Welcome to the inaugural edition of the International Confederations Cup. This is the inaugural edition, where only the invited participants may post their rosters and roleplays. Scores will also be posted in this thread by the host.

The eight participants will be separated into two groups. Each nation will play every other nation in its group twice, once at home and once away. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams in each group will proceed to the semi-finals. The third and fourth-placed teams in each group will be matched up against each other in a placement match. The winners of the two semi-finals will proceed to the final, while the losers will proceed to the third-placed playoff.

All teams will start with a rank of 0. There will be no roster penalty in this tournament.

Cutoffs will be at 1400 UTC unless otherwise stated. Due to the small nature of this tournament, I will be open to giving extensions.

This is not an exhaustive list. I will not be enforcing any setting of "Choose my scorers = N" unless there is a valid IC reason for doing so. Please also indicate a style modifier, between -5 (defensive) and +5 (aggressive) clearly in your roster. If I cannot find one within a roster and receive no response to any clarifications I may send, I will presume you are using a 0 modifier.

The tiebreakers in all situations are Points > GD > H2H > H2H GD > IC coin flip (scorinated match based on RP bonus only, draws off). Games will be scored with the SQIS formula. Home advantage will be turned on in the group stages, and off in the knockouts.

MD1/2 — WE ALL HAD TO START SOMEWHERE: You've earned an invitation to this tournament through winning a recognised major honour. Good on you! But what about your first tournament win? Or even your first win? Talk about your nation's first foray into organised sport, whether in the distant past or in a competition of this world. Did your first win come at the end of a twenty-game losing streak? Or did luck shine on you and you started winning off the bat? The gritty beginnings — that's what I want to hear about.

Non-sports version: Does your nation have a founding myth or mythos? Where do the people in your country come from? Have they been here since time immemorial, or are they sackers and salvagers who decided to abandon the nomadic lifestyle?

MD3/4 — IT'S ABOUT DRIVE, IT'S ABOUT POWER: Supporters are one of the main ways that football makes money. If anything, how much a given sporting institution can squeeze out of its fans often determines whether said sporting institution succeeds or not. But sometimes the fans strike back; they clench power with their own two hands. How powerful are sports fans in your nation? Are their views respected? Do they own their clubs? What are the rules and history of fan ownership in your country? Or are fans just generally treated like an ATM machine, there to provide a base of capital for your sporting clubs

Non-sporting version: A source of power is almost as important to the well-running to the nation as a functioning government. How does your country get its power? Burning coal? Oil? Nuclear power plants? The crash of running water? Renewables? Have fossil fuels been phased out in your country, or is your country still a massive gas guzzler?

MD5/6 — WHAT'S ON A KIT?: Shirt sponsors are a somewhat-new yet all-too-ubiquitous part of the modern game, as the modern game seeks to squeeze revenue out of every square inch of empty space it can find. But the companies on those shirts are often a signifier of how things are going. Big, multi-mega-corporation? Things might be going well. Local business or something that's less than noteworthy? Might be signs of tougher times ahead. Some shirt sponsors are associated with periods of success, too. Have there been any shirt sponsors that are particularly memorable? Who are they?

Non-sporting versions: Let's talk consumer goods, that halcyon indicator of what modernity is. Who are the biggest manufacturers of consumer goods in your nation? Does your country have any particularly internationally-renowned brands, or particularly notorious brands? What do they make? How did they achieve their market-leading position? Is there any particular consumer good that signifies "modernity" in your nation? A TV, perhaps? Or a microwave oven?

Scores of them have jumped ship for higher wages, better chances at winning competitions...and their personal lives can be laced with occasionally-lurid personal scandals. But on the pitch, they're a team. Or so we think. Has your country ever had any players whose individual brilliance outshone their team-mates so brightly? Or players who behaved one way on the pitch, and completely another off it? Have there been any incidents where your players have nearly come to blow on the pitch? The Macaricas in the forty-fourth Copa Rushmori represented a rare case of a football team living up to its hype. What was hyped as the "best Azurean team ever" got the best Azurean showing ever in the Copa Rushmori and brought home the first trophy in the islands' history. With a young core returning from the Copa, the expectations for this group are sky-high in the World Cup, especially after missing qualification for WC94. AJ Zanetti remains at the helm despite a change of scenery back in Quebec, moving from Pio Mendonca's CSKA Quebec to Tobias M'bah-Pinho's St. John's Arsenal.

Perhaps because of the drama back home, Zanetti has elected to retain the same 23 for qualification, though the team's shape on the field remains to be seen. Ambrosio Gomez showed in Naixi why he is the top-choice keeper going forward, and either Leitao or Sapeteiro is prepared to back him up if he has an off day. M'bah-Pinho, brother of Quebec international Oberon, proved an effective pairing with Adalberto Furtado for the CR, though centerback depth is still a questionmark; the two starters played every minute of the CR. Tomás Delgado was the only Macarica not to see the field in Naixi, and or Miguel Gontijo was fortunate to avoid playing his secondary position.

