Welcome to the 2023 Astyrian Formula One Championship! The best teams and most talented drivers throughout Astyria have come together to compete for the top prize in all of Astyrian motorsport. Come with us as we journey through 21 grands prix around the region, each of which bring about different tests of skill, cunning, and bravery for these racing gladiators. Which team and driver will emerge as champion at the end of the year? We can't wait to find out as we begin this new and exciting season!

First off, we welcome a new constructor to the AstyF1 grid in Camden Motorsport. Ever since they acquired the Sevir F1 team in the winter of last year, they enter the season looking to uphold their long and proud legacy in racing. While they have retained Matthew Martins to help them get through their first year as a works team, they have piqued some interest in the paddock with their new driver signing: Meline Agrakian of Lisander. She has become the third woman to compete in AstyF1 in the past three years, but many have questioned whether this rookie to the sport can go toe-to-toe with the best considering she isn't as young as her competitors. Can she prove that age is just a number?

Elsewhere on the grid, there has been lots of driver movement across teams. Maximilian Frentzen has left Breuer to drive for Sidus alongside 2022 Drivers' Champion Lauren Blake, while Athan Lille has been brought in to take his place. This in turn has created an opening at Angelbridge, which was filled by departing Sevir driver Phillip Rollins. It will be interesting to see how quickly these drivers can adjust to their new teams, especially as they will be at the forefront of helping them fight for places.

Meanwhile at the sharp end of the grid, Blake will be looking to defend her Drivers' Championship title this year, while Sidus has set its sights on taking back the Constructors' Championship. Raamaker is aiming to pick up where they left off and cement their return as a consistent title contender, while Bram Dichter is targeting his first championship. Phaeton will want to return to winning ways after a season that fell below expectations, with Gianpiero Santoro and Decius Whitewall feeling the pressure that comes with driving for Astyria's most successful constructor.

We seem to be in the makings of a proper duel between AstyF1's top teams. Will we see a championship fight for the ages this year or a clean sweep for the most dominant team? Will we even see one of the midfielders rise to the challenge and make a play for the front of the grid? We hope that you stick around because anything can happen in the top Astyrian racing series!

The Principality of Lisander, a sports loving, very highly developed nation in Astyria.
Disappointing people and missing deadlines since 2013.

It's a new year for Astyrian Formula One and the best drivers and teams are ready to race once more! Welcome to the 1st round of the 2023 AstyF1 championship, coming to you live from the Aswickan Grand Prix at the historic Sherbourne Circuit. A staple of grand prix racing since the 1950s, it was on this repurposed airfield where the first Astyrian Formula One race was held in 1960. Since then, it has evolved over the years from layout to layout, eventually arriving at the 5.89 km circuit we know and love today. Filled with lots of medium-to-high speed corners and wide straights, there is no shortage for on-track battles and overtaking opportunities.

Nearly every race here has spectacular moments and storylines that make it a blockbuster event. That's why so many fans from all around the world have come to see the action for themselves. Many of them have also come to cheer on the six Aswickan drivers on the grid, all of which carry the legacy of a proud nation of racers. With so many expectations put on their shoulders, these drivers are hoping to do well this weekend.

However, there lie some challenges ahead for the drivers at this grand prix. Sherbourne Circuit is notorious for its high rate of degradation, which punish drivers that chew through their tires in a race. The Aswickan weather can be a factor as well, drenching the circuit and making it incredibly difficult to stay on track. Which one of our 24 racers will rise above the conditions and emerge victorious? Let's find out!

Week 1: Qualifying
Image
Conditions: Dry
Lap Record: 00:01:27.097
Qualifying Type: Elimination
Nation: ASW
Circuit: Sherbourne Circuit

The first two sessions of qualifying handily belonged to Bram Dichter, who lost none of his raw pace over the winter despite losing the 2022 championship by a single point. He looked determined to start the season off strong and hopefully challenge for the title once again. However, not too far behind was Lauren Blake, the woman whom Dichter lost the championship to. However, it was Gianpiero Santoro that would take the honors of starting the Aswickan Grand Prix on pole position, with Dichter on the front row alongside him and Blake staring at his Phaeton's exhaust on Sunday.

In the mix at the front was Conway Prescott, who looked quick in his MacGregor, while Robert van Grol and Maximilian Frentzen were keeping in touch with the qualifying leaders as well. But it was the young Lisanderian Athan Lille who dragged his Breuer up to have the 4th fastest time, an incredible performance. Mitchell Townsend also impressed as well with a P9 position and Dominic Hudnall put his car in P12, showing the progress that Urbina made over the winter with their new chassis. With this encouraging turn of pace, they're expecting to get to the front of the midfield in the race.

