-60:00: Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the opening game of the 2023 Coupe du Monde, where hosts Ardesia will be taking on Tiwura!
-40:00: The hosts will rightly be looking for a convincing win today to get their home tournament underway with a bang, but many have criticised Ardesian manager Eugénio Ettore for an overreliance on young talent. Indeed, young star Teodósio Coelho will be making his international debut today at the age of only 18, and Ettore will hope Coelho and his team have the right mentality coming into this match.
-33:00: Tiwura could certainly cause an upset here if they can use their experience to their benefit, Ardesian captain Vasco will certainly be in his teammates' ears throughout the game.
-17:00: No unexpected changes from either team going into this game: Ardesia will line up in their attacking 4-2-3-1 formation with captain Vasco leading the line, while Tiwura will be looking to go defensive with a 5-2-3 formation.

FIRST HALF
1': Vasco knocks the ball to Mata in midfield, and the stadium erupts! Welcome to the 2023 Coupe du Monde!
3': Ardesia are looking to attack early with their superior midfield numbers. Salgado and Coelho are enjoying lots of freedom on the left-hand side.
6': Mata plays a nice ball through to Furfaro on the right, who beats Dambe down the line and puts a good ball in.... ~~GOOOOAAAAALLLLL! Vasco opens the scoring for Ardesia in the sixth minute with a great header!~~ The captain bolts over to the Ardesian fans in the corner!
7': VAR have brought play back for an offside in the buildup. Referee Bunzo waves away the goal, and it's back all square here.
13': Tiwura have been given a lifeline by VAR, but it doesn't seem like Ardesia are letting it phase them: they are hungry for more. Tiwura certainly on the back foot here, something is going badly wrong with their tactics.
17': Tiwura have been soaking up the pressure well, though, credit to their defense. The experience from Gemade at the back is showing in their resilience.
22': A chance for Tiwura here! Ardesia were caught too far forward and now they're tracking back on the counter! A good pass from Ogunjobi through to Kwali, he's 1-on-1.....!

45+4': Pinho is struggling to adjust to the pace of the game, especially with how frequently the Ardesian attack was progressing down the left hand flank. Their momentum is slowing as the first half comes to a close.
45+7': Bunzo blows for half-time, but there seems to be an altercation in the centre circle, Salgado and Câmara are surrounding Richards for his tackle on Coelho. Ogunjobi crashes in defending his teammate before Vasco escorts the Ardesian players away. The referee shows Salgado, Câmara and Ogunjobi yellow cards.

SECOND HALF
45': We are back underway at the Estádio dos Santos!
51': Tiwura looking a lot better in this half, the manager seems to have had a positive impact in the dressing room.
58': A slow start to this half though, as the ball has been held up in a gritty midfield battle so far.
60': A quick counter-attack for Tiwura though, as Richards plays a lovely cross-field ball to Emokpae on the left, who cuts inside past Câmara and tries to curl a shot into the far corner...!
61': Emokpae hits the post! The ball rolls out for a goal kick, but that's sure to scare Ardesia who were beginning to get a little comfortable in their lead.
64': A substition for Ardesia as a fatigued Vasco is off for Aleixo Ferreira.

68': Ferreira is involved immediately in some nice attacking buildup for Ardesia, it seems he has slipped between the defensive and midfield lines to facilitate the wingers. He plays a nice ball through to Furfaro on the left, who zips a low ball into the box... and Pinho is there! The substitute taps it home to double the hosts' lead! 2-0 Ardesia!
70': A dagger for Tiwura as they were just starting to hit their stride. Just goes to show that great teams can always produce quality when it matters most.
71': The Tiwuran manager is looking to get at least something from this game as he makes some attack-minded substitutions.

82': Some nice play here from Tiwura, Ogunjobi knocks it sideways to Odemwingie, Emokpae and Ganiyu are overlapping nicely on the outside! But what a disappointment as he tries to take on the shot from way too far out. The ball flies into the stands as jeers from Ardesian fans coat the pitch.
84': Ardesia get it back up the pitch, and Saraiva wins a free kick in a threatening position.