The fullback position seems to be in greater flux, as Lo Ferraz saw more action than expected in Naixi, bombing forward alongside the decade-plus mainstay Amilcar Branco, in contrast to the more conservative play of Heitor "Bandicoot" Soares. Marcelinho Costa is as serviceable a backup as ever and will likely see starter minutes down the stretch of qualification.

The midfield reflects the greatest rotation since last year's Cup of Harmony, with the aforementioned Gontijo joining two Eura-based brawlers, SIlver League POTY Emmanuel Bastos and Mountainside man Vasco Cardoso. That two out of three starting midfielders also play elsewhere on the pitch doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but at the same time any configuration that allows Os Dos Vascos on the field at the same time is probably worth a sniff. Expect Telmo Andrade and Salvador d'Cruz to see the field regularly, especially if Gontijo gets pressed into service as a centerback. Gontijo should be expected to anchor the midfield to allow Cardoso to get forward and provide ball service to the embarassment of riches the Macaricas have at striker.

The midfield was the biggest question mark going into Naixi, and it remains such, though the questions are different. Eura-based forward Vasco Cardoso made attacking mid look like his natural position, supported by another Eura-based midfielder in Emmanuel Bastos. The third midfield position was a revolving door of young Azurean talent, though Miguel Gontijo got the lion's share of the starts. Florencio was a surprise addition to the Copa squad and remains a wildcard in qualifying, when more may be asked of him.

Much like the midfield, the strikers' pecking order solidified in the playoff rounds of the Copa Rushmori. Gouveia-Mendonca-Silveira remained the first-choice lineup, while Anselmo Santos was typically first off the bench. Magalhaes and Ventura saw the field irregularly, mostly in late-game situations or as subs for injured players. Expect more of the same, with Santos possibly starting in less-critical games to give rest to the stalwarts.

OOC: Sorry for the double post, but the prompt really got ahold of me
The origin of the chivalric order known as the Knights of St. Simon is obscure, with the last known records of their founding having been destroyed with the burning of the original Basílica de Sao Simon three hundred years ago during the Aho Uprising by forces loyal to Reinaldo Silva. What is known is that when the Knights arrived on the heretofore uninhabited Azure Islands, between six and seven hundred years before King Manuel was crowned, they were a formidable military force consisting of five hundred sworn knights and thousands of fighters, plus an unknown number of civilians employed by the Knights in various capacities. They were also in possession of a sizable fleet of ocean-going ships that ferried them to and from their various adventures.

Of note, the Knights never required their brothers to remain unmarried, and caring for the knights’ families proved to be a defining feature of the order. This appears to have been the reason, or at least the primary motivation, that the order decided to settle the Azure Islands, starting with the island of Portelo and slowly expanding to the others over the course of generations. As the knights planted crops and began to trade with their neighbors, the economic necessity of reaving diminished, and the order’s hierarchy became steadily more interested in extracting taxes from the peasant farms that had sprung up throughout the archipelago than in extracting tribute from foreign lands; in other words, the Knights began to act more like a nation than a chivalric order.

The island of Portelo was the Knights’ military headquarters; little more than a rocky outcropping, it had deep artesian wells under the surface and a protected harbor that made it an ideal base for exploring and reaving the nearby coast. Each island had a knight charged as its protector, who had general authority over other knights and lay members in order to keep the peace. Around six hundred fifty years before King Manuel was crowned, the knight known as Sebastien rose to be the protector of Portelo, and some ten years later he declared himself King of the Azure Islands, complete with a coronation ceremony at the chapel on Portelo. The immediate response to Sebastien’s declaration is lost to history, but may have been indifference, as little would have changed for the knights and their serfs on the outlying islands. The only recorded resistance came from Diego Silva, protector of Aho, which had grown into the wealthiest and most cosmopolitan of the Azurean islands.

Legend says Diego’s supporters were prepared to go to war for the Azurean crown, but he declined, knowing a war against the rest of the Azurean islands would be unwinnable and would ruin the island for generations. Instead, he challenged Sebastien to a one-on-one duel, which he lost. Sebastien di Portelo ruled unchallenged as King of the Azurean Islands for the rest of his life, passing the crown to his son, whom he named Diego after his rival. The di Portelo Dynasty became the basis for the modern Azurean state; the Azurean flag quarters gold and light blue, which Sebastien adopted as his family colors, and the national animal, the raton grande or bandicoot, was chosen by Sebastien as his heraldic symbol because there are no game animals on the Azurean islands.

