and will now grace (or annoy or piss off, whatever your persuasion) the sporting realms for all time.

Arrowsword and assistant manager Allison Swan (another long-time Cenian national team stalwart) have opted to play with four defensive players for the first time in modern Cenian footballing history, recognizing the longtime defensive woes faced by a national team with only three defenders but also a number of exciting prospects at Ceni's three major footballing academies. Ceni tends to produce strong "builder" central midfielders along with playmaker attacking midfielders, and this team is no exception. As a result, Ceni usually rushes into the attack, all guns blazing, with a consequent vulnerability to quick counterattacks. Arrowsword and Swan hope that their bulked up defense will somewhat mitigate this trend and get the attack back on track, so to speak.

For scorination purposes, Ceni will play with a +3.777 style modifier.

For some background on Cenian player development: Pinnacle Project is by far the largest and most established football academy in Ceni located on the campus of the University of New Oxford; Apex Academy is a newer (and somewhat more upper-class) outfit located in the upper-class suburban town of Westgreen; Project +90 Ceni is an offshoot of the (now defunct but formerly widespread) player development academy from the Northern Sunrise Islands that focused on international clubs as a target market. It acts more as a network and broker for local teams and academies rather than a more formal club.

This should go without saying, but feel free to contact me if a foreign team is interested in signing any of these players.

Ceni does not usually play rough, but more cerebrally rather than anything else. That being said, Ellex-Mar is somewhat tempestuous, so he's the most likely to pick up a warranted yellow card or red card. Otherwise, the most likely way a Cenian will pick up a caution is arguing with a referee, probably over a very technical or minute section of the Code.

Assistant Head Coach: Jabik Henderson
General Playing Style: With a new nation, comes new strategies. While Lu intends to keep the Poafmersian attitute of relying on mistakes by the opposition to counterattack, and being aggressive in getting back the ball, he has indicated an emphasis on defence being key to the team's successes in the Cup of Harmony and beyond. Preferring a strict 4-3-3 formation with the fullbacks playing wider up the field, Lu will stick to a 4-3-3 formation for the tournament. Utilising the team's strengths in counter-attack, the team will make a focus on defending the ball and keeping the possession before catching opponents napping during their break.

Formations: 4-3-3

Fans
Poafmersian fans are crazy about football, and their loud cheers ring about in the stadiums they visit. They are very willing to disturb the peace in the area to celebrate their win after matches, so matches are best held in the afternoon or early evenings. You can spot Poafmers booking large meeting rooms in hotels, going to bars in groups. Apart from that, they do pick up after themselves, and prevent causing much trouble apart from celebrating. You can be assured, however, that they would be travelling around to support their team, so do reserve half the spots in stadiums for them because they would pack it to the brim.

Home Stadium
Poafmersia will be playing their home games at the Libira National Stadium. To accommodate a rising interest in football, there was a slight layout change and stand refurbishment being done prior to the qualifiers, and as such, the stadium capacity has been increased to 70 thousand seated pax. The stadium is located in Fiskadaha City, capital of Poafmersia. To travel to the city, direct flights are provided from many major capital cities around the world. Within Poafmersia, however, public transport, such as trains and buses, are the preferred mode of transport, and there are rail lines available between Fiskadaha and many major cities in the country.

Delte 1-0 Reçueçn
Sports Correspondent Kim Samrodd at Estadio Capital in Curumba, HUElavia for the Oswark Parish Advertiser
I won't dwell overly long on the finer details of this match (if that's alright with you, cherished reader) but certainly mention should be made of the performance of ice cream scooper and goalkeeper Aughran Lerold, who's player of the match performance in his debut for The Representatives tells you all you need to know about the balance of play in this match. Despite lining up in new manager Bonheur Relié's 'defensive pie' formation, as is typical of the Reçuecian domestic game, les licornes somehow managed to generally disrupt Seamus Awton's attacking approach and turn the tide in the opposite direction. In the end, a stirling performance from young Aughran kept the unicorns at bay. His alternative career proved metaphorically critical, as he scooped many a speculative shot out of the air, showed ice-cool composure, and emerged as the cream of the crop on the day. Henry Lightman's winning goal may have proved decisive, but Aughran Lerold wins the plaudits on match day one.