85': It's Assimio Mata over the free kick. Ferreira is calling for it after making a nice run into the box, but it's ignored... and that is simply incredible from Assimio Mata! A thumping shot rips into the back of the net as Chidike stands rooted on the spot! Ardesia grab their third and Mata his second! 3-0!
89': Heads are hanging amongst the Tiwuran players. What was probably a respectable 1-0 has been turned into an embarrassment thanks to some sheer brilliance by Assimio Mata.
90': The Senrian referee announces that there will be four minutes of added time to conclude this match.
90+2': Tiwura look to go forward, Darrington's fresh legs carry him past the fatigured Câmara, he meets de Sá in the box, and goes down...!
90+3': The referee is unconvinced, he ushers for Darrington to get up and eventually shows him a yellow card for simulation.
90+4': Cardoso takes the goal kick, and the referee blows the final whistle! Ardesia would have been dreaming of a performance like this the night before, and the fans are ecstatic to see their team get off to a start like this in their home tournament! In São Agostinho it ends, Ardesia 3, Tiwura 0.

Expectations are high since manager Valentin Bähr said he’d do “whatever it takes” for Werania to win the cup this year. Will they be dissatisfaction?

Porto Sotiri, Ardesia - As the Weranian team prepare to face off Chistovodia in their first match of this years Coupe du monde the stakes couldn’t be higher for new manager Valentin Bähr as his tough new management style is put to the test in the aftermath of Weranias humiliation in 2019.

Four years ago Werania failed to advance beyond the group stage, a bitter loss that haunts the Hammers still. Bähr, a former manager for Westbrücken-Hofschat was brought in to bring order to a team that was widely seen as disorganised and disunited. Bähr has a reputation as a tough disciplinarian with an eye for detail and demanding compliance from his players. Since coming into the role he has promoted more young talent as old stars like Karl Iyambo retired combing through to sign on fresh faces.

The results have been a team more disciplined, more focused and more offensive minded than in the past with Bährs military esque mindset prioritising an aggressive approach. But can such an approach avoid humiliation?

Chistovodia is a strong team and expectations are high that the Weranian side can beat them. Captain Rainier Ambambi has said before the match that “We are not expecting an easy match, Chistovodia have a lot of skill and we’ll need focus and grit to prevail”. Bähr hasn’t commented other than to say that he expects Werania to play with determination.

“We’re in it to win in 2023, whatever it takes” Bähr said last year. Fans are holding him up to that commitment and will be watching the Weranian team closet. A loss against Chistovodia would bode ill for Weranian fortunes.

-25:00: The weather has been reported to be bright and sunny, with a cool summer breeze in this eastern Ardesian city. Porto Sotiri is truly a historical city. Having once served as a capital for Ardesia. The city is now a beautiful sight for tourists alike, who concentrate on its colonial style beach district, featuring numerous restaurants.
-15:00: The Estádio do Anel de Prata, is one of the new stadiums constructed by Ardesia for this tournament, being constructed in the downtown district of the city, featuring a beautiful lake side view of the new Anel de Prata park recently opened. The other stadium Estádio Missionário, serving in the 2nd set of stadiums and hosting the Etruria VS Aucuria match of tomorrow, is located in the suburbs of Ardesia's 3rd largest city. Missionário has also been constructed for this tournament, although it is smaller than do Anel de Prata.
-10:00: The fans have begun to make their presence shown, as a sold out crowd is present for this historic match. These two teams have never met in the Coupe du Monde, but have played 7 friendly matches, with two victories apiece, and 3 draws. Their most recent game in 2016 ended in a 2-0 Chistovodian victory in Varna Arena, in the southern Chistovodian city of Varna.