The tradition of noble rivalry established by Sebastien and Diego has had a profound impact on Azurean culture up to the modern day, to the point that two young men who quarrel frequently but remain friends are said to be “como Sebastien e Diego.” One recent example of such a rivalry was between Paul Mathias Gonsalvez, better known as “Paulinho”, and Mario Borges, two of the greatest footballers during the reign of Reinaldo I and II and the O Interregno period. Paulinho played for Natal, at the time the dominant club on Aho, while Mario played for Cidadela, the military’s representative team which played in Portelo. Besides the geographic split and the fact that Paulinho was an attacking midfielder while Borges was a defender, there was a social dimension to their rivalry; Borges was a naval officer, a classic member of the bourgeoisie, while Paulinho’s parents were subsistence farmers in what was then a rural part of Aho.

The rivals played each other for no fewer than eight All-Islands Championships, ending only when Paulinho retired to take up coaching eight years into O Interregno. His relationship with Borges was demonstrated when he was lured away from his boyhood club, Natal, to coach the more lucrative Cidadela side, where he won fifteen consecutive Liga Portelo championships and three All-Islands Championships, which had by then evolved from a two-horse race between the Aho and Portelo champions to a bona fide tossup every year.

While Paulinho took up coaching, Borges leveraged his military connections to work his way into the government under the Gang of Seven, becoming Minister of Culture and the face of the oligarchy. Despite his association with the wildly unpopular Gang of Seven, Borges remained popular by advocating reform and openness within the government, deftly toeing the line between being too valuable to remove and too subversive to keep. After the ousted King Reinaldo II died in exile, a decade of secret negotiations followed between Reinaldo’s successor, Queen Abigail, and the Gang of Seven. The goal of these negotiations was a peaceful transition of power back to the monarchy that also guaranteed the Gang of Seven a soft landing in exile and immunity from prosecution for their crimes. As a government minister who nevertheless had the will of the people on his side, Mario Borges was a critical part of these negotiations and was chosen as interim prime minister during the transition and later elected prime minister in his own right in the country’s first general election.

Borges knew upon taking the mantle of prime minister that he would need an early win, something to rally the populace around and get them past the early growing pains of a reinstated monarchy. As Minister of Culture, he had repeatedly been refused by the Gang of Seven when he’d floated the idea of standing up a national football team to represent Cabo Azure in competition in Rushmore and further afield; now as prime minister, he had the political capital, but money was going to be tight. With the majority of the national treasury tied up in transition costs, Borges had to build a football team on a shoestring. Players at that time were amateurs who relied on sponsorships to pay their bills during the season and so were happy to expand the reach of their personal brands; travel costs and other overhead would be covered by national team sponsors, but staff was going to be a problem. With nowhere else to turn, Borges made a call to Paulinho, who had been retired ten years from coaching, and asked him to return to coach the national team for a nominal fee; according to legend, Paulinho told him to keep the fee and spend it on footballs.

The Macaricas, named after a popular national beer, took the field for the first time in the thirty-eight Copa Rushmori, where they were unceremoniously eliminated by a 5-1 loss to Cassadaigua in the third match of the group stage. Even so, the outing was considered a success, and the Azureans’ 1-0 win over Oberour Ar Moro is still considered a national accomplishment on par with the removal of the Gang of Seven. Paulinho successfully converted that success into a podium finish in the seventy-sixth Baptism of Fire, and by the time of his passing prior to the start of World Cup 93 qualifying, Cabo Azure was a genuine regional powerhouse with aspirations at the World Cup level.

It's OK, We Don't Think Our Coach Has Gone Crazy

Daryl Lamerein has been the only coach Milchamian football has known since the end of the Isolation. He has also, without a doubt, been the most successful coach Milchama has had since 40s and greatest local Milchamian coach of all time (remember that many of our great teams were coached by foreigners). After the Warriors failure to qualify for World Cup 94 everybody expected either a nice resignation from Lamerein, or, at least, a well attended retirement party. Instead, the MFA, in their infinite laziness, kept him on for the Cup of Harmony and the Warriors made the finals only to be undone by some frankly heinous cheating from The Holy Empire. Everybody agreed that it wasn't Lamerein's fault that the opponent's goalie was literally a dragon bigger than the goal so Milchama created a fake Cup gave it to the Warriors and kept Lamerein.

Since the failure of World Cup 94, Lamerein, who remember, was never a pro soccer player and was an accountant who started a part time gig at a 3rd division club before becoming manager because he pissed off too many football people by thinking, started to read. And he read a lot of physics books, it started with soccer physics but soon moved into rolling, then he read Confucius and the Ancient Greeks, adopted their view of history as essentially cyclical and a rotation and now he believes that the most important force in the universe is rotation. Lamerein refuses to walk as he only either cartwheels or somersaults everywhere as it keeps him in rotation. He did say that he would walk during practice and games to be able to more easily make on field adjustments but it's still disconcerting. Moreover, this concept of rotation he has applied more fully to the Milchama Warriors. Instead of having one team, which is too static, he has decided to have two teams. A home team, which only plays road games, and a road team, which only plays home games. So, without further ado, we present the two teams of Milchama Warriors. The home team, of course, are the subs in the road teams games and vice versa.