Meanwhile, things weren't looking good for Decius Whitewall, who sadly had to bow out of qualifying in 20th due to a gearbox glitch. The two Angelbridges of Octavius Clearwater and Phillip Rollins lacked pace compared to the other cars and so will be occupying the last two slots on the grid. Sarah Musgrove once again underdelivered compared to her more experienced teammate, only managing a P15, while the rookie Meline Agrakian was only quick enough for P16.

Conditions: Dry

Circuit: Sherbourne Circuit
Event: Aswickan Grand Prix

Cars on Grid: 24

A new season dawned for Astyrian Formula One at Sherbourne, and it began in an immediate and dramatic fashion. Aleksander Valiny was squeezed into Nicolas von Siedel during the scramble and crashed, briefly sending the 2017 and 2018 champion into the air. Von Siedel was a passenger as his car skated into the gravel and crashed violently into the barriers, bringing out the red flag. The incident was caused due to Musgrove and Agrakian attempting to make their own passes from behind, but the stewards ruled it as a racing incident and handed no penalties, to the chagrin of the AMZ and Breuer pitwalls.

The race restarted according to the original starting order. Dichter had a better start than Santoro and went into the lead while Blake held her position against Lille. This time the drivers got away cleanly and began to settle into the rhythm of the race. On Lap 3, Blake attempted to make an overtake on Santoro in the final chicane, but Santoro forced her wide and clashed wheels with her on the exit, earning him a 5-second penalty from the stewards.

On Lap 6, Clearwater slowed into the pits and retired from the race due to an engine failure. Two laps later, Rollins suffered the same fate and parked his car in the runoff, bringing out the Virtual Safety Car. Angelbridge was going to go home empty-handed, being the only team to have no cars finish the grand prix.

The restart provided another opportunity for Blake to pass Santoro, which she did down the inside of Turn 6. Santoro tried to fight back in the old pit straight, but the speed advantage of the Sidus was too much for him. Meanwhile, Lille had picked up some floor damage after taking too much kerb in Turn 4, which handicapped his car's speed for the remainder of the race.

Devin Acker was the next to retire from the race, with a gearbox problem taking him out on the 25th lap. This time the full safety car was brought out, which Sidus and Raamaker quickly used to pit both of their cars. Blake relinquished the lead to Santoro, who chose to stay out, while Frentzen jumped both Raamakers in the stops and moved up to 3rd. The safety car came in on Lap 26 and the race restarted. Santoro defended for a few laps against the charging Blake, but he misjudged his braking point at the end of the Norris straight and locked up his tires, making himself vulnerable.

Predictably, Blake had gotten close enough to successfully overtake him down the Anderson Straight, while Frentzen followed suit a lap later. From then on, the two purple cars didn't look back and led the field all the way to the checkered flag. Blake and Frentzen took a dominant 1-2 finish for the Valkean constructor, with the former also taking the fastest lap. Henri Makitalö was awarded Driver of the Day for his spirited charge to 6th, while Townsend finished in P9 and gave Urbina some points. Sidus looked to have the fastest car this weekend and built an early lead, but with a long season ahead of them, can they hold on until the end? We'll see you at the next race!

Here we are for Round 2 of the 2023 Astyrian Formula One Championship! After a memorable season opener at Sherbourne Circuit, we go to Bakunin Circuit for the Mizia Grand Prix. One of the newer tracks to the calendar, it has consistently featured on the AstyF1 calendar since the 2014 season. It is a spectacular circuit with a monstrous pit grandstands, some long straights, tricky corners, and a host of elevation changes.

With the growing interest in racing throughout Mizialand, this circuit came at the perfect time. Every season at Bakunin seems to have a memorable moment, from Simo Rassinen's daring pass on the inside of Tertius DiParadisa in 2015 to Robert van Grol's charge to 2nd last year. And outside of AstyF1, it has been the venue of several domestic racing series. Time will tell whether a Mizia driver will make it to the grid in the future, but there is some optimism as more of their talents prove themselves in the lower classes.

Meanwhile at the sharp end of Astyrian motorsport, Sidus took first blood with a dominant 1-2 finish at the Aswickan Grand Prix, with Lauren Blake claiming a dominant victory. With such a strong opening to the season, do they have the momentum to keep it going into this weekend? Or will another team rise to the challenge? Let's go!