1': Holovko moves the ball to Sheremet, and the stadium erupts! Welcome to the 2023 Coupe du Monde to the Chistovodians and the Weranian teams!
2': Sheremet has been fouled by Ehrenberg, and a free kick has been awarded to the Chistovodians. Free Kick Top Dog
3': The Chistovodians are using the free kick well, but they're offside, by a leg.
6': The Weranians are moving the ball well, they have prepared themselves extensively for this tournament. With Neumann stating that there exists a new culture of professionalism, and style of play in the Hammers.
8': The VAR was essential yesterday as it slowed down the Ardesians in the first couple of minutes, by denying them a goal. But it made little impact as the Ardesians routed the Tiwurans 3-0.
10': The ball is intercepted by Banciu, and the Chistovodians are quick for the attack. Pass towards Barboza, Karapetrov, and foul on Karapetrov. Gill has arrived to calm the players down. And the Chistovodians have received a free kick. Free Kick Top Dog
11': The free kick by Sheremet is too wide. Won't cause a sweat for the Weranians. Beukemann to clear the ball.
15': Kleppinger is fouled near midfield by Taranenko, and Taranenko goes to discuss his case with Gill. Who instructs Kleppinger to stand up. Oh Oh Give him some Vitaflenayko
17': Shaanika intercepts a Chistovodian pass and erupts into a run, he passes it to Akbarian, but he holds the ball too long. Akbarian should have passed that ball, but he held it like it was his son. Chistovodian ball.
21': Bohšsa is moving the ball well, passing it to Novikov. Did you know that Ihor Novikov shares a name with the Vinalian Novikov Cup? I did, Novikov like the trophy he shares a namesake with, is inmovable in that part of the field, holding the ball hostage. Heres Marcinkievič to see if he can rescue the ball from Novikov's hold.
23': Sheremet has some good footwork, but the Weranians are nailed to the pitch, the Chistovodians are having a hard time getting a good shot on the Weranian goal. Better ball movement by the Chistovodians, Viktor Denysyuk appeared to be dying on the sidelines in any attempt to get more movement in that ball.
28': The Chistovodians have been more aggressive in the past few minutes, but the Weranians are well placed. Marcinkievič makes a pass to Sheremet, this one brews danger Sheremet passes to Holovko. He shoots. And Beukemann barely swats that away. Subarasi corner kick for the Chistovodians, incredible shot by Holovko.
29': Barboza prepares the kick, straight into the box. Holovko heads that but its too far wide. Beukemann to clear it.
32': Ehrenberg is moving the ball well, but he is fouled by Barboza. Barboza is pleading with the official, but Gill is unmoved, free kick to the Weranians. Free Kick Top Dog Too far away to be any danger, Ehrenberg passes the ball to Akbarian, who passes it to Kleppinger. Kleppinger with good footwork, but the ball is cleared by Simeonescu.
36': The Chistovodians are again on the attack moving the ball well. Holovko makes a good pass to Barboza, who passes it to Marcinkievič, who passes it to Sheremet, then back to Barboza. Barboza passes it to Holovko. Holovko with great footwork gets past the defenders, and takes a shot. Beukemann swathes that away. The man is screaming at his defensemen. Holovko with again the best chance so far in this game. Subarasi corner kick
37': Barboza again to prepare for the corner kick, theres plenty of shoving between both teams, and Gill is there to calm tensions then. Gill hammers a complaining Ehrenberg. Barboza prepares to put the ball into center. Too far wide by the midfielder, as Akbarian heads that one away.
42': The Weranians are mounting a good attack, with good footwork from their players. Akbarian moves the ball well, on the side of the net, and takes a shot. But that one is too wide. Onyshchuk to clear that one out.
43': Onyshchuk clears it to Sheremet who attempts to break through the Weranian defenders who are not well positioned. Sheremet breaks through pushing the ball forward, the Weranians are badly placed. Beukemann comes out to stop Sheremet, he takes a shot. The ball got swathe yet again by Beukemann. The man is livid with his defenders. Beukemann so far the only reason the Weranians are still tied in this one. What a splendid play by Beukemann the man is a top tier goalie, and he's showing it.Subarasi corner kick
44': Taranenko is selected to do the free kick, but theres again shoveling and moving in the Weranian goal. Gill is there again to calm tensions down.
45': Taranenko takes a well placed shot into the box, and GOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL! Holovko heads it into the goal past Beukemann, what a good shot by the Chistovodian player, and this game is no longer tied
45+1': three minutes request the officials, as the Weranians play defensively. Terrible half for the Weranians, they started strong but Chistovodia definitely owning this first half, they'd need a good second half against the Chistovodians.
45+3': Sheremet intercepts a pass from Kleppinger, and attempts to pass it to Holovko, but the ball is too wide. Beukemann to clear the ball. Beukemann clears the ball, and Gill says that we have time for no more. The first half is concluded.

HALF-TIME
-The man of the hour, Albert Beukemann. Beukemann has been perfect this half, so far the best goalie we've seen this tournament so far, incredible skill.

-Beukemann ought to be awarded something, for keeping the Weranian team in the game. If Beukemann wasn't there, we'd be talking a 4-0 rather than a 1-0. Beukemann has definitely been the wall that this team needs. Now let us hope that it is a case of it being the first half, because if the Weranians intend on playing like that for the rest of the game, and forbid the tournament. They won't be going anywhere.

-Agreed, the Weranians will need to reform themselves and attempt a new game, because its clear they lost the last one. Start over, start fresh.