The Ballad of Pokey Fayle
2/6: Enor Perro & The Parole Board
The Head Gaoler of the Valley, Mangald Alddynum, held enough executive power to decide for himself if one of his inmates should receive special treatment - for example, having a license to go on holiday to HUElavia and play a bit of football for the Young Representatives. But there was a problem, of course, that made Gaoler Alddynum a little hesitant. Nice lad though he was, Pokey Fayle was a Screvenor. That’s right. A Screvenor - an incomer from the Screve Valley, the next valley along from the Delte. Oh dear. Those recalcitrant recidivists! Coming into our valley, taking up all the prison spaces. Coming over here, misbehaving terribly all the time in the name of cultural tradition, frightening the locals. Coming into our valley and refusing to integrate, never attending the stoa, always getting emotional. They should go back over the mountains to where they came from!

That certainly wasn’t Gaoler Alddynum’s view, him being a very progressive sort of gaoler. But there certainly was an undercurrent of feeling like that in the valley, and he had to take that into consideration. There was no denying that a disproportionate number of the prison population were Screvenors. Two out of nine (the other being Jeb C. Knevitt in the high security ‘wing’) of the current inmates were from Overtane, the hamlet now almost exclusively populated by incoming Screvenors. Concerned to give himself accountability he called a meeting of the parole board to approve his plan to allow young Pokey his trip abroad with the Young Representatives. After all, it had been a massive success for Enor Perro, a former inmate who got dispensation to go to the Baptism of Fire and… the rest is history. In fact, the World Cup winning player-head coach would be the perfect witness for the parole board, and Goaler Alddynum wrote him in Farfadillis requesting his support. He flew in on the next plane from the far faraway - Far Outer Ao, in fact, a new region on the map, even further than Outer Ao, which was a new region on the map last year if I remember correctly.

After a kickabout in the prison yard at the Auld Triangle so Enor could assess the Head Gaoler’s claim about Pokey’s skills (Jeb C. Knevitt got over-excited as usual and had to be sent back to the high security ‘wing’, letting Gaoler Alddynum down, letting the prison down, but most of all letting himself down) the Reps’ captain gave a glowing report to the parole board. Floyd ‘Pokey’ Fayle was on his way to HUElavia.

Jeb C. Knevitt got an extra month added to his prison term for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Il Scudelliano will not be covering this Independents Championship for you, instead, some independent news "sources" will have the honors as the few confused Juven fans will be following the team around in HUElavia trying to figure out how this mess of a team will play.

Several fans and news anchors have approached Trajan Apostolov looking for an answer to this mess. His answers are repetitive, but always along the lines of.

"The council wants la squadra and other Juven players to rest."

"The hooded players could potentially be professionals, or have professional background, you will never know."

"No, I refuse to wear the hoodies the same way that my players do. I am the current manager and I am willing to take the brunt of the damage. This is a temporary job anyway, but to finish this campaign respectfully is the way to go."

Hooded Team defeat Sajnur 4-0:

There is no limit to the oddity of the Independents Cup, from the world champions disrespecting the competition and sending kids, the Cenian federation almost missing the deadline and also resorting to sending kids, the Delaclav federation responding the the world champions' disrespect by not sending a full strength squad up to us sending 11 hooded people(?) and Sajnur sending 11 nameless people(?) on the pitch. Also there are some sorts of different fey(?) somewhere down the line, apparently from(or not really from but somewhat connected to) Sonnel who are the exact opposite, OLD!

To avoid confusion, the numbers next to the players are their jersey numbers and not their Hood numbers as they have real names which we cannot hear on the pitch, nor can their opponents(or even Juven people alike) decipher their interesting language. It is as if Juva and Acis have given them the gift of secret communication and language creation.

What is most interesting about this team is that the players switch positions every few minutes, which makes their announced positions redundant as well as their hood colors only a distraction. Other interesting facts include their aptitude when it comes to playing the game, playing with a Pomenienze as done by la squadra itself. However, none of them seem to be playing like a familiar player.