Coach: Daryl Lamerein. Seriously, you should already know that. We spent the last like 2 or 3 paragraphs on the idiosyncrasies of this guy. Come on now!
Anyway, here's his backstory: Lamarein was pro in something other than sports, namely an accountant, when he was asked to take over the finances of Mongol FC, then a third division side. After getting the finances in order he also noticed they tended to make more money and play better if they used different tactics with different players. He eventually convinced the GM to let him try that for one game. They won 6-0. They did it the next game, they won 6-2. Lamarein was then made coach of the Mongols where he led them to straight promotions. Then people got angry at him and had him manage the national team assuming that he would get paid for a do nothing job. Then the Isolation ended and now he's doing things. Now a minor legend and somebody who everybody looks up to for coaching advice in Milchama. We also think he's gone crazy. We'll find out.

Lamerein plays the traditional Milchamian 3-3-4 with a +3 modifier. This will be the same with both the home and road team.
Milchama plays most of their games at the National Stadium (אצטדיון לאומי) in Alexandria. 110,000 seats.

GK: Morc Entersher - New kid on the block. His exploits for Chaialim in the league have become the stuff of legend. Takes the job over a retired Miles Inthracam.
D: Eric Hexidevorah - Not half of something but all of something. Eric is a great outside defender able to play on both wings.
D: Dervan Kelliers CB - One of the new young CBs that has risen through the ranks in Milchama. Many compare him to Wilson as young'un. Expect him to start very soon.
D: Theo Elkenstall - LB. Natural left footer known for his good crosses.
M: Kelly Filimitov - LM - Lefty dead ball specialist. Also very good at crosses.
M: Cal Kamet CM - The rare Milchamian attacking mid. Nobody really knows what to do with Kemet because they play in all sorts of weird spaces that don't traditionally exist in Milchama. Has led to them leading the goal scoring 2 of the last 3 years in the New Babylon league. They/them.
M: Amy Cekarn - RM - Defensive mid. With a new defense and midfield is in the team to provide more defensive spine.
F: Millie Kouriea - LF - Plays with Floren at club level. Her ability to link up with him on offense has led to mini revival for Floren in club football so they figured why not put her on the national team as well? It worked out so well that Floren is now on the bench and Kouriea is still in the starting lineup.
F: Avi Benbemore - CF/LF - He's the sephardic Avi Belmowitz, which makes him the Sephardic Alan Belmore. He will, probably, score all the goals.
F: Barry Thomas - Despite the generic name has been unstoppable in both the Alexandrian and New Babylonian league. His double golden boot and a silver boot in the Judaean league made him an obvious pick for the team.
F: Abby Goldshires - Outside striker who is known for her technical vision and skill. Has matured enough to finally make a starting lineup.

The Road Team (they only start at home)
GK: Fletcher Archman - The long line of Fletcher back up keepers finally seemed to be over but then a young prospect, somebody who nobody had heard of, was accidentally selected for Great Alexandria and did well. So he's here now.
D: LaDonte Carter - Also, Milchama's old second string keeper retired and the third string keeper became a left back. Now Carter plays a different kind of defense.
D: Clara Tresa - For a Milchamian defender has surprisingly good dribbling skills. Her offensive production though is stopped by her hard tackles.
D: Gal Dale - A wave of enthusiasm has been met with her inclusion in the national team. We are ready and not worthy for such a great defender.
M: David Wongstein - Started as a Discord joke. Is actually Milchama's most exciting midfield prospect. Very excited to see him get his first starts in this tournament.
M:Lars Ben Johnson - Despite the confused name, he is not a confusing player. A classic box to box midfielder who provides spine to the midfield while also ranging forward when he wants to.
F: Yoni Flominon - Incredible passing skills has led to multiple assist titles in the Karakorum League for Flominon. Moved up to Alexandria and immediately got a starting position for Jasper's Creepers.
F: Len Fleming - Very tall striker. His booming headers have become legendary. His decent movement also puts him in a good position to score some goals well. The guy Milchama go to when they need to lump it up the field.
F: Dani Kaleten - The lighting to Fleming's thunder. Very fast player who is very technical and very good at moving to get open. The lanes he creates are becoming legendary.
F: Colm Interlasskoti - RF - Was once Milchama's greatest prospect. Now an old vet on probably his last World Cup. They/them pronouns.

Team mentality:

Huayramarcans, per se, are bold and quite diverse between the team due to the regional contrasts among them: You might note surnames such as: Condori, Mamani, Quispe, Sayritupac, etc. Those are Serrano surnames. Serranos as such are quite shy people with non-serranos, between them, great footballing societies may be made due to their complete understanding of each other, they are quite homogenous on how they act and may be predictable for each other. But, for the non-expert eye, Serranos are one on their kind and could result unpredictable for them, since they love to do things at fast pace between them, without doubt one could send 60 meters cross with complete confidence that they might find their teammate, with this, you can notice that Serranos are overconfident on themselves and somewhat dubious with Costeños and Selváticos. Other characteristic of Serranos is that they are quite easy to intimidate, being shy and short-sized doesn’t helps, but in that situation, they might opt to act even better than they do for the sake of shutting your mouth.