Things are looking positive for Raamaker as their package suited this circuit well. Bram Dichter was the fastest man on track in Q2 and Q3, taking pole postion ahead of his teammate Robert van Grol, giving the team their first front-row lockout of the season. Gianpiero Santoro was looking quick too, setting the 3rd fastest time ahead of Blake. Conway Prescott pushed the limits of his MacGregor and took 5th ahead of Stefan Lakowski.

Mitchell Townsend once again delivered an incredible equalifying performance with a P7, with his teammate Dominic Hudnall taking P8. It seems that the performance gains made by Urbina weren't a fluke, which could potentially make them the team to watch in the midfield. Athan Lille placed himself in the Top 12, marking his 2nd consecutive Q3 appearance.

Decius Whitewall once again struggled to find pace and could only muster enough for a Top 10 place. Maximilian Frentzen wasn't doing much better in P11 as he struggled to find his optimal car setup throughout the weekend. And finally, Sarah Musgrove was off the pace from her teammate Prescott, despite being lucky enough to just make it into Q2.

Week 2: Race
Image
Conditions: Dry
Laps: 60

Circuit: Bakunin Circuit
Event: Mizia Grand Prix
Safety Car Deployed on Laps: 46
Cars on Grid: 24

Bakunin Circuit rumbled once again to the sound of 24 AstyF1 cars going racing. Both Raamakers got off the line well but it was Van Grol who looked like he had the better start over his teammate. Dichter quickly tried to cover him off by squeezing him towards the wall, but Van Grol was able to get past into the lead. It wasn't over just yet, as Dichter kept close behind as they went up the hill at Turn 3 and down the long back straight. There the young Noordenstaater powered past his more experienced compatriot. Meanwhile, Santoro showed great awareness in the opening lap, making sure Blake didn't have an opportunity to get past.

Van Grol kept up with Dichter in the early stages and steadily built a gap between himself and Santoro. However, he made a rare mistake at Turn 10 and spun into the gravel. The 2016 Drivers' Champion was able to get back on the circuit but he had to pit for a new front wing. Having rejoined in a dismal 19th place, Van Grol put his head down and began climbing back up the order, with the Raamaker pit wall adjusting his strategy and taking advantage of his competitors pitting. With this he was back up to 4th.

Meanwhile, Blake was brought into the pits on Lap 14 to get the undercut on Santoro. At first it looked like the Phaeton pit wall didn't respond to this and kept the Monsan out. But on Lap 19, Santoro came out with fresher tires and was hunting down Blake with every lap, shaving off fractions of a second. It looked like he would be able to pass her, but then something happened on Lap 46.

Maríón Álfheiður's retired from the race with a gearbox problem. As a result, the Safety Car was brought out while the marshals scrambled to retrieve the parked Kappaksturslid in Sector 3. Both Blake and Santoro pitted for new tires, ruining Phaeton's strategic advantage, while Dichter was told to stay out and maintain track position. It didn't take long before the race resumed, with Dichter retaining his lead and Blake reopening the gap on Santoro.

Mitchell Townsend was struggling with the car as his tires were degrading faster than expected. He was told to conserve his rubber and try to bring the car home, but in doing so he lost places to his rivals behind. In the end he finished the race in 11th and was denied a points position by the Delaney of Nick Hardy.

Bram Dichter crossed the line to take his first victory of the season, moving himself up to the runner-up spot in the Drivers' Standings behind Lauren Blake. Blake herself finished right behind him in the race in 2nd place, while Gianpiero Santoro took another podium. In the dying seconds of the final lap, Prescott was bearing down on Van Grol and overtook him across the line, securing P4. Decius Whitewall, who finished in P8, got an extra point for the fastest lap. In the Constructors' Standings, Raamaker's decent haul of points meant they closed the points gap down to 11 points behind Sidus, while Phaeton held on to 3rd place. Could we be in for another championship challenge this season? We'll see at the next race in Slovertia!

Welcome everyone! We're here for Round 3 of the 2023 Astyrian Formula One Championship, live from the heart of Kojbakvy for the biggest motorsports event in Slovertia! The Sloverti Grand Prix is one of the most popular events on the AstyF1 calendar, consistently drawing large crowds and placing on many drivers' favorite events to race in.

Kojbakvy has been the historical capital of Slovertia for several centuries and continues to be its most important center for arts, culture, and finance. The city is also home to the Sloverti automotive giant AMZ, who is currently in their 3rd year as an AstyF1 constructor. There is many a place for visitors to explore, such as their historic buildings, bustling shops, and picturesque parks - including the Západná záhrada, home to the Kojbakvy Circuit.