The Sajnurian team entered the pitch confused while the hooded squadra was playing with the same confidence or even cockiness of the original squadra. Red Hood #6 and White Hood #11 provided several glimpses of teamplay which resulted in the former scoring the first goal not even five minutes into the game. With the score at 1-0, the hooded squadra would start to implement its fluid gameplay. Every 10 minutes, the entire lineup would be shuffled in a random order. This forced the Sajnurians all the back, since they could not mark any specific players. A long ball by Black Hood #2 would see Red Hood #7 try their luck from the 25-meter mark, which resulted in yet another goal as the Sajnurian goalkeeper would dive but to no avail. With a 2-0 advantadge at half-time, nobody could understand how they could not only play football but be pretty good at it as well.

The scariest part about this team is that despite playing with emotion, none of the goals were celebrated. The players would just return in their positions, nobody could see their faces as their hoodies would bring just enough shade to cover their characteristics. Apostolov would look intently at his players most of the time, with a worried look on his face, even though they were dominant. No manager has looked this pale since De Casio.

Entering into the final half of the game, the hooded players entered the pitch looking for blood. Harsh tackles brought them at odds with the Sajnurian players for the better part of the remainder of the game. However, the referee seemed to be ignoring those, sometimes even afraid to act. A Golden Hood cross inside the field would find Black Hood #3, who would head it to White Hood #11 with the latter in turn scoring the volley to make it 3-0. At this point, the Sajnurians would quit while the hooded squadra would play passes to each other to keep possession. The pressure provided would not be enough, eventually Red Hood #5 would score a screamer from long distance to make it 4-0. Only then would some semblance of human emotion be shown as the players would celebrate their deserved victory.

The Juven fans would be in disbelief however, as they could not believe what they just watched. Was that really a hooded team? Was it an elaborate scheme, a joke even? Nobody could tell, not even Apostolov.

Start of a campaign, The 14 Stars faces off against Saterun

I've won titles....awards and aquired fame across my country and even beyond its borders but nothing of that all matters now.
It all comes down to this the one moment we've been waiting for many years now.
I put on my shirt, my old number on it aswell as my last name and i feel a little nostalgic as i've never thought i'd ever see this again but dreams aren't just dreams if you keep chasing them.

''Hey Valerian, are you ready to kick those rookies back home?'' That was Adam Kayden, the 53 year old defender had the same feeling they had played together in world cup 88 and now would also play their last match together.

''Yeah Adam, i'm more ready then i've ever been as we have worked hard to get here and now its up to us to make it count.''

Starting line-up

Bressing
Kayden
Hassan
Saturn
Salisbury
Corson
Valerian
Mustafir
Karazhan
Flare
Müller

Expected Saterun line-up

The line-up Starian media expect them to field, in reality this can change.

GK|Ralf Abiatti #1
RB|Fabian Cruz #14
CB|Cipriano Dalca #4
CB|Johnothan Post #5
LB|Avishai Demare #18
LM|Hans-Jürgen Becker #13 Captain
LCM|Andrei Coiro #8
RCM|Glenn Lundquist #15
RM|Ndidi Tamaro #8
LF|Thiago Esparza #9
RF|Maksymilian Bates #11

Right before the game

As they see a team many years younger then themselves instead of the friendly welcome exchanges they line-up focused on their entrance in the stadium before the captain Maximillian Flare walks past them.
As he walks forward all players opponent or teammate could feel that he was a player of exceptional status and despite he himself not feeling that way he was nationally and internationally recognized as the best Starsian player to have been playing in the world cup.

Walking into the stadium this once again becomes very clear as thousands of fans chant his name and those of other stars like Valerian and Saturn making their return to the field for one last time before definitive retirement.
As the national anthems were played the veterans sang with it and shook the hands of their opponents wishing them a good match and it would certainly prove to be an interesting match as both teams had certain experience.
Valerian was the only change in the regular line-up as Rockwell had insisted he played the opening game, without Valerian this team and this opportunity for any of them would have been fairly impossible.
For the last time a generation known as the ''Pioneers'' the starting squad of Multiverse football for our country would get ready and kick off an exciting game from the get go as they quickly passed the ball around.

They remembered the words of Horus their coach very well.

''In the past you were fast, strong and really skilled but you have to be honest to yourself and with the years passed none of you has that level anymore.
All of you need to look for new opportunities and new styles, ones that you never realized possible but can help you now, its not about how you beat them but about the fact you can actually beat them.
Use your years of experience, its an advantage that they don't have even their veterans have never seen the game from other perspectives like you have as coach or other staff members already.
During the game find a way that works for you guys and stick with it, be confident in your abilities.''