Costeños and Selváticos (jungle) in the other hand are confident with everybody, even if they might not receive the same treatment by their Serrano fellows. Those two groups conform the rest of the team and might do good societies on field, declining the quality of their chemistry when trying to connect with Serranos, due to the latter shy mood. Physically speaking, Costeño and Selváticos are people who boast being the tallest overall in the team.

Chemistry building has been somewhat complicated for this team during the five cycles they have competed together but has been a rather successful process that consolidated with the 79^th Cup of Harmony, the 88 ^th and 89 ^th World Qup Qualifiers, as they have been together as glue through high and lows. The regional divides topic is now outdated as the players have grown up significantly and have harnessed teamwork.

Although they work nicely as a team, there’s a moment when they can’t do that and that moment is when they have the goal in their sights, when they have a chance to score, they try to do their best to do it by themselves, even if that means avoid passing the ball to a better placed teammate, individualities have been surging from nowhere and this issue has costed valuable results for the team. This was combated successfully by Caicedo and Zelaya and Blâás Âgínsôgnó plans to continue in said route.

To finish with this part, Huayramarca is that kind of team that may be overconfident sometimes, but if you press them to their limits, they might react in unsuspected ways, be those positive or negative for their interests, you don’t know what would happen in the Serrano, Costeño or Selvático mindset. As they do on the local league, they might try to do some antics to their rivals, be it: providing beer instead of water to their rivals, or the classiest one, giving distillated “ayahuasca” (vodka-like alcohol) and pass it like water and make their rivals be drunk, taking advantage of their influence to beat the rival team. Nico was a bus driver until the last three weeks prior to WC 85 Qualifiers, when he decided to enter to the amateur football world of Huayramarca, he was in luck that Caicedo watched him plat and fell in love on how he performed. Allauca is spontaneous and may not like to do training, he is a fast-moving and extremely practical (hates theories) defensive mid, that may mutate to a second creative mid with Ian Mamani and has also a decent capability to score goals while going to attack. After having a discrete performance in Chromatika, now he moves to Québec's Winnipeg United, where he expects to keep up the tone as he does with the National Team.

N°7 - Abraham Mendoza - LF - 30 yrs - Team: Pyathora Mariners

- Height: 1.63 mts - Caps: 294 - Goals: 37

Nicknamed “El Ingeniero” The smallest of the entire team, Mendoza is a mentally strong individual who loves to work hard, play hard and be a strong leader inside the team in terms of order. A competent but realistic player who may not be spectacular while playing on the wings, but pragmatical and effective when achieving his purposes. On his personal life he is the best positioned of all the group, since he just graduated in Industrial Engineering at the Huayramarcan Technical University with a deserved "summa cum laude", so no matter what happens, he could get a decent job position in any Huayramarcan enterprise to optimize their processes. You might notice how Abraham's personal discipline is, and this is shown even to football, where he tries to compliment weaknesses that he may have as his height, but he tries to compensate with decent body-building routines. He might not be a prolific scorer for the standards of a winger, but he has at least a 35% of assists for the total of Huayramarcan goals scored during the Qualifiers, hence, somebody to take care of.

N°21 - Gabriel Sayritupac - RF - 30 yrs - Team: Perce Town

Sayri as he's known by many people in his native Tulcán (near the Québécois-Huayramarcan border) is an artistic person in all senses of his life. Usually, he makes a living by painting portraits of people visiting the Chimborazo National Forest Reserve, sometimes working on a local brewery, or doing football for fun. He doesn't stands being alone and might be that easy-going Serrano (which is weird, if we come to think it). He has genetic problems that makes him quite prone to injuries, and when those occur, Sayri decides to get inebriated to let frustration go away. An artistical winger, lover of uncertainty and mess that makes him be either the best or cause problems to settle where he plays. As of now, he has managed to find its way on football, winning a IFCF Champions’ League with Athletik Thessia, some championships in Mytanija and now being in Audioslavia, closer to home, but eager to win more.

A decently heighted Costeño as forward is always a neat solution for your goal needs, even more if you consider that he ages like wine; that, combined with good pace, stride, and physic abilities, makes Tello is what every team may need for up front. He's factual since he studied Philosophy at the University of Cumbayá, a committed and self-confident man who might be extremely traditional to his striker role, he might seek for space to go front, use his strength and move towards the goal. Tello is a strong leader among the shadows of the Huayramarcan national team, an outgoing and straight-forward person that could sometimes aggressive since he's prone to be insensitive. Despite that he is the Legend of the team, the striker that is at the right place and moment to push the ball against the net, something that has helped him retain his position as stellar striker of Metropolis Alligators in the Valladar Liga-1.