Created from public streets that encircle the Obrovská stopa lake, it is a quick and fast course that gives spectators a first-hand experience of the raw speeds of today's cars. However, its narrow track width and the lack of long straights and means that overtaking here is a challenge. The modifications made last year were made to address those issues and make the racing better, but time will tell whether that has worked. Nonetheless, the grand prix itself has produced some classic races in the past - will this year's race be another? Let's find out!

Tensions were high on Saturday as it seemed that no driver was safe from getting knocked out. Sarah Musgrove was let down by traffic as she came out of the pits in Q1, preventing her from setting a competitive time to get to the next stage. Meanwhile, a calculation error knocked Mitchell Townsend out as well. It wasn't much better for Dominic Hudnall, who had to abandon his flying lap due to a brief yellow flag, cementing his P18 start on Sunday.

The regulations continue to demonstrate their effectiveness, with the Top 6 qualifiers being within 1/10th of a second from pole time. Robert van Grol and Maximilian Frentzen set some quick laps, locking down the 2nd row of the grid with a gap of only 0.02 seconds. Athan Lille once again impressed by qualifying 5th position, ahead of Bram Dichter. All of these incredible laps were set in quick succession of each other, but the best was yet to come.

At the front, Lauren Blake looked strong throughout all three qualifying sessions, consistently putting down quick lap times from start to finish. She was only 0.005 seconds behind Ivan Jovanović in Q1, while she was top of the times in Q2. It looked like she was going to get pole position, but Decius Whitewall was showing good pace in the dying seconds of Q3, with purple sectors in S1 and S2. Amazingly, he set the exact same time as Blake, shocking the fans and the paddock. Because Blake had set the time first, she was to be on pole, with Whitewall starting on the front row beside her.

The race began with Blake muscling her way around Turn 1, compromising Whitewall's line and causing him to fall prey to Van Grol and Frentzen. He was not thrilled by this, having voiced his frustrations on the radio, but the race stewards saw no issue with the Aquitaynian's aggressive defense. Further back, Lille was jumped by Dichter off the line, yet he was able to stop Gianpiero Santoro from taking advantage into Turn 3.

On Lap 25, Matthew Martins developed an engine problem and came to a stop in the middle of the start-finish straight, bringing out the Safety Car. Many drivers including Blake, Van Grol, and Dichter made their stops. However, Santoro and Whitewall switched places as they were coming in for a double-stack, as the Monsan was able to arrive at the pits before his teammate. This was because Santoro had started the race on hard tires and was able to have one less stop.

This wasn't the end of Whitewall's problems, as Dichter began to close in on him in the second half of the race. Battle ensued, with the Noordenstaater trying everything he can to get past. He nearly made the overtake into Turn 11, but he outbraked himself and went off into the gravel, conceding to Whitewall. Dichter rejoined the track without taking any damage and tried to resume his pursuit of Whitewall.

Meanwhile, Conway Prescott was coming after the AMZ duo of Henri Makitalö and Aleksander Valiny. Makitalö helped Valiny with his tow, putting him out of the reach of the Aswickan for several laps. But it was not enough to prevent Prescott from passing Valiny on Lap 46, stealing the Sloverti's chance at scoring points at his home grand prix. Makitalö would also get overtaken on Lap 55.

By Lap 49, Dichter was right behind the rear wing of the Phaeton and again applied some pressure. However, he soon faced a new challenger in the form of Athan Lille. Soon Whitewall, Dichter, and Lille were embroiled in a three-way duel for 5th place. Dichter had to balance between making an attack on Whitewall and covering himself from Lille's own attacks. Despite the order remaining the same at the end of the race, fans have praised it for being an exciting battle.

Perhaps one race that was a lot less exciting was Lauren Blake's - who led from start to finish, took the victory, and set the fastest lap to take another dominant Grand Slam. Van Grol went across the line 8 seconds behind her, followed by Frentzen another 10 seconds later. With this win, Blake cemented herself as the clear favorite for the Drivers' Championship, with a 25-point gap between herself and Dichter. Will she keep that momentum going into the next round? Join us next time at the Monsa Grand Prix!

Welcome to the sunlit shores of the Bay of Monsa for the Monsa Grand Prix, the most prestigious race of the 2023 Astyrian Formula One Championship! We once again come to see some racing action take place at the Circuito Urbano de Monsa, with the drivers mustering all their skills, experience, and bravery to conquer these tight and winding streets.