And they are because in the first minutes the quick short passing of the Starsian veterans catches the opponent off guard as they do not realize or understand the kind of strategy the older players use.
A high cross nearly makes Flare capable of heading the ball but the opposing goalkeeper is quick and catches the ball, not in possesion the strategy is harder as it takes power and effort to steal the ball or tackle an opponent, this results in the first counter becoming deadly dangerous but Bressing with her foot kicks it out of bounds for a corner kick.
This corner kick is headed away by Kayden who makes a good header to the midfielders with Valerian waiting a moment for the rest to catch up before making a back pass so they can build up over the left side.
This new way of back and forward passing rather then horizontal or diagonal passes between players is also a new strategy which results in two chances in front of the goal for Flare and Müller but both of them get blocked by an exceptionally strong goalkeeper.

This is how the game went quite back and forth, where people may have expected a one-sided game the veterans had undegone each a personal fitness and training process to get in shape for this tournament, on top of that regular team activities for the team chemistry added to the good connection within this older team.
With good preparation someone can go a long way, even if this person is over 50 years old although it would not last, in the 41st minute the game was paused for a moment as the 56 year old Müller sat on the ground and needed medical assistance, while his injury wasn't a major one he could not finish the match and this was the other side of this team.
Being older it meant being more vulnerable to injuries, even with all the fitness and training they did you couldn't prevent such injuries or anything within a match and an early substitution was needed here to make up for the lost player.

Replacing him was a younger man, a 43 year old Rojan Carerez who had been also on the world cup 88 squad but voluntarily had made room for younger players after and had won domestic championships and had coaching experience.
For him aswell playing in a major tournament like the IAC was something really big, he knew Müller was first choice because he would never last a full match but still going out like this wasn't really fun.

Not long after the referee gave the signal for halftime, no one so far had managed to score despite both teams having a good chance to score.

In the second half also Karazhan the other 56 year old was substituted, all veterans knew those two simply did not last a full match and all of them had agreed to give them their game time as much as possible.
Besides teammates all of these players in this team were friends, kind of like an extended family and as Thomas Dunwell replaced him a the squads average age dropped further but still far ahead of the Saterun rookies.
They called all of them rookies even despite some of that team being in their 30s aswell, the youngest player on the Starsian team was almost hitting the 40 years already and that average age between 40 and 50 was normal on this team.

In the second half the back and forth game continued, Saterun started getting the upper hand more because their physical supriority but in possesion the Starsian dominated the Saterun team.
Outside possesion Saterun was the dominant team, both of the team again gained multiple chances but none of them seemed able to score Flare coming the closest at the crossbar after which the goalkeeper caught it, the game would go on with the Starsians getting more defensive overtime bringing in Nicolay Moon for Valerian in their last substitution which added an extra defender.

The game ended without either team being able to score thus a draw the fans of the Starsians were seemingly happy as they were concerned about how their veterans would hold up against the younger teams.
But against the top team in their group a draw was a result to be positive about, they had shown that even against a stronger opponent they could hold themselves pretty good and it gave hope for the remaining matches they had to play.

Meanwhile in the 14 Stars

''Why are they playing and not us its so unfair, we were supposed to play there and gain experience.
They already had the chance to play decades what is the point of a national team if we can't even play tournaments!'' Some of the young players had been complaining the entire match and Kira could not say they were wrong.
Even for her it felt weird not playing a major tournament and it would not be good for the development of these young players either, but a veteran like her who earned her stripes had the duty to lead her own team too.

''Enough of that, it is what it is and do not forget they beat players younger and perhaps better then all of you.
I find it very saddening aswell but we have to focus on world cup 96 where we need to prove ourselves if we let a minor setback get to us what are you guys gonna do when a major team puts you 3 goals down?''

All of them were silenced with that, Kira smiled friendly they knew Kira had been furious about not being selected for that team either especially since her father had helped creating that team and she had played with many of them.
Kira was the only player in this room who had been with this group since world cup 88 where she made her debut aged 18, ever since she had been the steadfast leader of the team and with reason.
But realizing her journey was also coming to an end she was looking for new leaders, new stars and these situations were what set a real leader apart from their counterparts.