I'm a pretty normal guy. I do two weird things. This roster is one of them. Do not ask what the other one is.

This is a team of Græntfjallers (or Graintfjallers if you can't do the æ). They're more commonly known by the nickname of Snow Wolves, though. Yes, it's a stupid nickname, but after a World Cup, Copa Rushmori, and two Eagl'e's' Cup titles, it's what we're sticking with.

Græntfjallers usually go by their given names but surnames can be used. Those who vary from the country's patronymic naming tradition have been marked. Players with -dóttir names are women; if you find this immersion breaking you can soft ignore their presence, but I won't be putting out alternative teams to face men-only sides.

The Snow Wolves play in a pretty snazzy blue-and-white kit (designed by Tikariot) or a much less snazzy alternate white-and-blue "kit" (designed by me, no shit).

The team is physically fit and strong. Most players play at a reasonably high level (except those based domestically, as the GPL is currently in the doldrums). Players are fair professionals, not given to histrionics, not above the odd tactical foul either.

The Snow Wolves are coached by the legendary Pasargan striker Ingþór Auðbjörnsson, colloquially known as "Thor". Having been in charge for three cycles, his contract has been extended for this World Cup cycle but no further. Given he's taken the team to two World Cup semifinals and two Copa Rushmori finals, KG might be judged a little ungrateful to his service. Thor has brought a more attacking style to the once rather defensive set-up and cultivated a new set of young strikers.

The standard formation being used here sets up as a classic 4-4-2 but with both wing-backs in aggressive mood and with a true defensive midfielder, can become more of a 3-5-2.

Set-pieces tend to be taken by Kæja, or occasionally Hermione or Sara V. Járngrímur is a good penalty taker. Throw-ins generally come from the full-backs.

Home arena: National High Performance Sports Center, Græntfjaller Multinesia

For Græntfjaller ~~Eagl’e’s’ Cup~~ Confederations Cup teams, it has become a tradition for all ‘home’ games to be played at the National High Performance Sports Center. This obviates any home advantage and may in fact disadvantage Græntfjaller players who have previously struggled in tropical conditions, but there is a clear secondary aim of gaining experience in the conditions, which are likely to be hot and humid, but not unbearably so.

The NHPSC is a large multi-sports complex featuring training areas for almost every Olympic and other major sport that Græntfjall competes in. The stadium has now met its full planned capacity of 50,000 and is up to full international standards, though corporate hospitality remains limited in availability. The NHPSC is based in Græntfjaller Multinesia, the largest constituent island of the Græntfjaller South Indies. Where these lie is somewhat confusing as those consulting the Rushmori regional map will find no reference to them: they certainly exist though and lie in tropical oceans far to the south east/west/up/down/strange/charm/other of the Græntfjaller mainland.

The Græntfjaller South Indies were the only major colonial possession of the Queendom captured during the Age of Piracy. During the 20th century, Græntfjall fell under communist rule and the islands were granted independence, an unfortunate oversight which was quickly corrected in the immediate post-communist era, welcoming the islanders back under the benevolent and wise rule of the mainland, which has brought them many modern amenities such as industrial strip-mining of the landscape, while employment opportunities abound in the sweatshops of the Export Processing Zones that, free from international labor regulations, are veritable hives of industry churning out produce for the Græntfjaller and international markets nearly round-the-clock! Many natural beauty spots have been preserved, however, most of them now playing home to luxury vacation resorts, private residences, and golf courses.

There is a naval base, multiple air strips, and a full marine battalion, on the islands, and a heavily military presence is noticeable. There are some restricted areas where photography is not permitted and some areas of the islands are completely off-limits. Have no fear, though, security is assured, and terrorist groups such as the savage “Multinesian Human Rights Council” and “Indigenous People’s Clean Water Defence Fund” are being firmly policed to prevent any rogue action such as passing on documentation of the pollution of their tribal homelands.

Cabo Azure runs on diesel. It’s a net importer of fuel, and maintaining access to that fuel to keep its energy grid running is a major reason for its robust fleets of merchant ships and Coast Guard cutters. One of the few programs that has been held over from the days of the Gang of Seven is the maintenance of a strategic reserve of oil to keep the country running in the event of a blockade, but much of Azurean foreign policy is still dedicated to keeping trade lines open so that diesel can continue to flow into Azurean ports.

Ironically this reliance on an incredibly brittle energy supply arguably has some ecological benefits; because so much of the fuel that is imported is needed for the energy grid, the amount that is available to consumers to run automobiles and boats is strictly limited. The Vopara Lampo and Calania C3+, two plug-in hybrids from prominent Anaian manufacturers, leapfrog one another for the title of best-selling vehicle in Cabo Azure, and dealer lots are empty soon after a new shipment arrives.