Held in the Conquistadores district of the City of Monsa, the Monsa Grand Prix holds the distinction of being the oldest continuous race on the AstyF1 calendar, appearing in every season since 1960. With its iconic backdrop of luxury highrises and million-dollar yachts in the harbor, this grand prix has a certain atmosphere that no other race can match. The streets echo the tune of 1000 hp racecars whizzing through the city by day, while the yachts light up with lavish parties at night. Some of the wealthiest and most famous personalities in Astyria appear here almost every year.

Besides the parties and the fat cats, the track itself is arguably the most daunting in all of AstyF1. Its narrow streets and unforgiving walls mean that cars will find it near-impossible to overtake. The circuit presents a unique challenge for drivers - one where outright speed matters a lot less compared to talent and courage. It has been on every driver's bucket list to win this race, for each of them knows that winning at Monsa will cement them as a racing legend. Which one of them will spray the winner's champagne this year? Let's begin!

Week 4: Qualifying

Conditions: Dry
Lap Record: 00:01:12.909
Qualifying Type: Elimination
Nation: MON
Circuit: Circuito Urbano de Monsa

Here we are again for the most anticipated qualifying session on the entire calendar. With Sunday's race expected to be a largely processional affair, qualifying was the best time to see what the limits of these cars and drivers were on this fabulous circuit. Many were expecting the usual favorites like Lauren Blake, Gianpiero Santoro, and Bram Dichter to be the quickest, but it turned out to be none of them. Henri Makitalö was the fastest driver on the track for Q1 and Q2, showing some incredible pace throughout the Monsa streets in his AMZ.

Yet as the track continued to evolve throughout the rest of the afternoon, the other drivers began to catch up. The final seconds of Q3 saw some of the most exhilarating flying laps of the day, with provisional pole seemingly shifting from one driver to the next. First it was Nicolas von Siedel in his Breuer to top the lap times, followed by Makitalö. Then Dichter snatched that away with Van Grol finishing just behind him. Frentzen was the next to take pole, setting all three purple sectors, and it looked like he was going to keep it as his teammate had a messy lap.

However, in what can be described as nothing short of miraculous, Blake managed to make up the time she lost in the previous two sectors and took pole position by 0.089 seconds. The crowd were beside themselves as they were baffled by how she did it. With this incredible drive, Sidus have locked out the front row, with both Raamakers behind them in the second row.

It was time for the great race to begin! The drivers had a clean getaway, with Blake retaining the lead into Turn 1 followed by Frentzen, Dichter, and Van Grol. From then on it was a race of pace management as the cars settled into a rhythm. Blake controlled the pace superbly at the front of the pack, only pushing when she needed to and minimizing risks. While this style of racing didn't sit well with fans who wanted to see racing action, it is nonetheless a brilliant demonstration of the reigning champion's skills behind the wheel.

Because both Phaetons started down in 8th and 9th, their pit wall decided to start their cars on the hard tires, hoping that Santoro and Whitewall would extend their stints to make the overcut on Prescott and Von Siedel. And it worked, with Von Siedel suffering a slow pit stop and Prescott getting impeded by backmarker traffic. The two red cars then went on to hold position all the way to the checkered flag, scoring a good haul of points for the team.

Meanwhile, Prescott immediately got into a duel with Aleksander Valiny as he came out the pits. The Sloverti proved to be a formidable obstacle, holding the Aswickan up for two laps. But Prescott was able to get through with a daring overtake into the Harbour Chicane. Sarah Musgrove also had a good race, taking the fastest lap and getting MacGregor an extra point.

The Raamakers swapped positions in the middle of the race due to a slight delay in Dichter's one and only pit stop. While the tire change to hards went without a hitch, he was not cleared to rejoin the pit lane until Nick Hardy's Delaney had safely passed through. While it seemed like a trivial setback for the Noordenstaater, it was enough for his teammate to overtake him and move up to the podium places. Dichter wanted to get back in front of Van Grol as quickly as possible, but the distance between the two was too great.

Lauren Blake crossed the line to take her very first victory at the Monsa Grand Prix, while Frentzen secured Sidus' second 1-2 finish and moved up to 2nd in the Drivers' Championship to tie with Dichter. Van Grol was next across the line in 3rd, with Dichter behind him in 4th. Henri Makitalö once again shone through at the top of the midfield with his P5 finish. It seems that the momentum is with Blake going into the next race in Nikolia - will she continue to dominate at the front or will another driver taste victory? We'll see you next time!