-In other news, the Garamburans put a strong performance against Montecara, with that game ending 3-1 in favor of the Garamburans. Nainan and Caldia delivered us a 0-0 draw, which certainly won't help either team in Group A, and in the final rankings to enter the top 32.

SECOND HALF
45': And with a pass from Neumann to Shaanika, the half gets underway.
47': The Weranians seem more confident in their play, moving the ball with greater speed, and skill. Good footwork from the Hammers.
49': The Hammers are making a convincing game so far, keeping the ball in the Chistovodian half, challenging them for space and opportunities. Ehrenberg moves the ball, and passes it to Müller, but Barboza fouls the midfielder. Gill arrives, and despite protest, gives the foul to Werania. Dangerous free-kick opportunity here. Free Kick Top Dog. Neumann to take the shot. He prepares, and splendid shot hitting the crossbar in the Chistovodian goal. You can see Onyshchuk running to hug the goal post.
54': The Weranian fans are loud in their chants, as the Chistovodian attempt to advance through the Weranian defenders, but they're well placed. Beukemann must of have threatened them, for they are not wavering. Pass from Barboza to Sheremet, but cleared by Berthold. Ehrenberg puts on speed and passes it to
58': Müller moves the ball past midfield to Kleppinger, Kleppinger moves it good past Sheremet and passes it to Müller. Barboza arrives hard, and foul. Müller is holding to his foot, as both teams converge on the player. Oh Oh Give him some Vitaflenayko. Kleppinger demands a yellow from Gill, and he will get it. Barboza is shown a Oh oh you have gotten a yellow card. Well deserved in my opinion. Having seen enough, the Chistovodians make a couple changes, repositioning their team.

59': Müller stands up and walks outside of the pitch, the Weranians are waiting, before making any changes.
61': Müller returns to the pitch, as the Top Dog Free Kick, gets underway. Ehrenberg makes an innocent pass down the side to Kleppinger, Kleppinger moves the ball well down the left side of the pitch, centers it. Good header from Akbarian but its just wide. Onyshchuk to clear it.
65': Sheremet is moving the ball well, but it goes just too far for him, Beukemann to clear it. Both teams signal for substitions. Beukemann to keep the ball on his side.

Muszyński moving the ball well to Kleppinger, who still holds impressive footwork and speed, rushing down the left side of the pitch. This is a serious attack, the Chistovodian defenders are not well positioned, Kleppinger Kleppinger Kleppinger! He centers it. Shikalepo kicks it saved by Onyshchuk, rebound loose in the box. Neumann kicks it. GOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL! Neumann good kick on the rebound, and we are tied 1-1
75': The Weranians are on the attack again, Kleppinger moving it from the left side, oh its dangerous again. Kleppinger keeps moving it, centers it, Neumann looking for his second heads up and over the crossbar. He was practically by himself. He wants that one back for sure. Viktor Denysyuk is furious, and orders a final substition, the Chistovodians need to wrestle control of the game again, for the Weranians are well placed.

78': The Chistovodians are making credible advance with good footwork from Stachiewicz, but it is kicked to the side by Kleppinger. If the game stands as a draw, Garambura is strongly positioned in the group stage. A good pass from Yakovenko to Sheremet, Sheremet to Vilenkin who drives good down the right side. Vilenkin dribbles past Kieber, this one could be dangerous, Vilenkin Vilenkin Vilenkin! Takes a shot, deflected off Beukemann, and cleared by Ambambi. That one could had been dangerous.
82': The Weranians are having good footwork, and movement on the ball. They're being effective, and careful, looking for any opportunity. Kleppinger makes a good pass to Neumann who moves it strongly down the side. Good dribbling by the Weranians. But the ball is cleared by Bohšsa. Bohšsa being a wall now.
85': Good push by Kleppinger on the side, he's moving the ball well. Kleppinger has been effective all day, strong ball movement. He dribbles it past Stachiewicz, Kleppinger good pass to Shikalepo, Shikalepo dribbles it strongly he has an opening and takes the shot. 86': Shikalepo to take the corner, the Weranians and Chistovodians crowd the box. Good center by Shikalepo. Headed by Neumann, hits the leg of Bohšsa, rebound picked up by Muszyński, shot by Muszyński, saved by Onyshchuk, rebound is lose. Cleared by Simeonescu, to Kleppinger. Kleppinger moves it good and takes a shot. GOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL! Kleppinger takes a good shot, it skirts past the fingers of Onyshchuk, good goal by the Weranians, and we are 2-1.
87': Werania signals for substition. They're settling in for keeping the game as it is.