As a result of the fuel shortage, even the most rural islands in Cabo Azure have fairly robust public transit. Rubio’s Bicicletas, which started as a single kiosk on the island of Canarinho offering daily and hourly bicycle rentals mostly to Quebecois military personnel stationed on the island, has expanded to nearly all of the outlying Azurean islands, including one-way rentals between islands. Bicycle taxis are common in Sao Simone, where they easily navigate the maze of narrow, one-way streets.

One exception to the fossil-fuel dependence is the second-largest island in Cabo Azure, Dulce Muerte, which takes its name from the smell of burning bagasse, a byproduct of sugarcane production which powers not only the sugarcane plants, but much of the island as well, especially the barges that transport processed sugar to market. What power in Dulce Muerte is not provided by bagasse comes from hydroelectric plants spread across the island. This energy independence makes Dulce Muerte a strong political player in Cabo Azure and a crucial part of the national defense strategy; rumor has it that the Azurean military has secret plans to fight a guerilla conflict from Lagostim, the island’s capital, in the event they are invaded.

The Azurean approach to renewable energy is one of relentless practicality. Offshore wind power has been proposed as an alternative to diesel, but the unpredictable weather and notoriously rough seas around the island make it a less palatable option, as well as the need to keep the navigable lanes open. Solar has made headway in some places, especially in more rural parts of the outlying islands, but the expense of ordering parts from overseas keeps it out of reach for most Azureans, and limited horizontal space on most of the islands limits the technology’s usefulness. Perhaps the most promising application is on the island of Sao Vicente, where a request for proposals has recently gone out for a project near the stone quarry in the village of Ponta Flaca. The project would be a combination break wall and tidal power generator that would power most of the island as well as make the coastline near Ponta Flaca navigable for larger ships.

Poafmersian fans are crazy about football, and their loud cheers ring about in the stadiums they visit. They are very willing to disturb the peace in the area to celebrate their win after matches, so matches are best held in the afternoon or early evenings. You can spot Poafmers booking large meeting rooms in hotels, going to bars in groups. Apart from that, they do pick up after themselves, and prevent causing much trouble apart from celebrating. Home Stadium
For the entire duration of the qualifiers, Poafmersia will be playing their home games at the Libira National Stadium. To accommodate a rising interest in football, there was a slight layout change and stand refurbishment being done prior to the qualifiers, and as such, the stadium capacity has been increased to 70 thousand seated pax. The stadium is located in Fiskadaha City, capital of Poafmersia. To travel to the city, direct flights are provided from many major capital cities around the world. Within Poafmersia, however, public transport, such as trains and buses, are the preferred mode of transport, and there are rail lines available between Fiskadaha and many major cities in the country.

Like diesel fuel or pop culture, most consumer goods in Cabo Azure are imported from such a bewildering patchwork of places that one might think Azureans are being intentionally eclectic, or else shopping from some kind of multiversal thrift store. The reality is both more complex and more interesting; the sourcing of its consumer goods reflects eras in Azurean economic and foreign policy, as well as connection between core and outlying islands. The simplest way to explain these connections is through a series of anecdotes, each surrounding a particular consumer good.

Electricity came to Cabo Azure in stages, starting in the latter half of King Adolfo II’s reign, when the palace, university, and army barracks on Portelo were electrified after a century-plus of relying on gas tubes for light and heat. Huayramarcans tend to be very proud of their indigenous roots, the history and symbolisms behind their connection with Mother Earth, the heavens, Mountains, Coasts, etc. Since its beginnings, the Huayramarcan Football Federation has tried to reflect, as most as possible, the Huayramarcan identity in the kits of the National Team, that’s why they decided to hire “eva sports”, a local kit maker whose sole mission is to provide with the best kits possible to the local teams, as the company only works in Huayramarca and for Huayramarcans.

eva is a brand that is reliant on alliances with different companies abroad to import technology for their uniforms, as they try to tailor them as light as possible for the players and any high-performance environment. The real stronghold of eva is the level of customisation that they can offer to their clients, one that rivals pretty much with any company from abroad, as they have a variety of patterns that resembles from old religious folk beliefs to natural characteristics of the zone of a particular team, with some great works that they have produced and they will continue to produce for Huayramarca. Literally the word “ilha” in Azurean means “island”, and refers to the dozens of islands, inhabited and otherwise, that comprise the Azure Islands and the state of Cabo Azure. Idiomatically it means something in between “village” and “wheelhouse” and refers to the people and institutions with whom a person engages on a regular basis. In smaller islands, one’s “ilha” might refer to the literal landmass upon which one lives, while in the cities one’s “ilha” is better understood as the close friends and family upon whom one can rely for support.

“Ilhas” are not inherent and are not delineated by blood or any other source. It is a fluid, ever-changing construct, subject to change on a dime according to individual whim. Parents warn their children not to talk to people not of their “ilha”, while introducing a potential romantic partner to one’s “ilha” is a step in the direction of marriage. Two people who have grown apart may say they were once in each other’s “ilha”, but no more. One can expect to have one’s loyalty tested periodically by the members of one’s “ilha”, for example, by requesting small favors like a ride to the airport or sharing small secrets.

Being part of an ilha is more than a social obligation; it has consequences in the financial and legal realms as well. Some Azurean banks, most prominently Banco Hidalgo, offer “ilha financing”, a sort of mutual fund against which members can borrow for major expenses. The emigrant might sent remittances home, but is more likely to return for holiday with a suitcase full of consumer goods, while the trade worker might offer an apprenticeship to a son or daughter of a member of his or her ilha.

Azureans overseas, even those generations removed from the islands, rely heavily on their ilhas to survive, and ilha networks have been observed in Carathyr, Hattmark, Jolbonopolis, and other cities abroad with large Azurean populations. In some places, these networks become more akin to organized crime than to the ilhas seen on Cabo Azure.

It is, certainly, curious that during a tournament like the Confederations Cup, the draw of the Group Stage of the 95th World Cup Qualifier has been released; as there’s sometimes a time lapse from tournaments and announcements like this to chill off, but the World Cup Committee had different plans in their minds, as the path for this cycle has been accelerated.

Why would someone bring this to question? Well, the fact that Huayramarca will face Cabo Azure tomorrow for the Semifinals of the Confederations Cup is a big thing for both nations, but there’s an unexpected spicy ingredient into the recipe of this match that has offered emotions before… Huayramarca has been paired in the Group 7 of the World Cup Qualifiers, deemed by many as the Group of Death of this cycle, and casually the Condors have been paired with guess who? YES! Cabo Azure will be in the same WCQ Group.

The announcement came the night before the match, in a surprising fashion that has added spice for it on both sides. In the Huayramarcan side? The appeal for Bryan Tello, the legendary striker that has completely outshone rivals with his strength, physicality and football IQ, as he doesn’t forgive rivals when it comes to his deadly finish; something he demonstrated back in that World Cup 93 Round of 16 where Huayramarca had to turn back after a 0-2, 2-4 and 4-5 to force the penalties and win it, that was one of the brightest displays we have seen from Bryan Tello.

During that night, Bryan Tello was able to score a single goal, but it was the one who made it 2-2 when Huayramarca was playing in a quite horrible shape, then he decided to carry the team on his shoulders by dragging marks, acting like a pivot, and motivating the players to score and never give up, which they did. Tello usually is a lone person, one who dives into books of philosophy and life, but he decided to go full stoic that day by improving the morale of his teammates and destroying the Azurean morale.

During an interview in the press conference tonight, Tello said “I do remember that match as if it was yesterday. You might look at how shy I am sometimes, because I grew up in an environment that I didn’t like, where people felt defeated prior starting a match… But those circumstances made me learn that I can be a leader and turn things in my favour, our favour, by motivating them and marking a difference. That’s what I did back then, I motivated my teammates, I tried to be an example by playing for the nation and by the nation, as we wanted to give our best. The circumstances weren’t the easiest, but I was able to use what I learned in those pitches with friends back then, to never give up, to give my best and enable others to do so.”

When asked about the coincidence of playing Cabo Azure in the Qualifiers, Tello just said “Meh… That’s a mere happening… It could have been them or another team. What it will never change, for sure, is our commitment to deliver the best score possible for the nation, no matter the team, we will try to do our best.” Despite Tello tried to downplay the happening, the matches seem to have potential for a lot of goals and trouble for both defences, as that 5-5 score showed in the Round of 16. Aginsogno was recalled about that and he said “As I’ll always say, the best defence is the attacking line. If we keep the rival busy while chasing the ball, we will be comfortable in the defence side of things.” Then he added “Cabo Azure plays some great football and has great players, as I remember Pio Mendonça having quite a day against us. We have learned from those matches, so we will correct them, and check their current patterns to take care about them and prevent bad things to happen.”

Meanwhile, in the Azurean side of things, they have consideration of Bryan Tello and his role during that match, and for the well-known trajectory of the Huayramarcan forward, but they are also expectant for the match, which will be a thermometer for what will come next in the World Cup Qualifier. A great thermometer, as there’s prestige at stakes, with the possibility of being the first finalist of the Confederations Cup is there.

Meanwhile, we hope that the light of Bryan Tello might guide us to victory, as our legend continues to make his dreams come true, those dreams he had when he was a child helping his parents at Tulcán selling fruits and vegetables, the same one who progressed and has now a major in Philosophy, the very same who is now a legend of Huayramarcan football and a staple of his club in Valladares. Yes, the same one who as its 35 years continues to age like wine, trying to increase the number of goals he has scored with the National Team, which is quite a big number already (252 in 302 caps). Let’s go, Huayramarca!
